Hey fellas ;
I just wanted you to know that i cracked my screen and half of my digitizer was not functional.
I used "wm size 768x800" on the terminal to be able to use the screen until i got my replacement lcd assembly. (Frame included.)
Yesterday i got it. I wish i hadn't.
I first realized that the screen is significantly more blue than the original. I thought maybe when i mount it it would go away (It was a long shot.)
I mounted it and it was ready to go , then i received a phone call and i couldn't end it because the screen wouldn't turn on. I immediately knew that there was something wrong with the proximity sensor. i plugged it out and tested it , it works fine but the problem is with the slot. It's significantly higher than it should be , causing a gap between the screen and the proximity sensor. Proximity sensor outputs it as an object in proximity and turns the screen off , never to turn on again unless the other side ends the call. I solved that with power button ends call feature.
Then i got a notification from facebook and i realized there is a circle around the notification led , that circle should have been covered with an optical filter which filters and focuses light. Without that filter you won't be able to get side colors such as purple because there are two sides to that LED which light up differently. One side lights up as blue , the other as red then these lights go through the filter at the same time , they are combined to give you purple.
I harvested my broken screen's filter and cut it so that it fits the circular spot in the frame. The actual shape is a rectangle because it is put between the frame and the digitizer.
So , i got it to a tolerable state then i went to get some cigs. I got a call , talked then when i slid the phone in my pocket , the digitizer fell off and ripped the flex cable.
Then i got home , flamed the seller so hard (politely) , he probably caught fire while reading it , so he accepted paid back my money , didn't even ask for a return shipping , he said to keep it.
I went ahead and bought the original one from a friend who works at LG , and all's well.
I mean not even a hiccup , it's great.
I'm opening this thread so you don't need to live through the same nightmare i did.
First thing to check is the digitizer's IC on the flex cable , it should be wrapped with aluminum foil , if it's not , it's a fake.
LG doesn'T sell the assembly without the frame so those that are without frame , they're fake.
There shouldn't be a circular spot around the notification LED , if there is , it's fake or without frame , still fake.
The screen should be pitch black on medium light , if it's bluer , it's a fake.
If the screen bulges out from the frame so much that it's annoying , it's a fake.
If the proximity sensor isn't working , it's probably a fake as well. It doesn't have anything to do with the purple filter , it does with the gap.
If the lcd does that weird thing when you tap on the screen , it's a fake. (That weird thing is , colors and pixels getting all mixed up like there is some kind of a liquid inside the monitor (there is). It happens because the glass is more flexible than it should be , thus it's not gorilla glass.
I mean i wouldn't mind a nice clone with just the blue of the screen , but this is intolerable.
It was 40 dollars on ebay , should have figured it was a fake from the price tag.
I hope i spared you a nightmare.
Edit : So , i still had the knockoff screen lying around , thought i would buy a broken nexus 4 for 100$. I got it , installed the screen , fixed the digitizer flex cable , everything was fine but out of the blue , the screen started appearing weird , there were lines on the screen and the resolution somehow dropped to like 640x480 , i can see the pixels clearly now , they got bigger. I don't know how or why. Anyways don't buy knockoffs because they're cheap. A week tops , then you'll need to get a new one. OEM FTW!
I have also been bit by knockoff screens for a few phones. The knockoffs just are not held to the same specs I guess. My latest was a new screen for my daughters G2. Cheap price and fast shipping, but as the phone heats up from use it gets ghosting and white lines......hard lesson learned I guess.

Back when the digitizers were separate from the lcds and gorilla glass wasn't so popular , i used to order knock off digitizers from ebay for me or my friends then i would fix their phones with that stuff , it always worked but i myself glued them to the frame. I had never tried knockoff LCDs because i knew better.
FFS , i live in Turkey and nobody and i mean nobody has ever heard of "3m". So i usually need to order it from U.S. , which takes about a month to get here and i was out of double-sided tape.
Genuine assemblies come from European countries or U.S. but almost never from China , which is a shame because nobody else offers free shipping. 10 $ for the glass + 30 $ for the shipping. That's just unfair.
Fellas who did the overheating mod , please visit the following link and be forewarned! ;

today i have noticed that there is a very small black dot on lcd, but i dont think its a dead pixel, because its visible when the screen is off, like a little dust under screen !
is it possible that dust goes under hd7 screen ?
how can i fix that ?
I have the same issue. But I leave it as it is ´cause I don´t want to make it worse and in normal operating it doesn´t bug me so much.
what is it ? is it dust or dead pixel do you think ?
but its annoying in white background
Well indeed I think it is a dead black pixel since it doesn't move like dust.
It doesn't disturb since the display never is fully cleaned :-]
My first HD7 had dust under the screen straight out the box, 2 specks by the arrow up the top right, I exchanged it as it also had a gap on the battery cover so I could see the SIM card.
replacement was perfect, so a bit of dodgy quality control at HTC by the looks of it..

hi John.
I have HD7 and the battery cover has a gap- as you described...
where did you send your hd7 in order to be replaced?
Did you send it dirtectly in HTC's?
or did you address to the shop you bought it?
how many days did they spend to replace your mobile?
Thanks for your help
the small dots under the screen is not dust specs.
its actually the insulators builted in the screen..
if u place the screen under then sun with a black screen (lcd off) u can see there is actually quite a number of them.
they are visible if u tilt it to a certain angle..
i place a matte type screen protector and its not visible anymore.
anyway i still hate the tarnished camera button.
nevertheless, my kick stand starts to paint-pill even though i have not even use them. =(
but i still love wp7.

I know what are you saying, but this dot is different from them, its not on that grid, its only one and when the background is white its visible as dark color
but i dont think its a dead pixel too, it is a little far from lcd and seems to be under the front glass !
I couldnt do anything with it
HI.
I've unfortunately caught my XT890's screen with what was probably a set a of keys and have pushed the frame away from the glass at the Sim and SD card slot so that there is approx. a 4 mm gap between the glass and the frame ( the sealant is visible).
The phone's screen continued to work perfectly for about a day until I pushed the frame back into place and appear to have done some damage as the screen slowly stopped working - I had a section of black that appeared at the top of the screen and slowly crept down the screen, which went purple first then black , creeping down the sides of the screen first, then filling in the middle until the full screen is black. I think I've also lost the digitizer input, as I can no longer turn the 6am alarm off on it.. and I can't take out the battery either :S
I've "rebend" the frame to the original damage, but this has had no impact in reverting the screen to "usable".
The glass looks complete - no cracks or anything, so I'm really not sure if replacing the glass screen and digitizer pre-build as a "frame" will fix the problem, or not. At ~£30 for the part on a phone worth ~£70, I'd like to understand if its' worth the risk or just to buy a replacement outright.
Has anyone had similar experience with this?
lol, never seen that before. Looks like the liquid inside the screen slowly dropped out and damaged some internal parts. This will certainly needs replacements. But unless u can do it your self i would consider buying a new one.
How did u bend your phone sides on the first place? (i never tried it, but it seems very sturdy)
I have absolutely no idea how I managed this - I was up a ladder at the time and must of inadvertently put a leatherman or keys in the same pocket as the phone and then "trapped" it so that it pushed sideways on exactly the weak spot of the simcard slot. I'll upload a picture of the damage for prosperity.
I didn't think AMOLED had liquid in them, but that would correlate with the affect I had - it must of been a tiny, tiny hole :S.
Such as shame after 2 years of perfect operation - and I had hoped for another year instead of procuring a new phone as it did the job so well.
Yep, I'm happy to replace it myself, I've done 4 or 5 screens on a Defy before, and this looks simpler.
PS - it looked very similar to the pictures in this, so that's positive in some ways!

I cracked my screen and bought a new with digitizer. was very easy to replace just follow the youtube video about disassemble razr i.
You will also need some glue though for the stupidly placed motorola logo..
i bought mine from ebay for less than 20 euro. but it has some wierd greenish color in the top where the statusbar is. its not visible when holding the phone vertical. but when holding horizontel its alittle noticeable. not a problem at all but just be carefull going for the cheap ones.
So as many out there I broke the phone screen.
It only broke the outside glass, the screen itself still works fine, except for a little blue area/dot (screen as been broken for months so probably moister got it)
I'm not certain of what to buy (I do want a new screen with no blue dot) as prices and product names are very confusing
I'll probably buy this aliexpress
Is this the whole screen?
Does anyone recomends something else?
I replaced the whole screen including the frame. I'm happy with it. No touch issues and multitouch passed with 10 fingers. I bought this one.
So I've just been using my phone in low light and ive noticed there is light showing through a gap between the screen and the phones frame.
It starts just above the power button and goes for about 30mm upwards.
Going to the service centre on Sunday. I really hope they replace it rather than try a screen replacement. I'm just worried it's the battery expanding.
I've circled it in blue. The light below it is the edge of my screen protector.
For the record my phone is unmarked never been dropped.
I noticed the same issue after I had my screen replaced. There was no gap out of the box, and now I'm worried about water resistance, on top of other things.

Most of the note 9 got it, I also do and didn't have a single problem for 8-9 months. Returning the phone like that if not really soon after purchase will lead to refurbished phone given to you (99% about that) and I think it's safe to say that refurbished phone used from someone else and having God knowns what issue fixed (hopefully) is worse than having a slight light bleed reflection.
Still, while I am saying that I strongly think that 1000 euro priced phone should not have such a QA defects (even a 300 euro one should not). Beside that my note 9 is literally flawlessly perfect and my display is also 100% perfect uniformity (you can search for that problem, part of the screen are less bright vs others... and this is a deal break).
I dropped my Exynos Note 9 several weeks ago in a case that wasn't very protective. Thought I dodged a bullet, but several days later I noticed a partial black "not quite half circle" on the edge of the screen, approximately 3-4 mm.
Then last week, a horizontal black line appeared across my screen, Ema aging from the black ellipse. The line only appears at certain brightness settings and will go away if I make the screen brighter.
The screen also flickers strangely sometimes when Coming out of Screensaver mode.
The glass is not cracked.
1) I need to replace... the screen?
2) how much would this cost to replace it myself?
Thanks. If I missed anything please ask.
Well, the best is to buy a new screen with frame, I am in Europe and you can find these on ebay for around 220-240€. The biggest challenge is getting the battery cover off in one piece. I did replace the screen/frame and back cover on my previous Huawei mate 20 pro, the screen/frame came with a fresh battery glued in. My only challenge was that the "original" adhesive provided with the new back cover was useless. Plenty on ebay but only 1 or 2 where the real thing, the others where not holding the back cover on. I had basically a new phone externally and is still in daily use by my wife.
For my note 10 plus I have bought a new back cover and screen/frame. It has a heavy screen burn and a hairline crack in the glass. I will take the opportunity to transform it from a Aura black into a Aura white...Like Jerry is saying, its like little lego. Plenty of you tube video's on how to!
