First of all, wrong section mate. Always post such questions in the Q/A section. I completely agree with @baran0119 on using Battery Extender kernel. But let me tell you one thing beforehand nothing can beat the stability and battery backup of the stock kernel. Then again if you want to enable other features like init.d, governors, etc you can for stock based custom kernels for stock roms. Hope I Helped
P.S. Reported to FM to move to right section.

This might be a stupid question, but do I need to change to a Gingerbread specific baseband when using cm7? or is that included in the rom?
And what are the pros/cons of getting a custom kernel?
I'm not really a hardcore user, and i'm not gonna overclock or anything.

Hi there,
I'm using CM7 on my Galaxy S with kernel 2.6.35.12-gdf10700 [email protected]#1
Can anyone please tell me if this is the "recommended" kernel for CM7?
I've read that Hardcore Speedmod kernel is meant to be the "best" but is that still the case?
Can I use any of Hardcore's latest ones listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044519
http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2011/10/samsung-galaxy-s-download-speedmod.html
because apparently they are not to be used with CyanogenMod?
Many thanks
Stock kernel is the best if you want to avoid bugs.
Do NOT flash any other kernels than those which are made for CM/MIUI.
Here are few:
Glitch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041532
Fugu: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112568
Zach's kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053304
You can try those, but for me stock is the best.
Many thanks.
I was just a little confused because Cyanogen's own wiki suggests using the Speedmod kernel:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
so I wasn't sure whether stock kernels are compatible with CM7.
So... the stock kernels (http://samsung-updates.com/rooted-stock-kernels-for-samsung-roms/) are fully compatible with CM7 then?
Thanks
It says flash speedmod because by flashing that you'll get CWM which you need to flash CM.
And no, do not use those kernels. Those are for STOCK ROMs.
When we said "stock", we meant the kernel that is included by the CM already.
Go to developement section and find topic with [Kernel][CM/MIUI] or something like that. Those are compatible with CM.
Just check links I gave you.

Got it, thanks - when you said "stock" I thought you meant the ones from Samsung directly.
In that case, I'll just stick with what CM includes and I won't mess around with them.
Thanks.

Just hit "thanks" button if I helped.
I add that to my sig.
My father has a Galaxy Note. I wanted to install the best ROM (Prefer Light/Lite size) with best Kernel which would give a Good battery life. Any advice ???
I've installed Chrack's Lite LC1 ROM (from here) Which has Franco kernel 9. But, having a few problems. Can't change Voltages for CPU (Using Voltage Control & SetCPU), The options are missing or Disabled. Having FCs while calling someone using phone dialer ("com.android.phone" FC), Network goes down & comes back later. Any way to fix these ???
Thanks...
It's all about cassie x with Franco test build . MAGIC.

Nobody can say the best rom because everything is best and it completely depends on the user what they like. For example I like darky rom very much and others may dislike it.
Maybe the OC/UV feature is not included in the kernel and there is no need for it because already the note is super snappy. The phone problem maybe due to improper flashing.Try factory reset or flash the rom again. If the problem persist report it on the rom's thread and the dev might try to solve it.

Darky roms are always super snappy and are known for better battery life.My sgs, sgsII and note all runs on darky rom only.If you want a basic install without any themes and only major tweaks go for base roms and if you need pre-themed and fully tweaked go for full rom.I'm sure you will enjoy the rom
Hello everybody,
I recently bought a galaxy note, so decided to put in a custom rom and a custom kernel.
I always love MIUI so after a bit of search i found this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738632
So i'm asking some things like:
Is that's kernel's rom is safe?
If not safe can i change it anyway with the Abyssnote who look life more secure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424/
Thank in Advane

Pick a custom rom that is simple to install. When it is complicated there is a lot of things could go wrong.

If you want to change a kernel in a ROM the safest and simplest way is to use mobile Odin.
First select the open file option, set the partitions.
Then select the kernel tab and choose the custom kernel.
Cm9 kernels and TW kernels shouldn't be mis-matched. They go only with their corresponding ROM's.
After that you can flash the firmware. You also get the chance of Rooting it at the same time.
If you are flashing ROM through zip files(Eg. Cleanote Rom) first install Rom
Then In CWM recovery choose Advanced>Reboot recovery
ONLY NOW your new setting will be active.
Then flash the corresponding Kernel of your choice and reboot.

as per the rules of XDA this kind of questions are not allowed
anyway, have a look in the specific kernel threads and read the user comments, it is hard to give you any advice because anyone will use his phone differently.
