Hello,
So I am currently developing an app for the original Gear running on Tizen. My app is already submitted to the SamsungApps-store.
I am however not able to use the app on my watch. The app is apparently not "compatible" with the original Gear running Tizen with the Note 3. Before submitting the app, you have to select the compatible devices, but nowhere is the "Galaxy Note 3 - Gear 1.0 / Tizen 1" combination to be found. I can however find the "Galaxy S5 - Gear 1.0 / Tizen 1" on the list.
Now, the original Gear was introduced with the Note 3, which makes it even weirder that it is not compatible. How can I use my own application on my device?
I am also looking for a way to test my applications on an actual device during development. The emulators simply don't work for the purpose of my testings. What to do?
Thank you.
I have a developer certificate for the tizen sdk, I'm running a note 3 with the gear 1. I'd be willing to help test if you like.

When you say "developer certificate", how is that different from the certificates you acquire when your app gets approved for sale? I that case, I have already got one.
I am able to use the watch with the phone, but I am not able to submit any application to the Gear-store with the Note 3 / Gear 1 Tizen - combination.
I don't see why every other phone / watch combination is available, but not the exact one I need.

Hold on to your hats!!! I mean Galaxy Gears.... Or even buy up the old ones cheap as they have a larger battery and will obviously be cheaper than the Gear 2 & Neo.
Some of you suggested this which was nice and sensible as it was only a software update, but some clearly thought that GG owners would be left abandoned after just 6 months or less.... There is no icon to roll my eyes as much as I need to here.
Anyway - rejoice as the Jesus watch rises.
Sooo who's first to do the downgrade?
I haven't seen Tizen in person yet, but I'm 100% sure it will not replace Null ROM with my needs.
When one news source publishes something completely unsubstantiated that doesn't make it true. Here's the quote...
There was a worry that there would be no love for the older model, but a Samsung spokesperson confirmed to TechRadar that the Android would be stripped out and replaced with the new OS.
http://www.techradar.com/news/porta...upgrade-original-galaxy-gear-to-tizen-1227889Maybe it's true, maybe TechRadar is phishing for click-throughs. Kind of like re/code saying Samsung was ditching TW to please Google who sold Motorola to please Samsung. No outward sign of either unsubstantiated rumor being true (so far).

Assuming that it will be sidegraded/downgraded to Tizen, then the real issue is the other quote from a Samsung representative, the part that mentions that only the gear 2 and gear 2 neo will have their sdk released and even with Tizen on our original Galaxy Gears, we won't getting any decent apps.

And by extension if you have software development kit you can develop apps that run on Tizen.
The Galaxy Gear will have a some point ..... knowing how fast Samsung is maybe in months run Tizen.
A Tizen app is a Tizen app if it runs on the Gear 2 it will run on the Galaxy Gear (unless the app uses the heart rate monitor)
Other than the heart rate monitor the Galaxy Gear has the same hardware as the Gear 2, it will running Tizen and have exactly the same apps.
Now me I personally do not believe any watch running Tizen will ever have more Apps that a watch running Android but other that no heart rate monitor, maybe a ever so minor improvement on the clock there it no reason buy a Gear 2.
Me at this point I really do not care, I am 95% certain if anything I will get a Gear Fit, and the Gear Fit will not run Tizen or have many if any future apps.

Unless it has some unique api that needs the sdk. Then were screwed.
So good news with respect to Tizen and its feared incompatibility...

Hopefully someone will come up with a free option in converting apps to Tizen. $5000 PER APP is absurd. What about ask the developers who create free apps for android? What about customers who have paid for apps but the developers don't choose to pay 5grand to convert the app to a Tizen compatible version? If developing apps using HTML5 is as easy as Fomey says it is then we may have a shot at getting decent apps for the gear2, but if not...... My choice to hold out for the gear2 instead of getting the galaxy gear will probably bite me in the arse. I wonder if the galaxy gear will be able to downgrade after the Tizen update. If not I better go grab one now...

i'll eat my hat if that will be possible. but it won't. tizen is supposed to be better - according to samsung - so why give an option to downgrade?

I never said it was easy hehe.
Seriously tho, it would be awesome if HTML5 apps have hardware access.. we shall see!
I'll be impressed if they can OTA a whole new OS onto the watch. It's a little shady though. Imagine buying an apple computer, and having them ota windows onto it 6 months later.

Just in case anyone else has the same problem I did...
MapMyRide used to work fine on my note3 and gear1, but the last 2 updates on the phone app (3.0.4 and 3.0.3) don't work with the Galaxy Gear. On the watch, it tells me to install mapmyride on the phone. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both on the watch and phone. Rolled back to v2.9.5 on the phone and it's ok again.
I emailed them and this is the reply I got from MapMyRide :

The new updates are only compatible with Gear 2. I know this is frustrating, but we were told by Samsung that Gear 1 owners would be upgraded OTA to the Tizen-based Gear 2 OS. As a result, we planned our app upgrades to only support Gear 2.
We understand this upgrade has not happened. We have contacted Samsung to learn more and will update as soon as we find out more.

well this sounds like tizen could be coming soon
So, I updated to Tizen, but now MapMyRide is not showing up in the Samsung store in Gear Manager.
Is anyone else on Tizen able to see the MapMyRide app in the Gear Manager store?
I'm not sure if it's just because of my region (Thailand), although I could download MapMyRide for the Gear on Android...
Hi all, I just upgraded from Galaxy S4 to Note 4. I had Office Mobile installed on my S4 but when I try to download for the Note 4, I get "Not Compatible with This Device". Anyone know why this is, what to do, or if it WILL be compatible at some time? Thanks!
same message for me...there are plenty of alternatives, so its no big deal
I just pulled the apk from my wife's S5 and it installs and works great. Same thing with the Starbucks app.
Neither is the Starbucks app. ?
I sideloaded the apk and it installed and works with no issues.
Taking Notes on my Note 4
A lot of apps aren't compatible yet. Developers need to update their apps. Redbox and Starbucks to name 2 I need developers to update.
I sideloaded it. Here's a link to the apk I used.
http://1drv.ms/1ron9Gw
Now that Microsoft has made Office Mobile a free app, can someone provide us the straight-from-Microsoft app to try to sideload? The linked version, here, is labeled com.microsoft.office.officehub-15.0.3414.2000-APK4Fun.com.
According to a comment at the "Microsoft Community," Microsoft has classified the N4 as a tablet. Hence the incompatibility.
FWIW, I've signed up with Microsoft to request a preview of the tablet version.
An option

Hancom Office that comes with the phone is much better IMHO but that is up to you. You either sideload the app if you get the apk or you can download an app that works ONLY on rooted phones called Market Enabler - there you can make the market believe that you are downloading from a GS3 or other common phone.

Either you saw a fake video or just some app for screen mirror of phone
Before the tizen update you could do all this. But now we cant do nothing with them.

It may have been a fake but I seen too many videos with the other watches running android fully. .hell they even said it like having a mini S5 on your wrist... Dear all,
I've just started playing golf and therefore I bought a new Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 (SM-R840XXU1BUE3, Tizen 5.5.0.2) to use it with a cool app I have on my phone as well (Golf Pad). The developer say the watch is compatible with the watch but I can't find the app in the store. Also a direct link to the app which the developer sent me is just leading to the starting page of galaxy store.
Is the app not available for my region (CSC?). Which combination do I need to change it?
Would appreciate all your advices.
P.s: This is the link I got from the developers. https://galaxystore.samsung.com/geardetail/TuMSE0JYiN
This one works, but after I click on "install" I land on the starting page of the galaxy store in my wearable app. Same issue I had with an active 2.
Best regards
Jones
