ASOP out for N4 and others on Moto G is trying it out or talking about it. Maybe we can too just to see. Whose knows what files lie within we can pick apart and build something. Just for fun its not a full platform
Anyone know how I can get the dialer from L?

Lol this is impossible with a locked bootloader. Even with an unlocked bootloader, this is difficult due to lack of binaries and source for the MotoX.
No luck on dialer apks. They don't install. "Problem Parsing Package"
We will just have to wait..

Why don't you just load the google dialer from 4.4.3 or 4.4.4?
Sent from my XT1058 using XDA Free mobile app
Because there has been no real success of using that as a primary dialer.. No history, no caller-id
Even if u manage to install the dialer you won't get the material design as the framework does not support it... Moreover the apps have a fallback UI so they will look like the KitKat version
Not worth it. A lot of work to port over just a preview OS.
I perfectly understand..
Just thought I might mention it for anyone who has too much time on their hands with more experience.
I feel like the moto x wont get android l till around next month or later. Motorola, HTC, and all the other companies dropped the 5.0 Source code so it probably wont be insanely difficult to port it to the moto x. Just gotta get some skilled devs down here so they can help us out. If anyone is willing to try to port L (5.0) to the 4.4.4 bootloader I'd be more than happy to test out whatever needs to be tested.

Seeing Google owns Motorola what do you think the wait time would be for Kit Kat? Seeing the X has yet to see 4.3 I have a sinking feeling it might be awhile.
There are phones that have been out a lot longer that don't have 4.3... And 4.3 is in the testing stages... Be patient it has only been 2 months... They're still doing bug fixes... And with 4.4 right around the corner they may or may not just move to that.
Motorola doesn't get special privileges for android. They get access when everyone else does.

Being that its very close to stock Android, however, should make the upgrades a little more seamless. Theres not much to change except the specific Android functions, which might be there anyways like the touchless stuff.

I'm with everyone else on this. Could be a while, especially if you're on VZW. Hoping the developer community kicks into high gear here pretty soon and we start seeing 4.3 ROM's well before it is an official OTA. Same for Kit Kat.
My question is: is there really a need for the update? Granted, I do want wish to install some apps that only work only with 4.3. But they are not that necessary.
With the leaks about 4.4, printing and payment option, seriously, do you really need those things?

Don't forget a lot of the updates are also under the hood optimizations that make the phone run better. Also there are some UI changes. I personally like what I saw from the leaked images today. I'm sick of the cyan blue throughout. I will like the white status bar icons much more. Good for you for being content lol. Personally I want 4.4 now even though having the vzw moto x I will probably never see it as an official ota

I've learned my lesson with non nexus phones lol. Don't expect any timely updates. I'm just gonna pick up a Nexus 5 to mess with the newest software and development. Even if development finally picks up with this phone the only good Roms (at least for me) will be the Roms based off stock and that means I'll have to wait until an official 4.4. So to curb my need for rooting and flashing I'll just use a nexus lol.

They are pushing more and more system stuff into the Play Store, and the Moto X is about as well optimized for that as can be, so at least we have that. As much as I love the AOSP I'd be happy if Googlrola pushed everything but the kernel into play services, at least for their phones.
This phone is breaking my crackflashing habit, which is probably good for me, my career, and my family.

I have a feeling that once developers start writing more roms for the Moto X, we'll get in a nice groove in terms of latest versions of Android. Whether or not it's stock-based, PA, CM, or OmniRom remains to be seen though
Hey any devs out there will skills ,resources and the time PLEAAASE PLEAAAASE make an AOSP build for the Moto X.... I know Motorola will be quick with their updates but i just cant wait!!! I am just refreshing the Development sections of the Forum every hour hoping for a ROM build....
I believe devs would have to make a whole new kernel since L was not released for the moto x yet. Not sure if someone will do that before it is officially released for us.
I just want it! Caaant wait! i really hope some dev is already working his ass off to bring us some Lollipop!

Without kernel and binaries = No deal. It was already tried with KitKat, I tried with the AOSP sources but without a Kernel developer dedicating it's precious time and the binaries/drivers, just give up on your dream.

Its definitely NOT impossible!!! When other devices like S3 mini,s3,Xperia Z can run without the binaries.... Why cant the Moto X? People have just given up on this phone!
I mean till now we were in the spotlight, but after Moto X 2014 we have been pushed back... We always have run the latest versions of Android till date n have never faced the need for porting n stuff... but i guess this will change when Motorola stops supporting us, then OSs would be ported withot Binaries!

They worked on other devices because they have common parts inside of them. Commom snapdragon chips, when the Moto X has the "powerful futureproof Moto X8 Mobile Computing System", it still a snapdragon, yeah, but heavily modified. As I said, until we see sources we won't get it. Why? The work to make a KitKat kernel (specially the Moto X one) work on Lollipop isn't worth the effort. Unless you pay someone for it...

As far as I understand the modification to the processor is not to the Main processor itself but its just the addition of further coprocessors... I doubt if Qualcomm would keep quiet if Motorola messed with their processor and called it their own! Aaand.. Even with the sources we are not allowed to use the coprocessors right? So they are pretty much useless! I STILL don't think its THAT HARD! yeah it might be hard... But others have done it... People here just don't try as much I suppose!

I have a .zip of the Moto X 5.0 ROM and I'd like to try and figure out how much of the Moto software I can get working on the Nexus 6. Does anyone have experience debugging apk install failures so that I can see why they failed to install and hopefully at least get SOME of the Moto apps working for us?
Thanks.
In the past (and most likely current but I don't follow other manufacturer skins) the apps are highly reliant on the framework of the skin (touchwiz, LG ui etc). Framework is closed source and would need a port, which developers do not port other skin roms as there isn't a big enough demand plus those are proprietary applications which the company can send cease and desist.

The moto X has no skin, but it is possible there is some integrated framework. I won't know till I earn how to debug I guess.

The whole part I said about a skin is the manufacturer rom. It'll have a closed source framework just like every other manufacturer rom. The proprietary Motorola applications rely on Motorola framework.

Don't have Mui yet and have no clue what Flyme even is. So have a long wait coming unless you got a dev in your pocket.
There was a thread a while back where a few users were trying to port the OS from the Moto X Pro, but there didn't seem to be much interest in it so it died.
Since the Moto X Pure is running proprietary closed source software, on completely different hardware, I bet that there won't be a ROM port. Some apps maybe, but definitely not a full ROM. Very rarely do full closed sourced ROMs get ported between devices. And even when they do, there often are issues (performance or things just not working).

Jeez, dude. The X Pure hasn't even been RELEASED yet. Patience.
I heard the ROM for Moto X Pure is pretty awesome. In the past, ROMs have leaked from devices when the device isn't even out. I don't know why there is a surprise I asked this? I just thought someone had more info then others. We will wait and see if anyone does decided to do something with it.

So, it's quite possible that our much beloved Nexus 5 doesn't receive final Android N, afterall.
In that case, I was wondering it anyone would be interested in providing a custom N build, with no changes, compared to Google's own build.
I mean, ODEX, non-zipaligned, no root, nothing. Just stock like stock Google software.
I'd pay for this.
Is it possible for someone to create a ZIP that can be sideloaded in the default recovery?

When the final release is out, it's pretty safe to say that someone will make a build for the Nexus 5. Until then, there is nothing devs can do right now. Google currently doesn't have everything available to do so.
Yes, I know.
I'm talking about the future, after N is uploaded to AOSP.
I know there will be lots of ROMs, but I just wanted stock Google software, no root, theme, anything.
Basically, an unofficial Google OTA.
I'm willing to pay for this, and I can gather many people to join this cause.
probably Google will release android N to Nexus 5, but its the last official release to it. Just like Nexus 4 on Lollipop era, was pretty the same thing.
How is that surprising they want you to buy the next device so if they drop support look at it this way you can always install a ROM and I'm confident you will see something up fast

Nop, Google won't release the Android N for Nexus 5, as they dropped the support for newer releases in October 2015. But of course that as soon as the source code is out we'll get the update because the devs will take care of that

True though xD
Looks like afterwards I have reason
We all know there will be lots of ROMs.
But the purpose of this thread, is to get to know if any developer would like to provide a stock "Google" equivalent, for those that want their N5 to feel like it's been updated by Google itself.
I'll sure try, especially if there is money on the line lol
I won't make any promises, but I'll gladly take a look when the source gets out if I still have the device.
I've been reading stuff on Reddit, and many people would appreciate this "Google experience" ROM.

No it is not officially over, nothing on that page confirms it is officially over. Only the ''Guaranteed" support is over for the Nexus 5.
That doesn't mean it won't get Android N, I think the chance for a official release of Android N for the N5 is really small but there's still a chance it will get it.
Till the final release of Android N is out no one knows anything for sure if it comes to the future of the N5.

I know he used to do it for the N5, pretty sure I've seen his builds for a few other phones as well. That was his thing. When a new Android OS comes out he usually releases a stock / AOSP build. Non rooted, no mods, etc. I'm not sure if he's still around though, but it can't hurt to ask.

Looking at the history of ROMs in the past here on XDA, there is usually always someone who ports a pure AOSP build with no mods. I wouldn't worry about it much. Especially this early.
I hope so.
Not really into modding/rooting/whatnot.
A stock Google-ish ROM for me, and I'll be happy.
Dont worry man.. Nexus 5 is still pretty popular phone and dev friendly so IMHO you shouldn't be worried at all.. There is i believe 99% chance u will have Android n, just be patient for a couple of months when the Android n will be officially released
