PROCEDURE to disable the Google Official OTA updates completely:
*. You need to be rooted for this.
1. Install this app: Disable Services and open it.
2. Select the 'System' tab.
3. Select the "Google Services Framework" app and uncheck (disable) the following service: SystemUpdateService
4. Come back and select the "Google Play Services" and uncheck this service: SystemUpdateService
Tested and working on Android One devices & Google Nexus.
That's it! You'll never get the update notification and neither will you be able to check it manually.
If you, by chance, feel you want the update, you can re-enable these services again to receive updates.

Reasons why you might not like the 5.1 OTA update:
1. It is too materialistic!!
2. It doesn't support Xposed as of now.
3. You're too used to KitKat and abundant Mods available for it.
PROCEDURE to disable the OTA updates completely:

If you, by chance, feel you want the update, you can try re-enabling these services again, but this will help only till Google is giving the batch updates. Otherwise, there are many download links for it, so just download and flash it via recovery if required.

Yes it will. But you can just disable play services notification to don't receive update notification. That will do the job too, instead of this procedure.
thanks a lot dude... play services was auto downloading andoid one updates without a notice thereby hogging my data and battery. I'm on custom rom and I can't see the point of that.. Anyway I think this tweak fixed the issue.. thanks again.

Hey Everyone,
How are you Guys today?
I received the OTA Notification on my phone about System Update (305.5MB).
Someone can tell me how can I Rid of this Update on my Phone?
At the moment I am happy with 4.3 but the Notification of the update do not want go away and I have to be really carefully all the time to do not click the Update now.
There is any way to disable this Update on my phone with the Notification?
BTW, I am on Stock.
You can go to settings/Apps/All and force to stop Update Center. The bad news is that you will have to do this after every reboot.
alternativly i think gravitybox has options to choose which notifications to hide, i personally use LBE as a firewall so i use it to hide unwanted notifications

I just waiting for a future Development when I will be able to use my SD to install Apps or move data into it.
im sure this has been mentioned before, but im seeing it popup all over 4.4.2 rom treads. so, here's how to stop your nexus 5 continuously downloading the 4.4.3 update...
root is required you need a app manager with root permissions, I use rom tool box. in its app manager, select google services, then select advanced freeze and look for anything that is labeled 'update service' or similar, and freeze it! this will stop your phone downloading the update...

Well, if you have a custom recovery just take the update... It will fail. And that will be the end of that.... No mo update notices or downloads.
you can. but this is more for people getting hassled by the constant google notifications when the update doesn't download properly...

Does that eliminate notifications for all installed apps?
Hello all,
I'm having a bit of an issue where I can't download or update anything from play store or anywhere else really. Things start downloading and then when they near completion and get to about 98%, they get stuck there and eventually give an error that they cant download. It's only happening on my new Lollipop install. I flashed the 23.1.A.0.726 ftf file on an unlocked bootloader and i am running it on Androplus advanced stock kernel v2.
I've not has this issue on a similar version of kitkat that I currently have a back up of on the same phone. \I'm just bouncing between the two when i get some time to try and fault find the lollipop version. Obviously I want to move to the lollipop version permanently but i will only do that when I've sorted out this issue.
I cant seem to find anyone having the same issue. I've tried the following methods but they didn't work....
First.
Quick toggle pull down
Settings
Apps
Swipe left to the "all" catagory
Scroll down till you find "Google Play Store"
Force stop
Clear data
Now try the play store
If that doesn't work
Try
Quick Toggle pull down
Settings
Scroll down to accounts
Tap Google
Tap your account
Tap the settings menu (three dots in the upper right)
Remove Account
Back out to the settings screen
Add Account
Google
Sign in with your Google account
Does anyone have any other possible solutions to this or know what the hell maybe going on?
Thank you!!
Have you removed/disabled/freezed any apps?

Thanks for the suggestions. I had a look in system apps and both of these are there and unfrozen.
I'm actually trying to run LP 5.0.2: Massive DEBLOATING/23.1.A.0.726 custom FW for Z3C -all working (xposed etc) by moly82. I've tried a full wipe and install via recovery and still i cant get any apps to actually fully download and install. They all get to 99%and then never install for some weird reason.
did you finally solved somehow your problem?
try to flash the latest ROM from moly82 (v4): http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/wip-debloat-lp-690-correct-functioning-t3076161
I bought this for my mom and I was wondering if the tablet did regular updates, would it lose google play? What would an OTA take out other than root?
I'm currently on 5.1.1(got mine the day the update was released and updated without knowing) and I was able to install google play and services and haven't had any problems with either. As far as OTA updates, I doubt it will prevent it from working but can't say for sure because we don't know what Amazon will do.

Others have mentioned that the Amazon updates are full images, so I would speculate that if you had root and installed to system it would probably be wiped out. If you used the script, it just installs like a regular app and should be retained through an OTA like all the other apps. That's not to say that an OS change couldn't cause the frameworks or app to crash\stop functioning.
Didn't some others say they couldn't install Play store completely on 5.1.1 ?

The current update may not break google play but at any time in the future a update may come out that does indeed break it. Why risk it? Just disable OTA.
It seems a bunch of people got screwed because they failed to kill OTA & got hit by 5.1.1. It's just foolish to leave OTA enabled. You can always apply a new update manually or even temporarily re-enable OTA if a new update proves safe & you want it.

The Google Play script from 5.0.1 works just the same in 5.1.1 without issue.
The last time we got an update I had to say remind me later multiple times...eventually I went to sleep just to wake up and find out my phone was updated without my permission.
Is there a way to stop the software update on a stock device?

You can disable it with BK disabler.
Have you tried This? What services would I need to disable?

Using it now.
Just go to the system tab and disable the blue coloured software update with BK disabler. Done.
Can't find a link to the app.
Is there a way to manually do it through settings?

Yeah me neither lol. Just disable options through settings -> software update. It might still eventually push updates after a while though. Long-term you can disable Software update with Titanium Backup if rooted, or else use BK Package Disabler as described earlier.
what if you enable them back but when checking for a software update it just says "up to date", i am running the Nov 1st security patch, have had updates disabled since i use Sub overlays and have a custom ui, just tonight i went and u installed everything bcuz i heard there was a security patch out that was needed n order to get Oreo later this month..i know for a fact my phone isnt up to date.
anyone know what is going on??
my provider is AT&T, any help would b appreciated.
btw..i am NOT rooted or running any custom roms.
Just use bk disabler, disable everything related to software updates, this prevents even the forced updates that sometimes samsung or carriers push, when you re enable all, if there is some update, yo will be able to install it
yeah, using the app is no problem..it's when i enable the updates again thru BK my phone is saying its up to date and i know for a fact it is like 4 security patches behind..i have no idea how to fix it.
i enabled all apps including the update ones, uninstalled BK also.
