ZR/dogo's 2nd Mic Doesn't Work on Custom ROM - Sony Xperia ZR

I just want to start this thread to consolidate the info...
First: zr/dogo (c5502/c5503) has a 2nd mic...
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...ry-in-Config/m-p/699221/highlight/true#M41451
However, on all custom roms, it's not present/detected at all, it can be tested via recording video, then covering the main microphone. Normally, with stock rom, there'll still be sound, but on custom rom because 2nd mic is not working, there will be no sound.
The issue has been reported separately here:
https://code.google.com/p/freexperia/issues/detail?id=2286&q=ZR OR C5502 OR C5503
And here:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-4818
And mentioned numerous times in xda's zr forums.
The solution, currently, is to return to stock.
Note that this is not the same problem as troubled recording sound in stock roms, like this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690192

I've reported it even on MoKee ROM bug tracker.

maybe we can try nagging the devs at http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#freexperia

I am also keeping away from custom ROMs only because of this 2nd mic issue.

- Sell the zr, and buy nexus. I think it is not so good phone, but has support.
- Learn programming and rewrite the zr's kernel.
Sorry, but no useful idea :banghead:

btw, please register an account and vote in the bugtrackers? see if it'd make a difference.
thx.

just reflashed stock again, video recording works.............................................................. FXP devs please help.

And I was thinking that "to hell with stock I am bored and CM 'L' here I come.."

wait that's a freexperia and cm bug right? then not all custom roms have that only freexperia and official cm, so you should tell them about this bug.
also did you used my omni too? it's based on AOSP but unfortunately freexperia kernel, so try that and see if second mic working?
and in that case the miui you mentioned ... it has working second mic try the latest one which is based on stock sony 4.2.2 for now.
EDIT: I see, there is bug reported for that but only 10.1 and 10.2 not bug reported for 11.
so if you want to get this solved or at least considered please download latest cm11 from Official cyanogenMod and fxp, get logcat while record a video and sound (use with adb "adb logcat > log.txt") , create new report with logcat in both fxp and cm bug reported and MENTION that this has logcat so nobody says it's just the dupplicate! also note that cyanogen won't accept bug report for nightlies you need to bug report for 10.2 stable one if for cm11 rejected ! with all this maybe they consider resolving dogo 2nd mic.
have fun.

then do it on fxp, but I don't think they are building it using fxp as their builds are hell of a lot different! I know that because I merge things from official cm and fxp and Xperia Z aosp to make omni (It's pretty much pizza baking alright lol :laugh! so much different in libs and kernel in both builds! but still you can try it on fxp.

you mean this?
https://code.google.com/p/freexperia/issues/detail?id=2286
i would say the fxp-cm collaboration is currently damaging the development. the fxp team are so busy that they don't care about their bugtracker and small bugs (they'll fix it if the latest build is not bootable), otoh cm team is not working on xperia devices because it's the responsibility of the fxp team.
thx for the info, btw, i like using cm, it's a good balance of increased functionality (on top of aosp) and stable while not having too much customisation, imo. many custom roms makers are teenagers who incorporate too much cutting edge stuffs for my taste. but i don't want to go back to stock either...

cm bugtracker admin closed the original bug, it's been re-created.

[AOSP] Who should I be following as the better AOSP. CM or FreeXperia?

Hey so I love that we have AOSP for my Sony = Sony Nexus!!
But who should I be following as the cutting edge of AOSP. I know Sony releases some sources but not the proprietary ones so I know most of it comes from there. I myself have just installed the latest RC3 of CM 10.1. And the bugs I used to have like Lockscreen delay and No audio on Hangouts seem to have gone. But why should I install FreeXperia over CM?
Is CM the base that everyone bases their AOSP on? Is Free Xperia more focused on the Sony Specific Issues?
And what about Linaro? Carbon? AOKP? Are they all based off the same source (they all seem to have the same bugs)
Thoughts? Direction?
Thanks in advance!
First of all, CM roms are made by the FXP team as they are official CM maintainers for Sony devices.
Secondly, Sony's AOSP sources are different from that of CM sources. AOSP implies pure android with stock customizations. CM sources is heavily customizable (think of all the settings you can do in CM10.1) they are based on Google's open source as well as the device specific source code released by Sony.

I too would like to know this - obviously, they're very close, but there must be something different there.
I spent an hour trying to find this out the other night - got slightly excited when I saw a message from some poor sucker who explained he was a noob, etc, blah, blah, and would someone please explain the difference. The only reply he got was a terse demand that he go read the FreeXperia dev thread and work it out for himself ...
If someone can write an explanatory sentence or two about the difference between the builds on the official Cyanogen Mod site and the FXP* builds from freexperiaproject.com, I would appreciate it.

hey man, I had forgotten that I had made this thread but long story short FXP and CM are the same. CM has their own schedule, standards and code they develop and CM work towards AOSP for all their devices. FXP are SONY only, They use the code by CM and are responsible for both the Sony releases via CM and FXP. How FXP differs is that they can go ahead and release a lot of versions without any established "stable" or milestones they just release updates as they go. CM take those Sony specific changes that are made and combine them standard CM code are release Milestones, RC's and Nightlies with varying results
TLDR: They are the same, All the Sony specific code in CM is FROM FXP, FXP has no interest in making a stable version they just release new code in an almost "nightly" fashion. Their is no guarantee that the newest FXP will be more stable then the previous, its the same risk you take when you go with CM nightlies.
Personally I prefer CM Nightlies. If you want stable (with established bugs) go with CM, if you want to be running the latest CM code go with CM but if you want the latest sony fixes (unstable at times) go FXP, who updates about 1 every 1-2 weeks
Great explanation mate, thanks for that.

But I just would like to know how is the battery life on this rom?
What about the power button? Does it work properly? Because I had this issue on android 4.3 based rom's.
And the camera? Clear images and sharper?
Thanks in advance!

By the way, in my opinion android 4.2.2 is the most stable atm

Build that we currently have ported by Demetris is 4.2.2 and for me it is the best custom rom out there.Camera and battery are great even with stock app and stock kernel.Alwayse switching between MIUI and LiquidSmooth.Flash it and test is for couple of days yourself and see if you are satisfied.

It's even easier for YOU to test it yourself. Backup your current setup and flash it. Most of the mentioned bugs aren't even for everybody and it is actually quite hard for the devs to make a full list of bugs which occur for every single user.
If you don't agree with that it's your fault. The devs are doing an awesome job here and they do it because they want to.

In my honest opinion, bugs should be on the OP if they are known bugs. It's a matter of structure and information. But that's just me
From what I understood, carbon is a "fork" from Liquid and I think it's a compilation from source and not a port, right? If so, is it possible to compile Liquid from source as well ?
This question is for someone who knows or a developer

No, they stated the following:
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. The team is composed of former members of Team Liquid who have forked the code in an attempt to bring greater speed, better coding, and full authorship to code. We are in no way affiliated with Liquid0624. The rom was forked at Liquid beta 3.2.1 and has since undergone major code changes and modifications.

Far as I understood the source is published.
Will see what I can do during the weekend

And yeah, I agree, I'm pretty happy with CM10. 1.3. Although I do miss the privacy features from 4.3.
Mods can lock and delete this since demerits answered our prayers and ported new version.

I know it's an important bug, but your question is like asking for ETA. You should wait or try to fix it by yourself.
You'll know when it's fixed.
Ask @Rox too
Does this ROM have low incall volume bug? (low incall volume + when you press volume down, it increases call volume) In CM11 this issue appears and it seem RR ROM uses same device sources.
And battery life? Is good or drain fast?

I'm part of RR Team as an official maintainer of the ROM for janice.
Plus, we have OTA support now.
That's why it's declared as OFFICIAL.
Ah thanks for the answer.l
Last question, why then RR team build the rom from scratch for our device instead of that this rom is based on TC CM11.

Maybe you should learn a little bit more about sources, specially open sources.
It's not "based on CM11", but it uses device tree forked from TC repo.
Why build from scratch when we already have public sources? And, anyway, that should be made by RR devs (which I don't think possible as it will requiere lot of time, and they don't even have the phone).
I didn't know the things very well. Thanks.

I'm trying a little more before returning JB because it is a great ROM. The only issue I have at the moment is INCALL VOL.
And Battery drain is higher than JB STOCK + Cocore 8.2.
My question right now is: camera. Quality of the photos is not good. Mainly Macros.
Videos untested.
Any suggestions to replace? Something closer to Stock CAM?
Or any tip for the cam in RR?
Thanks

Way cool, will backup can test what's listed as working and see if i can find more of what's not working.
Thanks
Has changed the default language en_US.Update rom url
Not bad!
So I gave this test ROM a try. It's nice to see KitKat running on an Atrix 4G! I'm so excited to see some progress!
However, there are definitely several issues with it. The problems I found are:
Calls/text doesn't work
Mobile data doesn't work (says AT&T 4G but no connection)
SuperSU doesn't appear to work (crashed when opening and wouldn't let an app have root access)
Bluetooth didn't turn on for me (but I see you seemed to get it working, maybe it was just bad luck)
No WIFI (doesn't scan as you stated in the post)
Couldn't test any apps or camera because I couldn't restore my apps without root, and the camera must be a part of gapps now, which I also didn't install.
I was also gonna post some screenshots but it wouldn't let me snapshot (said storage error?)
Just thought I would sum up my experience so far. Thanks for letting us test out this promising new ROM! :good:

K's kernels are CM9 and CM10.1 based. This is a CM11 based kernel with a build date of 6 Aug 14
Calls - No go
BT (file transfer) - Go
Wifi - same as OP reported
Battery - same as OP reported (There's no way that after 8 hrs it should still be at 100%)
Speakers/Headphones - No go
Apollo/DSP Manager - Crash
Ravilov's Battery Fix app - scripts not able to be executed
Thanks!!!
Mobile data seems to be working, Bluetooth and superuser. ART included, I'll do more testing later.

Don't be harsh to K, as I was fixing audio segfault in CM 4.4.4, the more I realized most of the audio problem (like Skype, Bluetooth error) is more ROM related than Kernal related. And what about to use - for now - the old kernel like epinter's CM10?, in XOOM kitkat they use and old 2.x kernel too, the hardware acceleration its not really a problem compared to use and unfinished kernel with more issues to solve.
Anyway we agree that Kristianp is doing it's best work to continue developing the 3.1 kernel, so any negative comentary should not be allowed as most of us are only users and some cooperate with minimal things.
I could boot my second atrix, now time to BL Unlock, root, etc and it's ready to test some KK roms.
It's great to see the "4.4.4" in the settings
Mobile internet works fine.
Kitkat feels quite snappy on this "too old, too slow" hardware.
Thank you so much for keeping the Atrix alive.
Will try to install the Play Store and test out some apps!
cannot wait to try this!
Booted up fine and looks slick. had to do some searching around to find how to switch to ART.
Also had to use Z's recovery_4.3.img... ROM won't install with TWRP.
Wish I could do more testing like battery but it's not feasible at the moment.
Looking forward to other releases to test.
Really love the tons of options available in KK.

TWRP 2.6.3 gives errors and aborts installation.

I believe, based off of what i've seen, 2.6.3.0 is the minimum to flash 4.4 ROMs, but 2.7 is reccommended.
Sent from my MB886 using xda app-developers app
There's no 2.7 for Atrix and apparently there's also no 4ext Recovery, so the only ways are CWM or Z's recovery (will try Z's on Monday or Tuesday)

[DISCUSSION] [Xperia T] "Official" CM11 vs FXP

I've been wondering for awhile now, which is better? The official CM11 builds, or the unofficial FXP builds for Xperia T? If anyone's tried both recently, please give your thoughts on performance, battery life, stability, etc. comparisons between the two. Thanks!
Personally I think both are not great. Non of the custom roms are

That's not helpful, dude...if you're not going to contribute to the discussion then don't post. Thanks anyways though.
You're asking people for there opinion and i gave mine. I tried every rom so yes it does contribute to the discussion

When you simply say that you dislike both ROMs and all custom ROMs on the T in general, that's not contributing. It doesn't help anyone decide between CM11 and FXP. The discussion is about how you think these ROMs compare to each other. If you're just gonna say that you think they both suck, then there's no point in posting.
I suggest you know the "difference", if you could call it like this, of these two ROMs?
If not, I'll quote myself from another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54754522&postcount=1049)
They've [FPX] got their own FXP releases (unofficial CM releases) which do not come that frequent (with their own boot animation e.g.); in the meantime they work on official CM - so they make the nightlies and your [CM] M9, too.

Meaning: FXP releases necessarily/of course contain CM code, because they maintain/supply CM for our Xperias. For FXP unofficials don't come as frequently as CM nightlies, the chance of getting a stable build is bigger than with CM nightlies. Because the FXP releases always contain FXP boot animations, these will never be official CM builds - what, in the end, implicates that neither FXP nor CM is better per se.
I'd prefer FXP over CM nightlies, but a CM snapshot over FXP relases. Just a feeling - there's no absoulte answer.

TX here, but if I had to recommend one, I'd go with FXP, since I know that they at least do own a T, and can develop properly; at least it would seem so. Obviously FXP uses CM code.
On the other hand, if I had to choose, I'd choose neither and go with one of the Omni builds made by @tilal6991, since he's actually implemented fixes that, as far as I know, the "real" developers haven't done yet.
Most of the problems I see T users reporting (such as the blue screen flickers) are because they are using FXP/CM builds, and, as far as I know, Tilal fixed that, as an example.
We do not allow comparison threads on XDA, comparing or asking which is best can be seen as disrespectful towards the developers who's work is being compared. Besides the question is subjective.
