Hi,
I'm currently trying to use adb to push some data into my phone but i always get "error: closed". I'm using windows 7 x64 and im running it from cmd.
Almost everything i tried using adb (push, shell, remount) returns this. I've searched over the forums and tried "adb devices" as well to see if my phone is connected, but what is different from the others is i am getting
List of devices attached
XXXXXX host
instead of what most other people got
List of devices attached
XXXXXX device
Is this a problem? What am i missing? Thanks a lot for ur time in reading this
Try:
Code:
adb usb
then
Code:
adb devices
or
Code:
adb kill-server
then
Code:
adb start-server
then
Code:
adb devices

Thank you! Although after doing these commands it still returned error:closed it listed my device as being in sideload mode so all sideload commands worked after that including sideloading a rom .zip
Did you update the SDK Manager??? Try updating that, my ADB problem were gone after i updated them.....

This is actually the only place I've found that might have had a solution to my problem (different device: Nexus 7, Stock 4.3 JWR66Y, unrooted, I'm attempting to sideload the 4.4 update but continually get this error:closed message.

isnt "error closed" something to do with out of date adb?

Some people had solved the issue with the command:

and after a reboot of device.
But seems don't work for all.

I haven't tried rebooting the device seems to be the only thing I left out.
I was having the same problems. Couldn't sideload. When I would run "adb devices" , my device would be listed. If I ran "adb usb" I would get "error: closed" . The sideload command would just bring up a list of commands. This may help someone, I installed a new version of adb. Not sure if I can post links but the file name was adb-setup-1.1.exe. This installs the needed files, the installer didn't notify me where the files were installed but they installed right to my C:\ drive. This seemed to eliminate the problem for me. I did a lot of searching and couldn't find anyone with this specific issue, so if anyone finds themselves with this problem give this a try.
worked for me
i had the same problem
i coulnt send anyfile to my htc one but after updating plate-form tools and replacing the old adb and fastboot files with the new ones
i entered the commend adb sideload rom.zip and it started sending the rom

Perfect - worked for me - exact same issue - adb wasnt recognising my phone was in sideload and sideload command wouldnt work but push would - plus getting error closed message on adb usb command. Googled the above adb file, downloaded, 15 second install and now sideloading is working on my SG2 with CWM recovery 6.0.2.9 (kitkat). I was obviously using an outdated ADB driver (1.0.29).
Thanks a lot KoolAidBigMan !! Big up...
Jimbo
EDIT : Spoke too soon - now getting another error when trying to sideload.. will google it.. failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)'
EDIT : Sorted. Ended up getting round it by pushing the files instead - found instructions on Cyanogenmod forums. Thanks once again.

So it took me many times to get this to work correctly. Mostly because I was not reading the doc carefully enough. I was trying to run "revone -s 0" right away and was missing the "revone -P" step first. What I found was that it appears that if you run any revone command and it fails, your best bet is to reboot the phone to try again. I was able to finally get "revone -P" to work but only after rebooting the phone and running that as the first command. Note that I did not use su or anything else, I just ran "revone -P" in the adb shell. I was on a T-Mobile One which I successfully converted to GE. Hope this helps.
Code:
$ adb shell
[email protected]:/ $ cd /data/local/tmp
[email protected]:/data/local/tmp $ ./revone -P
revone v0.2.1
Gaining root access (thanks to Dan's motochopper)...Success.
revone successful - please reboot to continue.
First off, you can try this at your own risk. I did it last night and it worked. I was on the at&t update version 1.26.502.15 which generated the same error code. INeFFeCTiVE gets all the credit on this one for getting me S-OFF after the update. Basic idea was to put a nandroid on your phone of 2 versions ago (1.26.502.10) and then lock the bootloader and run the RUU of the version just before the one that broke the exploits (1.26.502.12). Then I was able to run the All In One toolkit and obtain S-OFF. I am not sure the same will work for you, but that was my solution. I know the people with hboot 1.54 have to wait, but mine was still on 1.44 and I was getting that error code. Here is the link to the thread I followed. Again, all credit to INeFFeCTiVE.

If you are on T-Mobile, you may have accidentally applied an OTA which leaves your HBOOT at 1.44 but patches the exploit revone and moonshine use to set S-OFF.
Again, ONLY on T-Mobile, it is possible to be on HBOOT 1.44 with a patched version that will NOT allow revone or moonshine to work. Hopefully they update these tools to get around this patch. They probably will, it's likely a short matter of time.
(If you suspect you're in this situation, don't even try to apply moonshine unless you know how to restore a stock boot image. Moonshine will quit after 10 tries with an error without restoring your boot!! Moonshine *does* back up your original boot in the folder it was run from, though).
There's a previous thread like this. Error code -6 is a known bug and there is no known solutions to this.

I have done substantial searching on the question of overcoming revone failed error code -6 and have tried most of the troubleshooting steps (not all) without success.
However, a consistent trend I saw was the need to provide details about my specific situation, so I wanted to give that a shot before continuing to flail.

Steps Taken
HTC One Toolkit (-6 occurs at 4. Prepare Revone)
CMD Entry via standard approach (adb shell, cd, chmod 755, etc.). This fails at ./revone -P
Attempted chown root: root revone (I'm writing that from memory, I apologize if its is slightly wrong)
Reverted from 4.3 to 4.2.2 via MaximusHD 11.0.0
Drivers updated via HTC One Toolkit
Yes, USB Debugging enabled, fast boot disabled
Removed HTC Sync from computer about 20 minutes ago I just discovered I'm now getting Device Not Found errors in CMD after removing Sync. I thought I'd licked this problem, but apparently my success was tied to HTC Sync. However, everything written already was when device was found.
Steps Not Yet Taken
Downgraded to 1.24.*.10 and then upgraded to 1.24.*.12 - I'm not entirely clear how to do this.
Attempted Rumrunner despite being 1.44 - I read a post where someone had been successful despite their HBOOT, but haven't done it yet.
[Edit] Have downloaded M7 TWRP Nandroid Backup CID CWS__001 1.26.502.10.zip but not yet flashed. Assuming I even have that concept right, that you install this by flashing like I did the MaximusHD 11.0.0 ROM
Known Potential Issues
Some people have alluded that an OTA HBOOT release of T-Mobile contained an impenetrable block for revone
Others have said error code -6 is just a known bug. I'm assuming that would mean I'm **** outta luck?
In CMD, I've seen others with "[email protected]", but I was getting "[email protected]"
I attempted to run as su, but wasn't entirely clear on how to do that. I didn't get any error messages, so I'm assuming I did it correctly. I believe I performed it as "adb shell su" or perhaps I just did "su" after getting into the shell.

I've done this before , (format /sdcard)..but this time I went a step further and did (format /data) AND also
(format /data and /data/media) commands. I might have even hit the Format /system command .
Now I'm stuck at the HTC quietly brilliant screen, with the red text on the bottom..and it wont go no further...i just wanted to shine my sd card..
And because I have formated my SD card, there is nothing on it so no back up now... I'm on the Viperone rom..and by formating system i think i wiped the device :S..i really dont know..man.
So i tried opening an ADB shell to see if i could push the Viperone zip from my pc direcctly..but adb doesn't recocgnize the device..

Not the problem, I can boot into recovery but my phone doesnt start up.
I cant place nothing on the sd card to flash, and ADB SHELL isnt recognizing my device..
so i have to reflash a stock carrier right? by running an RUU exe?

Wait can't I just PUSH the zip. to my sdcard then run the zip from clockwork??

OK, this time I added the .ZIP to the end of the file.
Now its showing just a (-) blinking.. never returned a message.. i'll wait for a bit
then i'll try pushing it to the /sdcard/ and see what happens then.
After the blinking - stopped it returned this mesage

I have a Sprint HTC One M8. It's rooted. I have TWRP. I basically just wanted to get rid of bloatware. But now I want to follow a tutorial that requires me to be S-OFF.
I think I am on this step:
Push, Prepare, and Execute firewater:
adb reboot <–important!!!!
adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
/data/local/tmp/firewater
When I type any commands nothing happens. adb devices, adb shell, etc. Nothing. Am I supposed to go in Recovery?
If I go into recovery they work.. so I rebooted.. I pushed firewater over. I did adb shell and up pops:
~ # <-[6n.
I hit SU and it says /sbin/sh: su: not found.
I did chmod command from above. When I do the last step /data/local/tmp/firewater it says permission denied.
When you are booted into android make sure usb debugging is enabled. Settings > About > Software Information > More > click Build Number like 10 times to enable developers options. Then go to Settings > Developer Options > check USB Debugging. Also go to Settings > Power > uncheck Fastboot, You have to run firewater from android, NOT from recovery. What exactly are you trying to do that requires S-OFF?
Thanks. I've already got Developer. USB Debugging is enabled.
EDIT: Because I misread your post. I didn't know I run Firewater through Android. But anyway, it's not working.
I'm just doing a simple mod to hide the Boomsound icon. Stupid to have that clog up my notification area.
PS - I see you're in Ocean City, NJ? My friends wife's parents live in Somers Point. I go down to Smithville sometimes.. little town with all the shops in it.. it's fantastic when they decorate it for Christmas. Really nice stores to shop in and the inn has the best french onion soup I've ever had.

I am not sure exactly what you have going on, but here are a few tips. Make sure you have it mounted as a storage device. Also, make sure you open the command window in the same folder you have adb in, or navigate to that directory properly.

That reply helped me. You said "mounted as storage device". When I clicked my phone it said "HTC SYNC" on it.
I'm good now, thanks!
I just went through this yesterday. Updating adb fixed it for me. Also, following those commands necessitates that the file is where u type it. So, I followed another website's guide and achieved s-off.

Every time I connect my phone, all I need to do is select "Disk Drive" rather than HTC Sync. By default the phone chooses that. Now everything works fine.
I know you have already fixed your problem but I recommend uninstalling the HTC Sync Manager from your computer. Keep the HTC Drivers though. If you still get the popups to install HTC Sync after you uninstall it; remove the installer/option on your M8. You'll need a file manager and root to do that or you could install ViperOne and de-select the option in Aroma.
I can't remember the file you have to remove off-hand though, I just went through my folders and deleted stuff I didn't need or want. I made backups just in case it needed to be re installed.

I am not sure exactly what you have going on, but here are a few tips. Make sure you have it mounted as a storage device. Also, make sure you open the command window in the same folder you have adb in, or navigate to that directory properly.

I was having similar problems with my M7 and Windows 7 devices after upgrading to 4.4.2 and Sense 6 (Team Nocturnal NuiSense). My phone wasn't recognized by HTC Sync or CDMA Workshop.
I kept uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, to no avail.
What finally worked like a magic bullet for me was to dial ##3424# and turn on DM Command Service.
I'm not sure if that will work for you, but it may be worth a shot.
I hv same problem but how I can on my USB debbuging mode ,,, rooted but no OS

When you are booted into android make sure usb debugging is enabled. Settings > About > Software Information > More > click Build Number like 10 times to enable developers options. Then go to Settings > Developer Options > check USB Debugging. Also go to Settings > Power > uncheck Fastboot, You have to run firewater from android, NOT from recovery. What exactly are you trying to do that requires S-OFF?

Yes, I have an unlocked bootloader, and I'm rooted and was running the GPE ROM. However, I wasn't doing anything special. I was using adb to push a movie to my device. After a really long time (about 50 minutes, the file was almost 7 GB) I get an error in the command prompt saying the the push failed or permission denied or something. I try turning on the phone and nothing happens. I unplug and plug back in and this QHSUSB_DLOAD thing is in the device manager instead. I did a little Googling and it seems that this means the phone could be hardbricked?! I've tried holding the power button for at least a minute, power and volume down, power and volume up. The buttons aren't flashing as they usually do if it's being hard resetted. I also tried the light trick for those who know about it but no dice. Currently I have it plugged into an outlet, but the charging LED isn't on. I'm freaking out. Am I screwed or is there a way to fix this? I've read the USB QDLoader 9008 cited specifically for hardbricking but mine doesn't have any numbers attached to the end of it.

here's a potential fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770684
if this doesn't work and its under warranty then return it to your provider.
I bought the unlocked version straight from HTC a little more than a year ago with no extra warranty. Do you think they will still repair it for free? And if they ask if the bootloader is unlocked or not, if it's S-Off or not(it is), and rooted, what should I say? Also, I'm kinda curious why it bricked in the first place when I wasn't even writing to system or anything, just copying an MKV file.

first of all never tell them it was rooted or s-off etc, they will tell you that you have to pay, they will shift all failure blame on to you.
secondly, if it was over a year ago they will probably make you pay anyway, telling you that your warranty has expired.
did you try the unbrick project ?

I posted the same unbrick project link in the other thread you asked about this in. It's definitely worth a try. Don't be put off by the fact it requires Linux. It's not that difficult to setup a bootable usb stick you won't need to touch your Windows install at all. I can certainly help you with that. And it could fix your phone for free, where as HTC probably won't

Hi, I'm going to try it soon. I do have experience with Linux(my major is CS) . The only thing is, where do I get fastboot on Ubuntu? I've already booted into Ubuntu from USB and I'm downloading the package from that unbrick link.

to install adb fastboot this is easy just 3 commands in the terminal. Thanks to Webupd8 team.
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Code:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Make sure your connected to the internet and press Ctrl+Alt+T to open the terminal then type or copy and paste the above commands one at a time waiting for each to complete there out put. It may seem to have stopped at times but be patient when the prompt returns to normal enter the next command and when there all done your ready to use adb and fastboot.
Edit:- @Seanie280672 beat me to it

Hi the first two commands work but the last one doesn't seem to:
Code:
[email protected]:~$ sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package android-tools-adb
E: Unable to locate package android-tools-fastboot
if you get any errors whilst downloading adb and fastboot, you may need to go into control panel and settings and enable Eclipse, or something like that its just a tick box, took me ages to work this part out.
EDIT: yup you have the same problem I was having, you need to enable that setting, cant remember exactly where it is, but its in control panel somewhere, its just a tick box.

Mmm that's a problem from the repository side. Maybe the packages were updated and renamed or removed for some reason
I know they were removed once before but then came back due to regular requests. I'll take a look at the git page brb

if you get the download issue again, see my post here, finally found it, its how to fix the download problem, might be worth doing it before downloading anything, as you'll see from my post and the user I quoted, took us both ages to figure the problem out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52920846&postcount=49
once universe, not eclipse, was enabled, everything downloaded and installed fine.

One other heads up when using Fastboot in linux all commands must start with sudo preffix or they will fail. So
Code:
fastboot devices
becomes
Code:
sudo fastboot devices
And so on the same for all Fastboot commands. Adb however works just the same as in Windows. But if when you first try adb devices you get
Code:
no permissions ????????????
Then type
Code:
sudo killall adb
Disconnect your usb cable and reconnect then
Code:
sudo adb devices
After that adb should work and without the sudo preffix.

Okay I will keep that in mind. But it seems that all you need to do is call the sudo ./revive.sh. I'm assuming that does all the work for you? I'm currently redownloading the Unbrick tar file. Assuming this process doesn't work, do you have any guesses on how much HTC will charge to fix this? If it's $300 or close I may as well just get a Nexus 5 instead.

Yes but after the unbrick there is some more flashing to be done and I'd bet money that adb and Fastboot won't work in Windows because Windows is great like that but Linux will always work because it doesn't need drivers for Android phones because it's boss!!! Lol. just trying to keep you going through any potential pit falls :good:
And sorry no I have no idea how much HTC would charge I suppose it depends what they find. Also I'm from the UK so GBP for me

Code:

I've tried 2 different ports(a 2.0 and a 3.0) and it couldn't find it in either.
However if I run this command:
Code:
