Hey any devs out there will skills ,resources and the time PLEAAASE PLEAAAASE make an AOSP build for the Moto X.... I know Motorola will be quick with their updates but i just cant wait!!! I am just refreshing the Development sections of the Forum every hour hoping for a ROM build....
I believe devs would have to make a whole new kernel since L was not released for the moto x yet. Not sure if someone will do that before it is officially released for us.
I just want it! Caaant wait! i really hope some dev is already working his ass off to bring us some Lollipop!

Without kernel and binaries = No deal. It was already tried with KitKat, I tried with the AOSP sources but without a Kernel developer dedicating it's precious time and the binaries/drivers, just give up on your dream.

Its definitely NOT impossible!!! When other devices like S3 mini,s3,Xperia Z can run without the binaries.... Why cant the Moto X? People have just given up on this phone!
I mean till now we were in the spotlight, but after Moto X 2014 we have been pushed back... We always have run the latest versions of Android till date n have never faced the need for porting n stuff... but i guess this will change when Motorola stops supporting us, then OSs would be ported withot Binaries!

They worked on other devices because they have common parts inside of them. Commom snapdragon chips, when the Moto X has the "powerful futureproof Moto X8 Mobile Computing System", it still a snapdragon, yeah, but heavily modified. As I said, until we see sources we won't get it. Why? The work to make a KitKat kernel (specially the Moto X one) work on Lollipop isn't worth the effort. Unless you pay someone for it...

As far as I understand the modification to the processor is not to the Main processor itself but its just the addition of further coprocessors... I doubt if Qualcomm would keep quiet if Motorola messed with their processor and called it their own! Aaand.. Even with the sources we are not allowed to use the coprocessors right? So they are pretty much useless! I STILL don't think its THAT HARD! yeah it might be hard... But others have done it... People here just don't try as much I suppose!

It's not worth porting over just so 50 people can have Lollipop on their Moto X 2013 when it's going to come within the next month anyway.'
Those other devices will probably either never get Lollipop or well get them much later.

Hi!
Someone know if this Drivers give us some possibility to adapt a ROM with Android KitKat 4.4 for our Droid3 phones?
I have a Milestone 3 (XT860), and I think they have the same micro.
I´m sorry for mi english, I write you from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Thank you very much!!!
I'm hoping, but we just don't have a dev strong enough to build some ROMs for us. I've been following and dhacker29 has been hard at work on this which really surprises me. It's actually coming together quite well. I will be curious to see how it progresses.

I'm just a newbie when it comes to developing for android and such, but knowing the specs of the D3 and what KitKat is supposed to run on, there honestly should be no real excuse. I understand it's a two year phone, but I wish Motorola would stop and think about old high end phones that people end up buying for cheap a year or two after release.
I think that's the point of the G. The problem isn't that Motorola or Google couldn't make a Kit Kat rom as much as TI got out of the mobile chipset business but didn't give out the source for everything. If we had the source getting a developer to help would be much much easier. I am like you in that I am not a developer but just good at fixing things and have a job helping others fix computers on the high end.
We could sure try but the other problem is that 4.4 made drivers basically need to be recompiled for a newer kernel and we can't just reuse the drivers from older builds.

@Xbacko The current Moto OMAP CM11 build needs some minor fixes and then it will be compatible for Droid 3. Still no camera tho.

Waiting anxiously for kitkat on solana! (and maybe full camera working?)
I know my moto x android version works flawlesly out of the box with some xposed mods just to personalize it, but today I decided to check the development section to see if there are some cool and interesting things to flash.
To my surprise I haven't seen much action there, I would have expected some port of firefox os or at least ubuntu (like there was for the Samsung Galaxy SIII) why is that? I'm not a developer so unfortunately I lack the knowledge to do something like that or I would.
Are there really no moto x owners wanting to try some (probably broken ) alternative OSes?

If you lack the knowledge, learn lol.. Not all of the Moto x can get an unlocked bootloader so development is restricted or limited to a certain extent for some devices like the Verizon Moto X or the ATT version . But even though that's no excuse, most people prefer stock and decide not to go through the hassle of porting a different OS. Just my opinion. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.
Lack of interest, most likely. Firefox OS is a little pointless on devices with the hardware spec to run Android without batting an eyelash. As for Ubuntu Touch, there are a lot of devices not seeing it just due to a lack of interest in the OS itself from a lot of people (sadly). Only the most popular devices are likely to see ports of it.
That being said, I'd love to see Ubuntu Touch on Moto X, it's one of a few reasons I originally considered getting a Nexus 5 when i decided to get my Moto X.
Any non stock based ROMs we have still have major issues after a year.....can you imagine the issues with anything out of the ordinary like Ubuntu, Miui and other very different systems.
The X is just not a phone for developers or flashaholics. Its best run stock, (or stock based roms) maybe with Xposed for extra features. No one wants to lose their moto features either, and you only will have those on stock or stock based ROMs.
Things may change after the X stops getting updates. You may see more development then.
I have always wanted to run Ubuntu touch. I am trying to get it to work on my Samsung note pro but the selinux enforcement is a road block.

There's definitely a strong incentive to stay stock on the X.....but it didn't cure me unfortunately. I gave it to my wife, got an N5, installed multirom and have 4 ROMs installed on it as we speak. Lol

N5 is really tempting (or it would be if I wasn't on Verizon).

Yes, strange they can't be used on such a large carrier.

You are a FLash drunken then XD
ive been eyeing swappa listings for 2013 nexus 7s just to run Ubuntu touch, firefox and Android L preview.
I wanna buy Moto G 2nd but there is so little roms. There will be more? Somebody will make group of developers? I wanna phone with roms ;(
Because the device is just 4 months old.
Give it time, the Cyanogenmod build sounds like it's progressing nicely, and once that reaches a good point there's usually a flood of other roms.
Who needs roms as long as Motorola still supporting lollipop until this moment

me.
And me Thanks for reply
Maybe sound a little dumb, but on the 2013 model was the same.
Because we were all waiting on you to start making them!
Well, that's a complex work to do for what I read
It is my understanding that the issue is Motorola being slow at releasing the source code for the kernel. However, Motorola finally released the source for the Lollipop 2014 Moto X at the end of February. I read somewhere, maybe here on XDA, that a couple of devs are going to build for the phone. But I don't know for certain if/when that would happen. Fingers crossed that we'll see some custom kernels eventually.
Someone posted a while back that the famous Faux either has his hands on the X or is planning one getting one in the near future.

That was me. I asked him and he said that when Motorola releases the code he would do it. I think its just a matter of time.... @faux123
So... SO many models floating around the web. Which one is the best for custom stuff such as ROMs and what not?
XT1925-2? Or..?

None, given Android Pie is confirmed for the G6 models, people are staying away from developing ROMs.

I apologize, I don't quite follow what you mean.... So are you saying because it's going to get pie that it's basically useless as a phone for custom roms? That just doesn't make any sense to me

Just when I thought I was succinct. No one is building any ROM for this phone as of now. And many people who are holding this phone would likely not switch to a custom ROM because Android Pie would come soon, as soon as this fall. Please do not hold me for either statement, you being a senior member, you may be more knowledgeable about these things.
theres not enough dev support for any g6 device plain an simple if you cant tell by looking through the threads on here. the only one that has had even the tiniest bit of support is the g6+and thats just the most barebones stuff. tbh your best bet would the moto e5 or something i gave up on the g6 play and got a z2 force. i still have the g6 play if you know any devices interested in it

Ugh, I hate when they focus on the crap devices... why is it so hard to get away from crapoled and have even bare rom support?
The G6+ is just waiting for a dev to get the device. The funds were raised through donations and the device is on its way to India to the dev.
As for the "barebones" comment we have Los 15.1. That's android 8.1. Our devices ship with 8.0 and Moto has not released 8.1 and may skip right to Android 9(P/Pie). The Los rom we have is fully functional and working aside from Bluetooth calling. After flashing Los 15.1 you can then flash Gsi files which are generic system images. This will probably be the successor to roms imo. With Gsi you can flash Android P in a variety of flavors but beware of additional bugs as Pie has only just been official for a month roughly. So yes you could somewhat consider this barebones, I suppose, because Los15.1 had laid the ground work to where other roms could be ported with out much effort.
The g6+ will probably never have a huge variety of roms but atleast we have been promised los16 which should open enough doors to make an impact.
Tl;Dr the g6+ is the only G6 model with a dev. Dev will be receiving g6+ in a week or two(due to international shipping from the US to Indiana). We will get los16. Get a g6+ and be patient but forget the G6 and G6 Play variants.

Oh and Los16/Pie for Evert/g6+ will probably be released tomorrow.
