what can i do to diagnose the problem? it just started happening.
i charged it over night after being almost depleted and when i woke up the tablet wasn't on. i held the power down for 30 s, i held power volume up for 30 s, i held power volume down 30s....
nothing worked. i put it down for a bit and just kept pressing power on button in rapid succession and it finally booted up. after i got in and played for about 10 minutes it powered down and i had to push the power button fast again to get it in. then it shut off again.
edit: i powered it up again and just turned the screen off. came back 30 minutes later and it shut off again
any suggestions? should i try to reflash?

"Zombie mode" pseudo-brick: Any way to beat this than waiting for battery to die
So once when I tried NF on eMMC, something went wrong and my device got stuck in what I thought was total bricking. It couldn't be turned on, it couldn't be turned off, it just seemed to be dead. Didn't respond to anything including adb.
So I took it to B&N and feigned ignorance, and he believed me because he couldn't make it work either. Then he plugged it back in, and suddenly it indicated that it was charging on the screen.
I think what happened is that it got stuck in some mode where its screen is off, the device is active (probably sleeping), but it won't respond to the keys. This is what ALSO happened to me with my new NC after flashing CM7.
Has anyone else seen this happen with their device? Do I just have to wait for the battery to die and then plug it in with a CWM SD card in the slot? Is there no other way? GOD I wish this thing had an actual "cut the power" or "reset" switch
Sounds like SOD(Sleep of Death).
You'll have to hold power until you think it's off(just hold it for like 30 seconds), then reboot it by holding power again.

You, sir, are a genius. Thanks.
I just had this happen yesterday. I was trying to flash the 1100MHz kernel for CM7, got an "Installation Aborted" message, tried rebooting, and nada. No combination of holding or pressing any buttons for any length of time has fixed it. I plugged it in overnight to make sure that it was charged, but that didn't fix anything. I can only boot into CWM via microSD, and that's only after holding down both VOL, N button, and Power, then rapidly tapping Power until the screen flashes.
I just called B&N and they're shipping a new one out. No idea what's up...
I was using my atrix and put it down went to get something to eat came back 15mins later and it wont turn on! It was at 56% battery! So i plug it in and the green LED turns on but I can't do anything. I have pressed the power button, and I have pressed the power and volume down together both for 10+ secs and nothing is happening please help!
Ever get it back on? My battery drained to 1% last night, so I shut it down, charged it all night, and now mine wont turn on. Has the green light just like yours.

I had to reboot mine in to flash mode in order for mine to come back up. I had to hold the down volume (or up cannot remember right now) + power for a minute nearly. Then it rebooted correctly into normal mode.

So I ended up calling AT&T and they went ahead and shipped me a new MAHD.
I took the dead phone to work and tried charging with my work charger, and now it works! When it finally turned on, the battery level was at 3%. So lesson learned: Do not let your battery drain to 1%!

I am having the same problem. I can get the boot screen up if i hold the buttons in at a certain time while the phone is plugged in and attempting to turn on. however, the phone cuts out no matter what and repeats the cycle even with the boot screen up. during the few seconds i can get the boot screen up, i'm unable to select an option, only scroll up or down and highlight them. then the phone cuts out and 20 secs. later attempts to turn on again but never gets past the motorola icon. Any suggestions? I originally thought it was the battery so i ordered one and installed it correctly and charged it, but still the same thing is happening. When plugged into a pc, charge light comes on but phone won't attempt to turn on....?????????

Our phone doesn't receive power from the cable until it's fully booted. Factory cables are a good work around.

I have the same problem.
I think it's impossible to fix.
I tested with original charger.
I have also tried every possible button combinations.
and does not start
Has anyone been able to fix it?
Hey Guys
I installed ARHD 41 a few days ago and everything was working fine. But since yesterday I get some random shut downs when my phone is in my pocket. When I pull it out its dead. No way to get it back on without having a charger around. When I plug it in, a few seconds later the notification light goes on and I can start the phone with the power button.
But just an hour ago it happened while laying on the table and now even the charger way isn't working. No charging light when plugged in, no response on PC or Mac.
Any tips around?

I got it started by holding VOL UP + DOWN, plugged the charger in and then pressing the power button.
Multiple reboots were possible. :good:
But after I pressed the power button to lock the phone, it was dead again
No success with the combination above.
Guess I have to try another ROM when I get it back on somehow

Now its completely dead. nothing work, no LED, no flashing buttons, nothing
My Nexus 6 crashed yesterday (around 70% battery) while listening to music and surfing the net. I've tried
- letting it charge over night
- turning in on by holding down the power button for over 30 seconds
- booting into CWM recovery
When it is plugged in, the charging icon blinks (the black and white battery with a thunderbolt inside). I can get it to stop blinking if I hold down the power button for 5-7 seconds while it's still plugged in.
Any suggestions on getting this phone back alive or is it totally bricked?
huh? there's no cwm recovery for the nexus 6. maybe you meant twrp? anyways, does it boot into recovery, or even into the bootloader?
Yeah sorry I meant TWRP. No I can not get in to either.

try holding down your power button, for about a full minute or so. then try plugging it in(wall chatger) and trying again.

I got it up and running after a couple of days of leaving it charging and repeatedly trying what you guys suggested (holding down the power+volume for over 60s).
It had been working for a couple weeks but just crashed again last Friday night (Feb 27th) and it won't boot properly again.
Now what's happening is I can get into the bootloader while it's charging but as soon as I unplug it or select Start it crashes.
I'm returning this phone now but would like to get my personal data off of it. Any suggestions?

My Nexus 6 is dying at around 17% battery. I've tried using battery calibration apps to fix it but they haven't worked. I've also factory reset, and went from LMY47D to LMY47M, both of which would die at 17%. Any suggestions?
What you mean by die at 17%?
Does it shutdown automatically at 17%, and you can't turn on by pressing power menu. Right?
Then how you overcome from this situation? By charging your device again?
I had a similar issue. This helped:
1. Power off your phone.
2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons. This will put the phone in fastboot.
3. Use the Volume buttons to scroll through the menu until you see "Bootloader logs"
4. Press and hold the power key for a long time (7+ seconds) until the phone reboots.

The phone shuts down at 17% and when I try to turn it back on, it shows the battery dead icon and won't turn on. After charging it for about 30 seconds it'll turn back on and say it has about 18% battery.

It seemed to work for me. Phone drained to 5% and automatically shut down. Charged it to full without booting, so if it still behaves, it fixed me.
How did you discover this "fix"?

I can't remember, sorry. It was whether here on xda or on google forums.
For me this issue started after I used my (original) Nexus 5 Qi charger with my N6. Almost the same problem as you described but on my N6 it was 17 %. Tried the workaround mentioned above, sold my N5 with the Qi charger and the problem disappeared. It's been a while now. Guess 2 months...

I tried this again, this time holding the power button until "Google" appeared on the screen (The first time I let go when the screen turned off) and it seems to have worked! I'm on the second cycle now and the phone reached 0% the first time and I'm at 12% now.
Good news! Hopefully this will last.
Btw: do you use the original turbo charger or a qi station?

thanks, i know the trick now. I had to scroll to bootloader log, press power once, then long press the power button for reboot. it'll turn off the phone if i did not press power once, i think.
that's what happened to me.
I have the same problem though my phone powers down at varying percents (15-60%) all well above the level where the batter should be expiring. I Googled and found a number of suggestions. None worked including the "Bootloader Logs". My phone will power down 2-3 times a day. Finally called Google and asked for a replacement.

Stop using the Qi charger for a while and retry the workaround. Don't charge your phone with a Qi station for the next few days - just to verify whether Qi is causing your problem or not.

I may not make it much farther than the end of the week testing since I RMA'd this back to Google.
Can verify I charged overnight on the included charger.
I have had two power downs so far today.
These however did not require me to plug into power in order to turn the device back on.
Did a complete system wipe. Within two hours the phone completely powered off on its own (about 37% power displayed). Set the phone up as new -- did not restore prior apps. Replacement is on the way.
FYI:
Last weekend I accidentally charged my N6 with my friends charger. Guess what happened? My phone started to randomly shut down. I went through the workaround steps again and fully charged my N6 with the original turbo charger and - surprise, surprise - no more shutdowns.

I don't have the link, but I found a google support thread on this issue. The bootloader trick apparently clears the battery stats.
I am guessing that some 6's don't play well with non-stock chargers and that causes reading issues, leading to over charging and battery life messed up, my phone was fine, then it started acting up again. I haven't seen a permanent fix for this and plan to RMA my phone.
