Over clock Moto X - Moto X Q&A

I looked around on Google a bit to see if there was a way to overclock my Moto X. Couldn't find anything and wanted to know if any of you knew anything.
Thanks

Faux Kernel. Faux has setup a kernel (Ultimate) to overclock your Moto to 1.9 ghz. However, I personally don't see a gain with the overclock so I stuck to stock clock speeds.

Yes i agree now that i almost just bricked my Moto trying to OC it without a custom recovery (Flash Gordon). Phone wouldn't install apps then wouldn't boot. Don't recommend it...

What is "almost bricked"? Why don't you just say that you were scared and not confident enough to OC. Bricking a device is not that easy!
I am using Faux's kernel with 1.9 GHz with Intelliactive, the phone is just as stable as it was on default clock rate and there is a definite improvement, while opening apps, scrolling through the long list of Tweetcaster.

Setcpu kernel?

The ones from Fresh Toast and Darchdroid are the only ones with setcpu. Or, you could compile his source. The best bet is to just run Fresh Toast.

Sry dude forgot about the q&a
I would say just run Fresh Toast 2.1 Final.. Its amazingly fast.
Also, I recommend overclock widget instead.. Flipz noticed that SetCPU was unnecessarily taking up over 10% of your CPU usage constantly, which doesn't sound like much, but it can add up quickly.

Just rip the boot.img from Fresh 2.1OC, then implement it into regaws build.
It's actually a lot easier than it sounds.

kernel and rom pairing question

im on di11igafs 5.2 newest rom with Firebirds newest kernel flashed. I want to switch to SetrioNs kernel here for some good overclocking. I am unsure which to use and what the difference between his normal and XT versions are. i tried flashing the newest 1.6ghz XT SetrioNs but it freaked out my phone even in recovery menu after 20 seconds it would freeze up after about 20 seconds. Do i need to disable the lagfix in the recovery menu and or something else first? any help would be greatly appreciated . Thanks
Bryan
Your phone is not going to do 1600 no matter how hard you try.

Thats not what I asked about nor did I try to set it at 1.6 ghz. The phone wouldnt even boot long enough for me to change the voltage control settings. So I suppose i should rephrase my question so I dont get another answer like this one. I would like to use SetrioNs kernel, im using Firebirds kernel right now. Are there any steps i need to take in order to properly flash setrions kernel so that i dont have the problems I had previously?

Party pooper.
I know right? Woot woot.
Ok, sorry man. Honestly I would suggest downloading the Paragon rom and yanking the kernel out of that. It is much more up to date and allows oc.as high as 1.6. I have used that one without issue. Haven't tried setirons in quite a while so I don't know what may be going on.
Easiest way is to just put the rom zip in your sd card then use sgs kernel flashed app and select the rom zip. It will extract the kernel and flash it for you. Might want to disable lagfix first as sometimes problems occur when jumping back and forth between firebird and others.
Use voltage control 3.0 to control that kernel as well.

Ah! Thank You Thats exactly what i was looking for. I only have one question left. If i pull the kernel out of the rom will it be in .tar form? Thanks again
The kernel will be zimage. You can just copy that file straight to your sd card and the kernel flasher app will work with that as well.
Also it would seem that paragon is now using speedmods kernel. would you happen to be able upload the kernel you are using for me?
Give me a few.. have to get off the couch

[Q] Droid Overclock Kernels

Okay so I have been looking EVERYWHERE for kernels to overclock my OG Droid... Cant find any, and the old ones that I found would not flash in CWM, it kept saying "Cannot open file (bad)" Any ideas or any links to OC kernels would be nice.
Slayher makes good kernels. http://android.antbox.org/slayher/kernels
Also check http://peteralfonso.com as he's done some Droid kernel work as well.

Yeah CorCor hasn't released a new kernal in a while, he was supposed to be making one for DC but I don't think it was ever finished, or if we are ever going to get it. and you should play around with different voltages all Droid's react differently. Mine can handle ULV but your's may not be able too, start with SV and then work your way down to LV and see how it works

I flashed an 1100 mhz LV kernel once and it booted up but once SetCPU profiles started, it rebooted. Is this bad?
try lowering the speed if it's above 800mhz you might have it clocked too high

Kernel without Logo2Wake and Logo2Menu

Hi,
so I'm currently running the Lunar-Kernel because I want to have more clockspeed-cteps, lower minimum clockspeed and voltage-controls so that I can undervolt the CPU slightly which saves a lot of battery.
I just realized that it has this stupid Logo2Wake and Logo2Menu-Feature that I don't need and now I want to know how I can disable those or if there is any kernel that supports those voltage and clockspeed-settings but doesn't have these Logo-Features.
Thanks for your time and help in advance!
Stupid?!

Ok so because you don't need them, doesn't mean these are stupid features. Devs are working hard to bring those features users asked for. What is stupid imo is someone not searching the forum for something evident. maybe you should read those threads
Not a single kernel there that does what I describe above, except this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301543
But the download isn't available anymore.

You ca n undervolt and overclock/underclock with elementalx
you can chose what features you want when installing in aroma so you won't be stuck with logo2wake or logo2menu if you don't want them

TeaMSeven kernel for CM11. Why would you not want logo to menu? It is so handy but even if it was there you wouldn't have to ever touch it. Anyway, aroma lets you choose whether to install or not. Btw, my first post after I got my One was asking for a kernel for CM that DID have that feature and I got my a** busted!!

This kernel doesn't have AROMA-Options for all the features :/
I don't need the features and at first I didn't know that they were there, was really confused when the phone randomly woke up or a random menu popped up.

what about it? what's your real question? stock is however stock is set up, custom kernels change the CPU setup, in many differing ways. there is no one correct answer as there are many different custom kernels and setups.

if you have issues with the stock kernel, yes. if you want root, yes. should you learn how to set up your cpu properly before changing kernels? yes. learn about the governor/scheduler, how changing them changes your cpu performance. besides that, some kernels add a few minor features as well.
Rooted but as close to stock as possible. I've always had issues with heavily tweaked custom kernels.
They have their place, but not if you wan't a solid rooted daily driver IMHO.

im a well known custom kernel user, and yet I NEVER use any custom kernel as they are set up by the developer. I ALWAYS use my own CPU setups, always. as far as I can tell, my setup is as solid for me as any stock kernel that google provides. but not only solid, my phones performance is kicked up a notch as well as its battery life. and my devices turn out much more responsive too.
Wow you must be very skilled and talented!
Sometimes messing with stuff like that can create bootloops and random freezes.
I also love how you have contributed to this thread by saying how you ALWAYS use your own CPU setups.
It was very informational an helpful.
Thanks!

and that's why its very important to know about governors and schedulers.
here's one of my examples.. for a long time, I was the only one using all 4 cores on , no hotplugging. and many people laughed at me about it, claiming my battery life must suck. but, for android 5.1 google changed the CPU settings for the nexus 6. and many people really noticed about how reactive the n6 became. what did google change? they set the cpu to be always on, no hotplugging
BTW, I use the ondemand governor with the deadline scheduler. with the sampling rate for ondemand set at 15000 and the sampling rate at 98.
