Wrong bootloader flashed - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
and sorry for my horrible English! Yesterday I made a big mistake and I killed the bootloader of my Kindle Fire HD built in 2012!
I was reading on a german android plattform, that in this forum here are some members, who are able to write a new bootloader!
My questions are:
1. Is that right
2. how much it will coast?
Best wishes from Germany
Magnus

Yes,it is right. Depending on what you did to the device,it might not cost anything at all. My question is,which bootloader did you flash?

At the last step of this instruction my kindle was dead!
Step 1: Test your fastboot driver installation by doing the following:
(For Kindle Fire 2nd Ed. and Kindle Fire HD 7" (2012) a fastboot cable is needed for this procedure. This cable is a special USB cable with a powered pin that normal USB cables do not have. For the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" it is not required.)
Power down your device if necessary
Type the following command into a cmd/terminal window on your PC:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Should return with: < waiting for device >
If you need to, connect your fastboot cable to the Kindle at this time
Reboot the device
It *SHOULD* show a Fastboot screen and your terminal window should show something like:
product: Tate-XXX-XX
(example for Kindle Fire HD 7" 2012, can also start with "Jem" or "Otter2")
If you have any problems with these initial steps try downloading Amazon's USB drivers for the Kindles and then repeat the above till you see the desired response.
Step 2: Download the files you will need to install 2nd-bootloader & TWRP recovery:
An older bootloader with an unlock exploit (this is specific to your device):
kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
md5sum a56f24c0c01aaea4bf408bc710faadaa
VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DOUBLE CHECK THE MD5SUM ON THIS FILE. IF ITS CORRUPTED AND YOU APPLY WITH FASTBOOT, YOUR DEVICE IS A BRICK.
TWRP Recovery:
kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img
md5sum a0c7533fd853849184850580350abd18
Freedom Boot.img:
kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
md5sum 8374cf88e75abda8c374044a1f0daa5f
Step 3: Use fastboot to apply exploit files and reboot into recovery With the device powered off: connect your FASTBOOT USB cable(if needed) to the Kindle which should cause it to power on and enter "FASTBOOT" mode. Issue the following commands into your command/terminal window on your PC 1 at a time. (if you don't need a fastboot cable then power on the device after entering the 1st command below)
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash bootloader kfhd8-u-boot-prod-8.1.4.bin
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery kfhd8-twrp-2.7.0.0-recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot kfhd8-freedom-boot-8.4.6.img
(if using a fastboot USB cable swap to a normal USB cable before entering the next command)

If the fastboot cord does not energize the tablet then it's a done deal. You can try the emmc threat or a new motherboard.

[SOLVED] [Q] Boot Loop and stuck with a fastboot logo

Hi all,
sorry if it's a noob question.. i tried to root and installa second bootloader on my KF HD7" today following this guide [REF] Installing Kindle Fire HD 7" 2nd-Bootloader + TWRP Complete Tutorial.
Unfortunately i ended up with an unusable tablet..
When i press the power button i press also the volume up key and unpress it short after the kindle logo gets blue.. then i simply get a Fastboot logo (see attached screenshot) and can't do anything..
Do i need to buy a fastboot cable now or what?
Thanks in advance
M
Small update, when the tablet is stuck on that logo, i can see it in window's device manager listed as Tate-PVT-08 Maybe i can still hope to get it woking some way??
Use Kindle fire first aide. Flash 7.2.3. When it asks if you're already in fastboot say yes
Sent from my TF300T on CyanogenMod 10.2 using Tapatalk 4
The fact you see Tate says your drivers are good. I would suggest you get a fastboot cord. Kindle Fire FirstAide has been acting up as of late. I would look for the Kindle Fire Restore tool on here. You can try to use it with regular USB since you are in fastboot already. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 chose the 2nd one down, the 7.2.3 with separate restore option.

Ok, so i tried KKFA and nothing, then tried the method suggested by LinearEquation, that seemed to work as i cpould see the system image transferred and everything was ok with the tool, but... after the reboot now i have a 60 seconds of kindle fire logo showing on and off and then just a black screen.
No more fast boot mode and the device does'nt show up anymore in windows
I guess now i really need a fastboot cord?
doh
Yes, you need a fastboot cord now. You're in a bootloop. Your drivers won't be recognised at the moment. Use the same tool after obtaining a fastboot cord. Use the 7.2.3 with restore download. Make sure to wipe (#3 think) after restore before rebooting into system.
There have been a few bootloops from this. Should be fairly easy to get past.

I do have factory fastboot cord. The problem is it won't stay on. It goes in to fastboot then shuts off, then on again to fastboot, then off, etc. Starts when powered on with cord or without cord. I can shut it down with power button, but as soon as it is started on it goes into the on/off fastboot loop. Any solution would be greatfully appreaciated.
Power your tablet down, now plug fastboot cable into tablet and the into USB on computer. Now, does the tablets screen say fastboot and stay on fastboot?

Ok i understand. The tablet is powered off by the 30 second hard method. As soon as it is powered on it goes into fastboot mod and after one second it shuts down. If it is plugged into the computer it boots into fastboot, regardless of the type cord used, and then shuts down, then starts up, then shuts down, repeatedly looping on/off. It does the same thing when plugged into the wall charger except it shuts off or the screen goes blank.. It just won't stay on long enough for the pc and adb to see it to stop it from this crazy on/off fastboot loop. I think it is stuck in some kind of fastboot command. Maybe when it is fully drained, and I recharge it, or try to, it will stay on. Any further suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Do you have an actual fastboot cord or just a standard USB cord? ADB commands are not possible right now. You are looping for some reason. Anytime you turn it on, charge it or otherwise energize the tablet, you will get that same loop. I need to know if you have an actual fastboot cord or not because this will force the tablet into fastboot and make it stay there at which time you will can attempt a system restore.
Also, did you download SDK before modding to be able to execute fastboot/ADB commands?

Yes, I have an actual fastboot cord. When I used it, the tablet boots into fastboot screen, then immediately shuts down, then up, then down. It will not stay on in fastboot mode or any other mode. It will not stay on in fastboot or any mode. It appears to be stuck in a fastboot reboot fastboot type loop. I do have SDK installed and used it to mod the KFHD8.9 and KFOtter using TRWP 2.6.3.1 and CM 11.1 nightlies. No problems with those two tabs. But the this KFHD7 is looping and I can't stop it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It almost sounds like you have a faulty fastboot cord or perhaps the USB port you're using is not staying energized. A fastboot cords only job, for the Kindle's, is to put the tablet in fastboot mod by adding 5Volts to pin one forcing the tablet into fastboot.
Try a different USB port, check the voltage output on cord or try a new cord all together. That's would be my next move.

Can you tell me what you were doing when this happened? What did you flash/push and onto a KFHD7 2012 I assume? And it just flashes "fastboot no matter what?
Power your tablet off and open a command and type 'fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" with no quotes and hit enter. You should now see <waiting for device> Now plug your KFHD7 into the computer via USB. It should boot into fastboot and return tate-xxx-xxx.

[Q] Odd Kindle Fire HD Brick

Hi all,
I'm experiencing a very weird brick with my 7" Kindle Fire HD. I've rooted (and bricked) my kindle before, and have been able to fix it. This time I can't. Here's what happened: Something went terribly wrong in the FireFireFire app. I think I may have flashed the wrong .img to the wrong place. It was stupid experimentation; I didn't know what I was doing, and should not have been so careless. Anyway, now my kindle is stuck in a boot loop: it turns on to the "Kindle Fire" logo for a few seconds, flashes off, and repeats. Here is where it gets strange: ADB is not recognized on my computer when I plug it in. No device is detected, either. And I have a fastboot cable; it doesn't change a thing. The Kindle still just repeats. I've tried restarting while it was plugged in, so many different tools...it seems hopeless. Please try to help if you know what's going on.
Thank you,
Cchaos42 :cyclops:
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the fire fire fire app is only for the first gen kindle not the HD your lucky you didn't fry the boot loader
At this point you need a fast boot cable and the program kffaide or the kindle fire hd system restore tool.
There is no easy fix from this without fast boot and one of those tools

Sorry didn't see you said you had a fastboot cable. I trust you know it functions properly?
Usually in these instances the fast boot cable still gets the kindle too bout up the fast boot logo
If you are unable to get to fast boot your last option is in the kindle fire 2 thread. They have one where they are taking apart the kindle and flashing the ROM via a USB mechanism

[Q] Kindle bricked - stuck on yellow triangle recovery screen

Hello,
I've been working on a KF that was previously rooted - and now will only boot to this screen:
Attached - BootScreen
I was able to previously access TWRP, but now after trying to wipe the kindle, it will no longer boot to that.
When accessing the KF via a fastboot cable, this is how the device is recognized:
Attached - Driver
Running options in KFU, I receive:
Attached - KFU
I've had the most luck with the "KINDLE FIRE HD System.img Recovery Tool"
Attached - SystemImage
It allows me to remotely reboot my kindle, and says that it successfully writes a new image on the device(downloaded a fresh blank one) but the KF will boot to the yellow triangle screen every time thereafter regardless.
Any other suggestions on what I could do?
Try this:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000

Dude, why would you flash an 8.9 bootloader on the 7"? If it doesn't even turn on,it's a hard brick. I think something can be done with some soldering tools,an sdcard reader and steady hands. To know the exact process, contact @stunts513

As SafinWest suggested this could be a hard brick and soldiering may be needed. First, get a fastboot cord and try the SRT http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 if a fastboot cord gets you into fastboot the you can most likely restore the tablet with SRT.

Hi! If you have a fastboot cable please use this.
Go on this website: http://androidcowboy.com/2013/07/how-to-recover-bricked-kindle-fire-hd/
This website has helped me loads. But will only get you unbricked if you can actually turn the device on.
by the way is you kindle fire hd a 2012 version?

They said it has a camera which means it's a 2012 model as 2013 has no camera.

How to flash An OS in fastboot (Unbrick Kindle fire hd7")

So i have just got my fastboot cable the problem is that every time i type in a command e.g fastboot reboot all it says is <waiting for device> if i type fastboot devices nothing is there but when i fastboot cable is in device manager shows it under android phone.
Edit: When i type fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product i get product: Tate-PVT-08
finished. total time: 0.004s
But any other command just gives me <waiting for device>
Im confused on what fastboot cable i should buy for my tate (Kindle fire HD 7") i have seen 79cm ones 3ft ones and other ones i don't want to end up buying the wrong one can someone help me Here are the ones i looked at.
also would i be able to use the fastboot cable even if my my kidnle doesn't connect to my pc and when i boot it up it gets up to the yellow boot logo then flashes then repeats this.

http://www.amazon.com/Fastboot-Motorola-Factory-Atomic-Market/dp/B00KYVEM1I
if you are wondering why i need a fastboot cable its because my tate is hard bricked when i boot it up it stays on the yellow boot logo then flashes then goes back to the yelow boot logo and just keeps looping.
Either of the two you've found should work. Assuming your kindle isn't damaged it will enter fastboot mode as soon as power is supplied to the cable (Yellow logo first, then the fastboot spash screen).

Generally Rom zips are not flashed in fastboot mode, they are scripted to install in a custom recovery.
Fastboot mode is used to flash bootloaders, Stock system .img(s), and custom recoveries

I've been playing this game for many hours today/yesterday, my experience is:
plug in fastboot cable, reboot KFHD7, at this point once you see fastboot displayed on device you can disconnect and re-connect with standard cable.
Use KFHD_SRT_v1.3.0 (search XDA for download), use option 3 "Factory recovery".
Use option 6 to reboot normally.
Good luck, John

Sorry i forgot to say i already fixed it but i pushed option 2 which bricked my device so i found out that Kindle os 7.3.1 could not support TWRP so i set it back to factory recovery then i rebooted normally waited for my kindle to update to 7.5.1 then flashed twrp and then cm11. The good thing about all of this is that i have the latest twrp 2.8
