Restore for Warranty- Power button loop - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi,
My i9305 is constantly rebooting and it is caused by the faulty power button. The store is arranging warranty for me, but I obviously need to wipe any evidence of rooting/Roms.
I tried fixing it myself (unscrewing it without voiding warranty) but it didn't fix it.
I have used 4.3 roms (rXtreme, AOSP) and 4.4.4 roms.
I have tripped the Knox warranty counter.
Is there a way to wipe it clean for warranty?

How did u unscrew it without loosing warranty?

even if you try you can't make it clean for warranty...
at the moment(or as far as i know) there is no way to reset knox counter....
one way is to mess up the phone(hard) so much that it won't go to download....kill motherboard...

Oh wow- that's terrible!
Other than killing the phone- what other options do I have?

Is it the kind of repair I can do myself? I've replaced screens/housing several times before on iPhones etc.

Since it is an insurance claim you can just say that you lost the phone and never send it back. YOu could also make it physically unusable. With insurance it doesn't matter what you did to violate the warranty

[Q] Jtag

Ok now that I've bricked my Ace, I have a question. If I take it in to a repair shop to have it Jtagged for repair (full brick, no response at all) can they save the software that was loaded on my phone or does the process eliminate the entire phone's contents and return it back to factory state? I had a lot of stufff on it, that I should've backed up and didn't....
Entire phone will be resetted..
Thank-You for your reply! I was hoping that wouldn't happen, but I guess that's the price I pay for blindly hitting 'install'.
Thanks Again,

How likely would they be to discover I had bricked the phone if I were to submit it for warranty repairs? Would they delve that far into it in trying to repair it? It is hard bricked so I don't even get a screen any longer when I try to turn it on. It does however show up in Odin, just Odin can't do anything further with it. I'm have trouble finding someone local to jtag it.
Thanks!

They can't find it..Since Odin can find your device, however, you could try out changing your USB port and reinstalling drivers.Might work

Thanks for your reply,
Odin can't do anything for my brick, I've tried different ports no luck. It's under warranty, I've only had it a month so I'll drop it of at the provider and send it in. Worse possible scenario they'll bill me for the repair if they figure out what I did.
Thanks again!

They won't as long as you pretend to be a noob! And it is likely that they might replace the entire motherboard as well & who knows if your ace is even ace after it returns...!
I never had a head ache before then some one told me about rooting !!!

Thanks for the reply! I just got my phone back from repair, either they replaced the motherboard or the were able to unbrick it. No solder marks , so it wasn't j-tagged. works as good as new, no charge, under warranty!

[Q] Cost of sending a Galaxy S3 to repair (no warranty)

Hello,
The title is pretty straightforward. I ****ed up and bricked my GT-i9305 (International LTE). The touchscreen doesn't work, I tried very hard to fix it but couldn't.
Even with Triangle Away, I can't seem to be able to fix the counter. It doesn't matter, money isn't too much of a problem, I just want a phone that works.
So I have 2 questions :
- will Samsung repair a bricked phone without warranty ?
- how much will it cost ? (100$, 200$, more ?)
Thank you !

No >>>unless they do not see its been modified and with a bricked phone that is possible .
-
Cost depends upon what is required to repair .

The phone works perfectly except the touch screen. So it's still possible to access download mode, the phone menu etc.
I don't understand why they wouldn't repair the phone (while charging full price) since I'm a customer though.

Why not try repairing yourself with spare from eBay? Youtube has plenty of vids showing how to take phones apart. Its not difficult if you have a little patience and some small screwdrivers. Fixed the wife's s2 when orange refused to fix charging circuit even though known prob on internet, told me water damage which it wasn't....b******s!!!!
Good luck whatever you decide.

voids your samsung manufacturer warranty. i believe it has no bearing on jump or tmobile warranty. you should be ok. apparently samsung has stepped their game up with knox. ive always just flashed stock and reset it but apparently its some kind of write once "e-fuse" that once its written , its done. at least from my research. i was pretty pissed when i found that out. ( after i had already rooted)

t does void it but they do not check rarely unless you tell them it is triped
Not only that, I read Samsung pay will not work too. This Knox thing is pretty good. Nobody has been able to break it.

WARRANTY (Knox tripped)

Hello XDA,
After 6months with this tablet I have found that the processor in my model smt700 can't handle frequencies over 1.6ghz .
When first purchased with stock kitkat the screen flickered a few times then with the OTA lollipop the screen flickered even more so.
After rooting with king root it was then that I could set and test the frequencies and voltage and my conclusion after intensive testing was that my tablet could only be stable running at 1.6 ghz... thumb down !!
At first I didn't trip knox and just flashed tw based Rome with flashfire and after still having screen flickering issues with unexpected reboots I flashed twrp and CYANOGENmod 12 with the same cpublisher overloading at over 1.7ghz...
I have now called samsung who provided me with a prepaid shipping label (Ups) and was told to in luce the original charger and take of screen protector and any case.. as well I have to put o the outside of the box a service number for my service request...
I hope that Samsung won't be so evil with my product and refuse to provide service since my knox is at 0x2 ! !
At worst maybe the refashioned the device to new and at best a WORKING replacement but at worst a complete refusal of service to my device would put a nail in the coffin as for me ever purchasing another SAMSUNG device tablet, computer or T.V.
Samsung told me the expected turn around for the servicing should be around 14days.. I will post the result once my smt700 has returned...
Thanks XDA you have always been more helpful than any of the OEM's...
P.S. has any member here returned there knox tripped tablet for service or replacement with Samsung ??
Isn't the issue when you trip KNOX that repairs which would be covered for free under warranty now going to cost you despite being only 6 months into ownership? I suspect they will just ask for a credit card number before executing your requested repairs. If you refuse they may even charge you for shipping the unit back without any changes.

Make sure you put it back to complete stock before sending it in.
You never know.
Also not sure how your knox counter has got to 0x2. Mine always stays at 1 no matter how many times I've flashed it.
I have sent in multiple devices with Knox tripped....never an issue. People make such a big deal over nothing. I have NEVER heard of warranty issue due to Knox tripped.
Thank you very much for the reply suzook.
With your response it made my waiting much more hopefull...
I will report back with Samsungs actions regarding my device...

It's the flash counter, have you flashed 208 times?
No I haven't flashed 208 times.
3 tw roms, 2 kernels, cyanoGenmod, and flash twrp once...

It only seems to do this when non stock roms are flashed.
Maybe it's just a hex code.

Mic stopped working
restored it to the factory firmware, but didn't do anything about the knox value, they called me 1 hour after i dropped it off and said it was rooted and they couldn't cover the motherboard replacement underwarranty
i said "thanks" and picked it up

You just have to be lucky, some Samsung service center takes modification and rooting very seriously, other will just ignore it.
[UPDATE]
SAMUNG returned my device with documentation about what they did. The turn around from me shipping and my tablet retuning to me was a week..
Samsung states that they soldered a part on the device and i must say "The tablet is like new"
i am very happy so far...
as far a knox it is still tripped at the same state i left it at oxo208...
great job samsung. they fixed my knox tripped device...
"i wish i would have sent it in a while ago".
thanks...
