Downgrading your security version will brick your device, so I wouldent suggest it.
However, you can use AOSP 4.1.2 with it.

Then just don't flash the security component. Just do System and I think boot? I'd have to check mine, but I went from 4.4.2 to 4.1.2 and back to 4.4.2 again. It can be done if you are careful

The XT907 is surprisingly capable for its age.
Hoping that Verizon launches an LTE variant of the Moto G. It's a worthy successor to the RAZR M.
was this thread really necessary? the page u linked to links to a thread on xda in the razr m general section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783912
Unlocked it the first chance I got but for some reason the custom recovery won't work. However, if you guys got it working on your phones, mind if you can toss me the rope, so I can fix it.

I'm contemplating getting a Moto X on Verizon. I want root. Don't care about ROMs or anything just want to be able to do a couple things mainly. I've read some threads and what not and am a little confused about how easy it is to root the thing with the latest update. Is it possible or did they patch it up? I'd be getting the phone from Verizon so I'm guessing it'd be up to date. Thanks in advance.

Even without root this phone is amazing! This is coming from someone who used to flash a new rom daily. Now like you, I still prefer root for certain apps but this phone is so good it would be just as enjoyable without root. You might get lucky and get one that's been in the cabinet for a couple of weeks then you could root it. If not I'd still get it. I would bet we will have a way to root the newer software before long anyway.

There is an alternative root method, it is not going to get released before 4.4 though... If it get released now, then the exploit will undoubtedly get patch with 4.4... So the creator is waiting for the big update to release, then release his root method.

A while back he said he had another way to root but would hold it back until 4.3+ update. That's cool he's pushing it out sooner... Hopefully the exploit doesn't get patched in the next update though, I understand the reason for waiting on these things, it's like playing chess.

I would be very careful of the Dev edition. With carriers you get good support and exchanges. With Moto, the support is horrible and no chance for an exchange.

there is an exploit for the comera ota update now. It is not that complicated if you toy with your phone and know how to use adb and run some simple commands. There is a video for it and another thread that gives you instructions for windows for those that really don't know how to run things in cmd prompt.
Short and simple. I want my Moto X rooted.
If I can keep my pictures through this process thats cool. I have folders and such set up that took me forever to do. Pictures are backed up so thats not really a problem. All my apps and music are replaceable.
If I have to downgrade to 4.2.2 I dont mind. I would probably end up staying there til Kitkat gets more app support.
Would I just need the 4.2.2 Camera OTA and use RSD lite to flash that?
I miss my S3..... ;(

I assume you have the international unlocked One, not any of the U.S. carrier branded Ones.
1) Go to htcdev.com, create an account. Choose the option to unlock the bootloader. You need the fastboot drivers. Easy to find
2) Once you're bootloader unlocked, flash TWRP recovery from this link:
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
3) Install SuperSU once u have TWRP(the app will be installed automatically). Run the app
4) You're rooted. Very naize
P.S. I would advise u to S-OFF your phone after rooting it, coz certain ROMs aint compatible with S-ON, ur default. So, before installing the 4.4.2 OTA, flash ARHD 31.6, run the rumrunner tool

Yeah, u need to use rumrunner tool, not the HTC dev unlock.
http://rumrunner.us/downloads-2/
Download for Verizon, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND PRE-REQUISITES CAREFULLY
And, btw, this is not the thread for the Verizon One. Hence, there are no ROMs which support the Verizon variant. Flashing a ROM from the development thread for HTC One WILL BRICK UR PHONE. Make sure u flash ROMs/MODs for the Verizon One from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one
FYI, if u want the most mods/roms, u should have bought the unlocked One

You can flash stock based ROMs (Eclipse, Krypton) with safestrap if you are rooted and have write protection disabled. But you will need to update the kernel and baseband to the 4.4.2 versions. See instructions on how to do that here: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/116025-romsafestrap-unlockedxt1060-stock-rooted-vzw-164552-kitkat-442/. You can also look in to unlocking your bootloader via the guy in China. That would allow you to flash AOSP based ROMs. See thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/china-middleman-t2751177

there might not be any other way; after all, 5.0 encrypts your entire phone, so one could assume the bootloader has to be locked for that to happen..

Just be sure to read the posts about s-health and private mode. If you can, don't use s-health until after you root and if you plan on using it, disable secure storage in wanam. Otherwise you're going to get some annoying lag.
Also if you're going to flash a custom ROM and want to use the fingerprint scanner, make sure you use the scanner on the stock ROM first. Folks are having issues on custom ROMs if they've never used the scanner beforehand.
