Has anyone tried changing their dpi? The stock is a little big for me
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app

Stock is a lot big. I run AOSP all the time. So I've changed mine to 410. Looks so much better.

Use 440 myself, on XDABBEB's ROM. Stock is 480.

I use texdroider dpi changer and have mine set about 400. Some things look weird like the camera but I like a smaller DPI

240 dpi is snappier and smoother

Is it just me or is 240 dpi seemed snappier and smoother? it takes a few minutes to get used to it but it looks perfect. o just need to find a keyboard with bigger keys.

Yeah it's a Galaxy Note, are you jealous?
I have exactly opposite experience, I am on trr 1.5 beta with nova launcher and the swipe between home pages are quite laggy in 240 dpi setting. No lags whatsoever at 320 dpi setting.

I'm on ICS, using DAGr8 rom, really smooth on 240dpi using Apex.
I found 240 much better on GB. I could not find the correct matching upgrade for my eyes, however, so had to return to 320.
I am also on ICS and have no noticed any issue with 240DPI. It is reasonably easy to get used to but I prefer 260DPI, better for my horrible eyes lol.

[Q] Change LCD Density

The SGS3 comes with a standard LCD density of 340. Now will probably be fine when I'm 85, but right now I'd like to get it lower, like somewhere between 200 and 240 Is it possible to change the LCD density on the SGS3 i9305?
I've tried LCD Resolution and it did nothing. I don't want to try LCD Density Modder because the reviews relating to SGS3 are terrible, most users had to re-flash their roms due to bootloops.
Are there other XDA/Google Play apps anyone can recommend or can this perhaps be done by editing a specific system file?
"Texdroider_dpi" from Play Store works fine and it's free

Thanks - what DPI values have you tested/used? And what did you find most suitable for daily use?
I only use stock dpi but from memory rom toolbox has an option to change dpi and you can also edit your build.prop and change the ro.sf.lcd_density=320 to another value like 240.
From memory I think 240 or 260 was a commonly used dpi but also not all system apps and mods support the multi dpi, stock dialer was one of them can't remember any others.
Good thing to have a nandroid backup when playing with the dpi incase of bootloops

It's safe, I've been messing with it on SGS2 and now. Very easy to use, no boot loops for me at all.
Now I'm using stock 340 but tried 220 & 240 and all works fine. 220 is tiny tho
Stock dialer is NOT full screen, can be annoying....

Thanks - I found a LCD dialer mod for the Galaxy S3 a week or two back.. can't find it now. Will post the link when I do.. not sure if it'll work the i9305 version tho..
240 LCD Keyboard Mod
Texdroider DPI confirmed working at 240 on SGS3 LTE
Galaxy Note 2 Keyboard 240 Mod confirmed working on SGS3 LTE so keyboard displays at correct density and fits the screen properly. Check the [MOD]240 DPI apps for samsung roms 4.1.1 & 4.1.2 [Update 27/11/12] thread for info and the SamsungIME apk

Note2 camera mod working also at 240 DPI on SGS3 LTE.. so the only mod I can't get working yet is the dialer at 240.. currently the 240 mod FCs but there's an update coming this weekend so hopefully it will sort the dialer.. then it's all good, 240 DPI with no compromises

MIUI hdpi themes?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, I'm on my phone and have no way to see rules or anything like that. Anyway, I would like to use miui on my Galaxy S3, however MIUI is 320 DPI by default (ridiculous) and changing the LCD density totally breaks the UI. In order to be able to enjoy using my phone I need to have at least 240 DPI. Are there any themes compatible with the decreased DPI?

Any rooted users mess around much with DPI (Xposed) settings yet?

So far I've changed a handful of apps and all seems well.
I got a little ambitious though and was going to try and shrink the status bar a bit.
If I remember correctly (been using PA for a while), in the past all that required was changing the DPI for Android System and System UI.
However, doing this leaves me with a gap under the status bar and changing the DPI of Android System seems to affect all the apps...and royally screw up the Samsung keyboard. It works, but the graphics are massively stretched so you have to guess where the keys should be.
Changed these particular settings aren't a huge deal, was just curious if anyone else has had more success, or if I'm just doing something stupid

I'm wondering about the same thing. I have not touched anything with the status bar but would really like to shrink the ridiculously large font. I have changed DPI on a number of apps and no issues so far.
I've never messed with this but I'd love to get rid of the huge font everywhere. Haha

settings/device/font/font size
I changed mine to extra small
I also use apex launcher and changed all the icon sizes to 85% and increased all the rows/columns +1
this made it seem as if it is a better dpi but without hardcore modding of the individual dpi's

I'm just doing individual apps for now as well. 400 DPI seems to be the sweet spot for my eyes.
I changed my whole system to 320 dpi for play store compatability. Whatever dpi ya set make sure to set the tw apps to 480 so they arent screwed up. These include calculator, phone, contacts, camera, email, photo editor, tw home & tw easy home. Ive noticed the keyboard is finally multi dpi and its working just fine for me on 320 dpi. Oh by the way i used rom toolbox to switch my overall dpi & set my per app settings BEFORE changing dpi to prevent any fc's lemme know if ya need any help

Yea changing the build.prop and then overriding a few apps is a much easier approach, good call.

Biggest thing is to make sure ya set the specific apps first haha. I set the whole thing once first and it was a big mess! With setting the apps I specified, the only weird thing i saw was if you go to task manager the top bar is off centered. You can still see everything but theres black space to the right. Other then that everything is just about perfect

Does running the dpi at 350 or 400 cause any issues with the play store? I don't have Xposed installed but I was thinking of using rom toolbox to set it at 350 or 400.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 4
It may cause some apps not to show up in the app store because its an unrecognized dpi. Theres a module for xposed that restores app store compatability though I believe

Anyone what program needs to be set to 480 for the S-view window to appear correctly? Tried a bunch but nothing seems to affect it. Thanks

Yeah the clock/weather screen that appears when the s-view cover in closed within the plastic window. Unfortunately I thought it might be tied to system UI which sucks.

Is your phone and contacts working properly? I did the Rom Toolbox as well and set it to 360. I used Xposed to set the DPI to 480 for Contacts and Phone. The initial dialer looks correct. However, after the call connects, the dialer is in the middle of the screen instead of being down the bottom like how it is before the call. Did you run into this issue?

Looks like mine is working now after switching launchers. So the culprit is in the settings of the old launcher and has nothing to do with build.prop DPI. This is good news :good:
---------- Post added at 05:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:06 AM ----------
While we're on the topic of modifying the look and feel of the phone, can anyone tell me where in settings I need to go to turn off the Weather/Calendar widget on the lock screen? I can't seem to find it anywhere in either settings or calendar app.

I downloaded the beta. When I started the app this morning I saw that there is an update from the beta to 2.3.1. Anybody updated to this version? If so, any issues? Without being able to do a custom recovery I don't want to take too many chances on an infinite bootloop.
Working fine here.

[Q] Is there any ROM that supports custom DPI?

Everything on this phone looks too big! Which makes having such a high resolution plain stupid. Is there any ROM that supports custom DPI that doesn't break apps and stuff?
Thank you!
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
To answer my own question:
Custom ROM is needed that supports writing to /system. After that changing lcd density value in /system/build.prop will change dpi system wide! However HTC sense is NOT elastic so it won't fill out the extra screen space. Xposed framework and appsetting module is needed to put htc sense back to original 480 dpi.
Most (if not all) nonhtc apps are elastic so no problem there.
I use very high res for chrome for example (320). Screen on this phone is stunning so you can really be comfortable even at 320 dpi.
