I am not a fan of a pascode for the fingerprint backup, is there a way to use a pin instead.
ALSO, I want to get VPN to work with the fingerprint, it requires a lot more secure password I guess to get VPN to work?

I also hate the passcode, I wish I can use the pattern for an alternative

I have a VPN that I want to set on my phone, also some CERT's to some websites that I want to install on my phone.. Right now they are on it, but for some reason it disables the fingerprint scanner, and requires me to set a PIN or a password. It says that fingerprint is turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage.
my phone is rooted, is there a way to change this requirement? I would really like to use the finger print scanner.
thank you
Dear all,
I run the stock firmware and encrypted my phone including the SD card.
Is there a possibility to change the associated password? It seems only the lock screen password can be changed.
Best,
Hindman
Those are tied together. If you want to set the encryption password independently, that requires root. And https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.nick.cryptfs.passwdmanager&hl=de for example.

Oh yes, you are right. Thank you!
However, one might think that two separate passwords would make more sense. When unlocking a screen, nobody wants to input lengthy passwords, whereas typing a strong encryption password at bootup is acceptable.
I know that the fingerint scanner can be ued to unlock the phone and for paypal, web sign in and samsung verification but can I do anything else with it? It would be cool to lock specific apps. Are there any 3rd party apps that utilize the fingerprint scanner?
Ya, lastpass can be used to login to websites/applications automatically using your fingerprint. Really sweet not having to manually type in logins and passwords anymore!
And fingersecurity allows you to set up specific apps that require a fingerprint to get into them. It even has a in app purchase where you can set it not require the fingerprint while connected to specific trusted wifi networks and bluetooth devices. And even to set to only open when you use a specific finger, so not all fingers can open it if you don't want it to.
These are 2 that I have come to not be able to live without. I hope you like them as much as I do.

Dude fingersecurity is exactly was I was looking for. Thanks a lot! Do you know if there is an app to launch apps with your fingerprint?
Na, haven't heard or seen anything like that...don't exactly know how that would work exactly but maybe someone will figure it out.
Is there a way of enabling fingerprint security for fast entry of passwords without using a screen lock? I don't use a screen lock but would like a convenient but safe way of entering web passwords quickly.
I have a T815 running MM (not rooted)

You can use Lastpass, which is quite similar to what you are looking for.

I did consider Lastpass, but don't want to get into a monthly subscription. I'm also not sure how secure Lastpass is if you don't use a screen lock.

Yes, LastPass is a paid service for Android, although there is no charge to use on Windows. I have been using it for more than 5 years and all I can say is it's the best.
If you are not using the screen lock, you will still have the option to use PIN/fingerprint for the application.
Installed Oreo on my N950N this morning, and just now I found out that if I want to use biometrics in some apps (homebanking app, fast log in in many sites, using iris/fingerprint for entering secret mode on Samsung Internet) I'm forced to set up a screen lock security (pattern/pin or password) if I just put the simple swipe, I won't be able to use biometrics anymore? Why? What's the point of this forcing?

Any work arounds? I'm having issues resolving this one myself
I think its a security update on Oreo, so since it "might" be embedded on the code it might not be possible to do a work around without root or any major components changed, don't quote me on it this is just my opnion
