Hello All,
I am a dissatisfied Note 4 owner. My wife has a moto x (2nd gen) and side by side, hers is faster and blows my Note 4 out of the water in terms of cell phone reception. I live in rural TN and reception is like gold many times. I am looking at getting a different phone with a better reception and I am on the fence between the LG G4 and the Nexus 6.
My question is: Is the Nexus 6 phone reception just as good as the Moto X or the LG G4? I know from first hand experience how good the Moto X is and I would like something along this line of phone quality. Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Like you, I owned a note 4. I disliked many things about the phone, but the two main things that got me to sell it were the unacceptable speed, and poor cell reception.
I replaced it with a nexus 6, and im now way happier with both the speed and signal strength.
I remember looking into the signal strength issue at the time, and found that the moto x uses some fancy antenna tech to achieve better than average signal strength, and I believe that the same antenna design is used for the nexus 6. I certainly have no regrets about swapping

That's what I was hoping to hear.
Thanks

Yes, the N6 phone reception is as good as the MotoX 2014, particularly in weak signal areas.

Ok, I have a question for everyone out there..
I currently have a Galaxy Nexus and am qualified for an upgrade on Verizon... I was thinking about the HTC One, but the Moto X software (near stock + moto features), but comparing the specs, the Moto X specs are very very similar to that which I already have on the GNex. My question is whether it is really worth the $ to upgrade from a Galaxy Nexus to the Moto X?
Thanks!
Kaz
Watch some reviews on youtube or read some articles. You will soon realise that its far superior

Trust me, the specs are not similar at all. This is the best performing phone I've ever owned, and I had both the GS4 and the HTC One.

Speaking as someone who has owned a Gnex you won't be disappointed unless you're a flashaholic. I had the GSM Gnex so it was a little bit different than the Verizon model but close enough for comparison sake. The X is faster, has better battery life, and just feels better in your hand. Even though the screen is the same size it feels smaller. The connection quality is better both radio and wifi-wise. Camera-wise I haven't taken enough pictures to say.
The Galaxy Nexus and this phone aren't playing in the same league. About the only thing similar between them is that they both offer a stock UI experience. There's just no comparison otherwise. For the record, the Moto X is also noticeably better and faster than the Nexus 4, which I had since November last year, so please don't make the same mistake as the uninformed. Just because its 2 cores vs 2 cores, doesn't mean they're on the same playing field. Its like saying the Intel Core-i7 haswell processor is on par with the Core 2 Quad from a few years ago.
Take everything you think you know about specs and forget it. On paper this phone is a ho hum mid range device, but that's the only place that description holds water. This phone is easily the best device on the market today. The only two things I miss about the one I've replaced with the Moto X are the viewability of the screen when outdoors and the superior front facing stereo speakers. This phone is fast, sips battery, and feels great in my hands. I absolutely love it and have no regrets replacing my one with it

awesome. thanks, guys!
Far far far superior than the Gnex!
I love my moto x over my gnex.
Gotta agree with everyone. This thing is hands down the best phone I've owned.

it is leagues better than the gnex.. battery alone blows it out of the water
I agree with all the comments here. There really is no comparison. I have been very impressed. Perhaps most noticeable to me is how quick the Chrome browser is. It was a dog on my GNex.

Many moons ago I owned the original Droid X. I always thought that phone had better reception compared to other phones at the time. I was wondering how the new moto X stacks up compared to the competition. Does anyone have a moto X, and possibly other phones (GS4, HTC One, N4, Xperia Z), that can do a signal strength comparison? Also, how is the voice quality?
I have only had my Verizon Motorola x for a day but compared to the GNex the radios are awesome. I can't really speak against other phones though.
Wi-Fi strength is double for me with both bars and speedtests.
4g strength is good as well. I'm getting signal where I wasn't and stronger signal all around.
Anything is better than the gnex, it was horrible! Seems good, on par with the DNA I had and I always admire HTC radios. GPS is very good.

The signal is actually VERY good. I get LTE in areas where my S3, S4, Iphone 5 and Nexus 4 never did. Still does not beat my S2 i9100 though, that phone had legendary signal. I'm talking long phone convos on the underground subway, where 99% of phones have no signal.
I have been hyped for this phone since I heard about it and ive been extremely tempted to get rid of my nexus 4 and grab this phone, the camera issues seem to be over exagerated from what i can see and some say that the nexus cam is bad and I thought it was okay. Any thoughts from anyone using this phone coming from the nexus 4? The main draw for me is battery life, Im lucky if I can get 15 hours of battery life total, with maybe 1-2 hours of screen on time..
If you're OK with the nexus 4 and its lack of LTE, stick with that. This camera has been frustrating me with its lack of exposure control/focus. I'd wait to see how they're going to improve the camera before ditching the N4. If had both and I think the only reason the Moto X wins is Verizon's LTE coverage.

I never had the Nexus 4, and I'm certainly no camera junkie, but I love this phone. I came from the Galaxy Nexus, so any phone is an upgrade, really. I was happy with the gnex camera, and I'm even more happy with the Moto X camera.
Get the Moto x and never look back. My n4 is now an mp3 player. Moto x battery life is insane and the phone is much smoother than the n4.

My main concern is battery life, what were you guys getting on the n4 vs the x?
I can double screen on time versus my nexus 4

I'm a N4 owner and just like you, my main concern is battery life.
I haven't yet decided whether I should go for the Moto X or wait for the next Nexus and see what's coming up.
Tough decision
Im very much leaning towards getting one on sprint tomorrow if best buy is going to pricematch amazon when I go to get rid of my old iphone tomorrow. I just have one last question, does the moto x have a notification LED or is it purely done with the active notifications?
It is done through active notifications no LED

Battery life on the Moto X is beyond good. 6 hrs screen time. A bit less if on LTE instead of wifi, but still way better than the Nexus 4

I haven't been getting that at all. Yesterday I was at 13 hours on battery 2 hours of screen time with 3% left. It is almost exactly the same as my Nexus 4. I don't play games or watch videos either, pretty much just texting, hangouts, whatsapp, Reddit.
I had to go pick one up today, So far I think this thing is amazing, I love the feel of it and I actually like the vibration on it. If this battery is as good as everyone says ill be thrilled.
I'm a n4 owner thinking of going to moto x too, for the battery life and better optimization and amoled screen non pentile.
Just pulled the trigger on eBay for 495.00 with a case and protector. The moto website kept placing holds on my credit card but not putting the purchase through so I gave up on Motorola selling it to me. My n4 is going to the wife and she is a happy camper to be switching from her nexus s. Looking forward to checking out this device soon
I have an HTC One X and my wife has a Moto X, both on Airvoice. Her signal strength is typically 10-12 db better than mine. May get an Atrix as a backup. Just curious if the Motorola radios are typically better than HTC.

Honestly, it's hard to make broad, sweeping generalizations with regards to signal strength across a brand and it's very unlikely that someone will be able to comment on your exact situation simply because it's fairly unique. However, I will tell you that yes, Motorola generally does have pretty good signal strength on most of their devices because they are the kings of radio. With that being said, the Atrix HD isn't the best phone in the world and you might regret it if you are used to having a smooth experience on your One X. I have no clue what the experience on the One X is like and the Moto X is pretty affordable off contract, you might be best to look into that option and just have the same setup as your wife.
I haven't seen any complaints so I'm assuming it's great like any other Motorola.
Yes it's good.
Wi-fi is a little spotty, but cell reception is good.
WiFi is on par with my old S3, LTE is a bit better. I haven't been in any 3G or 1x only areas yet.

I'll be honest I love the droid turbo. but my 4g really isnt reliable. Ive had much better on other phones. Theres a lot of areas that pose a complete dead zone for the turbo where it excelled for my s4. Sadly i think the service is weaker than older devices I've had. realistically I cant complain I'm not paying a dime for this phone. My verizon pays 25 bucks a month for edge... and well thats exactly the price of my droid. Free droid turbo? complaints? im sorry i cant.
Not as reliable as my Razr M. The Turbo says it has better service, but for some reason will have trouble sending texts where the M wouldn't. But it's a lot better than my buddy's S4, and my GF's iPhone 5s
My signal bars dont read as high but the phone seams to receive as well as my Moto Maxx. A little better then A note 4 about the same as LG G3. I live in a fringe area zip code 23921 USA
my wifi used to drop in the house the first couple days, hasnt done that the past few though. phone signal is pretty good though, voice quality and volume is good (just turn off the equalizer), LTE speed is also pretty good, Im getting 50/40 for speeds.
Pretty solid. I commute from riverside ca to San Diego ca every day. It never drops
It's been pretty good. Better than my One (M7) at holding signal. Much better than my old GNEX. At work I'm stuck with 3G because of walls but it's better than my Moto G (Verizon Prepay) and I can even get 4G when I move to the corner offices.
It's really good on my end as well.
Same here. Better than my lg g3.

Thanks for the replies! I currently have an iPhone 5S. Hoping the signal is better at work.
Can someone compare it to the first gen. Moto X's signal reception? I'm using it right now and I miss how stable my 3G signal was when I had a Samsung (the only thing I miss about that phone. )
