Atrix HD reception vs HTC - Motorola Atrix HD

I have an HTC One X and my wife has a Moto X, both on Airvoice. Her signal strength is typically 10-12 db better than mine. May get an Atrix as a backup. Just curious if the Motorola radios are typically better than HTC.

Honestly, it's hard to make broad, sweeping generalizations with regards to signal strength across a brand and it's very unlikely that someone will be able to comment on your exact situation simply because it's fairly unique. However, I will tell you that yes, Motorola generally does have pretty good signal strength on most of their devices because they are the kings of radio. With that being said, the Atrix HD isn't the best phone in the world and you might regret it if you are used to having a smooth experience on your One X. I have no clue what the experience on the One X is like and the Moto X is pretty affordable off contract, you might be best to look into that option and just have the same setup as your wife.

I am. I have high hopes for it. Whether or not it gets good support like the AHD is TBD. Hopefully it at least gets ROOT
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
I'd consider getting it second hand in 6 months + if it had SD support. For me, spec wise, AHD is all I really need in a phone. Next phone I get will be something like an AHD with a keyboard.
/Conspiracy Theory
I've noticed that as smart phones became better and better, the amount of phones with keyboards decreased. Me thinks they don't make many now-a-days because most people wouldn't have a need for a netbook or a laptop if a phone as powerful and big as the AHD had a keyboard.

I completely agree about the SD slot.
Also, the Photon Q is kinda like an AHD with a keyboard.

What are your thoughts about support and development for the moto x? I wonder if root will be easily obtained...
Sent from my MB886 using xda premium
Definitely will not purchase Motorola X. While Motorola phones Have very good build quality. I believe the hardware to be subpar compared to samsung and htc. The motoblur Interface on Atrix HD is a big improvement over that of Atrix 4g. which is a big step in the right direction . However Motorola has with both phones shown that it does not support updates as well as its competitors. for example atrix 4g support ended at android 2.3.6 and atrix Hd support ended at android 4.1.1. Add to this that Motorola Locks Bootloaders Making customization difficult . NO THANKS!

Depends on the bootloader status. If unlockable, then it will pick up really fast...if not, probably similar to us or the Defy -- depends on how easy it will be to root. Even locked, if its rooted there's a good chance it'll run ports of our roms.

Agreed. Though hardware is a moot point since most apps hardly support dual core, let alone quad and otca core phones. With Moto I don't even consider OEM support as a factor since I expect it to be next to nothing from the start. Moto releases OS updates as new devices.... My next phone will probably be HTC or Sony -- both have good OEM features, OEM support, and community support. I'm leaning towards Sony, only because I've never once bought a bad Sony product or had a Sony product break or go bad that wasn't directly related to me abusing the hell out of it.....usually because I drop them.

I dunno. Whatever Sony has next year that I can afford when I decide to upgrade the AHD.
I'm really interested in the Moto X. I like the look of some of the feature, notifications and active mic. My next upgrade is in Feb, so I'll make a decision at that time. However, I have heard rumor of a Moto Nexus coming (that was the leak rumor last week), if that is true, I may go for that off contract. I know everybody has different opinions on hardware and specs, but the Atrix HD is my 7th Moto phone (2nd android based), and outside of one poor flip phone, they have all been top notch.
I agree with skeevy theory...
as time pass, and android being better each by each year
The company's have been excluding sliding keyboards
I remember when the Samsung epic 4g came out I was thrilled to see a good phone for fast texting and typing emails
As I prefer a phone like the AHD with a sliding keyboard regardless of thickness of the phone
Not much of a big deal
Just like old non-android LG xenon

Probably a Sony phone as long as they keep micro SD. That feature being implemented or not is very telling about a companies true understanding of it's users. I prefer companies that allow storage expansion.

Provided you can unlock the X's boot loader, then it'll probably be on par with us in no time at all. If locked, it might run ports of our roms if it is rooted and a rom flash method like SafeStrap is made.
If I were considering getting one, I'd wait a week to a month to see what's up with it, its quirks, and how much the community will support it.
@ai6908
Agreed. Though I think X is a mass beta program designed to test out new features for the Nexus line -- the low power cpu cores for always on microphone, the active display. Still, no SD = no Buy. As is, I haven't been able to use any cell radio internet for 3 weeks because I'm 50MB away from overage charges. Until phones either come with 64GB+ or the Phone Companies up the allotted bandwidth to at least 10GB a month, then external storage will still be necessary. The "Cloud" is useless with current Data Plans and 16-32GB isn't that much storage, especially once you start to consider Nandroids, Titanium Backups, music, a movie or three for a long trip, other roms, pictures, and the list goes on and on.

Vote with your dollar! My feelings exactly. I give Samsung their props for continuing support for SDs and giving consumers what they want (incl. removable battery) Seems like everyone these days is going the other route.
Locked storage capacity + free cloud storage, it's all "politics" from my POV really and I'm not going to support it.

I agree that no SD is a big drawback...but cloud is one of the reason why google phones do not have SD. Only nexus 1 was the only nexus phone with a SD card i think! Well,,,thats the way google goes....i dont know if we have any say to it...unless samsung comes up with its own OS...
I was hopeful for the motorola x but after looking the specs and the fact that doesn't have a external SD I am thinking the Sony honami is my next phone.

I try to not get too caught up in the spec war. Look at crapple.....as much as it pains me to say this, they have low specs but they do an excellent job with optimization. So well that they can keep up with some of the new flagship phones.
I think the motoX will deliver a great user experience. And that's what it's all about. I'm not too fond of the no SD card.
I'll still be getting the 32gb model.

Verizon Moto X or Droid MAXX!?

Planning to get either phone. Also considering Galaxy S4 + HTC One. Time is not of essence, good phone is. I want performance, megapixels (Camera) and long battery life. Right now edge is Droid MAXX. Interestingly I don't see a forum for the new Droid MAXX/Ultra on VZW which is already released. Also the phone MUST be globally capable as I travel and like to use AT&T/T-mobile SIM's from time to time.

I'm in the same boat. Really want the battery life of the maxx and wireless charging ability. In fact really for me the only downfall of the maxx is the capacitive buttons. I really like the soft on screen buttons. Don't know if that will bug the heck out of me or not. I think I will at least play with both and make my final decision.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
If you want Development, there is going to be a lot more people getting the Moto X since it's on all of the major US carriers. Just be sure to get a Developer Edition
Add me to the list of the undecided. I still have the Galaxy S4 on my short list. Im leaning towards the Maxx for the aforementioned reasons.
The development issue has me balking at the Maxx though. That and some of the issues reported with last years Droid Razr Maxx HD. I know this SOC is different, but some of the sluggishness reported on the Razr Maxx after using them for a while has be wondering if i shouldnt wait a month or so.
Was an early adopter of the Droid X and its been my only phone for over 3 years. Still going for now running VXLR 2.2.0, but im seriously overdue for a new phone. I tend to hang onto phones for at least 2 years or more, so i want something i can ROM when and if it starts bogging down or i just want better features.
At the bare minimum id like to get root access on the Maxx. I guess its still a little too soon to know if that will happen. Anyone have any thoughts or a best guess on whether root will be achievable on the Maxx?
I'm completely in the same boat. My renewal just came up. The X seems like a good phone, but it seems very similar to the Maxx and I would love to have the Maxx's battery life. The X/Maxx/etc have virtually the same specs. All of them have the same screen type that I dislike, I prefer the soft buttons so Maxx/Ultra are one down for that, no sd card (minor as I have a nexus right now), non-removable battery (minor but annoying).
I do love the HTC one, similar issues, I like the screen better & love the speakers in the front, because well its nice they are directed AT me, but the camera is weak and HTC hasn't been know for its quality in the last several phones it released.
The S4 is a possibility, my co-worker has it and loves it. The note 3 is coming out soon but that phone is massive! lol
What to do, what to do. If I had any choice I would really love another nexus, but alas that ship has long sailed and is most likely never coming back.
The two major differences comes down to screen size and battery life. Maxx has a slightly larger screen size and double the quoted battery life for mixed use. Personally, screen sizes are getting out of control so MotoX is an easy pick.
From what i read and experienced
Battery life:
MAXX > S4 > Moto X > One
Design:
One > Moto X > S4/MAXX
Screen:
One/S4 > Moto X > MAXX
Storage:
S4 > One > MAXX > Moto X
Camera:
S4 > One > MAXX/Moto X

I disagree with the battery life that S4 is better than MotoX. Yes, the S4 has a 400mAh larger battery, but that is offset by the larger screen and higher resolution that requires more juice. The MotoX mainly comes short in 3G talk time. But let's face it, most people don't really spend a lot of time talking on their phones. We mainly use it for non-talk stuff (email, texting, music, video, etc), which is where the MotoX excels. Life all battery life tests, none of them matter because it depends on actual user.
Also the HTC One and MotoX should be tied for design as they both worthy for different reasons. Aluminum body on the HTC One is pretty sleek, while the motomaker and build quality on the MotoX makes plastic look expensive.
True. If it's not the MAXX, battery life is all pretty much the same. As for the the design, i agree with you, but i also took into consideration the speaker design, I.E. the front facing goodness

Was waiting for the X this hole time. I went and took a look at the MAXX yesterday and went ahead and picked it up. Awesome device!!!!
Feels really solid. Great battery. External speaker is kick butt for a small speaker. Like the 5" screen.
Why is there not a Droid Maxx forum yet?
Someone else recently brought this up - why isn't there a Verizon Droid Maxx Forum yet? I see today they put a Verizon HTC One forum in, and that's not even out yet?!
I'm planning on going with the Maxx for battery life. If this had soft keys I'd be 150% sure, but right now am about 90%.
Yeah it's a little odd there is no section yet... Unless they are tying it in this one because the four phones are practically the same but that would be weird and you'd think they would state that.

If people is deciding to grab the Moto X and not pick up one of the new Droids up because of the possibility of no development because of the locked bootloader..if I remember correctly, the Verizon and ATT Moto X has locked bootloaders too. And since the new droids and the Moto X devices is so similar, I would assume that they have a similar bootloader and maybe even all locked down the same.

I am surprised there is no conversation on the LG G2 coming. I am ready to part with the DNA due to battery and wanting the latest. Tempted by the Maxx but I had the earlier version and Moto is just boring. Then I get stuck flashing and ignoring my wife. The Maxx is heavy compared to the S4 or LG by 20%. Had the S4 and took it back since I wasn't in love with all the gimmicky stuff and it was just okay. Think Sense is better. Today I just decided to wait for the LG with the larger battery and slightly larger screen. Still tempted to go toy with the Maxx since no one does battery better.

HTC one or LG G2

I got invited to LGs city tour in Seattle where I will be given a G2 for free. But I don't know if I want to give up my HTC one soon. I've only had it a few months. It's been such a great device! Never had a big issue with the low light tint. Everything about the device has always worked flawlessly with me. It's such a beast and I love that it has 2 speakers and they are on the front of the phone. It's came in handy so many times. Basically the HTC one is one of the best handsets out there. In my opinion the best available for sprint.
I'm torn between giving that up next month for the g2. In your opinions what would you do? The specs of the g2 are obviously much better than the one in every way including the battery. But it's also LG. They don't have a great history with high end devices. They released their first one barely over a year ago. It did great. Got rated the highest of it's time. I used to have the device and I loved it. The camera could have been better but with the HTC one having similar specs to the optimus g I clearly chose the HTC one.
Sorry for rambling lol I'm just curious what you guys think.
Additionally: the people over in the optimus g threads are great with getting working leaks way before sprint drops the official OTA. I've noticed with the One it's not as easy as nothing for the sprint version is ever leaked and shared to us here. It's been teased by a few but never shared. LG wins in that area.

I was struggling with this aswell..... i decided to get the one, better build quality, better sound, great devo community. the g2 on the other hand uses triband lte which would be nice while i was working so i could have slightly better lte. however looking at the build quality on the g2 and the back buttons pretty much made my mind up.
I'd go with the G2. The only thing wrong with it is it has a very ugly skin.
I'm an One owner.
g2 has
better camera
faster processor
One has
better build quality (and style for that matter)
better speakers
cant talk and surf interwebs on g2...... on the one you can. unless your on wifi than with the g2 you can
The One does not have SVDO, unless I missed something.

Can only do this while on LTE... just like all the other phones. Very few sprint phones can use 3G and talk at the same time.
I SAY G2, only because its triband lte. that way you are set for the future when smr 800 mhz lte is live in your area and the band 41 lte goes online as well
if their gonna give it to you for free take it say thank you and sell or give to me if you don't want to use it.

I haven't seen any complaints so I'm assuming it's great like any other Motorola.
Yes it's good.
Wi-fi is a little spotty, but cell reception is good.
WiFi is on par with my old S3, LTE is a bit better. I haven't been in any 3G or 1x only areas yet.

I'll be honest I love the droid turbo. but my 4g really isnt reliable. Ive had much better on other phones. Theres a lot of areas that pose a complete dead zone for the turbo where it excelled for my s4. Sadly i think the service is weaker than older devices I've had. realistically I cant complain I'm not paying a dime for this phone. My verizon pays 25 bucks a month for edge... and well thats exactly the price of my droid. Free droid turbo? complaints? im sorry i cant.
Not as reliable as my Razr M. The Turbo says it has better service, but for some reason will have trouble sending texts where the M wouldn't. But it's a lot better than my buddy's S4, and my GF's iPhone 5s
My signal bars dont read as high but the phone seams to receive as well as my Moto Maxx. A little better then A note 4 about the same as LG G3. I live in a fringe area zip code 23921 USA
my wifi used to drop in the house the first couple days, hasnt done that the past few though. phone signal is pretty good though, voice quality and volume is good (just turn off the equalizer), LTE speed is also pretty good, Im getting 50/40 for speeds.
Pretty solid. I commute from riverside ca to San Diego ca every day. It never drops
It's been pretty good. Better than my One (M7) at holding signal. Much better than my old GNEX. At work I'm stuck with 3G because of walls but it's better than my Moto G (Verizon Prepay) and I can even get 4G when I move to the corner offices.
It's really good on my end as well.
Same here. Better than my lg g3.

Thanks for the replies! I currently have an iPhone 5S. Hoping the signal is better at work.
Can someone compare it to the first gen. Moto X's signal reception? I'm using it right now and I miss how stable my 3G signal was when I had a Samsung (the only thing I miss about that phone. )

Nexus 6 signal/reception quality vs Note 4

Hello All,
I am a dissatisfied Note 4 owner. My wife has a moto x (2nd gen) and side by side, hers is faster and blows my Note 4 out of the water in terms of cell phone reception. I live in rural TN and reception is like gold many times. I am looking at getting a different phone with a better reception and I am on the fence between the LG G4 and the Nexus 6.
My question is: Is the Nexus 6 phone reception just as good as the Moto X or the LG G4? I know from first hand experience how good the Moto X is and I would like something along this line of phone quality. Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Like you, I owned a note 4. I disliked many things about the phone, but the two main things that got me to sell it were the unacceptable speed, and poor cell reception.
I replaced it with a nexus 6, and im now way happier with both the speed and signal strength.
I remember looking into the signal strength issue at the time, and found that the moto x uses some fancy antenna tech to achieve better than average signal strength, and I believe that the same antenna design is used for the nexus 6. I certainly have no regrets about swapping
