I don't know if this has been posted before, I searched around but couldn't find anything on it. I don't know if this is a sign of a new nexus coming soon, but I just had to do a RMA on my nexus 5 because the screen is turning white at the top, and when i asked if i would be getting a refurb phone as a replacement, he said that 2 weeks ago google switched to using nothing but refurb phones as replacements for the nexus 5 because it is now classified as "out of production" in their internal systems. It sounds to me like they are ramping down production in preparation for something new, but it might also just be their excuse for going to using refurb phones as replacements lol.
well, expect a new nexus in october/november, and its not that far away..

Yeah that's when one is expected, I just thought it was a interesting piece of info with all talk floating around about the nexus line being fazed out, they woulding be putting it as "out of production" unless something was taking it's place soon.

Well I have to say, the Nexus 4 forum is a great example of 98% of people only posting on the internet when they are unhappy!
Never seen so many complaints about a phone before.
It's simply because the people that doesn't have problem are enjoy their phone
Also, is pointless to open new topic for just saying that the phone is amazing

You obviously haven't been on an iPhone forum
I must say it's quite horrific when you're looking to buy the phone and you see a thread entitled yellow tint and a thread saying nexus came with scratches and another one that says don't leave your nexus on any surface lol! I've never seen so many issues with a device. Really putting me off wanting to buy it now.

I started a thread saying people should wait 2 weeks to order to see if the early adopting test dummies have problems. People went off at me like I was crazy
Look at the test dummies now
It happens all the time, no company excluded. The firsts batches are always flawed, beacause of this never buy anthing on the day 1.
It seems like there are not serious problems yet,
-rattling: not a real issue most people probably wouldn't even recognize if others weren't pointing it out.
-yellow spot on screen: Doesn't seem like a common problem, only 2 or 3 people here seem to have this problem until now
You usually post with issues. About 95% have nothing to say!

- Battery life is terrible
Its a basic principle of statistic. Put a survey box in a restaurant, only angry people will fill it. When you say something is perfect, it asks for this answer : OK.
OK. Does not help progression, advancement or amelioration.
Besides, we are in the self-entitlement era.
Issues which will keep me away from buying at the hissing from the speaker and the yellow tint (which i havent seem many posts on).
Glad I didn't get one on launch day
And you guys the people posting here are not people with 1 posts. They are members who have been around for a long time who were exciting to buy the phone and are reporting the issues with it.

Well...my nexus 4 doesn't have any issue, plus I've never seen an android so fast...
Also, are you sure that second batches are 100% without defects?

Nothing will be without defects
But usually the first batch is made hastly, because they need to creato more stocks for the first day (even though weren't enought ) and have less quality controls
Plus, as many times is been said, rattling is not an issue, is part of the autofocus in the camera and you can hear it in every moderns smartphone, including iPhone 5, 4s, hox and s3

I've not seen any "real" widespread issues reported here that would make me hold off on ordering this phone. Whether you order it today or 3 months from now it's still going to slip off of your uneven dining table lol.

I've had my Nexus 4 since Thursday morning, everything is spot on. No weird yellow tint, no issues what so ever actually. Battery life is acceptable enough for me, it pulls a day with heavy use, beyond that I don't give a toss.
Other than that it runs everyone like a boss, silky smooth and everyone that's had a play with it so far has tried to jizz on it.
Phil
It's actually refreshing for a change to hear something positive about the phone from a user!
I ordered 2x16GB Nexus 4s on the 27th. I received them on the 7th, but both have overheating issues (overheats and turns off with about 30 minutes of Temple Run gaming).
I placed RMA requests for both Nexus 4s, yet to receive them though.
Now I seem to have lost/misplaced both the Nexus 4s.
What will happen next? I understand that I will get charged for the replacement phones, but won't be refunded since I cannot mail back my current defective devices. But my question is, will the defective devices still be remotely disabled, or if I do find them at some point, can I still use them?
You called to return 2 phones because they shutdown from playing Templerun? Then you lost both phones before returning?
My guess is they will just keep the repay hold on the RMA if you don't return the phones. They charged you? Right?
I guess they will disable them if you report them stolen or lost..
Dude, no offense but returning a phone because it has issues with one game seems extreme.. Also.. How could you misplace 2 brand new phones? I do not understand at all..

you cant possibly 'misplace' 2 brand new phones...

Yes, that is correct. They get pretty hot, much hotter than my GS2, but that would be fine as long as it doesn't shut down and stuff. Maybe I just got a bad batch. Screen gets yellowish after a while too.
I haven't been charged yet. Maybe they'll charge me when they ship out the replacement devices?
Might sound totally silly but I put them back in their boxes after requesting them to be RMA'd. I can't find the boxes now. Must be in my house somewhere, but I've looked every place possible but I can't find them..
I'm with these guys. My N4 was barely out of my hand for the first week after I got it, how could you lose 2?!!!
Also, did the overheating problem present itself when playing other games or doing anything demanding? It sounds like the game might have just needed an update or reinstall. I don't think Google will do anything remotely to those devices unless you actually ask them to.
I'd start turning the house upside down to find them phones though, RMA requests don't last long.

Doesn't sound silly so much as it sounds like you were trying to get more phones without having to wait for a normal purchase. My only real question is whether you still have them or if you sold them?

I always loved flashing different ROMs for my phone, that's the reason I'm always buying nexus line.
Now with this pre order fiasco, do you think the development scene will be as good as the nexus 5?
Firstly, it's much more expensive, lesser people would want to brick their new phone.
Then there's not many who manage to buy it, if there's no developers, it would not be a popular phone as the nexus 5 to build ROMs for.
What you think? Did Google kill off the third party development scene?

Well, there was't many people getting the first patch of Nexus 5 last year either.
And there will always be the second round, and the third.
There could be more development as vzw and att have the phone and they traditionally have had locked bootloaders....
I will expect custom ROMS to arrive quite quickly to be honest........
Actually i did not have any problems buying my nexus 5. And I'm in the first batch
But isn't the development an international effort?
Most of the developers i know does not comes from the US
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Its both and most development is international for nexus but it doesnt matter as the phone is the same .... locked bootloaders on devices means that people will start migrating to nexus or dev edition like note 4 on vzw ...,
I think you're getting ahead of yourself here, and asking if google killed off the development scene is pretty ridiculous. The phone isn't even out yet. There was no "fiasco"... they sold out of their initial preorder stock, oh noes! We all knew it was gonna happen. It's not like they won't be widely available in a short amount of time. It's a Nexus device, there will be plenty of development. The only cheap Nexus phones were the N4 and N5, the rest all had premium price tags and there was plenty of development for all of them. Just sit back, wait for the phone to actually come out, and I promise from the bottom of my wittle heart, development will pick up.

It's not just you, bud... EVERYBODY is. I'm pretty sure my neck is sprained from shaking my head so much at all the things people have been whining about. Everybody needs to just chill out.
Just look at the dev sections for previous Nexus devices, GNex, N4, N5...........some of the most active development on XDA.
Lack of development will NOT be an issue for this device.
Nexus6 and XDA development go hand in hand!

There is a very big difference between locked bootloader for nexus and one on say the vzw note 4 ....the nexus unlocked by "fastboot oem unlock" but bootloaders on lg some samsung phones etc are locked and encrypted ie usually very hard to unlock if at all. ..

If you follow the nexus line. The pre order is always like this. I had first batch in n5 and development was still quick. Especially with lollipop, I will get used to it and before you know it I will be flashing.

This must be your first nexus device and first time in the scene (so I will hope). Stop over thinking it
No just head over and look at the M8 development forum. There's plenty of development there. And regardless Id still be scared of bricking a $350 phone as much as a $600 phone
I'm looking to buy the new Nexus phone coming out soon, but the marketing confused me.
They are saying the new Nexus phone will be out soon (few months)., When I google, I get Nexus 6 coming soon from 3 different manufacturers. Are they small upgrades like apple does or are they a whole new game ?
Are they keeping the name Nexus 6,or is it going to called something else, like Nexus 7 ?
Thanks

You are confused. Nexus 6 was released in November 2014. Since then there was not a single mention of what and when will replace it. Period.
If you want to go along with rumor mill. It is your choice.
Nothing wrong with marketing.

at the prices that its available for nowadays, its VERY MUCH worth it. as it still butts heads with the best of ths smartphones
and i think that i remember you, either from the g1 or nexus one..
Until another 6inch AMOLED phone comes along, I'm never giving up my n6.
Eh, I love my Nexus 6 for many reasons, but honestly, I got an lg g flex 2 for a really good deal and switched back to a "carrier phone" and man, as far as processors, night and day difference. Now I haven't really run into the overheat thing that plagues the sd810. But day to day things, even just restating my device is snappier. The only thing I will say, not having access to update whenever I want (at least when google gives us factory images) sucks big time. I forgot how bad it is to wait on carriers/manufacturers

I know I remember him. We both had, or have in my case, the Dell Streak. Just to briefly reminisce, more than a few of us loved that device to the point we swore we'd never go back to anything with a smaller screen. Keep in mind that this is 2010-2011, when the average screen was between 3 and 3-1/2 inches. In 2011 5-inch screens weren't common and unlocked devices sold directly by the manufacturer were unheard of. The Streak had both, but poor marketing and flawed expectations on Dell's part helped kill it.
Take a look at the development pages... It's a Nexus! There's still work on the GNexus
tApPeD fROM mY nExUs 6
All. Rom developers waiting for official N firmware to upgrade their Roms . After that all Roms will be active.
