Hi, I spent some time away from the site and the news, but now I want to flash my i9305 but I don't know which one is fastest, stable and with no bugs. At this moment I use official from samsung JB 4.3 and I want to go to 4.4
Thanks

It is not allowed to ask questions such as "Which is the best... mplah mplah mplah" according to the XDA rules. So you have to search and flash all ROMs and then decide which one suits you the best!

You should understand that it is often impossible to answer such questions, which are actually often very wrong, because they suppose everyone uses same method and values to decide what's the 'best'.
But in other side it should be allowed to discuss such questions because there are sometimes big difference in quality, and reliability, bugs etc between ROMs.
In general if you are ok with TW, you'll be fine if you check threads with active ROMs, look at how many views they have, and how long they are around and that should give you some important hints/suggestions.
If you prefer AOSP, the situation is not so great. CM was having issues with camera. It is usable, but it crashes sometimes, video is not as good as with Sammy based ROMs, which have all necessary drivers, firmware etc. But if camera and recording are not so important, you can get basic functionality to make photos and take videos, while having smoother graphical experience, more snapy and 'faster' ROM, with cleaner (IMO better.) user interface.
I like Omni better than CM at the moment. Camera seems more stable (though not totally sure, since I haven't check CM for a while.) and standby time is unbelievable. I just get around two and a half hours on screen time, with 4 DAYS of screen time (sometimes, not always airplane mode on.).

I didn't intend to be funny. Read for example this topic:http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-mini/help/best-battery-friendly-rom-galaxy-s-iii-t2807398. It was closed by a moderator and guess why.

"Best" or "Recommend" ROM / Kernel threads are not allowed on XDA.
Please test these things for yourself. That is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion,

have tried just about every custom out there with the exception of insanity and darkys roms.
Pondering both for my next flash....anyone have recommendations for which they prefer.
all comments welcome and encouraged but would doubly appreciate feedback from those who have used both.

I apologize if i am in error. I didn't realize there was any problem asking for specific feedback or recommendations on a particular rom or roms.
According to the forum rules what is wrong with my post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263#td_post_81
If i am in error please delete thread.
Just look through both Dev threads. That will give you lots of information on what people like about each one. And if you have flashed about everything under the sun flash both because chances are you will eventually.
I was just pointing out that these kinds of threads have been getting closed left and right the past few days. ROM recommendations are really very subjective. No one knows what your requirements are and how a ROM will fit them. What works for one will not necessarily work for all others. And the ROM Dev forum is really a better place to be looking.
I will add that anything i9000 based like Darky's has plusses and minuses. The plus is that you get great HSUPA speed. The downside is you get the EU flavor and features that don't work. Spelling of some things is EU, options for FFC are there but don't work.
There are many other details.... I just hope for the Captivate source/official release soon so we can get a true captivate 2.2 kernel and tools to build from.
Assonance all the way.

1. I was asking for feedback most specifically from people who has used both roms. This wasn't a Whats the best rom ever thread.
2. The developer thread definitely would not have been a place to post this and in my extensive use of the forum and reading and re-reading of the rules i fail to see how this post violates them. So again if i am mistaken...my apologies to all and i beg on the mercy of a mod to just delete the thread. (i have read both threads for the two stated roms....was hoping to hook more direct compare and contrast from users who have played with both.

lol have used assonance so i was just looking for feedback and comparison between darkys and insanity.
flashed darkys earlier and its a pretty rom but don't think i am liking it any more than Doc's or Chronus so i may give Insanity a run before going back to chronos or doc's.

hey thanks for being one of the first to post feedback thats actually relevant =)
i had went with darkys and what you said is right on. I think i still prefer Chronus Rom and Doc's most recent so will probably flash back to one of them but may give insanity a quick trial before.
So Darky's rom ported over to the Captivate as seen in this thread switches what exactly to make it Captivate-specific...just the modem, kernel and a few GPS-related modifications?

funny i had just flashed it when i saw my other favorite rom (doc's) posted an update.

Personally, I am partial to the breaded chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon. It is quite the treat, and you should only eat one per year to avoid heart conditions, lol.
On topic... I've been looking to start venturing into custom ROM's on my Cappy, but I am tempted to wait and see if Cyanogen ever devs their 6 or 7 for Captivate now that they are dev'ing for Nexus S...
I have used pretty much every ROM out there, even the ones that do not make it to the Captivate forum and so far Darkys is my usual go to ROM.
For some reason, when selecting the Gallery images, it is the only one that does not lag before going to the zoom in and out window.
I am not using Lag fixes btw with any 2.2.1 rom.
have had a chance to play with both....no more recommendations needed.

Do you have seen something in live?
On the webpage in forum i found a link where i found maximum information regards my question...
CyanogenMod is a custom ROM that is available for a number of Android devices. It's goal is to bring the vanilla Google experience to these devices, but it also brings it's own tweaks that better the experience.
The current build is running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (Build GRI40),

I inadvertently put the OP in that category due to the topic .

Can't really mention about it yet because ours(2.3.3 it is) is still a beta version, well same goes to the other too....well, it's definitely faster because Gingerbread use ext4 file, unlike RFS file like our SGS...and also some other things....oh yea, the camera supposed to have more features like brightness control, etc...the tv-like shut down feature when you relock your SGS....performance, currently, due to some bugs, it's kind of sluggish...as it is a ROM, you can customize more things than the official version, thus, it benefits the devs to tweak it some more...as you can see also, CM gives the old Android Phone the newest version of Android feel, so they won't feel being abandoned....
I don't really have much to add but due to forum posting rules I can't post on the Dev thread until I have clocked ten posts although it would seem you are able to post threads I'm other forums that are unbelievably pointless... currently running today's experimental build of cm7, seems good so far, SD mounted, camera seems less glitchy, all the radios working. Haven't tested GPS yet...

Wrong, CM7 for SGS uses the YAFFS2 filesystem.

Hello, I would like to know which custom ROM can I use, I bought a Captivate from ebay that comes with Cyanogen Mod 7.
I would like a ROM that has the best battery life and with the least bugs. I know all ROMs have bugs but I'm trying to get the one with the least bugs and that is fast and with a good battery life, or atleast a decent battery life.
I know that maybe you hate these type of questions but I really can't decide which one to use because there's a lot of them.
Thanks,
NightShack
You should read the development threads in the captivate section and make an informed decision. Also make sure You understand what you need to do coming from cm to a different rom

Try them out and find one that suits you. Because everyone has different opinions. Plus rom makers put their hard time and work to make these rom. That why these type of post are looked down on.
Well but there's a lot of them and I just wanted one that was the most bug-free and with most battery life, and I posted this so anyone can tell me at least, for example 3 ROMs or whatever, that fit the description, to just decide between those 3 and not all of them.
Find some rom that look interesting, and do like mcord11758 said read the rom threads and see what people say about them. It sounds like all you want is the outcome without doing the work.

+1 just browse and flash if you find it not to be your type then flash another ROM again then flash again till you found the one that suits your needs and wants. that's what I did when I first got my cappy.
YepYep the first few months with this phone was all out rom flashing. Just look at the forums and make sure to do your research before you flash.

If you're not familiar with flashing roms, you should start with something froyo based. They've been around longer and for the most part are more stable and less bugging. For the most part.

That is certainly not a true statement! Just because something has been around longer does not mean it is any more stable. The GB Roms are quite stable, with no more issues than what I had with Froyo Roms.
I personally like Miui the best...but the the others said, check out the development thread and take a look at all the roms offered. Many of them offer exceptional battery life and great performance. It comes down really to your general preference.
I am currently on RocketRom JB v3 but since this will be the final version of RocketRom, I am looking for the next best ROM. So far I know all of the buzz is between Ultimate and AllianceRom.
So I just want a feel of what the community think and I will go with the one everyone think is best.

ultimate is the best TW rom so far ..nothing coms close to it ..ive tried most of the TW jb roms out there but i keep coming back to ultimate,no offense to the devs but my personal choice is ultimate
Ive tried em both, And both are extremely well crafted and run perfectly.
I wouldnt say one is better / worse than the other, they are equally as great in their own way.
The only advice I (as well as many others) can give is: Try them both ! test them for several days and see which performs better FOR YOU.
So these are the two roms that are currently popular huh? Thanks for helping to reduce my reading time. I'm surprised Ultimate is a bit popular than Alliance. But this is good to know.

Thanks for your input, I actually tried Alliance first but for some reason I couldn't get it to work, constant boot loop, spent hours trying different ways to get it work but no cigar. I am currently trying out Ultimate, I am rather happy with it. I will follow your advice and try alliance rom again but probably after a few weeks of using Ultimate.
Thanks to everyone who contributed into this, by the looks of it, both Ultimate and Alliance comes really close and it is almost split in the middle of what the community thinks.
don't compare any rom on this forum, every rom has a plus and minus, you want to know what is the best one? try it yourself, and what rom seems match for you, because if you ask people here of course they have a much reason for himself why he choose "that" rom.
Thanks.

And that is what I am after, what majority of the people think is the rom "they" like best. Maybe I shouldn't of worded it as Ultimate Vs Alliance but what I want to know is statistically which rom is most popular. If people actually read the thread they should know this is what I was after at the very beginning.
Look in the development sections and see which thread have the most replies / views, they are mainly the most popular
Some have issues with Alliance, I had some myself, frequent bootloops, sticking on GT-N7000 screen and so on, but with a bit of tinkering I fixed it.
Now im using Ultimate, and it satisfies my every need, So im sticking with it Its Fast, Stable, Smooth, Rarely gets laggy and is frequently updated which is a main USP for me, I like the fact that the Dev listens to the users and is always improving on it.
But as the rest say, just try them all.. There are some wicked AOSP ROMs out there too so dont focus all your attention on TW JB Leaks, Unless thats what you prefer ?
Lots of ROMs are being developed for our device (go devs, keep them coming), some stock, others with (new) features.
Is there a place where we can compare these ROMs based on their features?
Scanning all the threads, doesn't really give a clear view.
I know the best way to know what a ROM is all about is to actually try it, but a comparison chart would provide a nice shortlist to start from.
Read the op of each rom thread? Usually tells you the features.

Some do this better than others. Many make you go to their website & click around till you find something. Others list a bunch of stuff that many of us have no idea what most of them do. So a thread / wiki that gives the character & main features in a simplified way would be very helpful and welcome.
As great as the idea seems. Making a wiki or a video for a rom gets outdated quick. Roms and kernels are always changing day by day, new features are being added and removed.
The best advice I can give you is that, download the roms that interest you. If they interest you, flash them and give them a try for 10-15 minutes without installing all of your apps. If you happen to not like the rom, simply do a nandroid restore to a previous backup.
The roms in original development tend to make their own code and development tends to kang code (use code from others).
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Time sure is a factor. And agreed, ROMs and their features could change fairly quick.
Trail and error (so to speak) would still be the best way. As a new Nexus user I'm not familiar with the "popular" ROMs and their devs, so it's pretty overwhelming with all those ROMs to choose from.
If only there was a uniform way to setup the OP for each ROM on XDA.
Thanks for chiming in guys!

One of the ways you can see if a ROM is popular is by the number of posts and views in that thread as well as how active it is. Some of the roms have YouTube videos for the kit kat version or even lollipop so that can give you a jist of the rom.
