Smart Dock Shenanigans

THE SMART DOCK IS NOW SHIPPING FROM VERIZON. I got my tracking number a few minutes ago.

I've been on the phone and in live chat with Samsung 3 separate times over the last 2 weeks, trying to get an answer about when the Smart Dock is going to be in stock. As we all know, it is listed as 'back ordered' on their website right now. Nobody can give me an answer, which is frustrating. What I am hoping is that they aren't going to hold out releasing until the 50% off coupon expires, which they very well could do. The fact that they can't be found anywhere (not even eBay) tells me that the only ones that are in the wild are review units, and that they have not even officially 'released' anything yet.
Anyone have any information to share on the subject of the Smart Dock?

I saw one at a Sprint store but no discount. I am in the same boat as you, waiting for Samsung.

Wondering if it's vaporware, myself.
Would believe it was seen at a sprint store if I saw a photo of it for sale.
It's not unusual for mfrs to create buzz for products and never release them, and cell phone accessories are among the most notoriously over-hyped and never-delivered. I don't even care about a discount - $100 isn't crazy for an HDMI-out and 3 USB ports all in one compact unit. Granted I'd love it at $50 but just think what Motorola would charge for this device and you'll feel better.

if i saw it at a sprint store, i'd buy it - did you happen to catch sprint's SKU number off the unit? I'd like to call around and see if anyone has them locally...

I've had one on backorder, but I've not yet passed the two week threshold. For what it's worth, Verizon has them in stock online: [Click!] I don't know about in stores when the Note II releases with them, though.

Thanks for this. I ordered one. This is the first retailer I have seen with them supposedly 'in stock'. We'll see if it really is.

Well, I ordered a couple of hours ago from Verizon, and my status already says 'shipped', although they have not provided a tracking number yet. So if you are looking for a Smart Dock and are willing to pay full price, it appears that Verizon is the place to go!

Since one issue I've seen identified with this is that you need to install an app to force the phone into landscape to take advantage of a HDTV display, I wonder if you could stick a TecTile to the back of the dock and set it to force landscape.
Thanks for the tip - if it's really available from VZW that's temping, though I've got an Amazon credit just sitting there. Keep us posted.

Does anybody know when the dock will be released in the UK? Seems to be no word on the web.

Galaxy s4 was available at my local sprint store this morning

I reserved the Galaxy s4 at my local Sprint store on Monday. Walked in today and they had 8 available. So needless to say, you might want to check your local Sprint store to see if they had any shipments because mine did. By the way I returned the HTC One for this phone and I couldn't be happier.

Sprint won't be my carrier but if they have them in store I would stop by just to check out the phone in person, assuming they have one for display.

Our 2 local sprint stores and BB all got the Sprint S4's in today. I almost bought one, but they would not match the online price of $149 that I could get on sprint.com by adding a new line. So I came home and ordered one up instead. $100 is a $100. But it was nice to play with one in the store a bit before making the final decision.

Wait, what? I thought Sprint delayed all of the S4s. When I called BB about my pre-order yesterday to see if it was affected, all I got was that it wasn't in yet and they wouldn't get any sort of an ETA because of them using drop shipment to (supposedly) get it there faster. I may have to drop in today and see what's up with that. >.>
Edit: Just did so. According to the rep I spoke with, Samsung only shipped the ATT phones. All other carriers' S4s have yet to show up. Anyone else running into something similar?

We went into the Sprint store shortly after they opened on Saturday just to see if they might have received any. I'd heard the delayed rumors too, so was not shocked when they said no. Mgr said he'd got an email the night before saying they might try to scrape a few together and get them there, so check back later. Basically the same story at the BB store 2 blocks away. Called later in the day and the Sprint store had them in. So I went in and played with it for a while. When they could not price match the web price, we went over to BB. They had also received the phones but would not match the price either.
All were Sprint phones, both colors, 16gb. They are getting delivered for retail sales, at least in some areas. Guaranteed. You can call the Sprint or BB stores in Rogers and Bentonville Arkansas to confirm it, if you'd like. They may all be sold out by now as there were folks lined up to look at them, but they had them for a while yesterday, at the least. I had a black one in my hands and ready to buy until the ad match snafu came up.

Sprint stores in NJ had them...but the store by me only had 6, 3 white / 3 black...I walked in after 3hrs of them being opened and they still had 4.

Haha your first paragraph was just be way my several went at one of my local corporate store I reserved a handset at. But when I called a friend at another corporate location just a few towns south of me, she said she had a huge supply but we're running low rapidly. And even at 10:15am the store was PACKED! So in turn, I had a feeling that some stores may have some supply. Which was exactly what happened. Funny, cause the 2 BB stores in Mt area have the Samsung booths. Neither were displaying anything. Which I thought was unusual, cause even though there is a delay, I would have thought that they would at least wanna show Em off

I got mine! 4.2.2 is alot different. Menu's have more to it. Overall I am liking the GS4. Bigger screen, smoother and faster than my GS3. I cant wait until a solid root is out there and for Ktoons OC kernel to come out! I can see this thing rocking 2.5 GHZ with it's quad core! My Quadrant score is already 12,772 stock, so I'm thinking 18,000 is possible!

Spoke to a sprint employee on the 24th(after they stopped taking pre-orders) and was told they'd only get enough S4s to satisfy pre orders and then would have to wait for "a week or so" for a shipment of S4s for the general public. So I preordered from amazon and they said they'd ship the today and deliver May 1st. But yesterday I called local sprint stores and 3rd one I called said they had one left in white. Amazon preorder cancelled shortly their after . Any way what I took away from this fro any one still looking for S4s is that some sprint stores have general public stock but generally the bigger stores closer to downtown (I'm in Houston). The stores that only have pre order stock just don't know what the hell they are talking about .

I'm in Houston too and got mine from the Westpark store. They had plenty of them. Like 50 or so! Don't know about today though.....

I must have gotten lucky, because I ordered mine online from Sprint Saturday the 28th in the afternoon (pst), and received a shipping notification Sunday at 10AM and received my shipment Monday morning at 9:45 AM. Needless to say I was happily shocked

I was able to use Upgrade Now for $100 fee. They bought my cracked E4GT for $64. They said they had 13 white and 8 black.

I've searched but I didn't found any thread for the portuguese market.
So, I think that we needed this place to talk about the long waited Nexus 5.
Last year was very to us to get the Nexus 4 (at least at a fair price). Due to the stock crash only in January or February it was available at the main stores like Fnac or MediaMarkt but priced over 550€.
I hope that this year we could have it a lot earlier. Last year Google released some of his services in our country, like books or music. I hope (ok, I haven't that much hope...) they carry on launching their services so that we could have Play Devices but it is unlikely.
Lets see what comes and which retailers would sold it. And we'll alwways have services like forward2me and, my favorite, friends all over Europe :laugh:

I approve of this post. I've also looked around the Nexus 5 forum and only found a way that involves using Tor and setting up a fake Google account, then buying from the UK, sending to a UK address and having the phone re-shipped to Portugal. This is way too much of a hassle for me and I can't say I fully trust it to work or be particularly cheap.
If anyone knows of a reputable online retailer that stocks the Nexus 5 and ships to Portugal, can you give us a heads up please? Or if you come up with an easier way of getting this candy into our hands?

Handtec has it on pre-sale with delivery expected arround November 11th. It's a litle pricey, it'sm about 359£ to the 16GB and about 401£ to the 32GB version. I'm not sure if we must add shipment dosts to Portugal but if so I don't that is over 10€.
I've read on another forum that forward2me has a special to this device that theeirselves bought the device and just ship it to you but needs to check this.

Personally, I'm going to try one of the The Phone House stores (The Phone House = Carphone Warehouse in Portugal, and other countries) and see if they could get a Nexus 5 in. Somehow.

I might do that as well. Did it in Media Markt already (they'll warn me if and when they get the Nexus 5), as they previously had the Nexus 4 for some time.

If it is the phone will be available in practically every major chain.
For those thinking about buying via playstore and forward2me it's much cheaper to buy from carphone warehouse (less hassle with mbnet declines, free postage to forward2me and no need for personal shopping)

Really ?! Because I've called FNAC today after reading your post and they had no idea what the heck I was talking about. And based in a past experience, ordering from Carphone Warehouse (even to a UK forwarding address) was actually a PITA.

The answer given by FNAC's representative wasn't, well... Too convincing. But yeah... Let's see what happens next week and, above all, how much they will ask for it.

I've ordered a black 32Gb one from the UK play store... Well, not me, but a friend of mine who's working in London.. He will then send it to me through Royal mail. I hope to have it by the 11th or 12th of November..!

I'm a litle afraid of Fanc's prices since last year they sold Nexus 4 @ 600€ but things may be diferent if LG make it official. I hope so since they seem to be trying hard to push their image and get their space in the smartphone's market with G2. A Nexus device is always a good way to increase that recognition.
I almost bought N5 this weekend but I believe is better to chill a bit and wait, I really have no hurge so I'll wait to see how the things evolve and how will be the availability here in Portugal. But that price from carphone is very tempting

Nope, you got the same problem. LG wanted to charge 600 for the N4. They'll probably do the same for the N5. So, even if it's an official release, we'll have it for 600€ over at FNAC.

Problem is, it isn't that easy to get CPW to send you anything to Portugal, even through a UK forwarding address. Firstly, because you need a credit or debit card associated to an UK billing address (I don't think you can do that with MBNet) and secondly, you need a real UK mobile phone number, something that services like Forward2me do not provide.
And I highly doubt FNAC Portugal will have the Nexus 5 in the coming week as a representative stated at FNAC's facebook page. Right now, the availability of the Nexus 5 in B&M stores isn't a reality with CPW being one of the very few exceptions so it's highly unlikely they'll have it in stock this week. But let's see what happens.

Lg has several country wide launches scheduled for this week, so I don't thing that's so unlikely

Hi everyone.
If I buy a Nexus 5 in the UK to use in Portugal (I have a friend in London that can buy it) will all radios work correctly in Portugal? I know GSM is the same in all Europe but what about 3G LTE. Can anyone confirm or tell me how I can check it?

Any info on when Best Buy will have this in store?

I am wondering if anyone knows when local Best Buy stores will sell this? I have seen a lot of problems on here so I am waiting for it to be available in store I think...

I am not sure when or if they will, but it cost them a sale. I would have paid a little extra to buy it locally. However, I ended up paying about $450.00 for it online and that included a two year warranty that covered drops, spills, etc! From what I have read so far, most of the issues seem to be with the dock. I did not get that anyway. I was already paying the limit of what I would pay for a tablet, and I think $150.00 is too much for a plastic dock, especially if it has quality issues.

Yeah I want to get it locally too but will probably buy off Amazon when its no longer under review and back for sale from Amazon again.

Yeah. Its not coming from amazon which is why its more money.

I was also waiting for this to be at Best Buy to get in stores, but they might not have it physically available... But you can order it in stores and it'll come in a few days for the price its listed for on their site or order it online and have it delivered to your local best buy. This could be easier in case of returns... I did this a last month with a 3rd party DLSR lens that was listed on their site on sale and was not available in stores and it came in 5days after I placed the order and paid for it in the store.
Also, just checked and Amazon has both the tablet and dock shipping directly from them.

Has best buy ever had the 16 gb version online? I've only ever seen the 32. Hoping to buy it there because I have some credit.
Edit: never mind, there is no 16 gb. Thinking of something else.

I was in my local Best Buy store recently, and asked an employee if they knew if when they were getting the TF701 in stores. The employee told me that more than likely, it would always be an item that is only available online. Of course this employee may very well be wrong, but they did seem to be very familiar with the TF701, whereas many other Best Buy employees seem to have never even heard of it before. Either way, it has definitely been available long enough to be in stores by now! This leads me to believe that the employee I questioned was correct. If it never makes it to store shelves for hands-on experiences, that's bad news for the TF701...

I am a new Tmo customer and wanting the N6, was with you all refreshing and trying to preorder last week. I am in a torn on what I want to do right now, trying to figure out if I even want to try to order from google today or Tmo next wed.
?'s (1) Is Play store support that much better then Tmo's support???
(2) How are Tmo's online orders. Want a midnight blue 64gb, so I will have to order online.
(3) Does anyone know when orders usually go live online at tmo?
(4) Thinking I want to insure phone, is Jump better then off carrier options for insurance and what are some good options there?
I'm sure there are many other things to consider, so I'm basically trying to start a conversation on pros and cons of each route. Tmo is releasing next wed, so wondering if I'm being an impulsive, impatient child trying to order today. I have absolutely zero experience ordering from tmo or google.

1.) Depends if you want to ship your device in for RMA or not. With tmo support you get an overnight replacement same as google.
2.) Not sure when their online orders go live but if you want that version online should be fine unless their servers get bogged by users. I believe the iPhone release broke their servers . you can also call them and then can order it for you
3.) Jump offers you extended warranty past the one year google offers. Which means after the year if they still have return devices to send you they can send them to you if you have issues with your phone. Jump also allows you to trade in that device for another in the future . I'd still research other insurance providers in case you are looking for other things. I never order online and rather walk u to a store just because if something wrong happens I can walk right in, get it exchanged for a new one without having to wait for another in the mail. Also I can just pay for it same day and use it same day.

Thinking I need to just wait. There are a lot of other factors that lean me towards waiting too. I already have our tax exempt status registered through tmobile, with google, have to pay tax then send stuff in to get it refunded afterwards. Was thinking about ordering through google and then just canceling if able to preorder through tmo that day. Seems to me like, other than being able to relax and know you have one ordered, there is no real advantage to ordering from google as opposed to tmo.

Also depending on if they do it , most online orders are free shipping .

Are the carrier versions the same at the google play store version like the N5 was? I want to just go through TMobile too but don't want any bloatware on it.

Yes and No....I think.....From what I have taken from around the web, android 5.0 lets carriers install their apps automatically when their particular sim is inserted, however, it is my understanding that these can be deleted as well.
So my understanding is, both phones are the same, they only change once the sim is put in it. So if tmo n6's come with sim already in it, then they may come with bloat, but it will be able to be deleted. I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination, so, I could be mistaken here, but this is how I interpreted what I have read.

Correct. The only app downloaded on our N6 is My T-Mobile when you turn on your device. It is deletable though.

anyone hear any info on a 100% positive release date in stores? from what everyone is saying and this http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/news/t...-to-its-data-strong-network-this-november.htm posted in tmobiles official blog site, november 12th seems to be the day. but i called about 10 different tmobile stores in pittsburgh today and none of them can give a definitive answer as to the 12th being the day that stores will begin to sell them. the nexus 4 and 5 were both sold out on their respective release dates in stores here and i don't want to miss out on it once again. i'm hoping that a pre-order will go live or they will notify me before then. 2 stores that i called actually told me that they would go live on tmobile.com on the 12th but stores won't be getting them until the 15th or 16th(saturday or sunday) which basically tells me that they don't know what they're talking about. i'm itching to use my jump upgrade and i'm not completely decided on whether i'm getting the note 4 or nexus 6. i guess i'll wait this out a little longer.

There is no way that stores will have it available before Google ships those pre-orders. The Galaxy Gear S was suppose to release today to all carriers but after checking with 4 local T-Mobile stores in my area none had it yet. So I really highly doubt they'll have it on the 12th.

Called two stores. They'll have it the 12th. Tmonews released leaked roadmap and it was Aldo on the 12th. It could be google has plans to ship pre orders to arrive in the 12th. There's also a rumor the ota for other devices starts on the 12th.

Cool so when you grab one take pics and come on here and post them. You'll have it before the rest of use that pre-ordered on the Playstore.
