[Q] How can I move my apps to internal memory? . - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't have an external sdcard. My phone has a lot of
internal memory free. How can I move my apps to
internal memory? Is that possible? BTW, I am using the
latest carbon 4.4.4 r2 build (i9070). Because our phone has only 2gb of application(phone) memory.

Yes, but one game is around 50MB maybe (APK), you do not have 40 games?. Its data uses internal memory (that 4GB). Maybe that memory is full, not that 2GB.

If you want just to move games (big games),then i suggest you Directory Bind

I am using SGSA I9070 16gb variant. Application memory is 2gb. I have got more than 5gb of internal memory free. Hence i am not using an external sdcard. My application memory is 75% full. So I am asking about moving my apps or part of them to internal memory.
Sorry! Moving apps to external sdcard is not an option for me, as i don't have an external sdcard. So please don't point me towards instructions about moving apps to external sdcard.

In 4.4 janice/codina ROMs, there's the flag dalvik.vm.dexopt-data-only=1 as default in build.prop (yeah it's named dalvik but doesn't matter what runtime are you using). This means that data partition contains user apps' classes.dex+system apps' (including gapps, more complete gapps package=heavier=more space occupied+more dalvik cache) classes.dex, where as default is data partition=user apps' classes.dex/cache partition=system apps' classes.dex
For example:
40~50 (maybe more) apps installed (including their classes.dex) 1.8~1.9 GB
25 apps installed+that flag in build.prop = out of memory
Just in case: classes.dex = ART/dalvik cache-executable

[Q] App2Ext on Milestone - CyanogenMod 6.1.2 - 0.12

Hello guys!
I have a Milestone and I'm using the CM6 ROM from milaq which is pretty good!
It has the scripts to make App2Ext works built in: 05mountsd and 07app2ext.
I partitioned my sd card like this: 6 GB to FAT32 and 2 GB to EXT3.
Just this and everything works, because I saw the "/sd-ext" in the ES Explorer. When I installed some apps at "Internal Memory", this apps appeared inside the "/sd-ext" folder.
But, some things seems to be strange for me:
1. When I went to "Seetings > SD card & phone storage > Internal phone storage", the "Total space" doesn't change. I mean, the "Total space" from "Internal phone storage" continued with 197MB like before activate App2Ext. Is this right? The space from ext partition shouldn't be understood as "Internal phone storage"?
2. The phone seems more unstable. I had some reboots when I was installing some apps and sometimes some widgets doesn't load. Is it normal?
3. My method is it ok? Just to create the ext partition. Should I make some other things?
Thanks!

That's probably becoz dalvik-cache is moved to ext partition as well. Milaq's CM6 uses CM7 app2ext which leaves dalvik cache in internal memory and only moves data apps to ext partition.

I need your help guys: For the first time I need to install many apps and the 190MB aren't enough. So I wanted to use apps2ext. Since I've never used it before I don't know where to start. (Format card, what to install then, if any scripts are needed, etc.)
Is there any guide somewhere?
Sorry if this has been answered before (I'm pretty sure it has... )

You don't need to do anything. The rom has app2ext built-in. You just need to create the ext partition.
Also note that CM7 based roms don't move the dalvik-cache to ext partition. You need to modify the script to do it. I have posted a modified script for that in the same thread. Check the last 2 pages.

But the internal memory kept dropping every time I installed an app. w 70 apps my int mem only had 19 megs left. But my ext partition still had 100 mb left (verified using free space- krikun). Please help cuz I cant install any more apps

[Q] Changing default path for installation apps

Hello guys,
I'm sorry if this was a repeated question.
But i was wondering how we can change our default installation path on galaxy note?
Because the problem is everytime i download something from google play, its installed in the phone memory which is only around 1,5Gb
What's the use of 11Gb that we had on usb storage then? Can we somehow change the default path to usb storage?
And i don't want to use external SD card. I think that's all, thanks guys! Waiting for your respons!

I've tried that and it refers to the original function of move to sd card from the application settings. And it didn't work it says couldn't move not enough storage space and its because i dont have any sd card insert.
Therefore 11Gb usb storage only useful for extended game data and photo or music?

Using App2SD you can only move some part of an app to the 11GB (called as SD card or internal SD) memory..also, you cant move each & every app, since some apps needs to be on the Phone memory (memory which shows ~2GB)..I am using App2SD to reduce the load on Phone memory..it wl b useful for apps/games, especially which r bigger in size..what I believe is the more you keep the Phone memory free, the more faster your phone will be..

Thats a better option..buy a 32GB memory card & move all the stuffs like movies, music, photos, docs etc etc etc to it..use 2GB+11GB (in built memory) only for apps, games & their data..

Its really simple ,1st you flash this recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=18061 , then you https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24499762635999029 install this trought this new installed recovery , and you now have 6gb memory for installing apps, and 7gb on sdcard0
data=6gb (means +4gb for apps)

Thanks a lot, I'll check foldermount.
482 mb free
I have 482mb free on my internal storage , and I use ex. card but it's obly 2gb so I'm planing to buy bigger one
Finally I tested Foldermount : this is the only app I could use with success to move apps to the SD card ...
So thanks a lot for this information !
But I have one question : I could not find any tutorial about Foldermount, the only way I know how to move apps is to select the app folder and the destination app. This is not very friendly ... The S3 mini is for my girlfriend, I need something as simple as possible (she's not a geek ...).
On Foldermount there is a menu which displays all your apps, but when I select one, the buttons (source or destination) remain grey (unusable) and there is an error message saying something like this app may already be linked to sdcard ...
Is there a tutorial about foldermount ?
Is there a way to use it without the need of selecting each app folder to move ?
Is there a way to just select the app and ask to move it to sd card ?
Thanks

Foldermount doesnt move apps to external sd, but link folders from internal sd to external sd.
I still find it very usefull to link download folder and other things like GPS maps. You can also link those game obb files that get stored in your sd (Android/obb) and free up alot of space if you play games.
You can read the original thread here.

To my point of view, it does move the app to external SD as it moves files to external SD and then create a link in the internal memory to external SD.
If it wouldn't move data to external SD card, this application would have no interest.
The only problem for me with this app is that to use it, you need to know in which folder of your internal memory the app has been installed. It's not very easy for everyone. It would be better if when Foldermount shows the list of your apps, you could just select it and then move it to SD.
This feature seems to be existing but does not work for now. Maybe in a later release ...
Anyway, this is the only "move to SD" app I tried which is working fine with the S3 mini.

Thanks but I already tried this, it does not work : the S3 mini does answer correctly to the ADB commands, it says it's now configured for external storage (2) but when I install an app it still does it on the internal storage ...
Really, I tried many different methods, only Foldermount worked.
DirectoryBind with only one link: /sdcard/Android to /storage/extSdCard/Android
Device should be rooted.
Also, in DirectoryBind preferences you need to enable Bind on boot and Alternate dbase mgmt.
That's all you need. All apps data will be stored on external sdcard including cache of games.

The same can be done with foldermount, and it's still maintained with updates which dirictorybind isn't.

For what you need an updates of DirectoryBind? It does not need any update because it smooth and fully working. Atleast, on 4.1.2.
For 4.2.2 we need to switch to FolderMount or manually add mount to init.d
With FolderMount you cannot mount sdcard/Android, you need to mount each cache folder separately.
Maybe it is fixed already in latest version, dunno. If yes, then I will switch to FolderMount too =)
With "destination folder check" unticked in settings it works fine. Maybe it's a pro feature.

Thanks a lot for this great information ! I was linking the apps directories one by one ... Now I understand you can link the whole apps directory just once ... Great !

Finally I tried to link sdcard0 to sdcard1 : it seems to work if I look at Foldermount status, but in reality it does not copy anything to the SD card ... This is strange ... Plus after having linked sdcard0 to sdcard1, I cannot remove this link : it says a copy is running and I cannot stop it. In reality nothing is copying, so I need to uninstall Foldermount to remove the link ...

[ Request ] External storage "swap" with internal for Xperia Z1

Please try to make a mod
External storage "swap" for Xperia Z1. that will be safe for z1
So that we can make external SD card react as our internal storage by doing this we can directly downloads every thing on our SD card and can install more HD games.
Usually 1 HD game have 1GB to 1.5 GB Data and 5 to 6 games fill up all 11 GB available Internal storage in our device, but if we exchange our internal storage with our SD card than we can fulfill our requirements by using a 32GB or 64GB Sd card

Right now I am using Gameloft to SD app for moving all my games to SD card
1) First fix your remount reboot error get it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317432
if you did not have recovery then use windows.exe installation method. Rooted device is requied
2) Download GL to SD app from play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slf.ListglApp&hl=en
move your games data
3) After moving data you can play games by this method only
3.1) open GL to SD app
3.2) you will see two button on top right side, first button is mount and second one is for unmount
3.3) press the mount button
3.4) Now click on play button which ever game you like to play
4) after close the Gl to SD app all the folders unmounted, so if you want to play again you have to open GL app again and mount the games.

does External swap has anything to do with the RAM?
Swap is normal terminology for offloading the least used data to slower drives. I suspect that the op is asking for a way to use the memory card as internal storage, and vice versa.

Sorry I could be very wrong here, in that case sorry. I thought OP was referring to making a swap partition on the sd-card and using that as swap. I've seen people do this on 'low-RAM' devices to increase multi-tasking a bit. That's why I wondered what he was up to since he has 2 gigs of RAM.

yep he's looking to swap internal storage with ex-sd, I would like to be able to do that too, I have like 2gig left on internal and a 64GB card only being used for camera, photos, videos and very little music
was using that on the XZ but I stopped using it for some reason, don't remember what it was

Hmmm well you could try simlinking your internal storage to your external sd-card, or only do it for specific folders. I never tested this by the way so I have no idea what could happen if you do this, but it's an idea.
Thank you as well by the way!
I am not asking a Ram increase swap mod i am asking for internal storage swap with external storage Mod

I tried Folder Mount with that fix, but can't get it to work.
The linked folders will mount, but when launching the moved games, it is asking to download additional files again.
The files from the Install.bat of the fix have correctly installed on my phone as well.
So not sure what is going on.
Can you play moved game successfully on your phone?

FACTORY RESET SHOULD FIX THAT. POSSIBLY THE MOUNT POINT CHANGE MADE THE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED APP EXIST, BUT UNSEEN.
OR IF YOUR MIND IS AS STRONG AS YOUR CAPS LOCK, TRY MOVING YOUR PREVIOUS ROM'S INTERNAL TO THE CURRENT ROM'S MOUNT POINT.

hAVE YOU DONE ANY CWM BACKUPS? I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH IT, ALL MY BACKUPS WENT TO SOME WEIRD FOLDER IN .../STORAGE/ INSTEAD OF THE SDCARD, THEY TOOK A LOT OF SPACE AND WERE HARD TO FIND

I second that. had this happen to me.
I've had something similar, but for me it was incomplete downloads being cached in the the internal storage - a few roms, an attempted firmware download and there was 1.5GB of stuff that I couldn't immediately locate.
One of my favourite utility apps is called Disk Usage - this gives you a visual representation of what is taking up space on your SD cards (so bigger files/folders are large on the screen), I forget the exact name of the folder but thanks to this app I could quickly work out what was taking up so much space.
And some versions of CWM do seem to hide the back up somewhere not obvious - my average back ups are betwen 1.5 and 2GB so one or two of these will eat up most of your internal storage.
