So I upgraded my Gear to Tizen and installed the latest gear manager on my note 3. All notifications are set properly afaik.
However, when I receive email I never get notifications on my gear. I get calendar alerts fine. I have multiple email accounts including Gmail and exchange.
Is this functionality broke? Any way to get this working?
Anyone? I reset my gear this morning and added it back to my phone. Emails were flowing for all of maybe... 10 minutes including exchange. Then they just stopped again.
They show in the notifications piece of my Gear, but I don't get the alert/preview.
Theres not a single person in here that uses exchange email and has similar issues on their gear?

Good afternoon, Everyone - I hope everyone is having a great Saturday so far.
I, on the other hand, am incredibly frustrated and tired of trying to figure this out on my own... Also, I am in the middle of the woods today, and on a mobile device, so I am not as careful as I always am, so if by chance this has already been asked in a different thread, I am very sorry and I apologize...
I have the Note 3 with all latest updates. Not rooted. I also have the Galaxy Gear watch, again all the latest updates. I bought this watch primarily for two uses - to get notifications of my incoming text messages using the stock Samsung messaging app. Check - works great. The other reason, was so that I could get AND read my email messages using the stock Samsung email application. Check - works gr.... uh... not exactly. And HERE is my frustration...
Currently, in my STOCK Samsung Email app, I have the following accounts set up:
3 Gmail Accounts
1 Yahoo Account
1 Exchange work email account
Every time an email comes in on ANY of these accounts, I get an immediate notification on my watch. I can swipe, and read the entire email message. This is ALL I wanted. HOWEVER, even though in the very same stock email app, in the very same combined in-box, if I get a message specifically to my work Exchange email account, the watch ONLY displays that I have a message and to open it on the phone. It will not show ANYTHING in the email. But... the other accounts do with no problem! Why just this account, in the very same email app, with the same appearance and layout as the others??? I need this account more than anything - the others are just for fun and personal family, etc.
I did manage a temporary workaround however, but I am HOPING that you amazing folks here at XDA can give me an idea towards a solution. If I set up a MANUAL account to my work server using IMAP, our work server will allow me to only CHECK the mail, but not send. So I have no choice but to keep the existing Exchange account set up in my Samsung Mail App. However, I set up a SECOND entry in the same mail app, with my email address checking the email from my work server using IMAP and TLS. I just can't send.
Once I did that, I now receive TWO of every email from work. One in my normal inbox without a notification (turned off to avoid all the extra alerts on the phone), and the OTHER entry (IMAP) that I have labeled "Galaxy Gear Work Notifier". Now, the email WILL DISPLAY on my Watch, and I can read the whole email. But, if I pick up my phone to reply to the message, I have to switch inboxes on the mail app to the "real" Exchange one, and reply to the email.
There just has to be an easier way than this!!! I also own the Sony SmartWatch 2, but I personally don't like it as much as the Gear - but the Sony will read everything with all of the second party email notifiers out there.
Regardless that this is an Exchange account, it is coming into the very SAME STOCK SAMSUNG email application - so why do all the other email accounts display their email in full on the watch, but the one Exchange mail that comes in only says "open on phone" - what am I missing? This is driving me crazy, the fact that I can't figure this out....
I would appreciate any and all ideas VERY much - more than you know. Thank you in advance for helping and for the ideas. I appreciate it!

HELLO AGAIN guys - I have an update...
I was so pissed by all of this - mainly because I was SURE there was something that I was doing wrong, and that I couldn't figure it out.... SOOO - I called Samsung, and went to tier 3 support and spoke to an engineer (called the main support line, got to the Mobile device department, then Galaxy Gear), and they said that they were aware that the notifications with Microsoft Exchange accounts, even those set up within their stock app, were temporarily broken and would refer the user to open the mail on their phone.... but an update is being released at any time now again to the Gear which fixes this issue. By taking the Exchange authentication/security out of the loop, this is why my manually set IMAP version of the same email was working. He assured me that they received a large number of calls on this specific issue, mainly because of all the business users who rely on Exchange as their email method, using the stock mail app. So he promised this was being addressed asap. At least, I now KNOW that this was not just me, and that I was not nuts. If it's "supposed" to be broken right now, and they are addressing it, then I'm fine with that and can use my IMAP workaround for the time being...
Thanks very much everyone - have a great rest of the weekend!!!
Mike
Hello Guys,
I wanted to share my experience here with the latest Gear Manager update to version 1.6.
The main reason why I am using and keeping the Galaxy gear is the email notification not having to pull out my cell phone in meetings and check my email. I can discretely check the email and see if an email is important enough to pull out my cell phone or my laptop.
I didn't like the fact that there is no internet, etc on the Gear and I was also disappointed that the app amount is so limited compared to Google Play not to mention that Gear 2 is out not even 6 months after the Gear.
Anyway, with the latest Gear Manager 1.6 the email feature became useless as the message came up with "Due to security reasons this email cannot...". I tried everything with restore, etc to make the feature work again but I failed.
So then I went out there and installed NULL ROM 23 with the custom recovery and the email feature still didn't work.
Then I downloaded Gear Manager 1.7 and the email feature still didn't work.
The ONLY way to get my email working again on the Gear was to deinstall Gear Manager on the phone and upload via ADB the Gear Manager version 1.5. Now I have NULL ROM 23 with TWRP and Gear Manager 1.5 and my email is working again.
I don't know what Samsung is thinking but they sold over 80.000 devices between September 2013 and November 2013 and by January 2014 they had sold over 500.000 Gear devices worldwide. With $300 a pop that's $150M revenue.
Such a behavior of making THE most important feature of the Gear useless is like telling 500.000 people that we are using the Gear as a test ground and we don't care what you guys think.
I hope that my experience above will help other people facing the same issue and how to get their email working again but I should also point out that once you have your Gear email working again, you might want to disable the "Autoupdate" feature within Gear Manager.

thanks for sharing this! there is a general one rule - if something works the way you expect it - do not even try to update. i've done it way too many times.
I'm using the galaxy gear with the stock installation and latest updates on both the Gear rom and Gear manager, and I can read all my emails (including Exchange server emails).

Gear Manager 1.6.13 and Gear ROM NA6 (just released in the US yesterday, it also worked fine on MK7 which is what was released in December I believe)
I'm not sure what is meant by 'secure' emails, but it was my understanding that this issue was only occurring for exchange server emails. It's working fine for me, though (with Exchange server emails).

Yes, I was referring to Exchange emails. Gmail, SMS, etc worked fine but with the latest update emails stopped working. They gave us a new bundled view of the emails but removed the ability to read those emails on the Gear. I tried it multiple times even with factory reset but every email was secured and could only be viewed on the cell phone but not on the gear.
This update sucks I need my corporate exchange emails on my gear. Is there an easy way to get it working again? Can I just flash the old software to the gear with kies?

As I stated above. The easiest way to get this working again is to:
1) Uninstall Gear Manager 1.6 via Settings and Application Manager which will take a while until all submodules are uninstalled
2) Download the Gear Manager 1.5 APK for your region
3) Install Gear Manager 1.5 via KIES or ADB (SDK) by using adb install
4) Once installed uncheck the "autouprade" checkbox in the Gear Manager settings
The only Gear Manager that has been able to reliably work for me is 1.2.131013. Any other version would fail for me after just one reboot.

So i have null 21 on my watch and I am also using Gear Manager 1.5.123002
I have the email app that came with the null rom configured with my gmail account and I also have the gmail app install on my watch too. I was able to sideload the gmail2.apk onto my watch.
One thing I am wondering though...has anyone been able to get email notifications to work on their gear manager with these email apps?
Is there a way to setup with Gear Manager to get an email notification?
I was wondering if anyone has figured anything like that out...or is the only way to check with the gmail app or stock email app (which requires an internet connection) ?
Thanks again...

Depending on the version of GM you're using, GMail notifications can be enabled under either Notifications or Settings/Notifications. Also, if you can bluetooth tether to your phone, you can install a lot of apps directly.

Well i know for a fact that gmail notifications are not available on the gear manager 1.5.123002
My wireless provider does in fact offer bluetooth tethering...so i guess i am going to have to upgrade my gear manager.
I am a bit concerned because this gear manager has been working great with my watch + null 21 rom

I don't see how it doesn't work. 1.2.131013 is obviously an earlier version and Gmail notification works with that.
You know what I was just looking at Gear Manager and under the "more notifications" section I saw that somehow it had been turned "off".
And on the list of "more notifications" is the default email account. I also selected gmail as part of the notifications under the "more notifications" list.
I configured the default email app with my yahoo email and i turned "on" more notifications in gear manager.
Hopefully this will start giving me email notifications....

Ok so yesterday my phone installed the latest version of Gear Manager and my Gear was flashed and rebooted. After the reboot I can no longer read exchange emails. It says it can't show the emails because of security reasons. This is the entire reason I bought the Gear. I get about 350-400 emails a day and it's convenient to preview them on the watch instead of the phone for every email. Can anyone help me get email working again on the Gear? Also, will this be a problem on the Gear 2 I just ordered? Thanks very much in advance.
Samsung won't support Gear 1 with Galaxy S5

I did post in this thread how you can get your email for Exchange working again.
With that said here is another update:
I purchased the S5 Galaxy SM-G900T and it installs by default Gear Manager 1.7. This version comes up with the same error message that Exchange emails cannot be viewed on the Gear but only on the phone.
I did chat with support from Samsung and here is the emailed transcript:
Visitor: Samsung S5 SM-G900T
Visitor: Brand new since today
Visitor: Android version 4.2.2
Visitor: Sorry, 4.4.2
Visitor: Typo
Visitor: Galaxy Gear model SM-V700
Visitor: Anything else you need?
Daisy: Thank you for explaining.
Daisy: May I place you on hold for 3 minutes, while I gather the information on your request?
Visitor: sure. I just want my Exchange emails to be readable again on my Gear watch. Take your time.
Daisy: Thank you.
Daisy: Thank you for holding.
Daisy: As the issue started after upgrading the device to S5. It could be the compatibility issue.
Daisy: I can see that the S5 will support the gear 2 version.
Visitor: So you are saying that the Gear 1 is no longer supported with the S5?
Visitor: Is this what you are saying?
Daisy: Yes, you are correct.
Visitor: If this is the case then I will throw the gear one right back at Samsung because you sold 800.000 Gear one watches since September 2013 and 6 months later you discontinue support with the new S5 and just to remind Samsung paying $300 for a watch is not something trivial.
Daisy: I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you.
Visitor: thanks. I will escalate this properly. Have a nice day.
Daisy: Thank you for your feedback about this issue.
I just uninstalled Gear Manager 1.7 and I installed Gear Manager 1.5 and my Exchange emails are working again on my Gear 1.
Now on N6 coming from Note 3 I miss the touchwiz mail... Well it had an option to only get mail notifications 8-5p M-F and none on weekend. This was for exchange so I don't get company mail
The N6 mail does not have a sync scheduling option like Note 3. Is there a particular app or process that I can find 3rd party to turn sync of mail on/off automatically like listed above?

I was in the same boat coming from the Note 3. I found that gmail exchange wasn't downloading some huge emails so I tried mail wise and it worked good then I switched to cloud magic. Cloud magic is like gmail exchange and looks like gmail and unfortunately I haven't found any peak adjustments there. I didn't like mail wise interface...it didn't have a material theme.
Use maildroid and you can either modify your notifications or actual connection to the server.
@parcou, I use Nine, it's not free, but for me it's the best exchange client for android, it have that option an more, example: you can combine a peak period using push and a off peak period using pull for x minutes you choose, or off peak never get email, etc...
I thanked you all...
I will begin today trying those apps... I hate to go outside the built-in apps but I really need this function to not have company mail notification all day...
I did not know Gmail had that option when I go setup an account in Gmail only list pop/imap but since not peak time scheduling no worries any way...
Thx for feedback let me begin to test...
Check out Mail Wise. Just learned of it recently and I love it. You can set when to receive alerts etc.

Hello,
i've not bought the watch yet.
i would like to know, first, if it's possible to sync just one of the several gmail account that syncs on the phone.
thank you
The watch receives any and all notifications you have on your phone. So if other emails are set to notify in the phone it will show up on the watch.

Whilst it is possible to mute an app (so that alerts only appear on hte phone and not the watch), I think that would apply to gmail as a whole. In other words, you would either get all gmail notifications (for all accounts) or else you would get none.
HTH
Use 2 differents mail app for each GMail account and block notification on watch for unwanted app(GMail account).
You can also use "eNotify" for the watch and not send GMail with your all account notification to your watch.
I've been switching between the stock email app and the gmail app. Sending gmail notifications to my Gear Neo.
The stock email app sends the good email notifications to my watch, however I want to use the Gmail app instead. If I use the gmail app, I still get my Gmail notifications, however getting several the gmails, the notifications doesn't show the sender like the stock email.
Is there a workaround or solution? To receive the good notifications like the stock, do I need to keep using the stock?
