[Q] htc first 3G not working - HTC First

H!, I have a HTC First AT&T factory unlocked, bought from US. I'm in Bangalore, India now and the phone worked great for the first month. lately it does not work for call, sms, data when in "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto" mode (the signal bars just disappear and the phone goes out of reach). It works if i change network type to "GSM only" (in this setting i get call, sms and Edge). And the network type does not have the option "GSM/WCDMA auto". I tried all other options in the network type selection and it works ONLY in "GSM only" mode. Please help me solve this issue. In any of the case above, WiFi works fine.
NOTE: The phone is S-off and locked (can be unlocked easily), in an attempt to solve the same issue.

Buddy, similar situation like u. from bhubaneshwar , i ordered from us ebay.com. every time i insert reliance sim it shows me airtel sim and before doing custom rom i cant connect even mobile data. now i am on jmzbestsense all working good excep wifi and blutooth. i will fix it soon.but after custom rom also it showing airtel instead of reliance but all good. my phone's network vanishes at some time interval for 5 or 6 seconds , does your too.

GSM mode is a sim card. WCDMA is the type of network that a carrier like Sprint or Verizon uses here in the US. I don't believe the First supports WCDMA technology.
Sent from my HTC first using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Hmmm. WCDMA is an integrated data technology that works with GSM with part of the technology borrowed from CDMA. So most of the smart phones with 3G data capability will have GSM/WCDMA auto selection. Here the WCDMA is for either HSDPA or HSDPA+. If a phone is capable of LTE, then the options will be GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto selection. Well this selection is where I think my phone is goofed up. I vaguely remember playing with the data settings through "Battery Doctor" app just before it went for a toss.
@anilhotblood, yes if I select the "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto" option my signal bars vanish but not for few seconds, it vanishes once and for all . as of now I'm using it with GSM only option with EDGE only (very slow data) .

Can't you select GSM/WCDMA auto?
Or the equivalent is WCDMA preferred.

"GSM/WCDMA Auto" option is not listed in this phone.

flash the phone with RUU files to original factory
this guide is in spanish, but is very complete to flash RUU
http:/ /www. htcmania. com/ showthread. php?t=548748
here the files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314859
not try to flash the file name RUU
you need to flash, extract the rom from .exe file that is the trick!
works for me and save my phone! :good:
I hope you fix your phone!

[Q] Nexus One not working with the Bell Mobility network either voice or data?

I just received my Nexus One which I ordered through the Google Developer program (Brightstarcorp) and I'm not able to get it working with the Bell Mobility network for either voice or data
I have a signal bars on my N1 with a Bell Mobility SIM card but it dosen’t works.
When I slide down the notification bar it say "Bell" and try this to get it working.
I have tried all solutions and have the recommended settings on the phone (also running Froyo 2.2.1-Build number : FRG83).
- I tried my SIM to another Bell phone and it works.
- I tried another Bell SIM in my N1 and it did not work.
- I'm using an active data plan card not a prepaid card.
But it works with Rogers or Fido
I tried the following :
1.Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators: after about 1 minute I see network the currently available Bell
I click on Bell and see a signal not working.
2. Go to the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* this bring a hidden menu
3. tap on "Phone Information" It list the current network as Bell and also showing the IMEI and the Phone number. The IMEI and phone number are correct.
4. Hit the menu button and press "Select radio band" and click on "Automatic" .
5. Still not working I make sure radio band is set to "Automatic" then go back to the previous screen and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click under "set preferred network type" and choose through until I find one that works 1. WCDMA preffered or WCDMA only or GSM auto (PRL) it takes a few seconds from the time I click until the settings take place, just watch the signal bar at the top of the screen until it changes. Even try the "unknown" network type at the bottom of the list if the others don't work.
All the above fails.
For those of you out there who have successfully activated the Nexus One on the Bell network could you let me know which version of the phone you have.
Thanks for your suggestions.
well i am sorry to say but i dont think that the phone will work with Bell. the dev phones as far as i know are all AWS. so the only way it is going to work is if you get a rogers sim and use it on edge or a wind/moblicity sim and you can use 3G. bell does not have an edge network to back up on.
That's true. Bell/Telus has only the 3g network. The developer phone will not work. It will use edge/2g on Rogers/Fido. And will be fully supported on Wind or Mobilicity.
Nexus One with a Bell Mobility it dosen’t works!!
About Videotron?
Thanks

[Q] Mobile Network Type: UNKNOWN:0

I got a problem with my data connection.
I got on another city last day with 3G connection, and it started to get weird, changing from 2G to 3G constantly, very unstable, then after some time, the icon "E" or "H" disappeared.
I checked the Mobile Network Type under Phone Status, and noticed that is UNKNOWN:0.
Services, IMEI, and other related stuff is OK.
Any thoughts about that?
Try to enable Airplane mode and then disable to reconnect to the mobile network.
I did the Airplane mode plenty of times.
Plus, I wiped all data and cache.
Did a Factory Reset
Played a bit on *#*#4636#*#* secret menu...
What is weird is that my mom phone's (same model) got the same issue.

I have had this problem and searched everywhere. I finally found how to fix. Hope it works for you. Someone posted somewhere that SELinux was set to "Enforcing". YOu have to change it to "Permissive". Once I did that my network issue was fixed. You can download a Lunix Modifier from GPlay Store.
Go to your settings and the "About device" section and confirm whether or not your "SE for Android status" is set to "Enforcing".
My phone also same issue can you help me. I chenge several times secret menu network.

This happened to me a few months ago. The phone is definitely capable and you will get LTE signals on the $60/month GoPhone plan.
1. First of all, call GoPhone customer support (611 from the phone) and confirm that they have your HTC One whitelisted for LTE. They're going to double check with you your phone's IMEI number (they can already see it, but will ask you for it anyway), and then confirmed that the phone is allowed to get LTE signals. They're also going to double check your APN setting and provide you with the appropriate entries for AT&T.
2. Reboot and see if you now get LTE signals. If you still don't get it, check whether your mobile network settings is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto instead of GSM/WCDMA Auto or WCDMA Preferred (or maybe something else). If you don't see any LTE option, dial *#*#4636#*#* from your dialer, and in the first drop down box choose 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto' or anything with LTE just to make sure you can catch LTE signals at all. If you were able to find and switch to the setting you want, exit out, and go back to that menu, double checking if the setting sticks. If it does, reboot and try again.
3. Most people will get LTE signals after #1 above, while some were only able to get it after #2. However if you are unlucky like me, the LTE setting does not show up in mobile network and no matter what I do in the hidden menu, the setting won't stick (it's stuck on GSM/WCDMA Auto). I actually tried flashing a different radio at this point (a newer AT&T radio), but still... no LTE for me. What solved this finally for me is that I flashed a custom ROM (in my case it was ARHD 12.2). This enabled me to choose GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto under mobile network settings, and after that I was able to get LTE. It was great! :good:
Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

GSM Unlocked but no signal

Hey guys, I unlocked my Sprint HTC one with the Sim Unlocker app and followed directions as instructed but for some reason I cant get it to pick up service. I tried switching it to every radio combination (WCDMA, GSM- only etc) but no luck. Im running Rage's ROM and Im everything But S-off. I even flashed the initial radio to see if that it but to no avail, Im tring to using it on the ATT network.
Any input?
If there anyway that I can manually get the dialer to ask me for the network unlick code ? I have My SPC and Unlock code but I still havent input them into the device
I am having the same problem too. I have successfully sim unlocked my Sprint HTC One, dialed *#*#4636#*#* and changed the connection to GSM mode (only & perf). When I tried to go to tab "Available GSM networks", both option "Search networks" and "Select automatically" are grayed out. I was able to select ATT in the "Access point names" but the phone still won't connect to the network.
Anybody could shine any light on this problem?

Ok, here is what I did. First, do the #*#*4636*#*# and change to WCDMA PREFERRED mode, I know it sounds off, but do it. Next go to mobile network settings and change it to gsm mode. Reboot. Once rebooted go back to mobile network settings and go to Availavle GSM networks. and select the one you want, I use T-mobile. You MIGHT have to reboot again, sometimes I do, sometimes I dont.

Enabling 3G (UMTS) in all the countries

I thought of adding this thread since, there are many people struggling to get 3G in countries other than US when they are using SIM unlocked Sprint One M8. Instead of answering many PMs I thought it is a good idea to share here.
100% working - Permanent
Using this method I unlocked 3G on couple of devices successfully and getting a speed of around 10.5MB/s (using speedtest.net-don't try to check the speed many times as the website absorbs most of the data while performing the test when speed is high-I am losing around 50MB per test)

Procedure:
1. Unlock the GSM network using the SIM unlock method as in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718150.
2. Turn CDMA network on using the network app from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network. You may change the network type by using default network preference (if it is not greyed out) or use the code *#*#4636#*#*. For me the app works quick
3. Download MSL Reader from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.esccode.msl. And note down the MSL and save it as you may need in the future as well. Make sure you are on CDMA network to make this app work
4. Install QPST Configuration tool in your computer and make sure you have all the HTC drivers installed.
5. in the dialpad dial ##3424#. Enable Diag Mode in your phone (there will be a popup when you dial this number)
6. After enabling the Diag mode connect the phone to your computer via USB
7. Now open the QPST software in your computer. In the port tab make sure you can see your connected phone
8. From start client menu select choose service programming then click ok. Click on Read from phone
9. during this step the tool will ask for SPC, enter MSL obtained from MSL reader
10. On system tab (you may have to scroll right side) In the roaming preference choose automatic
11. On UMTS System tab :
A. Preferred service domain - Any, Pref Aquisition order-Automatic, Preferred network selection mode-Automatic
B. Under Preferred band table below select the checkbox Any BC (this selects all the bands)
12. Now click on write to phone tab, and now your mobile will reboot
13. dial ##3424# and disable diag mode. Using network app select WCDMA only to check whether you are getting 3G signal or not. Select GSM Prl mode which is pretty consistent and gives you stable 3G signal.
14. I suggest you all to try Bad Boyz Sprint ONE M8 ROMz which is stable+good battery life+good network coverage. Consider donating for that ROM developer @O.M.J.

That error is not a problem. Though you get the error it is written to the phone. Just check if you get 3G signal by selecting network mode to wcdma only. If you get the signal it's 3G enabled. You might not be getting edge because it messes up the apn setting.
In apn settings from menu select restore to default and select the right apn

So, any news? Is it worth the shot?
How about 4G ?
I doesnt Work how can I undo this?
Just simple , IT IS NOT WORKING METHOD , JUST FLASH NEW FIRMWARE
Well, its working method if you follow the instructions clearly. It will unlock different 3G bands, but in your location if there is no 3G signal it won't bring the signal. It worked for me and for few others too. The whole purpose of QPST s/w is to help with this. If you failed in the first attempt try again.!!
when i try to select to select a radio band it only let me choose USA Band, and only give me USA Band, Cellular (800 Mhz), PCS (1900 Mhz) and Secondary 800 Mhz band, what should I do?

Have you unlocked your GSM network to other sims yet? You need to follow SIM unlock method first and later you need to run this. When in QPST select all bands (last option) in the UMTS tab, that should enable all the bands
