I ran an Antutu benchmark and was surprised to find that I scored only 15078! That's like half what it should be, right?
Only questionable app running is themer. Any other ideas what could be causing such a low benchmark? Phone is not particularly laggy. Maybe when hanging up calls sometimes, I end up hitting the wrong button because it lags after hangup.
Update: uninstalled themer and that got it up to 20,000 but still rather low...

Out of curiosity, did you update the LG home to the G3 home? When I updated mine, my phone ran noticeably slower. Uninstalled and phone is back to where it was before the update. Just a thought...

Nah, everything is 100% stock, aside from Verizon kitkat update.

It's because much like the newer Samsung phones, your becnhmark results were boosted. Part of the KK update blocks boosted benchamark scores. This is also why results are so different between stock and source builds. What you're getting now, and what you would get on source based builds are your more accurate benchmarks.
Besides, benchmarks don't matter 1 bit. They in no way reflect real world use.

Hi everyone. I have never rooted my Bionic, but have always been disappointed in my performance. I bought it on launch day and just stuck with it, and it has been a huge disappointment ever since.
Well, I think I may have come across a reason for the disappointment. I ran the benchmark test Quadrant.
My first run? 1700.
My second? 1200.
I said, whoa, hold on a minute, people were getting 2200-2500 on stock when the thing launched.
So I did a factory reset, and after the last three runs of Quadrant I'm getting about 1400.
Something is seriously wrong. I installed CPU spy and nothing seems too out of the ordinary. Yet these scores are worse than the Nexus S, and that's just crazy. I know the Bionic is a better phone than that.
Is there a hardware problem with my phone causing these low scores? What do you think I could do to fix this?
Which version are you on?

5.9.905, which is the latest OTA firmware.
I just ran it and got 1465, and I've noticed that my Bionic has gone to hell lately. Poor battery life and overall poor performance. I would love help with this!
Edit: Using CPU Spy I found that when my phone isn't in deep sleep, it spends the large majority of its time at 300mhz, almost no time at 600 or 800mhz, and a small amount of the at 1000mhz that is significantly less than the time at 300mhz. Is the problem that my Bionic for some reason is getting stuck at a lower speed?

Well there are 3 things that could be contributing to this; your microSD, your choice of apps, and/or not using your built-in task manager to stop apps that are wasting memory.
But it's worth noting that Quadrant Standard won't show you the individual scores, so it is a poor tool for diagnosing problems. I suggest that you also not go by other peoples scores. They may be using mods that you aren't.

As I said in my post, I did a factory reset. Everything was wiped off the internal storage. No rogue apps. The only thing installed was the benchmark itself. I also tried the benchmark without the microSD to no avail.
And also, the scores I have read have been from day one purchasers of Bionics on stock. I ignore anything that does not specify that it was achieved on stock, and everything I have seen has been 2000+.
There is no reason my Bionic should be scoring 1400 and lower.
You should root your phone, it gives you things you wouldnt have dreamed of!
Don't know what to tell you...just got a 2683 in Quadrant on. 2333 ICS leak on my Bionic (though mine was bumped to.1.2Ghz with the leak).
Total 2683
CPU 3770
Mem 3008
I/O 3145
2D 1000
3D 2414

After the factory reset, when you logged in to your account, did you log into more than one?
Also, was it by chance downloading things like mail in the background? Try disabling all sync and even putting it in airplane mode and then see.
Also, how much charge on your battery? Remember that stock BIONIC settings also have that delicious night mode settings as well....

I know the galaxy is a fast phone but for reason my phone does not seem to perform very well compared to other galaxy s3. I don't have the power saving mode on and yet my benchmarks are lower. i used Antutu to do this and the galaxy s3 for other phones are usually above 10000 and mine can only hit about
9300. can anyone tell me what the problem is?

Antutu is rubbish with the i9305 phones I even talked with the Dev and he agreed something was not right about the results and hopefully the bugs get ironed out in future releases. I Overclocked mine to 1.7Ghz and got a score of 8000 then I put it back to normal and got 12500 then i tried it again and got 9000 its just ridiculous, I mean Even quadrant is more stable i am getting over 7000K constanlty with a highest of 7400 but this is when I am OC to 1.7ghz and thats an insane score for quadrant, Stock I9300 get around 5000 with quadran just to show you the difference.. By the way that is using Quadrant Pro
You should not base your laggyness with benchmark results everyone knows they dont mean much and if it actually feels laggy and slow and its completely stock and you dont have it on power savings mode and you have not installed any 3rd party apps which could cause the biug Then i am afraid its a hardware issue but if you have a custom rom/kernel installed 3rd party apps well 1st thing to do is remove EVERTHING go back to stock straight out of the box and see if its still slow, because it shouldnt these phones a beautiful straight from thebox even.
thx for the info. tats probably y I had thought it was my phone. I can't say much about feeling the lag while using my phone cuz I'm almost never using power hungry apps but I only got worried cuz I was playing spirit xhd and it was just soooo laggy I couldn't even play.

OK, if you can't find any rogue app, it might be the next thing to try.
Switched my Turbo over to ART thinking there was no reason not to on a device with this hardware. Turns out everything from the launcher to apps to boot are slower/laggy. Even swapping back and forth between homescreens has noticeable jitters. Anybody else attempted this or had different results?
I didnt notice a difference in perceivable performance. My antutu score went up though. Interestingly, runtime performance went down in ART, but multitasking went way up.
My score went from 44.3129 to 36.876, when I activated art.

Yeah, I switched mine and did notice this. So I switched back and am waiting till lollipop comes out to try it again.

The version of ART in kitkat is beta and was never intended for general use. It was there to help developers test their programs for when Lollipop came with it as default. Not surprising that it's buggy, still, on KK.

So far for me exactly the same as 5.0 - smooth and lag free

False. It´s even faster.
Same for me.
5.0.1 doubled my speed !
After a new flash it seems really faster
It's no different for me.
It now butters my toast.
My only problem is with battery. 60% in 3 hours without touch the smartphone.
its smooth as butter man here man, i would say even better reception with new radio
It seems like any update has a random chance of causing issues such as slow downs. Try a factory reset.
I feel faster

For me 1% with wifi off.
Feels faster for me too. I noticed it immediately.
5.0.1 seems to bring the micro stutters (music buzzing) that are more often now than on 5.0. I had before a Nexus 4 and the stuttering was really bad. Had flashed the factory image of 5.0.1 and the stuttering is worse than ever. Went back and forth between 5.0 and 5.0.1 just to test behavior, but regarding this issue, 5.0.1 is much worse. Reverted back to 5.0 as it is more stable. And kernel build date, 20 October, really? (as there seemed to be slight changes between 5.0 and 5.0.1)
This discussion is pretty useless TBH. It depends on the user mostly. Someone's got 50 apps installed and uses the phone just for phone calls, someone else may have 250 apps installed and uses the phone for all kind of things. Which means you can't really compare it.

I purchased a new prepaid T-Mobile Note 4 from BestBuy few days ago. Today I have noticed that when I run benchmarks, I am getting very low scores. On Antutu, I am only getting around 26000, but sometimes I am getting the normal scores i.e, 46k. Even when running other benchmark applications, I noticed that I was getting only around half scores but sometimes I am getting normal scores.
I don't understand this strange behaviour. Is my phone defective ? Should I return it ?
P.S: I have not rooted this phone. I tried a factory reset, and there is no power saving mode turned on.
Does the phone feel slow? Is it heating up under normal use?
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Premium HD app
The phone is OK and gets heated up at times. Yesterday I played MC5 for about 15mins it was okay, but sometimes while running benchmarks it gets heated up
Can someone help me my phone feels absolutely normal but my benchmark scores are not that good.... Really?
Stop benchmarking phones I keep telling people that.. Not everyone phone will perform the same as long as it feels nice and snappy you should be all set
Some people have loaded hundreds of apps on to their phones, which can affect performance.
Do you have a lot of apps? How's your free space?
I wouldn't really rely on benchmarks as the sole indicator of performance. That being said, is the phone laggy? You said it performs "OK" but one person's idea of OK can be quite different than the next persons idea of it.
Also, where did you purchase the phone from? There's quite a few fake Note 4's floating around. If you purchased it through your carrier, go ahead and request a swap.
Do you have on power saver mode?
Best buy sells note4 for TMOBILE? Hmmmm by me they don't support any TMOBILE.

I know benchmarks are not an indication of performance, but atleast there should be some consistency, right ? Sometimes, I get normal scores similar to other Note 4 devices as expected. But sometime I get HALF the scores or much less than older devices, something which is not expected out of this device. So I doubt is there anything wrong my particular unit ?

Yes they are selling a prepaid No contract Note 4 locked to T-Mobile network. I got it for 699. Now it is out of stock though ! And yeah, it is indeed a bad ass PHONE !!
Majority of benchmarks put so much load on processor that after few minutes it heats up, overheat protection kicks in and slows down cpu. If you run few benchmarks one after each other then phone has no time to cool off. There is some roms available on xda which modifies how long you can run on full speed and higher temperature until cpu slows down.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
A modified kernel is the only thing that will allow you to adjust thermal throttling. Hoever i do not recomend adjusting theses settings, this will damage your cpu. Thats what the thermal governor is for.
Oh, yeah. When I got my N4, the benchmarks sucked! Slower than my S3! Rooted, put on a custom ROM and it's all good. No heating, nothing. Even went back to Stock when the update came...and it was still good. Not sure, what was wrong...or what happened from Stock to Custom to Stock...

Haha yes. It's very strange though. So, I have finally decided to root and install a custom ROM. I only hope there is no heating.
And do I lose the possibility of updating to official Lollipop through Odin (not OTA's) when the offical 5.0.2 comes out ?
Thanks

Overheating should be reduced. Lollipop you will have to odin stock firmware or if you made a back up of stock rom with a stock kernel.

I'm not gonna go running out to get lollipop as soon as it comes out. I will wait to see what issues people are having first. Right now I'm pretty satisfied with kit kat.
