[Q] Update ruin root or rom - Samsung Gear Live

I've got a new update for my gear live, but my question is will it ruin the root or custom rom on it? I'd rather be safe then sorry.

You'll probably lose root. If you're on octathorps 0.1 Rom, update to 0.2 to bring yourself to the latest version

OTA Disabled when using Cyanogen????

Hello all...
I just read about Android 2.2 Froyo that is scheduled to come out sometime within the next few months. What I am wondering is will I get the OTA update pushed to my phone from Google and will I be able to update?
I am running CyanogenMod 5.0.6-N1 on my Nexus One.
I apologize if this seems like a dumb question but I am a newbie to all this.
OTA will be gone after rooting, but the update will still be available for root users to be applied through recovery.
It might even leak to root users sooner as was done in the past

Hey KnightMAREcrow...
Thanks for the reply.
But I don't understand what you mean by the update will still be available for root users to be applied through recovery. Huh?
Again sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm learning all this as I go.

If you have rooted your phone (which you have to install cyan), you will need to put back stock recovery and stock rom in order to successfully install the OTA. What Knight said was that, usually updates such as Froyo/2.2 will be out for rooted users like you through Cyan or other Roms, so you do not have to install stock rom/rec. Just wait it Out!
Ohhhhh ok so the next Cyanogen Update should incorporate all the features that will come with Froyo....GOT IT!!!!
Thanks for the lesson...much appreciated!
Even though you aren't getting a notification about the OTA - rooted users will still be able to download a .zip and flash it through recovery just like a custom ROM. This version specifically though will not be the one Google released, I believe they will change things to in order to make it usable by us rooted users.
I don't know really though, but it looks like that is what happened with the previous OTA. Cyanogen will integrate Froyo's features into his ROM regardless, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

?? Will I be able to upgrade to an official ROM? And How to rollback a custom ROM ??

Hi all,
I have just installed a Overcome ROM 2.2 and now I have two questions:
- When Samsung get to release Ice Cream Sandwich, will I be able to update my GT-P7310 to Samsung's OEM ICS? If so, how could it be done?
- Second question is: Is there a way to roll back this installation to Samsung Stock ROM? If so, please let me know how to find the stock US ROM for GT-P7310. I have not found a working link, but would greatly appreciate the help. I prefer to keep the tab instead of taking it to the store for an exchange (I'm still on time to return it).
Thanks!

1. when samsung finally releases ics there will definately be a zip file here in the forum. just download it. do a full system wipe in recovery and flash it like a custom rom. should work fine.
2. the best thing to do would have been to make a complete nandroid backup from recovery of you stock system. then you could just restore the complete stock system. seeing as you have installed overcome already its too late for that. if you can find your stock rom you can however just flash it again. then check the guide for unrooting and you are back to as stock as it came:

Thanks pseudoheld. The reason I'm concerned that I might not be able to have the OEM ICS ROM when it gets released is the fact that I can't even find the zip for the stock ROM anywhere around here.

[Q] StockROM?

Hello!
Im new to android story so please excuse my stupid questions.
I would like to install the barest version of gingerbread on my phone. Where to find it? Im not clear if stock mod is what i have on my phone now (original) or is it android without the preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall? I Would like the version without any preinstalled apps.
And since im meddling with my phone, what do you think is the best kernel to use with bare gingerbread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198341
Gingerbread is Android 2.3. The S Advance has Android 4.1.2 available for it (AKA Jellybean). Follow the above guide to upgrade to Jellybean, and if you want you can also install a custom kernel or ROM.
Stock ROM Gingerbread 2.3.6

Stock Rom is a System Rom which comes preinstalled in your particular android device when you buy it. Stock Rom is preinstalled by the manufacturer of that particular device such as Samsung, Nokia, Sony etc.
If you have Gingerbread 2.3.6 just do a factory reset and from Settings > Application Manager > force stop unwanted apps.
What you want is unclear in your post. What I could realize from your writing that you want a fresh Gingerbread to flash your device.
You can download official Gingerbread 2.3.6 from here. Choose OS version 2.3.6
where do u live? what is the official release for your device there?

Thank you for your replies people.
What I want is to install fresh gingerbread, but some kind of bare version, non samsungs version like i have now. Without preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall. Is that even possible?
What im asking is how is such bare version called and where to find it? and since im doing that i thought i could upgrade kernel but i m new to whole meddling with android thing so i thought i could ask which kernel is good to use with this version of gingerbread?
I live in croatia. There is no croatian version on the page above, besides, those are all samsung versions, like the original on my phone, right?
By bare version, I'm guessing you mean like stock android version like the nexus have. Unfortunately for this device, we don't have the stock android firmware. For GB, even the custom roms you found here is based on stock samsung firmware. So, there will be some samsung apps preinstalled in the custom rom.
If you upgrade to Jellybean 4.1.2, you can try the latest CM 10.1 nightlies (although it is not recommended for newbies, as it is still test builds but has gotten to a pretty stable version). Cyanogen (CM) roms are built from source and it is very similar to stock android interface.

Thanks. Thats what i wanted to know.
I ended up on this forum becouse i wanted to install new cyanogen, but after some reading here it seems that GB is still better option in terms of battery and performance. So i concluded that best bet would be gingerbread without the bloatware. Maybe ill try some GB based rom.
Anyway, i hope this information will be useful to someone else also. Or delete the thread if thats the practice on this forum.
One last question. Im pretty sure i know the answer but better be safe. If I root my phone, i will be able to unistall all the apps that were preinstalled that i cant uninstall now?

Yes, you can. You're granted with superuser access by rooting your phone. So you will be able to remove any app and play with your device anyway you want. :good:
Rooting Gingerbread is a bit tricky for newbies. Follow the guide in the following link

Any downsides to rooting or romming gear?

As with phones, are there any downsides to rooting and custom romming the watch?

to make it very simple, gear is useless if you are not planning to put custom rom on it.
Null ROM functionality is MUCH better than stock rom - much greater than the difference between stock phone ROM and custom phone ROM.
One (possible) drawback is that in case You need to return your GEAR for the warranty repair - Sammy may say "sorry this is not our system.. " and just cancel Your warranty.

Just got mine today so far upgraded the firmware. Will root and custom rom it eventually. My question is when rooted and running a custm rom what is battery life like. Better, same, worse. Just in general thanks.

I thought you could just odin back to factory
I rooted mine and that's all I need. Got the latest firmware notifications are nice. Tried null rom but couldn't care less about Nova on my watch it kind of lost its simplistic appeal. I like gear manager. With root I managed to put keyboard and still, it's good for that sort of thing. So I say root no rom. Cheers!

Can you do that and have it as stock and able to fully run as stock including OTA update?

Useless? I wouldn't follow this advice in the slightest if you are considering rooting. Yes, it surely improves the feature set of the Gear, but I have it non-rooted and love what it can do.

Sure - if the state of the fault allows You to revert to the stock ROM You will be OK - no problem with warranty...

Quick question guys. For the Null rom, do you need to be rooted before installing the ROM? The instructions aren't very clear on if that is necessary.

NO need to be rooted. Flashing ROM is enough.

What total nonsense.....
Questions about Null ROM:
1 - Do you lose S voice? Cuz I like talking to it to send texts
2 - Do you lose notifications from phone apps? I need to have my outlook email notifications. This is a MUST!
3 - Do you lose some gear apps? I like feedly, evernote ,speedometer, tweet quickview
4 - Do you lose any synchronisation of calendar and contacts? Especially those from outlook. Again... this is a MUST!
I realize that overall the Null ROM is better, but I do have some MUST HAVES and a few I REALLY LIKE THIS, that I just don't want to lose. It's not very clear to me what stock Gear features are or can be lost if I switch to the Null rom.
Thanks

Just got a "new" Galaxy Note 3 running stock 4.3

So what are my options? I'd like to root it and run the latest build if possible. I checked for software updates, but it says non is available?

If its 4.3 you can root with kingo, run safe strap, and run my ROM. That's an option.
Kingo root, safestrap, and pick a 4.4.2 rom. Read everything you can three times so that you are ready.
Read as much as possible. Over and over. If you're on the latest official build you will lose root, so I stick with 4.3 rooted.
You can flash a 4.4 rom though, and revert to 4.3 if anything goes wrong.

Use Kingo to root
2. choose a ROM that is supported by the ATT locked bootloader (i.e. Dynamic Kat or Alliance at stated above)
3. use xposed installer to get some great mods for your phone
4. use greenify
unlock sim it first before updating to any 4.4.3 roms

EXACTLY! Best rom by FAR, that finally made me move from the BEAUTIFUL 4.3 INCURSOR rom, and STAY...was [NC2][4.4.2] Dynamic Kat 2.0 [Google Play Edition Theme 2.1]. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2709701 Best battery, speed, and good looks, in my humble opinion. Now if only INCURSOR's theme were available for 4.4.2, I'd be completely in ROM heaven! But DO NOT take any official update, and make SURE you download and BUY Titanium Backup to backup your downloaded apps, and to freeze those resource hogging apps/bloatware you'll never use and definitely freeze Software Update or whatever it's called, so you don't end up with a forced update.
MAKE SURE TO READ THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2710972 , by Tropazr.....it'll walk you PERFECTLY through any step you need, then read THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712039 to get to KitKat (4.4.2) and to start flashing KitKat roms!
You DON'T want to wake up with an official build, or like the others said, you're stuck. ENJOY!!!! :good:
