[Q] SOL23 japan ver. z1 problem - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys.
im using a japan version Z1 called SOL23 with sim unlocked, and tha im living in China using China Unicom which using LTE(2100)/WCDMA/GSM network.
here is my problem.
with stock ROM, 14.3.C.0.239, android 4.4.2, i can not using LTE with its setting 'Oversea auto', which described as "LTE(prefered)/UMTS/GSM‘,(actually i found its "WCDMA(prefered)" if not checking "data roaming", but even checked data roaming and confirm that in settings.db that its "LTE/WCDMA/GSM", it still cant get LTE network, and wcdma data is also dead. there's cross mark on signal bar. but when calling someone it turns 3g signal on but soon after the call goes nothing again. cant revieve calls either.).
then i found on this page http://htcsoku.info/htcsokudev/rudimentary-knowledge/au-gaga-sol22-simunlock-howto/
that the roaming lte freq is only 1800mhz.
im sure thats not hardware problem 'cuz i can flash HK version of C6903 (14.4.a.0.108) with flashtool(exclude everthing but kernel and system) and use LTE network fine(got 2.5MB/s downloading speed with only 1 bar signal amazing), phone call, sms, everything is fine except NFC and Infrared.
i'd like to get a perfect z1 so can anyone help me crack the japan ver ROM 14.3.C.0.239 to use LTE normally or make NFC(i guess its Felica ver) work on global version? with much thanks.

It can be the problem. You need to know many HK network carrier does support both 1800LTE and 2600LTE. I've not heard any China LTE running at 1800mhz yet?
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=4935&view=1&c=sony_xperia_z1_lte_sol23_sony_honami_anna
I think your phone only run at LTE1800, 1500 and 800.

u just misunderstood.
i said im using LTE 2100 and that japan ver. ROM support LTE2100/CDMA(Japan LTE/CDMA mode, and in this mode LTE is working but due to my WCDMA sim this cant make phone calls or send/receive sms) and LTE1800/WCDMA(not sure, work only when call others)/GSM(Oversea auto mode with data roaming) and WCDMAprefered(confirmed Oversea auto mode without data roaming).
the attachment shows my phone using HK C6903 ROM with LTE network.

or if u cant understand japanese try this page http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=4935&view=1&c=sony_xperia_z1_lte_sol23_sony_honami_anna
i didnt notice u've post same page..
that LTE2100 is ahead of CDMA2100 that u may not notice lol.
thanks for reply anyway

oh yep, I didn't read it carefully because many JP models indeed their hardware only capable to do 1800mhz and in your special case, this time the hardware also works for 2100mhz but since Japan only used 1800mhz so it looks like they locked it at 1800LTE now.
You can try just flash the HK firmware baseband but if it locked in the /system side, then you will need someone to hack it.
Just a quick question, any special stuffs in the JP rom?

not much. a "close all" button on app tab, wallet based on Felica NFC chip, Infrared support(someone said flash global ver still availible), and plenty of oem apps, and much slower upgrade(4.2->4.4.2 docomo ver 2014/6/26, au ver 2014/8/5).
i tried to flash only baseband using flashtool but it shows error, and in fact i should keep my japan baseband ver to get signal in HK ver.(exclude baseband in flashtool).
i dont know whether those doing z1 android development can read this thread, but i guess this kind of thread should not post in Android Development right?

I almost have never seen xda doing mod on JP roms but some JP telephone import shops at Sin Tat Plaza(at MongKok in HK) and Ginza Plaza(at MongKok in HK) got a long history to mod JP roms. Actually, I think they have the skills to do it but I doubt they are willing to accept your job because your phone not bought by them.

I live in HK and I heard that Z1 JP version has its 4G working in Hong Kong perfectly. No HK firmware flashing even required.
Sad for ya, obviously hardware problem.
I heard there's a special version of Z1 for China, maybe u need to trade for that one. (haha japanese version always more cool, i understand that XD)

JP LTE only use 1800mhz and HK LTE supports both 1800mhz and 2600mhz so all JP LTE phone is useable in HK.
I think JP phone usually got better parts over International model like better quality of LCD panel and body materials.

Exactly what I think, z1 Japanese version have 32gb memory for internal storage by default.
It's super cool except you may not be able to unlock the bootloader and stuff on xda may not be very compatible

i have z1 sol23 update to the newest 14.3.C.0.300...
Before i used this version, my version is VTHL 2015 ( unlock sim and can used mobile data - LTE) but a lot of apps didn't running on this version and the important apps and NFC function disable by OS.
Now my version : 14.3.C.0.300
I like very much this version because this update give a lot of function:
1. All Apps can install to this version and 95% working ( i like'd very much because smartphone without apps still just PHONE)
2. NFC is enable. ( In my region : indonesia, i used for check my FLASH BCA, so i can checked my credit)
3. Battery is good for 1 day, still have 20% at night
4. The first time i used, i'm very dissapointed because no cellular signal.. But i tried to check my mobile network, we have 5 choice which 2 choice for japan only and 3 choice for all the world.
My trouble: i can used for call, recive and sms, but my mobile data didn't work.. :crying::crying::
So Please help how to active my mobile data, just 3G not LTE its enough for me.. Thanks :angel::angel::angel:

Very interesting. Just for a goof I asked him what rom version he's running. Anyone want to bet that he won't answer? He says it's a DIAM160, which i guess is an o2 model.
EDIT: He was reading the model number off of the battery itself, not the device model number.
He says his rom version is : 1.37.415.1.WWE

It could theoretically mean (i'm doubting this myself) that there is a way to unlock the 3g 850 band somehow. Now, he could have somehow gotten his hands on one of the telstra diam110 handsets, or he does have some kind of beta handset that does have different hardware.

Dunno. On my Danish (factory stock) rom, with radio 1.00.25.05 from here. In settings/phone/band I get not 4, but 6 options:
UMTS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+1900)
UMT(800+2100)
UMTS(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(1700)
That would be bands 850, 900, 1800, 1900 for GSM
and 850, 900, 1900, 2100, 1700 for UMTS
Can't test it (yet)
Anyone, for donating a ticket DK-USA
EDIT: My ROM is -HTC Touch Diamond-QMR-RUU_Diamond_HTC_Danish_1.93.403.2_radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship downloaded from HTC site.

But all of that is just on the software, it is not hardware.
I wonder if the hardware is already there, and it would only be up to a software to make the US 3G bands work.
Yeah I get the same^ on mine with Norwegian ROM and .05 radio.
BTW, after I hang up a call, the 3G sign tends to appear (replacing the E) for a few seconds, so faking those pictures in that auction wouldnt be tough.

But for the 3G symbol to appear, you need the hardware that can receive the band of the 3G signal, in the US case, it's 850/1900mhz

So you're saying the phone does have that hw?
Folks, if you just read around the forum a little bit you will see that the Euro/Asian Diamond DOES NOT HAVE THE HARDWARE TO SUPPORT ATT 3G DATA. Only the Australian version (just released) and the US version (to be released in September) have the hardware necessary to connect to WCDMA/UMTS 850. This information is ALL over this forum.

That's the question. I do believe it to be some kind of hoax, but we've all been surprised before. I'm hoping that the winner of the phone will come forward and dump the radio off the phone so we can find out once and for all.

In his auction Q&A's he says the radio version is 1.00.25.05 which has definitely been tried here. It would have to be different hardware.
The more I read his Q&A's, the more I think he's not intentionally trying to dupe anyone... he just doesn't understand that just because the software shows all those bands in the settings, doesn't mean the phone actually supports all those bands.

Look at the pictures, how come does he have the 3G signal in it? My diamond does not show that because it does not have the hardware for that, it only shows an E.
I thought that meybe is a preproduction unit, he claims that is not, but if you dig a bit you can see that this person bought it from a different seller who claims that is a regular dia100 so I'm very confused now.
Is it possible to change the logo to 3G with some registry tweak even if the phone only onnects to Edge?

He has confirmed now that it is a DIAM100, but swears up and down that it works for 3G data. I told him that people here have been trying to get 3G data working on the DIAM100 for a couple weeks now with the exact radio that he has on his phone and it cannot be done b.c the hardware is not there. He basically told me that it has 3G for 850 and to eff off.

[Q] How to find my baseband?

Hi guys, I have a bit of a dilemma. I bought my Milestone secondhand from a guy who had it imported before they were officially sold here in Thailand. I can't get a hold of him but I *assume* it's a Canadian model, as it has a QWERTY keyboard. I'd like to make sure I have the correct baseband on the phone, so that I may be able to get 3G by using a different carrier with a compatible frequency (3G is a big mess here, legal battles between the government and carriers, so each major carrier essentially has its own frequency).
So, how can I be sure which 3G system my phone was designed for?
http://dext3r.komodin.org/
Search in page baseband or Thailand.
But this is basically if you dont have signal, 3g I think it work through apn.
Same things with 3g licences over here so that is nothing unusual about this.

Install ROM, pick a baseband, configure APN. If you can't get a stable connection, then you have the wrong baseband. Try a different frequency set (europe, canada). If 3G never works, then your phone freq are not compatible with your current carrier.
Switch sim/carrier and try again

@etimago, you can check your baseband type in settings/about phone. What does it say there? Then we can see which one you've got.

I have two hammerheads, one from Google Play store and one from Sprint

The problem I am having is with my T-Mobile sim in the Sprint nexus I get very weak UMTS/HSPA signal where I normally get full signal. Constantly dropping signal and what have you.
I also cannot get LTE. In LTE only mode, when I am outside where I get good LTE signal on my google play nexus 5 (capable of 30 megs down), the sprint nexus 5 sees every network except t-mobile's. I'm talking about the search for network menu, it shows AT&T almost always, shows verizon and metropcs' old network (311 660) and also shows sprint's lte network. All but T-Mobile's
So I decided I would swap out the antenna (the piece at the bottom held in by 4 screws that also has the loudspeaker attached to it).
With the sprint nexus' antenna in my google play nexus, everything works just fine in my google play nexus. With the google play nexus' antenna in the sprint nexus, nothings different and I cannot get LTE at all and weak HSPA.
it says "HH.SKU.1.0905" on my google play nexus 5, on the sprint one it says "HH.SKU.1.0816"
both hardware version 11. the water sticker on the sprint nexus is slightly pink, but i havent noticed any other problems
once i get in touch with my buddy who has sprint im gonna test his sim in this and see if i can get full signal LTE or what

Maybe i am wrong. But how could you expect a Sprint device to get GSM LTE? They(sprint) use different band and different technology for LTE than T-Mobile's.
I already mod my sprint lg g2 and galaxy s4 to work on att 3g network. But there is no way they could get att LTE. No a chance. It is hardware difference.
You could unlock a att device to work on T-Mobile LTE. But not a sprint device. Physically can't dow

sorry to bust the news but you are wrong because all nexus 5 devices (not counting overseas) support the same frequencies. sprint uses 800 mhz lte, tmobile uses 1700/2100. all american nexus 5s support both those

The nexus 5's are all the same. The S4 and G2 he was referring to are not (but we are talking about the nexus 5 at least )
If everythings configured the same, probably some other fault in the device. I'm not entirely sure what antenna you removed but are you sure it's the right one?

I recently ditched sprint and went to tmobile with my sprint n5 I had to do a factory reset but it works perfectly.

Now that all the noise is gone ...
Sure the problem wasn't one really it's just some Sprint exclusive settings which you can change ...

Modems N910T on AT&T

Does the N910T have the same modem as the N910A?
Does anyone have the flashable zips of both modems? I want to see if using the T-Mobile modem effects the LTE speed on AT&T network.
Thanks!

I'd be curious about this as well. I have an unlocked TMo on AT&T - LTE worked great but now I can only get HSPA+ and AT&T claims my phone registers as a Blackberry. Very frustrating.
Mine just stayed acting funny last night. It will only get 4G which is really actually 3g. I have the AT&T version as well. It will only get 4G also now. They might have did something to my Sim, who knows.
OK o just called att and they also said I had a blackberry as my phone. The difference is I have both versions (AT&T and T-Mobile) so when I called I was using the att version. They still couldn't get lte on the att version. Wtf

Because it says 4g and not LTE. I'm on dynamic ROM so icons are correct. Also was only getting 2mbs download. It also said HSPA in settings under status. Also AT&T said it was a blackberry on my account which is setup different then regular LTE (there words). But don't matter I got it fixed with AY&T for now.
On top of all this I didn't just jump to conclusions. After all the problems I odined back, tried kernel, tried modem. Then add a last resort I put my son back into my AT&T note 4(yes I have both) and had ZERO data because of my account. That's what spaked the phone call to AT&T.

Just wanted to make sure I was verifying the signal in the same way. I am getting LTE though. Just seemed slow. I checked the speed with the same Sim card on my note 2 and the speed was so not great. I believe AT&T is working on the network in my city though and that's why speed are show where I am.

Yeah there having issuers here in Naples to and created a trouble ticket. I've never had really good speeds anyways even on the real AT&T version. Samsung radios dont have the strength of a iPhone which sucks really because everything else beats the iPhone except download speeds and reception. (Thoroughly tested this with a buddy that is addicted to iPhone the way I'm addicted to Samsung phones for the last few years)
I lost LTE today on both my note 4 and g3.
Can't get it back no matter what I try.
Sounds like APN issue or Sim card issue. I have a T-Mobile Note 4 on ATT and I've had LTE the whole time...no problems. I did get a new Sim because I was using a nano Sim with adapter. 2g 3g 4g works fine as well. I'm in SW Missouri and my phone shows as a note 4.

In my experience with this if ATT has the actual IEMI of the off network device you will only get HSPA/HSPA+ at best. It does not matter what your APN settings are and this can only be fixed by providing an IEMI of a device that was sold with AT&T access from the start.
I made a mistake and provided the IEMI (at the time an unlocked MetroPCS S5) and could not get LTE. I told them that I was switching devices and provided the IEMI of my HTC One M8. After rebooting, LTE came back with good speeds again.
This is one reason why as a tinkerer I prefer AT&T over VZW. Verizon will refuse to activate a non VZW device. AT&T's official word is they will allow it but cannot guarantee speed or reliability. In my experience, however using a TMO or other GSM device with them has been fine.
EDIT:
Just logged in to MyATT and mine is showing up as "Samsung SM-N910T".
All I did was insert a sim card from one of my other devices. I'm using a nano sim to micro adapter as well. It's a PIA however I have an M8 and iphone6 which are both nano devices. I'm surprised that Samsung is still using micro sim cards!
I logged in this morning and mine is now showing as 910T as well. I still have LTE.
Not to hijack the thread, but those of you using TMO's Note 4 on AT&T, is your LTE reception good?
And flashing a different carrier's modem on a device could mess up the IMEI number.

Hello,
I just bought the ATT note 4 but still it is not yet on my hands.......I saw that this device has many bands but as I am using t-mobile sim I would like to enable the aws band .......as someone did in this video using a different device ,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb0iCtG4T6I
any help?
thanks
I recently got an n910T for use on AT&T and just stuck my sim card in. I get LTE, but it's slow, like around 6MB down, so more like HSPA speeds. My phone does not show a model on the AT&T website. Should I call AT&T to register my IMEI? The main problem might be that my phone wants to always stay on band 2 even when I am in a signal area with much stronger band 17 (-110dB vs -85dB). When I am at work, in a metal building with AT&T repeaters, it stays on band 17 which is all that is available, so I know it can do band 17, it just does not want to.

Att variant unlocked for Tmobile- poor experience

Forgive me if this should be in the T-Mobile or AT&T forum for the phone.
I bought a used note 8 that was an AT&T variant. I was on cricket, I inserted my sim card and it worked fine, however I should have called AT&T to see if this could be unlocked....because they wouldn't unlock it.
I used an unlocking company on the web and it works now, but I'm traveling places where this phone should work , mostly rural, and it isnt.
Tmobile hasn't been of much help . I've read on Reddit a suggestion to flash the Tmobile software to the phone to get full functionality on their network. I've also read it will never be possible to achieve that without a Tmobile Note8 or unlocked version.
Can anyone comment on this, is this necessary?

Yes, I am using T mobile now. It did change some parts of the software, for instance when I Reboot, you will get the t-mobile symbol on the screen for just a half second and the T-Mobile jingle, then the pattern unlock will show.

Right. I'm traveling with a work phone and Tmobile website shows towns where I should have signal. I was getting mostly band 12 in those rural areas. I dont know much about tmobile bands and frequencies but I'm trying to determine if there's bands this phone won't pick up. I've also picked up bands 2,3,4.
When I wasn't getting a signal or a signal I could use- it appeared I always had bars,probably AT&T.

Were the apn settings set correctly if it did them by itself? My AT&T note 8 doesn't get AT&T service where AT&T says I should. The maps are often times lying. I live out of town a little ways(roughly 10 minutes out) and the map says 4g but I get 1 bar of 4g at less than 3g speeds. And I'm in the middle of the color coat. Also our phones have the same bands as all the other games models and even American cdma models I believe. The AT&T varient supports T-Mobiles 600mhz as well. From what I was told.
U models should all be the same hardware wise, they should all support the frequencies used by US carriers. That's the reason why they changed to U models, for compatibility, all that's different is the firmware. Gone are the days when each US carrier had their own models, ie T (TMB), A (ATT), V (VWZ), P (SPR). Best to flash carrier's firmware. Many people buy or flash unlocked variants/firmware because of less bloat but you may loose specific carrier features that you can't enable without root.
For T-Mobile, bands are 2, 4, 12, & 71 but Note 8s do not support the new 71 band. T-Mobile is also said to use 66 which the Note 8 supports but I have never seen my phone connect to B66 though. But I have a F on T-Mobile. B66 said is said to be an extension of B4.
In my area B4 is the main band I'm connected to & is the fastest. B12 is usually second & in areas with less cell density where reception is not a good or inside buildings as it's a lower frequency & penetrates walls better (sort of like what B71 is for). B12 is usually slow for me. I've never seen my phone connected to B2 though. I have seen B31 pop up when CA is active but that doesn't make sense since T-Mobile does use B31.
Thanks! I don't do this much, where's the latest firmware?

Yes actually and please dont use that app lol, use servicemode *#0011# to change bands type in *#2263# there you can change bands on T-Mobile. On AT&T you have to eject the sim and reboot the phone then type that code in lol.

Sort of. In the Service Menu you can set preferred bands & you can also disable bands. I don't recommending disabling bands as there really is no point. You can try setting specific bands as preferred but in my experience it's best to just leave it on automatic (stock). Even if you set a specific band as preferred you won't connect to it if it's not available in a certain area anyway.
Don't know if the service menus are the same for Snapdragon but on Exynos it's *#2263# (enter it in the stock Samsung Dialer).
Again best bet is to flash T-Mobile firmware, that way you'll get the correct CA combos (carrier aggregation) & other features like VoLTE, Wifi Calling, etc., then debloat if desired.
Also forget LTE Discovery, Network Cell Info is much better.
Thanks for all the tips, I think I will try this tonight. I do have a total conspiracy theory though....I would swear that today (again traveled in an area where it lost service but the Network Cell Info app showed I was picking up a strong signal on ATT, I think band 3) ...I turned roaming off and it seemed i haven't had any issue since.

Okay, I have flashed the phone using firmware I downloaded off of SamFirm, see attached. Phone seems no different, but I haven't traveled yet. Some debate I keep reading in forums as to if this is even necessary.
Very frustrating to be pulling in AT&T signal on phone in areas where I know I should be getting TMobile.

Update: I've traveled 1500 moles all over the state this week and I've backtracked the issue to be this phone will not pick up Tmobiles 700mhz network.
If you look at the app from TMobile called BYOD, you put in your IMEI and it straight up tells you (or at least me) that arent going to get it.
Lots of wasted time this week. Wish we would have known this before I started service.

Well that's weird... Band 12 looks to be enabled....why dont you try locking to only Band 12 and see what happens. Also I could find out if T-Mobile owns Band 12 spectrum in your market if you tell me what that is.
