Now that we have root and are able to remove most traces of AT&T crap from this phone this is the only one left for me. Is this possible to remove yet with root access?
ROM Toolbox Pro does provide this as an option. I cannot say for sure that it will work/brick your phone. There are tutorials you can find on Google to create a qmg file and over write the existing one.
Use caution.
Let me know if you find something usable!

I have a tool that i wrote that will do exactly this and also enable any standard bootanimation check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53494610&postcount=1 remember it is beta and is being updated also make sure you download the patch file from the attachments its needed to make the bootanimation tweak work
I renamed the boot animation file by adding a ".bak" at the end of it. That took care of the boot animation, however, the sound remained. I disabled the boot sound with Wanam if I remember correctly. No problems so far.

Where's the animation file at?
/system/bin
The boot sound can be disabled in Wanam under the sound heading. Just double checked to be sure.

So I didn't really like the Verizon power off animation for PowerWashed (ED05) ROM, so I changed it to the full TV power off animation. I've always liked this one, so I figured there would have to be others as well. I posted the zipped folder that has all the necessary images for the full power off animation. I use Root Explorer, so for those who use that as well, here's the steps to make it work...
1) Extract the folder onto your computer, once you do, double-click the folder so you see another "shutdown" folder. Copy that folder and place it on your SD card.
2) Using Root Explorer, scroll down and find the system folder, click on that, then scroll down and click on the media folder.
3) Once you're in the media folder, scroll all the way down and click on the video folder.
4) Inside the video folder will be the shutdown folder, and from there I would either delete it, or copy it and paste it onto your SD card (Just in case you decide you want to go back to that power off animation) under a different folder name so it doesn't overwrite your existing shutdown folder.
5) Once you've taken care of the original shutdown folder, making sure there's nothing in system/media/video, go back to your shutdown folder (With the TV off animation) and simply move it to system/media/video.
6) You're done! Power off to test it out and make sure it worked.
*Note* For those who would like to delete the shutdown sound, simply go to system/audio/ui and delete the shutdown.ogg.
**Edit** I find the Nexus S Reloaded boot animation to fit perfectly with the power off animation, so for those who want the nice combination, feel free to flash it. Remember to wipe cache and delvik cache!
Very nice. I gave you a thanks. It works great.

I'm sorry but I don't know how to stop it from appearing on your gallery. It doesn't show up on mine, maybe try what trailblazer101 said. I'm really sorry about that.

odd in my telus sgh-t959d in astro file browser in the root video there is no folder and in media video nothing to??
were else can it be hidden?
If a connect it to the PC, i cannot see the system folder. (is there any trick I am not aware of?)
If i use a folder manager, i cannot put a ringtone in the system/media folder...its probably protected or so.
does it HAVE to be rooted or so?
thank you.
Root is required to make changes to /system

If you wanna put a ringtone in /system/media use root explorer. That's the easiest way for you, if you're advanced and wanna get familiar with adb, adb push it

THANK YOU.
I assumed that
but is the ROOT safe at this time? i have red a lot of issues after ROOTing...
Uhh... root is kinda never safe? Haha. Idk what you mean by that

getting root itself normally isnt a big issue.. normally people run in to more trouble when they have attempted flashes that go awry.
I used to flash my HTC Touch Pro 2 with a CUSTOM Rom almost every month... for more than 1 year..and no issues there...
but the number of topics with problems after booting the D3...made me think again when modding this phone...
With just a root, you should be ok. I feel that just rooting does very little, and as said before, the issues only arise when we try to take advantage of what root enables us to do...freezing, modding, flashing, etc.
i just want to put a custom ringtone (mp3 file) in the ringtones folders.
the ringtones from this phone..are really stupid.
any ideas which does not include root?
Well I use the MIUI music app and when it asks me to choose a ringtone I just chooose it through that

Use Ringdroid, it's free in market. Ringdroid allows you to crop and edit audio files, turn them in to ringtones and set them as default.
worked perfectly with ringdroid
if i unistall the application, the ringtone will remain?
use root explorer. Thats how i get to it.

nope. if i try to move with root explorer a file in system folder, it says i can not do that. probably because the phone is not rooted.

Exactly. Do not be afraid to root it, you can unroot it whenever you like.

Root explorer isn't nedded anymore. ES file explorer can browse as root, and it's free.
How can I change them ?? I tried replacing them with ones I wanted using root explorer, I changed the permissions and rebooted but no audio sounds came from the phone... how can I do this!?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
Try
Im assuming you mean the sounds for notifications. You will need to copy the files into "system/media/audio/notifications" to get it to work. However, it might be different using different updates, roms, etc. You also may need to be rooted... You used root explorer so I am assuming you are already.
Yes I am rooted, I specifically want the UI sounds.. but I tried replacing system/media /audio /UI with the UI sounds I wanted, changed permissions and rebooted but no UI sound came after that

Rooted
1. I renamed, deleted, made it silent .... /system/resource/HtC_Sense5_Boot.mp3
and it gets replaced with original upon reboot.
2. I changed the default.xml line that calls out that file
and it also gets replaced on bootup
what next ?

If it helps, if your phone is in silent before the reboot, it wont start the boot sound.
hope this gives you some direction to work on
You need to flash the module that disables the system protection (can be found in the One Android Development forum)

Hi guys, I'm scratching my head as to why I can't add build.prop values in the build.prop even though I am rooted. I'm using Root Explorer and every time I try to push the edited build.prop in the /system/ directory, it doesn't overwrite the original. I used the RockMyMoto to root. Is there something I should do to fix this or is this somehow locked by Motorola?
Make sure you have the system set for read/write not read only. When you're in root explorer there should be a tab at the top of the page with the option for r/w or r/o.

Thanks. That worked but now it won't stick on boot. It reverts back to default build.prop. Permissions were set correctly. I'm lost lol
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
To get it to stick on boot, you have to boot into the write protect disabled mode. To do this, boot into bootloader, then select recovery. It will boot Android, but this time with write protect disabled. Make your changes, then reboot as normal.
