S4 Active Softbricked when trying to go from NC9 to ML2 - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two rooted s4 actives on stock rooted 4.4.2. Had no problems until recently it's been every day I get a nagging message about an ota being available. I can't seem to disable the ota check or Knox on kit Kat. The ota is for my firmware, apparently I'm a version behind but the phones work fine so I really don't want to fix what isn't broken. Any way to block these messages and the forced reboots? The updates fail every time but it's really annoying.

I think you mean you're on 4.4.2, maybe the NC9 firmware? If you are you have 2 options:
Delete, freeze, or rename wssyncmldm.apk and wssyncmldm.odex to disable OTA updates
Update to NE3 using the ML2 firmware and the NE3 OTA. You can re-root afterwards with towelroot, but make sure you back stuff up with Titanium Backup because the process will completely wipe your phone.

Yeah 4.4.2 typo fail. I'll check again but last time with my root file Explorer I could only find the .odex file.

I admit I'm fairly new to this phone. I know how to flash the ML2 firmware via ODIN. Now once that is sent to the phone, I leave it stock, if I go to settings -> More -> About Device -> Click "Software Update" Will that download the NE3 OTA? Both my phones are currently on NC9 firmware, I have no issues but my wife has some odd problems with her phone. So if I have to go to stock unrooted and reroot that's fine I'll do what I have to - I just want to make sure I know what I need to do before I start.

When trying to flash ML2 files ODIN fails every time. Is it possible to go from NC9 to ML2? I've installed the drivers from Samsung, it detects the phone in ODIN but it can't write to it.

Also tried on another desktop same results. At this point I'm a bit desperate as it's my only phone.

Flash everything but the bootloader and you'll be fine. Since you're on 4.4.2, you can't downgrade the bootloader back to 4.3, that's why it's failing.

if you don't mind posting, what was the hangup at your first attempt ? Too many files for Odin at first or something else ?
am trying to help out someone who appears to have the same problem as you did.

It was the bootloader. When the phone is upgraded to 4.4.2 it's boot loader can't go down from that. So the bootloader from ML2 is incompatible. When I flashed the other three files it worked just fine! Then I applied the patch to get the phone to the latest firmware. It's a .cfg file you rename it to update.zip and put it on the sd card. boot into the stock recovery and install the update. I must admit a few glitches I was having are gone now since upgrading to the latest greatest, and Towelroot made it stupid easy to root.

Ok, good to know, will pass on the information, thank you.

[Q] Galaxy note root queries

Hello,
Now I am sure this forum gets it's fair share people completely oblivious to rooting and such. The issue is I have bought a Galaxy note and have had it for 4 wonderful months so far. It's unlocked, i.e not bound to a network.
2 months in I tried rooting my phone, and well it was very clear and simple (through the youtube video, linking to here). A month later I also got Kies to finally work and updated my phone kernel, unfortunately I had no idea that with that the root disappears. I went to try and get my apps to work in the university which have their own proxy setting to access the net (which I have finally gotten used to), the apps however do not work and thus the need for me to root my phone.
The query (I apologize for the long winded post):
I currently have the kernel version
2.6.35.7-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701
Ok so I am aware that I will be looking for kernels portraying the LC1 version when rooting, however it seems that there is no easy way of rooting (as the youtube video I watched) for my current specific kernel.
I just would like someone if possible to guide me exactly with what to do, do I really need to root my phone or is there a way to get apps to go through proxy without rooting again?
Also, how would I root my phone this time? What files would I be loooking for and how simple >.> are they.
Thank you again for your time,
I would appreciate any help, but I beg of you please keep it as simple as possible xD
You have updated your note with Kies, so you lost Root. Kies/OTa update erases root.
Anyway, now you have option is to downgrade
You can find any older directly rootable ROM from here N Root as you did it earlier.
After rooting, dont use kies/OTA to update.
just use same thread (as shown above) to find latest ROM, N update using CWM OR Moble Odin Pro.
wheres cwm?
Hey doc. I followed all your instructions and all is well but i was just wondering how do i get cwm back? I have updated the kernal and the phone is still rooted but no cwn (mobile odin latest update states that they have removed the inject cwm) so i was wondering if theres anyway to get it back? Thanks in advance

[Q] Complicated situation with I9070 / I9070P

Hello guys,
i'm new in the forum and this is my first entry.
I got quite a complicated situation with my phone... i try to describe this as good as possible.
My brother gave his old phone, a GT-I9070P with GB (v2.3.6) on it and i wanted to upgrade it to a newer firmware. Unfortunatly I haven't had an Android phone in a long time (2 years or so).
Nevertheless i wanted to upgrade it to 4.1.2 stock and use NFC (for programming a little bit).
I asked the father of a friend of mine to upgrade it because he has much more expirience with flashing and all that stuff ..
He said that this is no problem and after a few days he gave it back to me and told me that there were some difficulties but he did it.
Now i got my phone with JB 4.1.2 but when i tried it out, it didn't recognize the SIM card.
I gave it back to him and said, that the SIM wasn't working.
We found out that he flashed a I9070 stock and that the IMEI was "deleted" but he knows a guy how can fix this.
I read in a few forums about this problems and found out that this has got something to do with the modem (baseband / IMEI).
When i got my phone back, the SIM was recognized again.
But now i got a GT-I9070P with I9070 stock firmware (-> NFC not working)
Today i tried to flash two I9070P stock roms with Odin 3.09 but it didn't work out.
(I can post the LOG from Odin if you want)
When i flashed the I9070 stock again, it worked perfectly.
Sorry for the long post but now my actual question:
Is it possible to get a full functional I9070P with working NFC back on the phone?
(To be honest: i don't have any backups or /lib/tee - folders)
Thank you very much for helping me out!
cheers,
MonkeySon

"But now i got a GT-I9070P with I9070 stock firmware" - your phone would be hardbricked if you flashed I9070 firmware on I9070P, so I suppose that is not the case. Did you try to do factory reset after flashing stock firmware for I9070. P.S. We do not have any custom ROM with NFC support as I know.

Thank you for the quick response.
Hm... but this is exactly whats the case right now...
The back of the phone says "I9070P" and i have the backcover with the NFC "antenna" but the the device information says "Model: GT-I9070... Basebandversion: I9070XXLQG"
Okay, i will try that
But even if this works, wouldn't there the problem with the SIM-recognition again?
I know, that's the reason why i wanted to flash the newest stock rom.
I'd try to flash 9070P lib/tee/folder (use temporary recovery or flash any cocore kernel beforehand) - to be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191628 (use version for stock ROMs)

If i get it right you suggest:
- flash CoCore incl. recovery (for I9070)
- install the I9070P tee folder zip on my 9070 stock
What should theoretically happen then - would i be able to use NFC or flash the 9070P stock rom then?

Try to flash cocore for I9070P as your phone is with NFC,then flash that tee folder zip and see if its working. If it is,download stock rom for P vesion from sammobile.com .I dont remember if flashing stock from there will increase count, but you can reset it later.
@shut_down
Now i did a factory reset after flashing the 9070 stock but i got the same error as before while flashing 9070P stock
@Tarola
Well this could possibly be but i don't think that, i trust them
@Force
Okey thanks, i will try that and report later
BTW: flashing stock also increases counter.
well, lets see..
i installed CoCore-EP-8.6-CWM - everything ok
installed 9070PJBlibteefolder.zip via recovery - no problem
restart the phone - restart to download mode and try to flash P rom.
Exact same error as before, in addition to that, the phone is now unable to read my SIM again

yeah... but does anyone know why it stuck?
i don't think it would be the rom.. because this was the case with every 9070P rom i tried so far.
this whole thing is a little mystrey to me to be honest
EDIT:
I got my IMEI and SIM functionality back by flashing the 9070 stock again.
Just in case someone wants to know
I think i'm gonna ask the guy who did this for me how he achieved it, that the phone thinks its another model

[Q] Need

Currently using my first android device! Samsung galaxy note 3 for att and I decided to root it. I am currently running 4.3 but want to update to 4.4 in hopes of fixing some gps issues i've been having. I tried to use ODIN to load up the stock 4.3 firmware but have been encountering some errors. My phone no longer turns on, when it does it says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I have downloaded keys 3 and tried to recover it using that but no luck. Am willing to post screens or answer any questions you guys may have!.
Are you on 4.4.2 or 4.3? If you're on 4.3, have you tried the MJ5 restore posted in the general section?

Im on 4.3. I've only tried using Odin and kies which have both failed me. what im about to try is "androidrootz.com/2013/10/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-note-3.html".. can you link to your suggestion?
I'm not sure how to copy/paste links with Tapatalk, but if you go to the general sub form for the AT&T Note 3 on this website it should be on the first page. Look for a thread titled "MJ5 restore and optionally provides root" or something along those lines. It's a somewhat long process that can be intimidating at first, but if you read the directions and follow them exactly you should be good to go.

So here's my problem. I bought my Note 4 (SM-N910T3) with 5.1.1 and rooted. As soon as 6.0.1 released, I downloaded and flashed and then rooted a little later. I started having some small issues because of the root so I did some research and found a systemless root method on XDA that was a possible solution. At some point, probably from flashing MM, my Baseband and Bootloader got updated to the newest at the time. That was fine at the time but I starting missing some of the features of 5.1.1 that got removed in the update. So now I'm looking at iB4STiD's Rapture ROM which is build upon stock 5.1.1 but I've hit a pretty major wall. No matter what I try, how many times, I cannot flash anything through Odin, besides 6.0.1 that I haven't tried. iB4STiD provides the Baseband and Bootloader files to flash with his ROM which are for my specific model.
Now, I've read in a couple places that you can't downgrade your bootloader but that sounds weird to me so maybe someone can explain more if that's correct. Now for some info:

Now this is what comes up when I attempt to flash:

I am at the end here and mentally exhausted so if anybody can give some guidance or advice then that would be awesome. Let me know if you need more info!

Used the official USB cable of the note 4. I had to borrow my step dad's USB to successfully get the thing back working.

Yep I tried 4 different cables and different ports, including 2 OEM samsung cables that came from my Note 4 and an older phone. Nothing.

You can't downgrade T3 via ODIN once you upgrade to MM. So basically you are stuck with latest bootloader.

Yea that's what I was afraid of. My next issue though is I can't seem to flash ANYTHING via Odin. I even tried a stock rom that matched my current bootloader and it gave me the same error.

Use PhoneInfo application from Playstor to check your exact bootloader version and post it here. The error from your 1st post shows only when you try to downgrade.
I believe I've got the same problem (N910T, I tried to downgrade to 5.1.1 so that I can install Rapture v8.2), except in Odin it stops at system.img.ext4 then fails. I tried restoring with my backup through TWRP but now it's giving me this:
extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR=255
Basically I'm stuck with Odin and TWRP, I have the 5.1.1 firmware which doesn't work, and I'm currently downloading the 6.0.1 firmware and hopefully I'll be able to get it working again after this 2.2GB file finishes downloading with my 10mb/s internet -.-

Please help - Sorry if this is the place

Hi folks,
I friend of mine have this phone that is stuck in Odin mode. The problem is that none of the "press and hold keys" commands work and the phone just reboots into Odin every time. She has "tons" of Pictures of her first born Child on the device, without any cloud backup! :crying:
Any suggestions what to try next?
What i have done so far:
Trying all the "press and hold keys"
Letting the battery drain out and the hook up the Power to it... When connecting Power the screen turns White for 15-20 minutes and then if i reboot it, it goes back to Odin/download mode...
Is it possible that opening the phone and removing the battery could work?

I am no expert, just going to suggest what I would try, hopefully someone may know what to do exactly.
You could try downloading stock filmware from Sammobile or updato (making sure to at least flash the same filmware build or higher, or Odin won't flash it) if you use the "home csc" csc file, it should not wipe the data on the phone, and what I hope may fix the phone not booting.
First of all you should have mentioned the model no. Second, you can try flashing the stock firmware from sammobile. Now, the tricky part is, if prior to this soft brick the phone was on a custom rom or had been rooted, then flashing the firmware alone won't bring the device back to life, a factory reset will be needed after flashing stock firmware, which doesnt seems like a favorable option considering that the data on device is important. There can be other ways to fix this without losing the data but for that illl need to know the device details.
Oh and btw, opening the device and messing with the battery won't help at all. Don't do that.

Its an Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F)
The only thing i can see in the display is
https:// imgshare.io/image/odin-2.U7KCu
We dont know what firmware was beeing used Before this, it´s not custom or rooted tho. I assume its the latest official tho
I grabbed the latest from Sammobile, N950FXXU7DSJ1_N950FCKH7DSJ1_HTS
I could try the above suggestions but what about trying to flash the BL? Could it not be the BL that is cuppupt somehow?
I did try and flash the BL now but Odin software says:
<ID:0/004> Odin engine v(ID:3.1301)..
<ID:0/004> File analysis..
<ID:0/004> Total Binary size: 7 M
<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..

<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004>
<ID:0/004> There is no PIT partition.

So it seems the partitions are gone, @stinka318. Next, where do i find PIT-files?
Found PIT file but it failed.
Also tried CSC flash but it fails (looks like Odin might not cennect to the device (ID:COM 0: [COM4])

Driver related? i have the Samsung USB drivers installed….
https://zfirmware.com/download-samsung-galaxy-note-8-pit-file/
Seems like it's a kernel problem, or maybe the phone IMEI reported stolen?
Have you tried installing custom binaries? TWRP maybe?
Or messing with OEM unlock found in Developer Options?
Most of the for solving such problem, you have to flash the exact same firmware found on phone before the problem.
Try rooting using odin and then twrp and thenflashing a custom firmware..... That could help..... Just a thought.... Wipe everything except internal storage

Try flashing this via odin through AP.
