Hi everyone, I've been a following XDA for a while i've unlocked, rooted, flashed roms, etc., many times,
But this time i am not sure how to proceed. [I'm also a beginner... but I'm looking forward to contribute in the near future]
You see, I bought a Brand New Sprint Moto X , never been activated on any carrier, it arriving on Monday tops.
I already know how to unlock it, root it, and flash a custom rom.
but want to be able to unlock the gsm capabilities of the phone to use internationally, i know sprint offers this service but i don't qualify because i need to be 3 months in service whit them.
on the other hand i read in the General Section , in the model description:
XT1049 - Republic Wireless
XT1052 - European - Sim ?
XT1053 -T-Mobile US, Dev Ed
XT1055 - US Cellular - Sim ?
XT1056 - Sprint - Sim Unlocked
XT1058 - AT&T, Rogers, Claro, Movistar, Vivo, Oi, TIM - Sim Unlocked
XT1060 - Verizon - Sim Locked
What does it mean being "Sim Unlocked"
While i be able to use it on A GSM service (Mexico)
if not, could a posible solution be flashing the SFB for Telcel to my Sprint phone?
or will i just hard brick it?
Thank you very much for your attention.
Eddie
Didn't know the XT1053 was the Developer Edition, that's cool to know.
I'll be pending to this post.
Best

Sorry it won't work...at least not yet. But it appears you already found the relevant thread on SIM-Unlock for Sprint Moto X.

Its been tried. Flashing the SBF itself will work, but the phone will still be sim-locked and unusable on GSM.
Thank you!!

I understand now, reading a lot on the other threads and in other sites it now undrstand that sim unlock cannot be done unless i have service for 3 months or a fix comes [hopefully soon].
thank you.
just before we close this thread..
what if i flash an SFB of a CDMA carrier here, will it work? or will i have to reprogram the phone [ using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/guide-flash-sprint-moto-x-to-page-plus-t2732342 but using my cdma carrier PRL) ????
is this the right place to post this last question?
sorry, and thanks again.

Eddie,
Yes, you will need to follow the instructions in the "Flash Sprint Moto X to Page Plus" thread. You will need to change some of the steps as appropriate to YOUR carrier you are flashing to since not all steps will be the same as flashing to "Page Plus". Flashing a CDMA Rom will not work. AFAIK, the only other CDMA ROM available is the Verizon one which prevents you from being able to flash to another carrier. Does anyone know of any others?
Good Luck

Hello all,
I am about to take the plug in the Moto X world and have a couple questions. I live in the Great White North (i.e. Canada) so the only available version I can easily get my hands on is the Rogers version. My question is will I be able to use it on Rogers if I flash the Developer edition ROM. Will the developer edition ROM even work on a Rogers Moto X?
Thanks and much appreciated!
Yes, it will work fine as long as you have unlocked the bootloader. You will lose band 7 LTE (2600 Mhz) if you use the full developer edition firmware however you can flash the developer edition firmware and then flash just the modem from the Brazil 4.4 release and it will be restored. This is what I have been running for a while now on two Rogers XT1058s and it is working extremely well. Mine are sim unlocked and running on Koodo.
Thanks for the info! Sorry to ask such a noob question but where can I download the Dev edition firmware? I can't seem to find it. Also can you let me know where I can get the Brazil modem?
Much appreciated!!

Just curious, why would you need the dev edition ROM on the Rogers X? It has an unlockable bootloader, is extremely easy to root, and you can remove any extra apps Rogers puts on it? What's the advantage to using the dev edition ROM?

Here's the Dev edition firmware i.e. T-Mobile (Developer Edition GSM) - XT1053:

Hello dear friends, Ive been wondering if it's possible that I flash a XT1053 (also D.E.) firmware onto my XT1060 Verizon D.E. and it would become a XT1053 handset for use on GSM networks? Sorry in advance if my question is too silly, but I have searched much for a week now without no any clear answer. Thank you very much too pay attention to my question?
You probably can, but you would get no service since the Verizon Version es CDMA and the XT1053 Version is GSM. But I think I heard that if you edit the Build.prop lines you can probably get service. Also this shouldn't go in the Development Forum, you should move this to the Q&A Forum.

Maybe if u edit the .xml to avoid flash the modem

You can definitely flash foreign builds onto the XT1060 Dev Edition. I was in fact running the German build of 4.4.2 on my XT1060 because there is no bloat to mess with. I've switched to the T-Mo 4.4.2 build now so I can use faux kernel but thats beside the point. I have no problem using these builds on Verizon's network as long as I have LTE/CDMA selected as the network mode (instead of LTE/GSM).
BUT
You can only flash system, boot, and motoboot to my knowledge. I haven't flashed any of the others because I haven't wanted to take the chance and have to spend time fixing it if something goes wrong. If you know how to use fastboot to flash specific files then you're golden.
If you want to use your XT1060 on GSM networks, then flashing system, boot, and motoboot from a T-Mo or foreign build will help you in that department. The VZW firmware doesn't have a lot of options for GSM networks (network modes, APN settings etc.) but the GSM builds do.

Thank you guys!
These info are surely helpful to me. As for my case, I'm going to receive a Verizon Moto X Xt1060 from my brother, but my network in here (outside of US) is GSM. Though my brother told me Verizon Moto X is a dual network handset and it supports GSM carriers, but through searching I read that it's right that it is able to work on GSM networks but not fully, especially 4G LTE and some other value-added services. Well, the only two things I need to be clear is whether XT1060 works perfectly in voice calls, 4G LTE, sms, mms... and other GSM stuff. A friend told me that by flashing a XT1053 firmware which is original GSM, my phone would become full GSM handset, no longer Verizon or any CDMA at all.
Well, anyone else please confirm this for me? Any dear friend have been using XT1060 with identical issue as my case? Many thanks again.
can someone make a guide for flashing foreign builds on different variants will be highly appreciated :good:
Hi
On ebay one excellent condition moto x is listed.its xt1058 model.I am from india and planning to buy this. But can i unlock it?if i can, will all the functions work after unlocking?also will i receive all moto x updates on this?Or if there are any other problem i can face after unlocking a phone, please elaborate.?
One more question in my mind why mint conditions carrier locked phone are available in larger quantitites in usa.Is something fishy about these phones?
Seller has large quantities like 30 phones to sell all mint conditions xt1058 at and t models. From where such phones come in large quantities?
If its an ATT XT1058 it can be SIM unlocked, but not Bootloader unlocked (unless you can use the Chinese Website/MiddleMan).
The other questions, I can't answer.
[Q] huh? Belongs in "Q & A" section. Sorry, not trying to be an ass. Rules are rules...that's one of the simplest.

I have no first-hand experience buying sim-unlock codes, so I can't recommend one personally. If you search the Moto X forums, there are a few different ones mentioned that users claim to work.

While SIM locked, you can only use ATT SIMs in the phone. After you SIM unlock you can use the SIM from other GSM carriers. I do no know what GSM and LTE bands your carrier uses, so I can't speak to how well the ATT XT1058 will work on your carrier once SIM unlocked.
I don't know if you will receive updates with the ATT XT1058 when using it on a different carrier.
There are many sources on the internet selling the SIM unlock code for ATT Moto X (XT1058).
Bootloader unlocking allows you to easily root and disable write protection, as well as flash 3rd party or "after market" recoveries and roms. There is only one source for Bootloader unlock code for the ATT XT1058, and that is in the Chinese Website/Middleman threads in the general section here.
I have been looking, but unable to find any information, and I really have a two-part question;
1. Does the t-mobile variant have different software than the unlocked version?
2. Is there any way to get ISIS working on an unlocked xt1053 with t-mobile?
Sorry if these were already answered, but I couldn't find anything! (there is plenty about ISIS on AT&T)

GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 (Quadband) UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
According to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moto_X#Variants
The Moto X model XT-1053 is the unlocked Developer Edition phone and does work on AT&T. The bands area also listed there.
thank for the help.
So i have to download the moto X developer image for att right?

Yes that appears to be correct. I do not have a Developer Edition, but there is only one set of images for Verizon, which does have a DE device available. The firmware is the same, to my understanding, but the bootloader is able to be unlocked officially via the Motorola website.
Here are the firmwares you'll want. Ensure that if you pick one, you can only go UP in version, not down. So verify which version is on the phone first. You can only flash that version or a higher version (upgrading) but cannot downgrade to an older version. That will cause problems.

XT1060 is the model for Verizon.
Google what bands it uses. Then compare to what at&t uses. I've seen in here people using it on tmo Idk about at&t. As far as which version to mix with your phone I'll bow out to someone with more experience with that
Edit: and next time you post make sure you put what MODEL phone you have and the software version. Would've saved some time possibly.
