I've used TowelRoot (awesome) and I'm trying to get the Galaxy S5 MMS apk to run on my AT&T Note 3.
I pushed the apk into the appropriate location with Root Explorer. Everything loads up, but I'm getting force closes.
Can anyone help me?

Did you try clearing the cache and data in the application manager? settings>more>application manager> all>messages?

delete it using Root Explorer. its in /system/app/. you can probably delete it with Titanium Backup too. Astro doesnt have root permissions.

Latest gmail 2.3.2 apk
Just place onto your sdcard and then install.
Works fine on a Samsung Galaxy S i9000
Yes. it is very simple. And I find this always works:
Install the new version, if it fails, reboot the phone or restart the Java VM. Do the install again. Done.
I have the same problem with the last apk of Gmail and with Launcher Pro Plus.
I have solved both in the same way, deleting the original with SUBFS or another root explorer.
i have the same problem.
then,i take a gmail APP form CM 6.1 to install...
i'll done~

guess this is still for 2.2 only? i've seen various threads on other forums claiming there's a 2.1 version goin around and im not sure if it's modded or not
So, first post here because I can't seem to find the solution (as I normally can)... but, I was using the CM App installer that allows you to install some CM apps on any ROM, and it crashed in process and my messaging app was deleted. I use Sliding Messenger, but it won't send MMS now. How can I get the stock app back?

Go to the development tread and there are system dumps for the different carriers. Download the Mms.apk and the Mms.odex
Push them into the system/app folder
Sent from my XT1058 using xda app-developers app
I already got the system dump, but I don't know how to "push" it through. I assume it's with adb but I've never had to go that route. If someone could easily direct me the process for that, it would be great! (I will still be searching on my own too)

I used root explorer but I'm rooted.

I read up on it last night and that's how I attempted it. I was successful at pushing the app into system/app and then install it, but it would just force close immediately after opening. I'll keep digging to see what else I can do

change the write permission using root explorer or es file explorer. click on it or long press and go to more in es file explorer. then click on properties.. change it to -rw -r -r like the rest of the system apk and odex files. This should fix your problem.

I just tried that, got the .apk from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690997 it installs fine, but the app FC's all over the place and uninstalls itself after reboot. The thread says to move it to system/app or priv-app, but we can't do that because there is no root yet for NC2

I was thinking, its definitely going to be tough to get it into /system/app without mounting it RW (root necessary). This is just a thought, would an update.zip containing the apk be able to be flashed in the stock recovery?

Can you do that without being rooted??
*(And more importantly), what happens if that goes wrong?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
I think stock recovery has an option to flash an "update.zip". What happens if it goes wrong? I have no idea. I've never had to install a system app without root, I'm just trying to think of something that might work. I mean root browsers and adb are ruled out. Other than flashing, I don't know of many other ways to get an app in there. >.<

Curious if anyone has tried to use the memory fix posted here for the ATT version of the galaxy s6 edge. I noticed that my build.prop doesn't have the lines mentioned that I should remove.
I have the Sprint Edge variant and would be interested in knowing as well. I've been scouring the various forums but to no avail.
I have tried both versions of the fix and they worked fine. Don't download the kernel, just make the changes to build.prop and reboot.

Yes i did try it i used buildprop editor you can find the lines just change the values and just add those missing lines and values backup 1st your buildprop before doing it..its faster and smoother then much ram.

I can confirm that adding those buildprop lines to the bottom, and deleting the duplicates from above did not cause any issues. Not sure if it improved performance just yet, but hopeful.
I did it correctly, been doing this for years... Yet I bootlooped and had to Odin stock reset. Not sure what went wrong, followed directions to the T. On Att edge.
I didn't get the kernel btw. I'll try again this weekend after I make a backup.

Did you make sure the permissions of build.prop were at 0644 after editing? That could cause a bootloop if permissions aren't set correctly.
I did not. Thanks

Install es file explorer.. go to the tools section on the left and select root. Then, click on the actual bar that says root explorer, and under "mount r/w", make sure to select rw for both root and system. Then go to your edited build.prop under /system and select it. Go to properties, and select permissions. You want to make sure that all three options (owner, group, and other) have read priveleges and that only owner has wite priveleges.. That's equivalent to 0644.
I've done it, just noticing that when seeing a video for more of the screen on time it turn off the screen
