i was wondering if our o2x is really doing multitasking.
because when im playing youtube then switch to facebook, when i go back to youtube, it was paused then will be doing the buffering again.
same on browser, when i am watching video on it, when i switch to different app, when i go back to browser, it stopped playing.
is it just me?

Are you on stock or using a custom rom like cm7?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Blame this on the optimus 2x's lack of ram.
Android does allow multitasking, but when there are too many apps running, and free memory gets low, it automatically kills off apps that are minimised.
I find that the original rom is rather inefficient in ram. I am running CM7 KANG by Temasek, and find that apps close in the background much less frequently. On original ROM, just opening one other app would easily close the previous one, while on CM7, I could open a couple of games and still see my web browser/youtube app running.

Flash a custom rom on your phone with an additional ramhack (see my signature Vadonkas KANG kernel) this will give you some extra RAM.
YouTube always pauses the video when you close the app. Same goes for the browser. Has nothing to do with the device. I run MIUI and 32mb ram hack and it still happens..

True. It has more to do with how the app is coded. And in this case, the Youtube app is designed to pause and clear the memory to not waste too much ram by accident.
Another example with the same behavior is Opera Mobile. Using Opera Mini however, you'll notice that it saves your state from wherever you left the app.
thanks guys! i think this is not rom problem. im on cm7 latest temasek kang with vadonka based version kernel. i believe our o2x is really not multitasking. on browser and on youtube app, o2x fail.. im starting to hate this phone. (sigh)

In that case, no phone is really "multitasking", it's litterally a memory management issue.
You can try tidying up your phone and clearing it's cache.
I have tried the galaxy 2 and it's very similar to the o2x, only the camera and the browser are more higher than the dual. I haven't tried the galaxy nexus but I think that this a problem of every smartphone

Run a ram script. Such as v6superscharger. Or if you look through the android developement threads their might be a customized one for our o2x. The scripts change the values so each app is less likely to be killed and ram management is amazingly bretter.

A few posts up I said it has nothing to do with neither the devices' ram nor android memory management. But still everybody gives advice on how to improve this management.
It's the YT app pausing the video and not Android! If Android had something to do with it, it would have closed the app instead of simply pausing the video.
I wonder if some here are incapable of reading..

The OP mentioned that the youtube app buffers again, which shouldn't be the case. The OP should have expected the video to remained paused at that same point and the buffer to not disappear. But the app reloads itself when it gets killed, buffering again.

Just for the record and remind some f you, O2X doesnt do **** for multitasking, ITS THE OS, please keep that in mind (yes we know O2X comes with really crappy software, but if youre here on XDA you probably flashed... I mean fixed that )
Now its true, stock kill apps almost immediately even freaking docs then browser then back to docks... feels like an ithing (even now it doesnt do much multitasking, what it does it saves a preview and when you re-open it shows you the preview instantly but it loads a while, not immetiately responsive), but a custom rom, oh thats a whole new story, best one is CM7/MIUI and even better a custom CM7 kang the best imho
My advice try not multitask with more than 2 app which require heavy ram, like Nova 2 & opera browser, just remember this u won't get any problem.

Hey happy users of the LG Optimus 4X HD, just want to share you this emulator which runs perfectly on our device.
I only tried two games but they are heavy and run pretty smoothly on our device.
I tried : - Dragonball Z Shin Budokai (absolutely fluid)
- PES 2013 (lags sometimes)
There are also a lot of settings so that you can customise your controls.
You can also save and load state easily.
The app is still in beta stage but is being update frequently, the global performance are improved and the list of compatibility gets longer and longer.
Just a little tip : In the settings, Buffered Rendering is ticked by default however if you want get the real and great graphics, untick Buffered Rendering.
Here is the link to the app and its subject : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338818
And here is a second link with a compatibility list : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970933
Hope you'll find the app interesting

i'll give it a try one of these days, iodak for me has issues with stupid baseband wakelock overload also, it's not the lag as much as it's slowmo. it seems to be running at 70-80% of the speed it should run

I dont own this device but i might pick one up soon however i would like to know weather the homescreen lag on xperia z still exists. Many reviewer complain about it but they are running old software versions i guess. So espacially after 4.2 update is there still any lag? And if yes how does it look like if you are running a custom kernel? I really hope there is a way to fix that because i dont want to see it.
I have not experienced any lags continuosly with my homescreen on 4.2.2, but sometimes it i see 1 minimal lag when playing with the homescreen for 2mins or so. compared to Samsung galaxy s4, that s4(my friends device) lags far more than my xperia on 4.2.2.
Yes there are kernels that can even improve the smoothness of the homescreens, but I would suggest you to try another launcher like novalauncher, that never lags at all!
Then it also depends on was apps are running in the background like Facebook etc

I recently installed Real racing on xperia sp but after playing it for sometime it just crashes without any warning and the device is usually a little bit hotter at that particular moment.. this doesnt happens to any other game btw... I am only .257 and currently rooted through doomlord's rooting kit..
graphics are splendid.. i dont know what seems to be the problem.. would love to get feedback on this problem!
I think it is because of overheat. If you make some pauses between races or during a long race for the device to get colder you'll be able to play more time. Any thing you do to keep the phone from overheating will let the game last longer without crashing

I play Real Racing 3 all day and I have never experiences crashes (except when trying to use FPS Meter while playing).
Try clearing all your RAM before playing (killing tasks, etc etc), that's what I do, or you can install RAM Manager and set to Hard Gaming.

Actually I don't play other heavy games so I don't know. It was also crashing on my device but since I blow some fresh air on the back of my device between each race to get it colder, I haven't had crashes anymore. That's why I thought of overheat. Also I found once an app called "prevent overheat" in the running apps just after I played Real Racing 3. Still it may just be a lack of RAM. Or maybe next winter when it's not as hot as now it'll work better
Edit :
I just remembered I also changed ROM to one with other memory management. Maybe that made the difference.
I am also having same issues. Earlier I thought it is due to overheat as I used to play CSR Racing for few minutes & then play RR3. But for last 2 days it crashes as soon as the 1st race, that too when RR3 is the 1st game I play after picking up my phone.
Thanks for the replies guys.. Sorry for the late reply.. I was searching for the solution on my own.. First of all I installed game booster from play.. It gave me a head start of above 10-15 races.. I thought this might do it.. What game booster does is it only frees more ram and shut down processes on its own.. But after 10-15 races.. It crashed so I came to the conclusion that it was a combined problem of ram and overheating.. There should be a solution for overhearing.. I tried removing the back cover while playing and blowing some air.. Lol.. But it isn't that effective.. It just prolongs the crash..

Freeze tasks through titanium.. In developers option.. Check no background activities.. A dn check on don't keep activities.. After all these things I play this game.. But still crash on the first race..
Btw I will try ram management and come back to you on this..

Uh? I've never had any problems with any game. Maybe NFS:MW closing randomly about 2 times but I played that game a lot
I guess you should try and backup your data (and you internal SD Card), reset your phone and see if that helps.
Maybe 1 app is hogging the CPU and RAM...
Good luck

I noticed that sometimes it crashes when I get some notification, if it can help in your investigation...
By the way....where you go when you want to clear RAM?. I cannot found it in my XSP

So after play half of hours and my cars is repairing , it doesn't crash anymore
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
I have updated my SP to 2.245 build version & now I can play RR3 for about 30 mins before the game crashes. I just restart the game & can now play for another 15-20 mins before 2nd crash. Occasional stuttering is also there.
On older versions like 1.257, it used to crash after 15 mins maximum at first. After that, it used to last for one race maximum before crashing again.
So I can say that 2.245 update has solved the issue to a large extent.
I recently bought an SP and I love it except for the ff problems i've encountered so far:
- Walkman app, stops playing after a while, specifically when I'm multitasking. Walkman + Instagram etc.
- Swiftkey Keyboard sometimes doesn't show. Needs to re enable at Language and Input section.
- Poor VGA front cam. (which I'm aware of, prior to buying this device, so it's ok)
Basically, upon researching, SP somehow have poor RAM management and kills apps when RAM is somehow low. I wish we could define apps that SP won't kill, and it'll be fine!
Yes ram management is really bad in SP.. Someone will say free RAM is waste RAM.. But thats not true in my experience.. If u have low ram means ur running apps will close automatically... So free ram is not waste ram at always
Just try to root ur SP and freez some unwanted apps
Can you unlock the bootloader? Try CyanogenMod
Yeah in cm based roms we get a ram of 841 mb and in stock based roms only 766mb
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
I'm not talking about how much RAM does it say it has, Its about how it is managed.
Yep. CM based roms will giv better ram management and performance than Stock based rom.. If u dont care about the beauty of the Stock or stock based custom roms means try CM

No, it can be fixed already in 4.3. This problem is not due to android version but to Sony developers mistakes. It seems they have forgotten to make some apps like keyboard or music unkillable. The problem never happens on any jelly bean Rom without Sony UI.

Actually they are force closed too but you don't really see it. Android kills background apps to free memory for foreground app. Music and keyboard are special apps that you also use when they are in background ( keyboard seems foreground but I think it's just an illusion, the real foreground app is the one you are writing in) and that's why we notice it and it's annoying.
You can notice that Facebook or chrome are also killed in background because when you switch app and come back to them they have to reload, they are not at the state they were when you left them (most of the time for heavy apps).
