Hi,been on moto x for 20 days loving the phone, althogh i have a query regarding phone heating.whenever i charge the phone, phone nd charger get super hot and im kinda scared it would damage my phone,so i charge for 1 hour only,do your phone also geta hot.

Think this is normal coz my Moto x also does that.. The charger becomes too hot and the phone too, but lesser than the charger..

Its normal. Whenever I'm charging the phone and using it at the same time, the phone heats up as well as the charger. It happened with my last Motorola phone as well. No worries.

I don't know, I mean OP is in Delhi, India, which is pretty hot, I am in Calcutta, hot here too, but still I can say after Galaxy S2 this is the coldest phone I have ever got. I mean yesterday I was charging at 1500 mA and playing Riptide simultaneously for more than an hour but still the heat was very manageable. On S4 while I charged that phone forget about gaming I could not even hold the phone to my ear in case of a phone call, it was that hot (the earpiece) that it seemed like it would burn by ear!
So I have zero complaints about the heating issue of this, because from my POV there is none. Also I am Overclocked at 1.9 GHz. So I really wonder when I see these heating issues, maybe different batch, don't know.
To be honest im at office which is centrally air conditioned and i charge my phone there in like crazy cold (our facilites manager suck ) and still its hot and i have been android user for quite long and i know what is normal hot like all android phones are and crazy hot . . do you guys think i should ask for replacement

Well there are two ways to look at it. AC is on, and you saying crazy cold, so I am guessing below 25°C, and if ambiance is that low then when you touch the phone it will feel hot, cause when the phone is being charged the battery will definitely reach 35+ degrees, so anything higher than ambiance will feel hot.
From another point, if the ambiance is low then phone should not reach high temperatures, so it should not be hot.
Maybe use the phone in normal conditions? At around 30°C and check if you still feel it hot? If you still do then definitely ask for replacement.
Hi guys got my Moto X a week back... I was just wondering the optimal temperature range for X. I am usually getting 34°-39°C in normal use without using any heavy apps. Even when I use whatsapp or open play store this is the normal temperature range is 35°-39°C. While charging it goes upto 42°-46°C. I just want to know whether its normal for you guys as well. I also played reptile gp2 which can't be considered a very heavy game. The temperature clocked was 46°C.
Are all these temperature range normal. Please suggest if I should go for replacement. I could easily get a replacement since the phone is not even a week old.

My phone gets really hot so it the battery or the phone. And what is a bad temp for the battery. I want to keep an eye on it when it gets hot. Now it gets hot mostly when im on 3g.

I know I get a really hot phone at times. Playing dungeon defenders or watching netflix, I've actually had my phone lock up a couple times with extended use. Had to pull the battery (Using the extended battery) to reboot. When I had the back off, the battery was warm, but not hot. Almost all the heat was coming from the bottom left corner of the phone (Assuming thats where the processor is).
I've got the clamshell case/holster combo I use, so i figure the case is holding in heat and making my problem worse.
My phone gets a little warm too, but it'll usually cool down when I'm not messing with it. If you have a lot of social networking apps or things running in the background updating automatically (push vs 10, 15, 30, 60 min) then it can get warm.
I only have two social apps updating and only every hour. Its seems that it does it when in on the enternet and checking my forums app. But even then im only on them for a few minutes. I think it get too hot to quick. I can handle some heat but not that much. Im just to figure out if I need to take my phone back for a new on. But im going to wait a few more days to see if it settles down.

My phone seems to run pretty warm, however the temp is only 38 degrees, which is well within acceptable limits.

Yeah, my phone is hot. Oh, you mean temperature-wise? Sorry, I was thinking sexy hot as in the design.
For real though, it does get hot, but rarely. Only does when I bluetooth tether internet while charging at the same time. Otherwise, it runs pretty cool (and still sexy).
Yes, I just called my phone sexy.
Try taking the sim card out. Mine would get pretty hot before, but ever since, it hasn't gotten near as hot. Even while playing Dungeon Defenders.
I have a battery widget with the temps on it so I can keep an eye on my temps and even though I did not use my phone that much to day it still got up to 107 at one time. I was on 3g with full bars. What's to hot ? Now im sure its not the battery getting hot but the bottom of the phone. So is that just as bad or is that ok?

I believe that's where the processor is. And I think it can go easily 10-15 degrees higher than the battery without an issue. I think. Not 100% on that though.

Hi, my HTC Incredible S heats up easily when i am just surfing the web or playing games. Sometimes my phone heats up till 40 degree celcius that i can't touch the phone So could it be a battery problem?
40 degrees and u cnt touch the phone? u must be made of butter lol
i had my phone up to 43 degrees before
so it is normal for phone to be so hot?

it's not normal for it to be hot all the time, if it heats up when browsing or playing games then it's normal
I too see this overheating thing while using Maps on Miui and HTC Locations on Sense. The phone reaches u pto 41 degrees Celsius. By the way, can anyone tell me what is the safe range for an IncS for a high temperature.
Also, I have heard that the touch screen might become faulty due to high phone temperatures. The reason given for this is that the digitizer is glued in HTC phones and at high temperatures the glue softens leading the digitizer displacement and static discharge. Can anyone confirm this theory?
That theory may be true but for phones made of higher quality components like HTC and Nokia ... It's not.... I experience heating while using sygic.... But not any other time... Also heating is aggravated by surrounding room temp... If its already hot then phones heat up easily...don't worry just try to keep your phone cool or give it in the service center for inspection...

Maybe a little off topic but my HTC Desire ran very HOT! when browsing the web and stuff.... I was very surprised when I got my Incredible S ... it gets a little warm but nothing that can compare to the Desire... I had my Desire for abour 1 and a half year, sold it about a month ago when I bought my Incredible S and it was still just as new, never had any problems with it so I don't think you need to worry about the heat...
i think u over clock CPU to high.try another kernel or change your Rom...
be careful may it damage your battery or phone hardware..
if heats again turn off phone and remove battery for 5 min..
Nope i did not overclock my CPU at all
is anyone that already owned HTC ONE have experiencing any heat issue ?
My concern before I replace my current phone (HTC ONE X+) to HTC One is the heat issue, since my phone that running on NVIDIA Tegra3 is extremely easy to get hot. I'm not sure whether my phone have hardware issue that makes it easy to get hot, or its because the processor itself that easy to get hot when running application especially the one that need 3D graphic.
There is a game on google play store named "Beach Buggy Blitz", and I saw on the welcome screen got writed "Powered By NVIDIA Tegra". I played that game for only approximately 10 minutes and my phone already heated up so much and I cant live with it . so I wonder about HTC One will have the same issue or not ?
i think snapdragon is 28 nm compare to tegra should be cooler
I have same problem with my one x+...
Can't play any game more than 15 min.... It will get hot and start malfunction ....
Also drain battery fast after they got hot...

Like the above post HTC One's processor is 28nm(28 nanometers) so it's very2x small compared to tegra so it should produce less heat.

I thought its only happens on my phone, but then I guess its the NVIDIA Tegra3 issue rather than factory defects.:silly:
my ONE heats so much, and the metal frame behind makes its more hotter after player few minutes of games and browsing :cyclops:

Obviously, the aluminium is used as a heatsink. It'll get warm. The heat will dissipate. Not many dead.
Does the battery drop faster when hot. I swear mine does but need more time to be totally certain.
The only time I have a heat issue with mine is if it's on charge and I've been using it for ages at the same time. I'm lucky though because I invent faced any other heating situations in the slightest and especially not when I'm playing games (which I do quite a lot).
When playing games and charging it does heat up plus its aluminium so there will be heat felt. Otherwise it stays cool.

No. But a likely reason for the heat is use of battery... i.e., when the device uses energy, it is converting stored charge in the battery into heat and light.

Yes it happened to me today. I have been using the phone for the past 3 days, it got quite hot when using the camera, playing temple run and when it's hot, the battery dropped like crazy (from 30% to 11% in no time). Did I get a defective piece?
Anyone having lag issue playing with real racing 3 while charging? Btw the phone is quite hot too.

That is exactly your problem... You should NEVER play intensive games when it's charging.. You're just doing harm to the battery and increasing temps thus more frequent throttling.

throttling, when the device heats up it will throttle, never game on the charger is a smartphone and not Sega Game Gear
also custom kernels like ElementalX deals much better with throttling
Ok noted

I'm still trying to figure out what is the reason behind not gaming while charging.
Temperature isn't a concern since this phone will throttle at the same temperature, regardless of charging or not. In one game, the phone will play to 42 degrees and keep it from going over. The phone reaches this temperature both plugged and unplugged. I do notice that the phone throttles more when plugged, but it successfully keeps the phone from getting any hotter than normal gaming temps.
So what is the reason not to game when plugged?

Does anyone know, definitively, given what I wrote above, why we should not be gaming while plugged?

Rapid charge and discharge while gaming is probably the biggest reason. Really burns through the miles on the battery.

But on the charger you wouldn't be discharging, just a slower charge. With Dungeon Hunter 4, the phone will burn through the battery when unplugged, but it doesn't tax the system enough to discharge when plugged in.
I know previously, with my One X, super heavy games would cause it to slowly use up battery when plugged in. So I'm surprised I haven't seen that with the One. Maybe DH4 isn't as heavy as RR3.
But I'm starting to wonder if playing while plugged in is bad at all... consider laptops: If I wanted to play a game on my laptop, I would definitely have it plugged in. I don't think I've ever questioned whether that was bad or not. True, laptops have fans to keep it cool, but we already know the One will keep the battery below 43 degrees (at least for mine).

Laptops are made to withstand heat, and the way laptops stay on when on the charger is different. Most laptops use half battery and half charger power. When it's plugged in, you can yank the battery out and the laptop will stay on while phones run primarily on battery regardless if it's plugged in or not (THIS IS BASED SOLELY FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE SO WILL PROBABLY BE HIGHLY INACCURATE)

That's how it will be, and it kinda proves my theory too. Phones run on battery even when they are plugged in, and charging it while it's also rapidly discharging leads to a very hot and very slow charge.

Also, I imagine laptops would be different as their power draw is so much greater than a phone. A laptop charger provides much more than ours, even tablets are this way. So then the question also extends to tablets: are you not supposed to game while plugged in on a tablet?
It would be nice if we had a technical answer to this from HTC or someone in the field. I hate having to constantly recharge my phone because I played a game on it for an hour... Especially this phone, it takes so damn long to charge!

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG V20 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
What heat? The battery gets a little warm while charging. Once charged it reverts to room temperature.
i did a test. now the file got corrupted (because i used both, horizontal and vertical mode) so,, if i get to fix it i will upload it IT last about 3 hours playing 1440P videos, but the battery warmed upto about 41-42C. If the corrupted file doesnt fix, then im going to do a 1080p video and see how long it last.
Warm, similar to S7 Edge
I know Samsung is getting heat right now, but the LG did get warm when doing the initial download and setup. Not hot, just warm. During charging using AIDA64 I saw temperatures around 50c at times, and the battery temperature was up to 36c. This is similar to the temps on my S7 edge. I was not doing a fast charge, just using a regular wall charger with the included cable.
This phone is perfectly fine, and does NOT heat up any more than the average smartphone does. No need to worry about anything here...
I haven't noticed any heating at all, Even when setting up.

Mine didn't hear heat up using lg backup surprisingly. Mine barely has any noticeable le temperature increase during charging. Haven't tested a heavy duty game yet. Done some heavy file transfers over wifi and screen mirroring. No heat.
Just got my v20 a week ago and this thing runs cold all the time. Im coming from a HTC 10 and it's quite nice. My HTC 10 would get hot enough while charging it or playing a intensive game it needed to be stuck in a case or it would almost burn me.
My V20 was running hot, over 102°f
I had 32% battery life when I pulled the battery and waited 2 mins before I turned phone back on. When I turned phone back on, I was at 18% battery life and it's still declining as I'm writing this. WTF???

Same here, had it since it first came out and never had any heat issues with it. I swear these manufactures release updates and cause our phones to start acting up wherever they release a new device. It started happening after the G6 was announced and I received an OTA update for bug fixes! Bug fixes my ass, they just want us to buy a new phone!

Actually I had this problem a week ago. I had an LG V10 before that did the same thing then a few days later fried. I had to return it for warranty repair then sold it. Fast forward to an LG V20, love it had it for a few months then suddenly it was draining battery fast and getting hotter then normal. I downloaded a few battery apps to help me trace the culprit but to no avail. Finally one day I just powered it off for about 2 hours and it has been back to normal since then.
Very strange and got me a bit worried about another chipset frying or another bootloop... lets hope not.:good:
