Anyone bought Chinese knockoff Dot View Case? - One (M8) Accessories

After reviewing several different version of Dot View Case Clone, I ordered mine at Amazon for $10 here http://amzn.to/1uCKago
This one stated that it is using the same material as the HTC version else some other version uses leather front cover with cut out holes which I'm worried that swiping on it wont be as smooth.
Anyone had the leather front cover version? They have some nice colors especially the gold color for my gold M8.

I purchased this one, http://www.ebay.com/itm/291190318285, which should be here today or tomorrow. It arrived at my post office about an hour ago. I'll post my thoughts here in the next couple days.

Ordered one off eBay. Hopefully it is good but if not eBay does have their guarantee so I think its worth the risk.

Got this case yesterday. I have a OEM dot view case as well that I broke trying to stretch it. This cover isn't quite as thick/sturdy but other than that I can barely tell a difference between the two. It mentions on the eBay item that it's "Dot View Flip Leather Case" though none of it seems leather to me. I did pull on it a bit to get it to fit on my glass screen protector and it sits almost flush. Better than the OEM case.

That looks pretty good. Does it function perfectly as well? What did you do with your broken one? If the actual cover piece is intact, I may be interested in taking it off your hands, haha. I really wish the dot view case covered the right edge of the phone...

Yeah it works well. Not as snappy closing and folds over easier than the OEM which I like. I wish they made one that didn't automatically close though. I was hopping the "leather" feature would be the folding side and it would lay open if I wanted it to. OH well. It folds more flat than the original at least.
I have my old one. Basically the cover tore off the back when trying to stretch it to fit over my glass screen protector. I then glued it into a cheap case I got off Amazon and it fit decent but wasn't perfect and the view through the case just seemed off. Here's a couple pictures of my MacGyver'd case.

Yep. This one, http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6100440084.html . Did save me last weekend though. I have a decent chip on the bottom right edge of it. I don't remember dropping my phone but I was at a party and far from sober.

That's exactly what my idea was. I wanted to find a way to incorporate the cover into my current case which provides much more coverage than the Dot View does.

Might have to try this out
I like my pure-gear case, but I've always been intrigued by the dot view...

Never buy the knockoff, the quality sucks. You get what you pay.

i got this:

Received mine today, I didn't own the OEM version so am unable to compare but this version seems just fine and works exactly like the original version.

I bought one from miniseller in ebay. I got it today only they sent me a case that isn't a dot view and it is for the m7

I got one for about $15 off eBay.. It has htc logos on it but almost certainly is a knock off. Sad part is that it doesn't close all the way with my tempered glass screen protector so it's kind of a waste of money. I've seen some posts that say it will close better after about a week but I tend to doubt it.
Quality seems fine and about the same as the authentic ones.

I got a knockoff from ebay as well. Though it doesn't say htc anywhere on it. IMO it's way better than the OEM one. The hinge allows the cover to lay flatter when opened than the OEM one I have and it does work fine with my .33mm glass screen protector. It did seem to break in as at first it would lay almost flat but not quite. Now it lays flat. No complaints!

Thanks... I'll put it back on for a few days and see if it improves. I have a iloome glass protector on. Fingers crossed

I bought this one from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LXYN6ZI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It definitely isn't as nice a quality as the OEM Dot View but it does fold flatter against the back. It seems to function perfectly but does not lay perfectly flat as I have a .33 tempered glass screen protector. I'm actually think about hitting it wit a heat gun to help it out a little bit.
I would never have bought the OEM case at the price they were charging for it, but this knock off was certainly worth the $9.94 I spent on it.

I have the same case as poster above me it was surprising better than the knockoff I bought in the U.S which the inside start to peel, didn't have htc logo on it and was more money.

I paid $12.99 on eBay for a knock off case. I paid the extra 3 bucks because it had the HTC logo on front and on the back. So far it's fine.
Someone just posted a disturbing issue with the dot view case magnet leaving an 'imprint' on the screen. It's in the accessories section.
Should we start worrying about this from our dot view cases?

Any case available that doesn't inhibit 'screen edge' touching?

Like when you move an icon from one home screen to another, you slide it to the edge and wait. I've tried a few different cases and they all have such a high edge on them taht they inhibit my thumb/finger's ability to go all the way to the edge of the screen - making it virtually impossible to move an icon.
The bigger issue is that it affects my typing when trying to quickly swype through the "P" or "Q", etc.
So...anyone have a case with a very low profile..allowing your finger to glide over that are similar to a case-less phone? I rarely, if ever, see that being discussed when cases are talked about.
I too am interested in what people have to say about this. I have a 2-piece hard case i don't use because it prevents me from using Swype effectively, so i just resorted to the Zagg full-body screen and avoid putting things in my pocket alongside my phone lol
I just use the verizon high gloss black case. it's a great fit. I actually had the body glove before but moved down to this one... don't drop my phone so I don't feel a need for a huge case ya know? I can now use swype and drag effectively as well.
Is the verizon case a two piece snap on or a flexible pull on?
Try the 'ElCheapo' in my sig.. swype works GREAT with it.

The Verizon case is a one piece flexible pull on.
I does have the raised lip you are talking about but it is not as pronounced as some of the aftermarket cases I've seen.
Here is one on eBay (this is the one I bought).
Verizon HTC Incredible Black Silicone Gloss Cover OEM
Just a side note...
When moving items from one screen to the other, I find it hard even without a case. A solution that works for me is to press the item you want to move and then use the virtual trackball to move from one screen to the other.

I have never had any troubles with swype while using this case. It covers no section of the screen and grips onto the small outer edge of the phone. Works like a charm!
I also hate hitting my case when swyping the screen. I find that the argile design case from amzer.com works best for me and I've been using it for a month.

admittedly, I don't have my DInc just yet but I ordered/received the Seidio Innocase Actice II for HTC Incredible... It came with a cardboard insert that mimics the phone actually being inside of it... The edges on this case seem to be really low profile and with this cardboard insert my finger can easily glide off edges.
You can get find an in-motion view of the same case for Evo on Youtube—I can't link as I am a n00b
My DInc is coming tomorrow so I will update with results but with the silicone edges and a slight inner bevel to this I think it may be what you're looking for... case features an outer exoskeleton that protects back and corners for more protection than just the silicone material could offer.

Thanks a bunch for this. Handhelditems.com is amazing!! I just ordered two "ElCheapo" skins and a 3-pack of screen protectors with express shipping (3-5 days) shipping for $15. I've seen a good review of the screen protectors and I think I'll wind up being very pleased for the money.

the Barely There case by Case-Mate is the best i've seen thus far. I absolutely love mine. Though the face of the screen isn't protected very well, the corners and back are. Its material feels the same as the battery cover on the back of the device. It looks nice and is very comfortable.

Well, I just got my cases and screen protectors yesterday. The cases are fantastic for the price. The screen protectors on the other hand were all cut to big and left bubbles after applying them, so I'm having them send me new ones. At least it was only $4 for all three.
I picked up the Spect case from my local VZW yesterday. I had the faded black/red from vzw and I hated the sides on it.. I wanted a one piece, not a 2 piece..
well this one is friggin awesome. The sales folks working there had never heard/seen the case before and In the 30 minutes I was in the store, 4 employees bought it after playing with it on my phone and 2 additional customers bought it as well. its a one piece design and the interior is cloth so it wont scratch up the screen. I dont have an issue with Swype as it doesn't cover the front at all.
Well worth checking out...
Innocase ii here, no issues at all.

TPU Hybrid case with kickstand for Samsung Galaxy Note II (Review w/ Pics)

Once I got my T-Mobile Note 2, I searched the interwebs for a case that would protect the phone and make it less slippery. The quest was not an easy one, with barely any cases available, and most being replicas with different names. Additionally, none of the ones I saw offered protection around the corners, something that I find 100% essential on a case.
So after several hours on the general Galaxy Note II Accessories forum and several pages down the Amazon hole through multiple search keywords, I found the perfect case, for the time being. The case is a basic TPU S-line hybrid with an added kickstand. Nothing new or revolutionary, I'm sure, but given the lack of choices as of yet, a good one nonetheless.
The case protects, as commented, all 4 corners, and it protrudes enough that it lets you place the phone face down without suffering any damage on the screen. The kickstand works, though this is also the biggest caveat I've found.
The kickstand is on a hinge, and, to keep the case as thin as possible, the kickstand is embedded into the case. This wouldn't be such a problem, this happens on the Seidio Active, for example. However, the case is so thin that the hinges protrude too much out of the case, causing this to be the main point of contact with the surface when you place the phone on its back. It's irritating because one would hope a case would make the phone less slippery when placed on a surface than the original plastic, but hanging from two small pieces of plastic is not much better. There's always the placing the phone on its kickstand position, and that's fine, but don't think about pushing the phone hard on this position, or you'll cause the hinge to let you shift the phone to the "second" position, and, if pushed further, down to the ground.
The kickstand hasn't broken yet, but leaves uncertainty on how long it'll last. The black part of the case is grippy, specially on its sides, with the semi-see-through material being more slippery (though this is not an inconvenience, really).
All ports are well protected, but not covered, so no worries about echo issues like in other cases.
The kickstand is perfect for watching movies on the beautiful 5.5 inch screen.
The durability of the case is debatable. While I'm sure it'll withstand some falls, its purpose is more of a "now it'll not slip off my hands every time I pull it out of my pocket" than "let's toss this sucker from a 20 ft window"
This case more than serves its purpose, and at $5.98 including S&H (shipping from MN, USA), it should be in everyone's short list of capable though cheap cases.
If your phone is naked awaiting a case that fits your immediate needs, this will suffice. If you're looking for something that protects better, is more elegant, and of a known brand, the Seidio Active with Metal Kickstand is my #1 choice. But meanwhile, until it is released, I'd rather have this $6 case than go "naked".
I'm waiting for Amazon to accept all my images that I uploaded so I can provide you with images.
In the meantime, you can check out my Amazon Review here.
>>> It comes on either Black, Blue, Pink, Purple, White. I think I've also seen red, and I'm sure you can also find it on eBay.
>>> Black one seems to be "Unavailable".
Did it come with that screen protector you have installed?
I ordered one from china might get it next year LOL and also ordered another for a note 1, hopefully is as good as this one, I've had the S-line case on my S3 and even tho it was cheap i loved it.. you keep the slimness of the phone witch is important having a 5.5inch screen on the pant pockets isn't fun, imagine adding 1cm of case might aswell get the iDevice-mini.

Yeah I tried to do it so that the selling company was located in the US, just so it wouldn't take so long to arrive because I was holding the phone naked and it was slippery as hell.
The screen protector is a SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Screen Protector Clear Steinheil [Ultra Oleophobic] [2-PACK]
Personally, I don't think the protector is the best, but I feel more comfortable about using my phone now. The safer the better. I got a scratch on my S2 with Gorilla Glass, because I figured "oh Gorilla Glass...don't need a protector". I tried to put protector when I first got it, but failed on 3 accounts. It just didn't look good. Wore it for a while till it looked even worse and I just simply removed it. And of course... Sh*t happens.
So this time, I ordered protector same time as case. Except it is fulfilled by Amazon so it took 2 days free shipping. I think the price is high, AND I have 2-3 bubbles that don't go away. Really, they aren't bubbles. They're specks of dust, and the surrounding area does not stick to the screen. I've thought about using the second protector but...uh I don't know.
"But it's Gorilla Glass 2, you don't need protector!" Not gonna fall twice for that. "But it's gonna interfere with the S Pen!" You know what, I think from time to time it does interfere. I've noticed sometimes while drawing that I might lift the pen but it still draws on the screen. Not sure if that's due to the screen protector or not...
Anyway, best of luck. Protect your phone with the first thing you find in the meantime until you get your case!
i see there's a minor bump on the kickstand that prevents the phone from laying perfectly flat on it's back. Is there' a slight wobble to it if you lay it flat and touch one side?
I just got this case in today and Im happy with what I got for the money.

Since I got the Note 2 from t mobile on the day of launch, the store was not carrying any cases so I went ahead and ordered a cheap plastic case from ebay and ran to the sprint store where they had ONE SAMSUNG OEM FLIP CASE and purchased as well. As everybody knows, this samsung OEM case DOES NOT PROVIDE SIDE/CORNER protectio and since I HAVE NO GRIP hands, I had to have every kind of protection available so I integrated both covers. Here are some sample pics. I will keep this on until I get my SPIGEN case!!!!
p.s. I know it looks kind of ghetto but at least I am protected!!!

It really is thin. This may not be the best for you, but I'd say just because of the kickstand, it may hold you over until you find a better one. Personally looking forward to Trident Aegis and Seidio Active. There's also Otterbox...

Sorry, can't help you there. I really had no problem whatsoever putting this one in. I've taken it out about a dozen times, and I've never had issues taking it out or putting it back in. I ordered the Seidio Active case, so this one will be retired soon. But while using it, my only complaint was that the stand was not reliable. That's about it.
You might want to contact the seller and get a replacement. Looks like there's something wrong with yours. Also, make sure that all ports/buttons line up, and that they didn't send you the case for the wrong phone or some such.
Good luck!
This case is "unavailable" on Amazon but there are a million of them on Ebay, in all different colors. I got one in clear because I like to show off my phone, not the case, although I know from my old iPod case that I actually like the look of a clear glass-like edge around the sides.
I just wanted to chime in that if you get the clear version, beware that it *will* stick to the back cover of the phone. It's ugly because you get these big blobs and patches, and I found it immediately unacceptable. The case only cost me $5 so I just tried sanding it down on the inside so it wouldn't stick... which technically worked, but now it's even uglier. Yeah, I ruined it, but I couldn't see using it the way it was before. I was also concerned that over time, it'd stick so hard that I wouldn't be able to get it off. Already, whenever I'd take it off, I'd hear a "crack" as it unstuck from the back cover. I'm actually still using it after the sanding and it works just fine and doesn't stick anymore, but it is ugly.
My advice is to get a solid color version of this case if you get one, and still sand the inside of it so it doesn't stick. (Though make sure it's really opaque if you sand it; if it's clear at all, you'll see sanding marks.)
I really like kickstand cases but I'm thinking now of just getting something that gives me a little better grip on the phone (like a textured back cover) and then either not getting a case at all, or getting another one of these and hoping it doesn't stick to a more matte back cover.

No, I don't have one sorry.
I just spotted it on ebay last night and thought I would post it here as an alternative for people to consider when I saw the thread earlier
I do have it in my watchlist and may purchase later, but at the moment I'm using a FlyGrip and a plain matt tpu case
The kickstand looks a bit more flush on that one. Does not seem like there is much texture in the TPU for grip though. I will let someone else be the guinea pig, but I am curious to hear about it.

Me too, I'm very curious about this case...

They have that one in clear now too.
It looks frosted so it probably just has a matte texture that makes it easier to grip.
I found another clear TPU case similar to the first kickstand one but minus the stand and with all 5-star reviews on Amazon... found the same case on Ebay for cheaper (under 5 bucks) so I'm trying that next. If that one still creates unsightly stickiness, I'll just go for a clear hard plastic case. I've used one of those on my iPod for literally 5 years and they are surprisingly effective and look perfect.
LOL. I ordered the clear one to try out. I am so weak and have no will power.

Yep it works just fine. I like it better than the OEM even when I didn't have a glass protector. The OEM version is too springy and hard to hold open. This "knockoff" has more of a hinge and easily lays flat when folding it to the back and it's not near as springy. It does close by itself though but not as snappy as the OEM.

well, ok, I have a knockoff too (very well made, it has also all htc signs) and I'm about to order the OEM one......should I do it? If you have the oem black one, can you tell me if is really black or grey?

My OEM was grey. I broke it trying to stretch the cover to fit over my glass protector. Basically ripped the front off the back. Whoops. It's the same grey color as my knockoff. My knockoff does not have an HTC logo on it. Your call on how the case will fit and if you'll like it. Maybe see if a local sprint/verizon/att/t-mobile store has them in stock so you can look at or maybe even try on your phone?
For me I like my generic dot view case much more than the OEM. Though I can't do a real comparison since I ripped it apart and finally threw it away a couple days ago.

lol here in italy att, tmo, vzw and sprint are like american dreams....nothing like that here, htc are unknown phones (Here people think that samsung created android) and while you can find every type of cover for s5/note3 and even the old pop touch samsung, htc cases are impossible to find. so I have to buy online and risk.
and...back to thread, I don't know if I should put the 0.33 glass instead of the 0.3 I have now......
and if I can ask a suggestion, I'm looking for an open back cover (a bumper borderline would be perfect, but the aluminum one [I have 2 of em] doesn't protect the back.....so i throw them away)
ok, for anyone info, dot view works perfectly with 0.33 tampered glass, which is I think the highest working thickness
Anyone have a link for the knock off they are buying that works ok with a .30+ glass? I got two different knock off's from ebay and neither of them close properly with the iLoome glass screen protector. One I got is a generic and the other is a HTC clone (with logos etc).

Best choice for film screen protector

Now that my S7 Edge has shipped I'm in a rush to get a case and screen protector. I've never had an Edge device before and it seems like most people hate film type protectors, but that's all that's really out right now. What's the best one to get until something better comes along?
Hands down its the SuperShieldz one. I've tried Skinomi, Ilumeshield, and Spigen but they can't compare to the SuperShieldz. People have been asking me for pictures so I'll post them up this afternoon when I get home fromnrh gym. I did a quick review on Amazon which I'll link below, but it's great! I bought another set as a backup for later just in case.

Fitment doesn't look that great in your pictures, what's with the 1/8" gap at the bottom corners? Or is that a common issue with these edge devices?
I found this one with good reviews but it looks like they're mostly from tablets.

You have to remember how they need to cut these in order to have them wrap correctly. It's not possible to have one that will cover anything without some compromises. I did take more pictures which I need to upload (I'll post them shortly). The screen protector does cover 99% of the screen unlike my Spigen which only covered ~70-80%

Fair enough. Maybe I'll buy these and the ones I linked to since they're both cheap and see which is better.
Great, no one has anything in stock and my phone is going to be here in a couple days. Not even the case I want is in stock, have to get two so one comes in time.

I'm glad I bought a bunch of different ones when I did because no they're flying off the shelves. My 2nd order of the SuperShieldz that I bought as a backup won't ship until today despite ordering it last week.

Yea, and imagine living in Canada, where shipping is expensive/long from the US and there's very limited choices in Canada ?
I should have ordered last week. Figured I'd have more time with Verizon lagging behind on the pre-orders.
I just ordered some XtremeGuard screen protectors because of the huge sale, no clue when they'll get here. There's nothing on Amazon with Prime that I can order, guess I'll have to keep the plastic on it that it comes with until I get the protectors.

You can ignore my slightly misaligned install. I was in a hurry (which is usually a bad idea when installing screen protectors), so it would be perfect if I installed my second one that came in the pack.
Here are some pictures:
Whatever yall do don't buy this crap.

I bought it from tmobile store cause it was all they had but it gets bubbles at top no matter what due to the installation process. Waste of $25 and neither tmo or the maker would give me refund

Can you use a case with the screen proctector? Does it go all the way to the edge?
Looks better than the Spigen!

Well considering I'm using my Tech 21 case in that picture yes you can. I've tested it with all of my cases (see my OP in this forum) it works fine. You do have to be care with some cases and lift their 'lip' so it sits on top of the protector when inserting your phone so it won't pull it up, but once you do that there are 0 issues. That's the +/- of having a E2E screen protector for the top/bottom and sides. I'll post more of my case reviews this evening so you can see how it fits in my 7-8 cases

All,
I got the supershieldz as well. Here are a few of my observations. The film has two protective coats that have to be removed. One is the sticky side that gets applied to the screen. The second is a pin film that is on the touch side. This one was a pain to remove. To get a good fit. I removed the side and place it on the phone then took the stick tabs and aligned the bottom and top to the phone. once it was aligned I worked from a corner to pull off the pink film. its a royal pain. the paper tab comes off at times but I made it work. Once the pink film is removed I used a card to smooth out the film or any bubbles. This film is very thin and feels sticky at first but this will go away after a few minutes of use. The film will mark up easily if you have long nails. Also, it does tend to bunch up if you put on a case. This was the case with the otterbox commuter, spigen tough, vrs case and UAG. But I was able to adjust them easily. The good news is that I have been using the phone for over a week now and no lifting. I had the s6 and used spigen and finally gave up. But this one is working well.

I agree, the install is a huge PITA, but the end result is well worth it. As I mentioned cases do work you just have to ensure their lip doesn't bunch it up when putting the phone in. If you read the directions you would've seen where it said gently press out the big bubbles with the included card wrapped in a microfiber cloth. I did this and didn't have any issues getting it to install correctly despite my slight misalignment.

Thanks for the tips guys, planning on getting a screen protector as well as the UAG case, it seems like they are due to ship mid-march.

I can confirm this. I bought this from tmobile a few days ago. I have bubbles at the top and the sides are already peeling up around the curved edges.

Samsung Official Clear Cover

This is the case that is referred to as a "Bumper" and doesn't in any way cover the screen but does provide a bumper to all the edges and has a cover on the back.
It is £19.99 on Samsung's store (and elsewhere, although this appears to be the only official case not being sold by amazon currently).
I have just ordered one and wonder if anyone else has one, or considered it?
I bought the black protective cover from Samsung. It's more of a smoke cover but looks almost clear on a black device. It provides very little protection from drops but I'm usually pretty good about not dropping my phone. I like it better than the alacantara case. It doesn't go over the buttons either which is kinda nice because you get to feel the click better but doesn't offer any protection for them.

I ordered one for my Note 8, just shipped on Amazon and waiting for delivery in a few days. I have an orchid gray phone, but it seems I accidentally ordered the black one and only noticed after it was shipped. Anyway, I'll post some pictures of it when I get it here, I only considered it because I really liked the clear protective case from Samsung for the S8+ but I couldn't get that then so this time around I wanted to try an official case.

Yes, please do let us know what you think of it, I've got a spigen case with the stand but it feels a tad too bulky. Considering ordering the official sanding slim case. I couldn't tell from the pictures if it covers the top and bottom of the phone?

Ugh, I hate waiting, but Amazon seems to be taking extra long with this one (well, not really Amazon, but crappy USPS). From what I can tell of the generic picture on Amazon of the front of the device, the case covers all sides except the bottom where it's got a sort of opening for the headphone hack, USB-C port and S-Pen slot.
The official Clear Case has arrived, I ordered from Samsung directly for £19.
I am really impressed. It is certainly more of a "bumper" case, with most of the protection being on the edges of the device. It is lightweight and isn't clunky when fitted so the Note 8 still looks good with it on.
It has a plastic cover on the rear so no scratches etc when placing it on surfaces.
Obviously it doesn't' protect the screen, but you know that when ordering this sort of case.
My first impressions are it is worth the money if you want a case that primarily protects the edges and doesn't add weight or bulk to the device.

£15 at Amazon.
I like it as it preserves design.

Does it cover the bottom of the phone enough to prevent scratches? As in, are there cut outs for the ports or is the whole bottom just open?
