So I have successfully rooted my device after waiting for 2 years warranty to be over. I'm planning to install a ROM on my device but I don't have any idea what to do next. Been planning to install this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2682495
My question is, should I install Stock Firmware and ClockworkMod Recovery before installing the ROMs on this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642316
I cannot post on his thread for I am only a new member. I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance!
Just install CWM, no need to install stock ROM as you will have to wipe data/cache anyway.
Hope I could help and good luck installing custom ROMs

My friend want to upgrade his phone,
and asking me to do so.
I know few things and not a noob but also not a dev or a pro.
Thus i want to ask a question:
He is having an unrooted Galaxy POP GT S 5570 with stock 2.2 froyo
Question is that
Can i directly flash CWM recovery 4.0.0.5 using odin
that is just flashing tass.ops and tass-recovery-cwm.tar ???
Because somewhere i read that CWM requires GingerBread on GT S 5570 to work?
And i know that it is very difficult to unbrick for users like me and sometimes impossible for noobs.
I'm having Xperia X8
And sony ericcson devices are very easy to unbrick using official SONY UPDATE SERVICE SOFTWARE.
If there is something like the above one, for SAMSUNG,
Please tell me?
I tried to OC his phone once and phone strucked in bootloops.
Then somehow I managed to install Stock Firmware of Galaxy MINI
Then we go to the CUSTOMER Care and asked them to reinstall the firmware
And again he is on stock 2.2 only.

well, I think cwm 4.0.0.5 will not work on froyo.. there was once a CWM made specially for froyo and you can get it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16147687&postcount=1
Problem is that there is no more development for froyo.. so for any questions and issues that you may encounter, you will have to figure it out yourself..
Why not upgrade the phone to GB? It would a lot easier and developement is concentrated on this version. you can flash with Odin tool to upgrade the phone to GB. flash cwm 4.0.0.5 from there and you can start installing custom roms on it. you can choose to update cwm as well since current one is 5.0.2.6..

Thanks for your support and help.
I'm reading and searching on these things.
Now the actual thing that i want is
A backup of the current state.
But if is 100 % sure that GT-S5570_INU_S5570DDKQ7_S5570ODDKQ6_S5570DDKQ7.rar
file will upgrade to GB and works well, then no need of backup.
Ok i had understood all the things .
I would surely upgrade my friends phone and install CWM and provide him with a big list of CUSTOM ROMS which devs are developing at our beloved XDA FORUMS.
XDA ROCKS
THANKS A LOT for the assistance.

Stock roms can't be backed up. only custom roms can be backed up.
you have to flash tass recovery via odin
hi guys, i've been using Xperia x10 previously and i was able to install CFW and root on my x10.
I just upgrade to galaxy s2. It's with BELL but unlocked. now my question is :
where to begin to root? and install custom firmwares? what do i need?
your help woud be much appreciated!
You must flash a custom kernel which roots your device and installs clockworkmod recovery. From the recovery you can install than any custom ROM.
I think there are enough instructios how to do that.
ok done the rooting and clockworkmod recovery.
what is the best firmware out there? in case i fail to install new CFW, how to factory reset to stock firmware? Thanks.
Go to SII section please...
Galaxy S I9000 Q&A - :F
Hi everyone, I'm back with new question again, sorry for the noobness of me
1st, a big thanks to all the android player that help me root my SGN couple of months agohttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22452667#post22452667, exspecially DR.KETAN, thanks for the pation to answer the noob questions by me:fingers-crossed:.
After the root, my note can play many advance, but mainly, i use them to cheat in game's mod, so i didn't put any others ROM into the gaint, that means I just root it to use game cheating(sory, my bad to all game devalopers).
Now, I planning to get my gaint to go abit more advance, I saw on magazine, saying that one of the best Android ROM is the "CyanoganMod" ROM, so i decided to plan this ROM to my gaint, but I don't know where to start, wish that u guys can give a hand again for a noob like me, thanks in advance:victory:.
my country: malaysia
my divice: Samsung galaxy note
divice age: about 1 months plus, still got about 10 months original warrenty
android version: 2.3.5
baseband: N7000DXKJ3
kernel version: 2.6.35.7-N7000DXKK1-CL706642
[email protected]#2
root status: Already root
root program used : Easy rooting toolkit (v4.0)
created by DooMLoRD
using exploit zergRush (Revolutionary Team)
next step : planning to install ICS 4.0 "CyanoganMod" ROM to my note
It's best if u guys can show it step by step for the things i need to do.
Oh, by the way, iI already install a lot of app to my note after the root, just want to know, will installing this ROM wipe all the app and game data that I installed?
You need to wipe before going to CM9, Do you have CWM Recovery installed ?
Download your CM9 ROM, Download this abyss kernel https://dl.dropbox.com/u/69014495/AbyssNotekernel42RedTouchOriginalLogo.zip Also Download the Gapps package.
Now place them all on to your SD card, Boot into recovery, Flash Abyss kernel, Go to advanced, Select reboot recovery
Now, Full wipe / factory reset, Clear cache partition, Go to advanced and clear dalvik cache,
Flash CM9 ROM, Then Flash Gapps package, Reboot, Enjoy
** This assumes you have CWM installed **

however because of my bad experience with my galaxy mini im a bit cautious i know
I can root it easily
but the recovery is what troubles me as i know there are two methods
flashing with stock recovery
odin
which is the safest or are they both the same and what are the chances of messing up using odin

I've never really messed with Odin too much, but I flashed it with the stock recovery no problem. If you search on the forums I'm sure you'll find an easy root zip that you can download. I also got CWM (clock work recovery mod) and I use that to install all of my custom ROMs. I've never had a problem yet. Hope that helps!
Can someone send me a link to flahsing cwm using stock recovery (only saw the one with Odin)
And if I root and install cwm will I be able to accecc my stock Rom or will I have to
Flash a new Rom
Hi Guys

i really appreciate you guys helping
did you factory reset it from the recovery? if you want jellybean, first you need to root it, i suggest flashing a root kernel. then you have to install the custom recovery before flashing a custom ROM.

Here is my video on how to install Cyanogenmod 9 which ICS 4.0, You can follow the exact same steps for CM10+ for Jellybean.
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dhS3Oex27c
To root I used 1 click method which works for any model under 2.3.3 which you are so download from here: http://www.oneclickroot.com/phone/samsung-galaxy-s/
Then follow my video method to install ICS or Jelly Bean. You can also use other ROM's with the same method, but be careful.
I hope you enjoy
