I've had this for about a day, and I have to say that this is an excellent tablet so far. I could do without TouchWiz and bloatware though. I just threw in Nova Launcher to kill some of TouchWiz. I plan on rooting and flashing a custom recovery as soon as a recognizable team is available.

I am liking Touch Wiz. There I have said it. It might be that I am being blinded by the 5.3” Super Amoled HD screen on my new Galaxy Note but at the moment I have quite enjoyed the Samsung skin. I must admit I wasn’t expecting too and on every other Android device I have had (3 ZTE Blades, SE X10, SE Arc and a Hannspad) I have always rooted and flashed either vanilla-ised ROMs or CM ROMs.
I might even keep it on stock until the ICS update – which could be some time knowing Samsung’s past record. I only got the Note on Saturday so it is early days and some of the ICS ROMs do look good but I just don’t know if I can be bothered.
Hey nothing wrong with liking the Wizz
I have no issues with the skin itself, but rather the "weight" of the rom. Any TW based rom seems to be pretty large in size compared to the AOSP counterpart.
Question for the future
If i ever wanted to root the note to stock android will i lose the functionality of the spen?
I am sure i will loose as soon as its pulled out i get that pie grid to choose for options, and not alert me when the pen is not in its holster, but other then that will it work the same as far is it bewing drawn on the screen etc.
I really love the spen but i cant stand touchwiz and androild L looks way to sexy to pass up.
If the past is any indication, you'll need a stock based ROM for any spen functionality. No big deal though, just install the launcher of your choice and Xposed (if it works with L) and you'll be good to go.

Definitely, as it is a direct feature of only Samsung phones... at least the features they offer, you could probably get the S-pen to work, but it would be no different than a 3rd party device, very basic and lacking...
On the note 2v many of the spen features so work on CM11 I am assuming it will be the same for the note 4 when it is done. It does not have all of the two features, (screen capture, write on picture, etc), will not work, but the hover and general interaction does

If your talking about flashing an (AOSP or CM based) android L rom. Then yes, you will not have the same functionality of the spen as you do now.
But if your talking about when ever Android L update in available for note 4. Then you can root, and will keep all spen features.
Personally I don't understand why Pple buy the Note just to flash a non stock (AOSP, CM) Rom. You lose so many features that where designed for this phone. My opinion if you have to have a CM based rom, buy a Nexus.
Anybody who doesn't use a stock based rom. I'm curious to why not?
I just bought a Galaxy Tab S 8.4. I have had other Android tablets before. My most recent was a Nexus 7. I rooted my 8.4 easily enough. When I tried to uninstall some bloatware, the system just reinstalled it I'm looking for a custom ROM like Clean ROM on the Nexus 7 - one with less bloatware or at least the ability to have control over what apps I keep.
Thanks for any input.
Sorry wrong forum. Ignore!
Hiya!
I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, the 9.2". I am really pleased with the performance, looks, weight (it's like a feather!), but there is one thing I miss greatly from my old Nexus 7: Material Design
I really like how simple and neat it looks, honestly. I've been doing some research and the only options I'm finding are installing the Samsung 6.0.1 firmware. Has anyone successfully managed to install and run the stock Marshmallow, like the one that the Nexus device runs?
For the moment we only have cm12.1 and cm13 which are close to stock (plus cm theme and tweaks) Android but are still in development (not considered as stable build)

Considering OP just bought the device, it is more than likely a 2016 model that does not have an available Cyanogenmod yet.

There were some improvements, but nothing to write home about. I'm irritated that Sammy gives theme support to their new phones and don't even allow us to set to a darker theme to preserve battery without doing the salt the earth battery saver feature. :silly:
I don't think you're missing much with this update, more disappointment than anything, I also don't think OP's tablet is a 2016 because s/he isn't already on MM... I heard it shipped with MM. Sammy knows best. Sammy also leaves flagship android tablet with broken promises... and dreams. "Theme support coming" my eye.
I think it's telling that you can mod your build prop and install theme store from a shady source and it works... (haven't tried, the topic is floating around here somewhere.)
I hope at least this will mark an acceleration of update cycles for security purposes, especially since some researcher endorsed sammy devices for update speed.
Thanks everyone for the quick answers! I guess my only option is to wait for a more stable and fully functional Cyanogen then. I guess patience will be the key here :-/
My model is definitely the 2015, as it came with Lollipop and I had to download Marshmallow myself via the update tool, btw. Not much worried as the changes seem to be minimal though.
Hi, I have the 8 inch Tab S2. Can anyone divert me to a lightweight ROM that just has the PlayStore and or little or no extra apps? Even if I reset my tab, it seems to have lots of samsung crap and stuff on that I do not use. I'd rather just have a plain ROM and download the things I need.
