Hey everybody!
I have a big problem! I tried to upgrade my samsung galaxy i9000 4.2.1 to kitkat, but it failed. i know where the problem was, but now, i have a different problem.
My phone doesn't want to start. when i press the power button it just pups up the intro screen Galaxy s GT i9000 and nothing happens. I can go to download mode and clockwork recovery mode.
Since the first failed attempt i have many times factory reseted, wiped cache partition and dalvik cache.
i hope that i didn't screw up my phone and that somebody will help me.
Sorry for bad english

Okay, the fact you can go to download mode and CWM is excellent. The factory reset and wiping wont fix as their isn't an OS there due to it not installing properly. Just download another ROM to your SD as your current one appears to have an error and flash through CWM.
If that fails use odin and download mode to flash stock ROM on to your phone for a usable device

To be honest its pretty much a generic tutorial for all, just download the KitKat ROM for your phone allong with its Gapps.
Now download the CWM verson for your phone and flash it like before
Once flashed boot your phone up to make sure it works, then copy the ROM and Gapps across. Now boot back into recovery and make a nandroid backup, then select the wipe data/factory reset option and the wipe cache options. Then flash the ROM and Gapps and your phone should have Kitkat

Hi
I was running rooted UK ICS 4.0.4 stock ROM this evening, when I set out to install Cyanogenmod 10.1 on my device. I went through the install procedure correctly but was unable to boot after installation. I am stuck on the word Samsung which follows the startup Samsung logo and chime.
I've tried just about everything i can think of, including using Odin to flash back to a stock ROM (both ICS and Gingerbread), I've also tried flashing other custom ROMS - all to no avail. I am able to enter Download Mode, connect to Odin and flash a stock ROM. But then am not able to boot successfully.
I am also able to enter the stock recovery if I have flashed a stock ROM and CWM Recovery if flashing a custom ROM.
So basically I am unable to boot beyond the white Samsung text on a black background. I would be very grateful of any help to get my Note back up and running, thank you in advance.
So currently what recovery do you have? And what rom did you flash in the end

Hi
In the end I flashed UK stock ICS 4.0.4 using Odin and I have Stock Recovery.
Ok. So are you getting stuck at the samsung flashing logo?

No, I am getting stuck at the static Samsung white text on black background, which displays after the initial Samsung graphic logo and sound. I'm stuck here no matter what ROM I have flashed etc. I even tried to restore from a backup I made earlier today, but even then I get stuck here - in the same place.
Download any ics kernel from this thread (zip)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Put it on external sd card. Then boot into recovery and choose "apply update from external storage". Then select the zip file. After flash, reboot into recovery and you should see Cwm. Then perform a factory reset. The reboot. Check if the phone boots.

Do you mean put a custom ROM on my external SD card? If so, I've already done this. But I will do again and see if I can perform a factory reset in CWM Rec. I will post back as soon as I have done this - thank you

I flashed a kernel from your link. I then rebooted into recovery and saw CWM. I then went to select data wipe/factory reset. The process has started, but it seems stuck. The screen says 'wiping data'...'formatting data' but nothing else is happening it appears to be stuck there.

Why you wiped on Stock ICS? Did you read all the warnings in the whole Galaxy Note section? All the ICS stock roms has a bug that erases all the emmc chip when you wipe data. You CAN'T wipe on stock rom if you dont flashed a safe kernel (like Philz) before. Sadly, you hardbricked your device. You can revive it for free with the PIT method (avaliable in the "General" forum)but you will lossabout 3gigs of space, or you can get repaired replacing your motherboard. If you are in warranty you need to say you tried to update via KIES and when the device rebooted it wont start anymore. Good luck and sorry my bad english!

Thank you for your help and advice.
I wanted to flash custom rom on my galaxy S. I flashed clean rom, then kernel with CWM, but there is a problem. Everytime I try to flash rom it ends with bootloop. I tried cm7, cm10, rootbox, miui 2.4. Every time is the same. It starts installing (only few secodns), then screen becames brighter, then restart and bootloop. I tried different kernels, roms but still same result.
ps. sorry for my english
Hi, here is a great guide to fix bootloops:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660596
Usually, doing factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache before and after intalling the ROM should fix the issue though.
I'm doing all necessary wipes, I can recover from bootloop easly but I want flash custom rom and I can't. Istalling zip lasts few second, not few minutes, there is a problem.
Sorry if this is too basic, but are you using the right ROM for your phone?
of course...
I don't know if I'll be able to help you, but can you please list the exact model of your phone just in case? You can see the different variants here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S#Variants
It is just GT-I9000. Now I managed to flash CM7.2 but if I want install CM9 or CM10 im getting bootloop and can't enter recovery mode ;o
Sorry, I can't really give you an answer with that information. If you are following the steps in each ROMs thread, you should have no problems patching as far as I know (someone more knowledgeable than me may say otherwise).
Maybe posting the exact steps you are following would help me or others to find out what the issue is.
I'm following right steps. It's not my first phone. I know how it should be but it isn't. Here are my steps:
Flash stock ROM w/ODIN v1.85 - OK
Flash CF-Root w/ODIN v1.85
Wipe Data/Wipe Cache
Phone now rooted OK
Boot to CWM Recovery
Install zip from sdcard
Select update on SDCard (cm-7.1.0 from CM site)
Flash completes in just a few seconds
Phone reboots automatically
Now stuck in boot loop
Remove battery
Go to CWM again and reflash CM7.1 zip
Now i have CM7
Reboot to recovery, facotry reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik
Flash CM9/CM10, finishes in few sec, reboots, then black screen, can't go to recovery mode ;(((
Flashing stock with odin again...and every time is the same, sometimes when I choose CM10 i see info: "Incompatible Partition Layout" so it may be the reason (something with partition, idk)
My phone has never rebooted like that, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I do know I use ODIN v3.07. I also have CWM 6.0.2.7
Best of luck finding a solution, sorry I could no be of more help.
I think CWM6 would help but I can't find this version for cm7
IGNORE ALL LINKS BELOW, they are for the wrong phone
I don't think it matters what CM you have on your phone, you should be able to upgrade CWM from recovery: Maybe not in i9000...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843825
Doesn't work in i9000 as far as I can tell: You can also try installing TWRP, which I like better than CWM and have in a different device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694617
Finally, and don't take me on this because is just a guess, maybe your bootloader is not working properly? I don't really remember how to do this myself:
You are showing me links to CMW and TWRP for i9001, I have i9000...
You are right, please ignore those links... I do know I patched CWM 6.0.2.7 through ODIN on my phone, so maybe that's the only way. In any case, I'll let you look for the actual links.
Hi everyone
First of all a little history:I used this [PhilZ-cwm6][n7000] v4.93.6 Safe Stock Kernel+CWM6+Root+exFAT+ext4-LT4 to root my n7000 on 4.0.4 (I bought it with 4.0.4).
Then after some time Android wanted an upgrade to 4.1.2 and after some time I just tried it and it failed after booting into recovery mode, because it didnt find a the expected kernel, I think. But I had the chance to boot up again.
OK I then did the update with Kies-Software and everything worked again. Then I rooted the phone again using the same method as mentioned in the post above.
Now today the phone wanted to update again, I thought, OK, if it didnt fail completely the first time, it will fail in recovery mode and let me boot up again.
But...
This time it went into recovery mode and didnt let me boot up again. It just shows the robot with the crystal and the progress bar seems to move a little but then the screen goes black for a second and the robot returns and the progress bar moves a little and the same again.... I dont get into the recovery menu.
I tried samsung kies emergency recovery, it doesnt find my n7000.
I tried to flash the kernel with a newer version from the post above. (I am not allowed to post there). No change it gets stuck in broken recovery mode.
I can push volumedown power and home to get into the download mode.
My question is what can I do?
Is there any other chance to avoid a complete stock recovery (is that the right term/way)?
What do I have to flash and how?
I am a little worried about the brick issues and I dont know which version I have to flash to set it back completely...
Please help & thanks
drz
No worries, since your download mode is still working you can flash a stock Samsung ROM via odin. Download one from here and flash it in odin while in download mode. Latest at this point of time is LT4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
This will give you the stock JB Bootloader, Recovery, and ROM. Its completely unrooted though, and the phone will not be wiped in the process, so remember to do so after you flashed it.

Thanks a lot, crownest!
I sweated a bucket of blood and seat, because I couldnt wipe cache and data first, but it worked!!!
Everything looks like before!´the update!
Some more questions (sorry):
do you think I should wipe cache and data now?
Is a stock rom like the rom on internal usbcard only?
What about the update? Can I update safely now?
Thanks again for helping...
greetz
drz
Yup you should be able to wipe cache and dalvik with no issues now.
I believe all ROMs be it stock or custom installs to the NAND memory (Someone correct me if im wrong) and never on your internal/external SDcard
As for OTA updates via Kies, I dont see why not, but if the same issue does reoccur again then my suspicions would point to a possible NAND corruption on the device. Not sure if there is a fix for that, but its a risk you gotta take. Or you can always root the phone and flash custom ROMs as new builds get released, this way you'll never have to use OTA updates again.

Mhhm,
Did you install using Odin or via CWM?
Try installing another ROM with CWM.
If that doesn't work, try to install Stock ROM back.

Stock ROMs from Samsung can be found here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Search for your device in the search bar.
Type: ''GT-I8190N''.
Download the right ROM. (Your country and eventually your provider).
Download and install Odin 3.07 (if you hadn't already).
Download and install Samsung Drivers for mobile phone. (If you hadn't already).
How to flash:
1) Go into recovery mode and perform a factory reset.
2) Open Odin Downloader.
3) Turn system off and go into Download mode.
4) Connect device to PC using USB cable.
5) Odin should recognize your phone now, if not: Check if Samsung Drivers have been installed correctly.
6) Click on PDA and add the file you have just downloaded from sammobile.
7) Make sure ''Auto Reboot'' and ''F. Reset Time'' is enabled.
8) Press start and wait untill the installation is finished.
9) Done.
If you are not familiar with this, ask me for more details and I'll explain more.

Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check the "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
You can find all the necessary details for flashing as well as all the firmwares in this link. If your PC cannot recognize the phone, its usually the drivers. Once installed, go to recovery mode and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace (just install these zip from the recovery mode),

Before you do any of these things, make sure to backup you apps. Go to CWM and do "Wipe data/ factory reset" and "Wipe Cache partition". Also go to Mount and Storage> Format /system. Finally Advanced> "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Wipe Battery Stat". Now reinstall the rom again. It might solve the issue. As for the stable custom rom, you can always go with CM 7 i.e. Android 2.3.7 based roms. CM 7 based roms are much stable than CM 9, CM 10 and CM 11 roms. As per xda rules, I cannot suggest you the best rom. But here is list of all roms for our Ace. You can flash this yourself to decide which is the best. Here is the link,
