[HOW TO] Stop Google 4.4.3 Downloading - Nexus 5 General

im sure this has been mentioned before, but im seeing it popup all over 4.4.2 rom treads. so, here's how to stop your nexus 5 continuously downloading the 4.4.3 update...
root is required you need a app manager with root permissions, I use rom tool box. in its app manager, select google services, then select advanced freeze and look for anything that is labeled 'update service' or similar, and freeze it! this will stop your phone downloading the update...

Well, if you have a custom recovery just take the update... It will fail. And that will be the end of that.... No mo update notices or downloads.

you can. but this is more for people getting hassled by the constant google notifications when the update doesn't download properly...

I've had 2 devices and this has never failed to work. It IS true.
My current phone hasn't had this issue since 4.4.2's release... Nada.

That worked. The pending 4.4.3 update went away after rebooting.

untick notifications in both..
Google play services
Google services framework
.. in settings/apps, you don't need root for this method

[Q] HTC One Automatically Reboots "Process com.htc.htcdialer isn't responding"
I managed to "successfully" flash the ViperOne 6.1.0 ROM onto my Sprint HTC One (S-On.) However, I get a message saying "Process com.htc.htcdialer isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" This causes my phone to automatically reboot every couple of minutes, making it useless. I also noticed some thins don't work such as the Play Store and the search bar on the home screen. It is apparent that something is wrong with the flash (even though I tried to flash it twice after I saw this behaviour the first time and I did wipe both times.)
What is going on? How can I fix it? What causes it (what I really want to know is if I were to fix it and then attempt to install the ROM again, would it cause the issue again?)
Maybe flash the latest radio/baseband

Does that mean flash the firmware? If so, that won't be possible. My phone is S-On, and from what I've read it needs to be S-Off. I tried to make it S-Off a few minutes ago using Rumrunner but it failed (because my phone automatically rebooted during the process I assume.)
Plus, I can't access my phone's storage via my computer; it doesn't seem to mount properly. Wouldn't matter if it did anyways, as it disconnects after a minutes anyways. I was hoping I could just install the stock ROM and leave this stuff alone for now.
I should mention that this is the first time I've ever tried to flash a custom ROM or really do anything "advanced" with an Android phone. I didn't expect to run into so many bloody problems. What a nightmare.

You can flash the radio from recovery.
Since you can't connect to PC while booted to rom boot to recovery and type
Code:
adb push filename.zip /sdcard/
When it's on your phone just choose it and flash once it's done flashing wipe cache and dalvik cache and you should be good

Okay, I flashed the latest radio. So far it hasn't said anything about the dialer crashing and when I open it, it actually works. However, the play store and search bar (and probably other things) still don't work. Something is still wrong.
For now I just want to make my phone work and I will try to go back to the stock ROM, though I still want to get the custom ROM working.

I flashed it doesn't seem like it's helping. The only problem that I am experiencing right now is that the play store doesn't work. It just shows a blank, white screen and seems to re-open over itself. I get a notification saying "An application requires installation of Google Play Services. Requested by com.google.android.gsf.login" When I click on the notification, it takes me to the play store and nothing happens (though one time the phone rebooted after I pressed it.) I found that I do have Google Play Services installed and that the notification is supposed to take me to the store page for the app, but it doesn't work.

Managed to remove to account but can't add it. When I try to sign in, it says "There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later." I am sure I have an internet connection because I checked by opening the browser and doing a random Google search.

Connected via Wi-Fi. My phone says I am also connected to the network, but I believe that this is false because I have not activated my phone (unless activating it on the stock ROM transfers over to this one?) and in the rare occasion that I get ANY service in this part of my home, it'd be only one bar, not four.

Ah, okay. I thought I had to have the app installed. Didn't know I had to do it through the app rather than settings. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the Google log-in issue. I also noticed that now if I try to access YouTube, it will tell me that it needs Google Play Services and that I don't have it installed.

I posted earlier stating that I saw Google Play Services listed under my apps, and it was up-to-date as far as I know. It does ask me if I want to install it but then takes me to the Google account sign-in (which I can't sign into.) Clearing the data on every Google app I saw and rebooting did not resolve the sign-in issue.
I'm going to try to re-flash the ROM, fix, and radio because I managed to sign in during the set-up. I'll see if that clears up all of my problems.
EDIT: WORKED! Few minutes in and not a single problem so far. Signed into Google and the Play Store works. I may be speaking too soon though.
Thanks for the help!
Side question: How can I remove some apps such as HTC Apps and HTC Backup? I click on them and it says the apps are not installed but they still show up in the list of apps.

[TIP] How to disable the Google OTA updates completely

PROCEDURE to disable the Google Official OTA updates completely:
*. You need to be rooted for this.
1. Install this app: Disable Services and open it.
2. Select the 'System' tab.
3. Select the "Google Services Framework" app and uncheck (disable) the following service: SystemUpdateService
4. Come back and select the "Google Play Services" and uncheck this service: SystemUpdateService
Tested and working on Android One devices & Google Nexus.
That's it! You'll never get the update notification and neither will you be able to check it manually.
If you, by chance, feel you want the update, you can re-enable these services again to receive updates.

Reasons why you might not like the 5.1 OTA update:
1. It is too materialistic!!
2. It doesn't support Xposed as of now.
3. You're too used to KitKat and abundant Mods available for it.
PROCEDURE to disable the OTA updates completely:

Yes it will. But you can just disable play services notification to don't receive update notification. That will do the job too, instead of this procedure.
thanks a lot dude... play services was auto downloading andoid one updates without a notice thereby hogging my data and battery. I'm on custom rom and I can't see the point of that.. Anyway I think this tweak fixed the issue.. thanks again.

Confirm, It does not work on 6.0.1. How to prevent update from 6.0.1 to 7.0? (Nexus 6)

Cannot install or update applications from the Play Store since upgrading to N

I enrolled on the beta program on my Nexus 6 and allowed it to update to Android N (June build) and now I cannot install anything from the Play Store or update applications through it. I get an error every time.
I have tried:
Turning it off and on.
Disabling Play Store and clearing the cache (cannot see anywhere to uninstall updates).
What should I try next? Should I try and uninstall the Play Store and reinstall it through apk?
Clear data of Google Play Services and Play Store then try installing/updating apps.
This did not work. It still just shows "Downloading" constantly and yet nothing happens. The bar just goes across endlessly til I stop it.
It is error code 495 if that helps, I will try Googling it now...

no clue why anyone wants N at this point; very few things actually work on it, and MM has so many fantastic roms/tweaks/features right now..
Its only another month or so until its officially out; especially if you are N00B, you should really wait until then

Truth be told I don't know a great deal about Android yet. I can do some basic stuff that average phone owners can't like installing apks but I've never flashed anything. I'm not scared to try with a step by step guide though so I might try one later. I will see what version of CM is newest - does CM automatically update now? So when Android N is launched it will update? Or I'd have to flash it again?
Just restart the device and then try. Or force stop playstore and run it again. i'm using android N beta (NPD56N) since 7 days and i found no bugs yet! its working perfect on my nexus 6

I was the same way when I started with my Evo. I've come a long way since then( only less fear lol). I've learned a lot from searching first, then if I can't figure it out, there's someone on here willing to help. Trial and error is a great teacher. I don't use CM anymore. I use pureNexus.. When it comes out for N, I'm going back to it. Beanz is a great developer. Make a rom back up and start flashing.

Yeah. I did that while I was doing the reset app preference. I would also uninstall the Google Playstore updates, but no go.
Currently, I updated from Lollipop to Marshmallow, so I'm going to see how things have changed. I haven't gotten to update an app or anything yet, so I can't see how well it fares.

Just updated to June OTA and cannot get chrome to stay open for more than a second. I cleared cache and data and nothing. Temporary solution for now in uninstalling updates since it's a system app. Anyone else having this issue?

Uninstal the updates and either Uninstal or disable the app, restart your device, reinstall or enable the app and update. Still not working? Insure the device and all apps are updated or up to date, check your security settings and try again. Still not working? Uninstal the updates for the app, disable the app, clear cache and data, go to APK pure or some other trust worthy APK site, download and install the updated APK's after enabling the app again ( enable the app before APK install) turn off automatic updates for play store temporally and don't update the app after re-enable, that's what the APK is for. Still have issues? Check to make sure your Google play store is the most recent version, or do that first then work your way back

Backup your device and completely reset it, I know it's a pain in the ass but the problem could be in a security certificate somewhere.
