[Q] How to get the native tether WiFi hotspot on rooted S5? - Galaxy S 5 General

Now our ATT S5 can be easily rooted (see post below), how can we get the native tether/hotspot? Obviously, AT&T put a check on top of the native tether to squeeze $$ from us.

tethering table to existing wifi-hotspot connection

I have a Captivate and I'm considering gretting a tablet... The Cappy is at&t and as free wifi-hotspot service. The Tablet I want to get is wifi-only...
I know I can connect to the wifi-hotspot with my cappy.. Can I tether the tablet to the cappy via bluetooth or some other means so I can use the at&t wifi-hotspot that I already pay for with the cappy?
Tether captivate connect to wifi hotspot

of course, why can't you? if you pay for tethering - tether, but the client will be not laptop but tablet. there is no difference for AT&T AFAIK. only lower data usage + higher battery, cos you might wanna to have internet on tablet al time?

You missed OP's point entirely. For AT&T smartphone with paid data plans, you can use AT&T wi-fi hot spot for free (otherwise, you need to pay for it). In order to do that AT&T adds its own special software to its Smartphone so that it will auto-authentiate with the hot-spot and use it for free.
So to answer OP's question, no you will not be able to use your tab on hot-spot for free. Only the AT&T smartphone are allowed. And no, Cappy does not have bluetooth tethering capability.
Besides, the only place I saw AT&T hot spot is McDonalds. If you bought anything in McDonalds, you can already use the hot spot for free (just ask them). So, I don't see this helps much.
Cappy does have wi-fi hot spot feature built-in (Froyo or later) so that you can share the cell data connection with your tab. But it requires you to subscribe to tethering plan. If you already rooted your phone, you can easily remove that restiction.

[Q] Wifi Tether

Anyone found a workaround to get wi-fi tethering without paying AT&T more to use the data plan I have already paid for?
I've tried all the apps I was able to find including the TrevE one. I'm unlocked and rooted and all that good stuff.
AT&T HTC ONE

I am not great guru on these phones (or any for that matter). I have similar situation. Had an Evo4G that would wifi tether after root. This phone (Desire 510) seems to have additional guards. After installing the 3.0.3 of the wifi-tether apk there is a message that appears in the log indicating the phone takes control of the wireless ethernet interface after tethering has started. This kills the wifi tether.
I haven't identified what process is block the wifi tether but there is one called tetherguard. Mine is a Sprint phone so tether is available at a fee. The phone must be capable.

T-Mobile/MetroPCS Tethering

T-Mobile/MetroPCS has really cracked down on tethering lately. Does the Nexus 6 have any issues wifi tethering on T-Mobile/MetroPCS?
no issues, i tether fine in tmobile. btw, for the regular plans, they include tether. for a completely unlimited high speed data, they let you tether 5gb. for a limited plan, they allow unlimited tether. now you can opt to dive deeper into it, by rooting your device and enabling a hack that will let you tether unlimitedly, without your provider seeing.
I'm hearing that it's not possible for the N6 to tether on Metro w/o root.
As far as I know you DO need root to hide your tethering
Can anyone link me to the root method of tethering?
Yes, that's been the case. But even now that they allow tethering, everything I've seen indicates that the Nexus 6 can't tether without root on Metro.

Tether with AT&T (Even if Paid)

Hey guys,
Is it possible to enable tethering without root? When I use the native tethering it just pops up a message that says to go to att.com/mywireless (but there are no options to turn it on there)?
Thanks guys, I need this functionality for work.
I'm on the 15 gig shared data plan and my tethering in available with out root I used to need root but when I changed to this plan it was no longer needed not sure if that was what made it available on my phone or something else. I will check the other phones on the plan and see if they also have tether available and let you know.

Hey, I have the unlimited data plan that comes bundled with direct tv, which I called and does not support tethering. they said I'd have to change to a non-unlimited plan that supports tethering, or get another device that has a data plan that has tethering, but the cheapest plan is 40 dollars a month for 2 gb of data. Does anyone know a way to root the phone (can send me a link) so that I can keep my unlimited plan and still tether? Or know some other option that allows me to keep my unlimited plan and still tether? Thanks!
Not sure of the status of them, but try out PdaNet and FoxFi ... The latter has been removed from the play store by sprint and at&t, but you can find the url in the FoxFi Addon description.
[edit]
Confirmed, pdanet is still a thing. One of the few apps I truly found worth what I paid for it.
Links and details
Tethering is part of the mobile share data plan.

This app works perfectly!! Thank you, NOTHING else works with AT&T's new unlimited plan except for this.
I can confirm Foxfi/PdaNet works via usb, without root. Install Foxfi (paid full version) on your phone and have PDAnet on your pc and attach via usb.

Hi
I am new and I have a question and a answer which probably is not the one you are looking for but you have to start some where to learn like you and me. My question is what is tethering without root. As for tethering I go to settings- connections- mobile hot spot and tethering and turn it on. Hope you don't mind a first day rookie bothering you and hope we can become friends here. Take care.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but rooting your phone will enable full tethering on this new unlimited data deal but it can be detected by att and in some cases att will automatically add a tethering fee to your bill if detected. However it's extremely hard to detect Android phones (and more expensive) so generally att pursues this more on Apple platforms. Just wanted to confirm my own understanding before I switch plans. If true, it's a win win for this community.

no root yet for the s6 active. but anyone interested in tethering i found a work around. dowload klink tether from playstore to run your laptop no root required. the app has simple intructions to get you going. once you have that all done now you can download a hotspot program on your laptop. i use connectify turns it into a hotsot so you will actualy be connecting to the laptop wich is running from your phone works fine. now you have free wireless tether. if anyone noes a easier tether option i would like to no foxfi didnt work for me as it did on other devices im currently running marshmellow on the s6 active
