What android version are you on? If you have an incomplete kitkat upgrade, you will get a ota to finish upgrading it.

Im on the lastest 4.4.2 firmware ne3
Everything reads ne3 in info screen

Yes check the size of the ota. It's probably a update to kitkat. That happened to me before the last full ota came out. It's was an upgrade to fix first run problems. If it's very large, you should download and extract it. That way we can see what's in it. But as far as I know. S4 Active gets no more updates.

[Q] Is 5.0 to 4.4.X Downgrade Possible?

OK, I just bought a HTC ONE M8 off eBay and it came w/ 5.0.1 as the guy did the OTA update, and I was wondering if it is possible to downgrade so I can S-OFF.

Only way to downgrade is if you're already S-off. You can flash an older software version but you can't flash older firmware.
I previously took OTA Lollipop and now I'm running stock rooted flashable zip 4.4.4 (software version 3.30.654.2) with TWRP 2.8.6.0 installed.
this morning I have a notification about software update to 3.31.654.2 (45.3MB)
my question, is it safe if I re-flash the stock recovery and take the OTA to update?
Thanks In Advance

That update is really not worth the trouble you can long press from notifications and uncheck it so that it won't pop up I asked the same thing back in Dec and left it like that till lollipop was released

do you know how to permanently disable the pop up? (delete the ota file that already downloaded)

Unable to update to 5.0 using stock recovery

Hey XDA,
So I have a stock att s5 running android 4.4.2. Im trying to update to 5.0 using the stock recover and adb sideload, but it keeps throwing an error at me saying "protocol fault (no status)"
How would I go about fixing this error? do i need to update to 4.4.4 first?
thank!
Im on baseband version g900AUCU2AND3
Edit: could i possibly adb sideload the NCE to NG3 zip found in this thread and proceed from there?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120
or would it be easier to go to a best buy store and have one of those guys do it for me...
I ended up downgrading to NCE... working my way to there now >_>
moderators, do whatever you do to resolved threads.
You have to take the 4.4.4 incremental update B4 taking the 5.0 update. You can update it through recovery but have to download the file from the other thread about updating to 5.0 and change the name to update.zip. You MUST BE on 4.4.4 first though. Also, there is no root for 5.0 yet. If you want to stay rooted I would wait on taking that 5.0 update.

Yeah, I'm running though the updates now. I really want to hit something or someone right now. Im finally at 4.4.4
Yeah it takes a while to do all those updates but all worthwhile if we get to keep the root. Are you on rooted 4.4.4 now or are you staying stock? I'm on rooted 4.4.4 and NOT updating to 5.0 till I know it can be rooted. If it never gets rooted,I guess I'll never take it. I like my root too much.

Just download the Tmobile N910T Lollipop official 5.0.1 firmware
from http://sammobile.com and use odin to flash the new firmware.
After doing that it will no longer display 4.4.4 it will display 5.0.1 as it should.
Good luck!

[Q] How many times can I OTA before its too late?

Hey ho guys. I have a 5S with the Downgrade to NCE flash found on this board. I would like to have the latest Kitkat without updating to Lollipop and getting the locked bootloader. I just downgraded today to NCE and bravely did one OTA. It got me to NG3. Can I OTA again to get OA1 or will it jump me to OC4? Or should I use one of the methods here on the board to upgrade and totally avoid OTA? Thanks, later.

If you want root capabilities i wouldn't take any OTA. You'll still have to go back to NCE to root anyhow i believe. As far as the boot loader it is and always has been locked on the AT&T S5. The only method for root is towel root and I'm not sure if it'll work on NG3. If not you'll have to go down to NCE

Yeah, I should have preference that I am after root. But towelroot works on NG3, you can read about that here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299
After I took the brave OTA I followed the threads instructions and it worked. There is a thread here that talks about root for OA1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...to-root-g900aucu2aoa1-4-4-4-2-3-2015-t3021120
It says just to take the OTA. I guess its still safe to take the OTA then after NG3? And I can't seem to find any rom on here thats stock OA1. Anyone know if I aren't seeing it? Thanks.

Most of the roms are based on nce or ng3. If you go to oa1 and flash a nce or ng3 rom your phone will be slow because of the different bootloader, and the camera is screwed up. I'd stay on ng3 and not worry about oa1. That's my opinion. I'm on 5.0 running the Twi5ted rom and having no problems with it. Most devs have moved to 5.0 lollipop and the 4.4.2 - 4.4.4 roms will be more and more abandond in my opinion.

Ah see I haven't tried any of the custom roms posted on here yet. But can I have NC3 as stock and on another ROM Slot (using Safestrap) have a Lollipop rom? Having one slot be 4.2.2 and the other be 5, basically. So the bootloader is different from NC3 to OA1, good to know. I'm glad I stopped at NC3 then. Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure on the different slots and bootloader mainly because when i used different slots the battery drain was unbearable. I don't know if they every fixed the battery drain issue when using different slots. It was bad enough that i just stuck to the stock slot and flashed only in that slot.

Root and upgrade out of country G900A

I'm not very hacky or what you call it, my know-how in this region is not very good, so I'm hoping someone here is able to help me.
When I was in USA I bought myself a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 (G900A), paid it off and had it service unlocked (called AT&T and they unlocked it for me). Then I went back to Ukraine and now I want to to be rooted... and have lollipop.
I don't know how to upgrade it to lollipop... Kies and the phone says I have the latest firmware and I cant get it updated. On top of that, I've read in posts here that if I update before rooting it, I might be in trouble later on the road.
Towelroot V3 says that my phone is not supported so I can't root it that route...
I've read tutorials here about rooting with the ND3 update... first of all, I don't know what the ND3 update is and how to obtain it since I can't update my phone OTA in Ukraine.
How do I go about this?
More information about my phone (since I learned more information about this process).
Kernel date is Tuesday July 22 2014... towelroot is said to work for any before June 3, 2014... this is probably why my phone isn't supported.
Also, is it true that Android 5.0 removes the SD Card functionality???
Well, I got it rooted... thanks to muniz_ri!
I just went ahead and risked it, not knowing what ND3 or NG3 was.
My next step is flashing it to Android 5+ ... that is if it doesn't remove the SD Card functionality
Well, I found these instructions on flashing my G900A to a pre-rooted stock lollipop... the problem I'm having is with FireFlash... I can't seem to find that app anywhere.

Thank you!!!!!
Wait, I'm confused - you say you were able to downgrade your G900A to a rooted 4.x state? I thought root was impossible once you take the 5.0 update?

You can only if you didn't take on the 5.0 OC4 bootloader and kept OA1
I didn't take the 5.0 update since I am out of the country and OTA updates don't come here... but I did have the NG3 update... so I downgraded to ND3, rooted and went back to NG3... then I flashed a prerooted 5.0 stock ROM with OA1 (I think...) and now I'm using it...
