sweet, yeah... I do bass and guitar, whats the project?
Here is the copypasta I have been sending out to musicians:
Hello, I am a songwriter, guitarist, and pianist currently working on making music with a new band. However, I have also been working on a solo album that veers away from the typical sound I play with my live band. I have been drawing inspiration from many artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Gaby Moreno, Nerves Junior, to name a few and I am taking this entire project in an unorthodox approach.
In terms of sound, I am experimenting with keyboards, filters, lo-fi production sounds in a higher quality production environment. Techniques such as recording parts to media such as cassette tapes and ripping audio source to a computer are being used (To give you an idea). Another part of the project is creating tracks with other artists contributing their personal feelings to song lyrics that I write, broadening the emotions provoked by tracks and offering opportunities to artists and even a few close friends that have dabbled in music.
A variety of effects, mixing techniques, and instruments will be used in production and I am mixing it all from my home studio by collecting pieces from other artists which leads to me emailing you.
Essentially the basis for this record would be that I send out lyrics to various singers and musicians and allow them to interpret the song in anyway they choose, perhaps offering minor guidelines like tempo. The artist would take artistic freedom over what they have been presented with. You would be able to sing any way you wanted, in any mood. Just however you feel when you read the lyrics. The lyrics will also be sent to instrumentalists who will create backing tracks based on the emotions provoked by the song. Finally, I will add what I had written the song like, in my own style, and begin a mixing process that will combine elements from every single artist contacted. The process is experimental and I will roll with whatever I am presented.
You won't need to contribute too much if you don't want to. If you simply want to contribute vocals for one section of a song, it is fine. If you want to record the entire song, it too, is fine. At the end of the project, the album will be available for free via bandcamp with liner notes included that will provide listeners with ways to donate to everyone who contributed to the album.
I thank you for reading this if you have and if you have any other questions or if you would like to start right away, feel free to email me.
I'm sitting here at work listening to the Verdi Reqiem, mouthing the words and following my part (Alto I). We're performing it at the end of October...
I also play guitar and have started noodling around with an Alto Sax.

Smh to hip hop these days

I'm 18 so my peers are into it,so no where but here to express my opinion. It's sad ain't it? What happened to hip hop where it was poetry and had a meaning? Where every artist had a story? Now its blahblah...Gucci this....blahblah...polo this...blahblah....shoot ak's.....blahblah....sell dope....blahblah....smoke dope
Wtf?
Thank you for readin if you did lol.

I agree, the rap they play at my gym just sounds like a bunch of random cliches as long as the last word rhymes. Not really any flow at all, nor a subject/point of the song.
If you haven't noticed, that's most music nowadays. All of it is becoming gurgled trash coming out of a monkey's rear end. It's saddening really, the more advanced we get technologically the more simplistic, stupid, and easily amused we become.

very true. Used to us rap/hip hop fans had an argument: that the music (although vulgar) did not teach evil or stupidity. It was a story. Most artist talked about there hard times and how they over came there obstacles. These days artist make it sound cool to be stupid, cool to sell dope, cool to hurt others. It actually keeps younger people from moving forward in life because the artist doesent put a twist to it and tell there fans IT IS NOT COOL and they wanted to escape it. So they put there feelings into words. I wont lie, when partying I like to throw on some of the newer rap songs, but only the ones that talk about having a good time. The thing that irritates me most is the branding rappers do. Like bragging about there polo underwear,or there Gucci pants. So stupid and makes them look very ignorant.

I couldn't agree more. I generally don't like hip-hop, but that's because most of what I hear is commercial trash, as with most genres of music.
This, however, is fantastic...
as is this (not so much hip-hop, just rapping, but poetry nonetheless)...
That's because people are very object oriented, they only care to show off what they have. That is exactly why they sell out, make one catchy song, and fade into the closet with the rest of the unwanted throw out crappy artists. Btw, I'm 18 too so it's not like I'm not on the same boat as you. But the only difference is that I don't listen to rap. I just know EXACTLY what you're talking about.

Rite. Except for lil Wayne. He swears he has been a hard core gangster forever, and ran "the streets" and stuff, but he has been in a studio booth since age 9. Now he has moved towards what I just posted, bragging about brands or objects. It just sucks to see people like him being praised like a god, when people like tupac, pim c and many others just fade to a memory. And yeah being 18 its kind of hard to stay away from it all lol,its not just a trend, its damn near the only trend. I've loved rap since I was 5. My mom use to beat my ass for singing some of the songs I heard, but even though they were vulgar, they had a point and they were inspirational. Anyways,I could go on and on. Maybe more people like Lupe fiasco will come along and take over.....

Honestly, I don't like Lil Wayne, but..I don't listen to rap anywho. I do know what you mean though, my Sister listens to him and it's just the shame garbage trash that's making kids think that objects are the root of happiness. It's sickening how ignorant people have become and how the child, OUR future can't even read or write correctly in high school. I don't think it's all the music's fault though. Even the way children are being raised has changed. If a child had someone that they could look up to that wasn't an idiot then I'm sure they could at least have a little bit more of an influence to be different.
@Archer, definitely good stuff man. I really liked the second one.

Y'all should start listening to Chap Hop:
What if you listen to some real hip hop, like Lil Wayne?
I'm joking!

My friend and I recently started a music blog just as a hobby...we had been sending each other music back and forth all the time, so we just decided we'd put it on the web so we could share with our other friends.
My friend uploaded a playlist there the other day you should check out, mostly a mix of newer electronica/dub-step/etc. http://toastandjamz.com/playlist/new-tnj-playlists-up-in-your-grill-your-summer-cruise-electron/
But feel free to browse around and hopefully you'll find something you like. We try to update it daily if we can.
Oh, and I forgot. Try finding my YT page. I have a playlist for the songs I listen the most. There are lots of missing ones, but I got tired of adding more. Maybe next weekend I'll add more.
I think my page is: http://youtube.com/felimenta97
The playlist is called: Músicas. Just put it on random and forget everything Hope you enjoy

Dubstep DJ

In my free time when I'm not flashing phones, I spin Dubstep.
My mix: http://soundcloud.com/ogresmash/frostbite-mix-2012
There were a couple tracks in there that had a beat, so I wouldn't call it all dubstep.
I listen to oldschool dubstep, which is an actual form of music unlike the new wave of mindf*ck bullcrap.
The first track sounded like old chopped and screwed instrumental. Kinda dug it. Chilled out heavy bass. Nice.
* iTouched Epic
Thanks alot. My personal favorite track is at about 4:30. Some good ol' caspa.

Podcast recommendations?

So i'm fashionably late to the party again, but i'm really into podcasts now that i've started listening to them. They're ideal for me to keep away the boredom at work. I've paid for DoggCatcher and although i don't know how it compares to other Podcast apps, i like it.
Feeds i've added so far are:
Anandtech: The most well respected Tech site on the Internet, the Podcasts are awesome.
NPR Technology: Less Nerdy than AT but with good tech news and stories.
NPR Friday Night Science: Seems to be more a TED talks like format. Liking it so far.
New Scientist: Various news, articles etc. Used to subscribe to the magazine and my goto media for Science news.
PC Gamer (US): I hear it's the best Podcast in the PC gaming world. Love it so far. The guys crack me up sometimes.
XDA TV (Audio): Don't think i need to expand on this!
So, any of you guys listening to Podcasts? What software are you using and what Podcasts do you recommend?
Not a fan of podcast myself. The only one I listen to is 90 seconds on The Verge and other weekly shows by Verge.
Also 'The Tek' by razethew0rld is a good weekly shows if you are into technology.
