After getting a new hero and using my nandroid from old phone it occurred to me, why not distribute a working backup rather than a rom to flash.
This may not be the best way but if a dev flashed their rom, skipped sign in, made sure everything was functional, then made a backup and distributed that, wouldnt that cut down on people getting mixed results post flash?

Two top reasons, why ROM vs. Nandroid backups...
1. Recovery dependency
2. Customization

1. Specify recovery used or make multiple backups per recovery.
2. Backup would contain basic rom, leaving customization to be done after restore.
After flashing rom, gapps, black market, I always backup then start making changes incase I delete something I'm not supposed to.
Example: lets say I flash my rom and gapps. I start my phone, skip sign in, begun fumbling through menus making sure I get no FCs, etc. Check too see if GPS is working, sms/mms, youtube, camera, etc. At this point everything works and I make a backup. My assumption is that if someone else uses that backup, everything will work for them as well. (google was never linked due to skipping sign in).
Not trying to prove you wrong, just expressing my thoughts until they themselves are proven incorrect.

Both of you guys are Right in a way, and I kind of had a little Idea from Reading all the Posts!
What if a Developer/User "Whoever" was to Upload a Nand Backup But with a John Doe Google Account Just for Nand Purposes, "Basically for Anyone who wants to Download it"
I Read *SO MANY* Posts where Users Have a Hell of a Time Trying to get certain Roms Installed...
So now let's use me for Instance, Say I was having a Issue with Installing a ROM where it just Wouldn't Work for whatever Reason. Actually lets say I was a Noob with Some or Little to Any Experience and Instead as a Alternative I Used John Doe's Nand Backup just to get it Booted!!
Here's the Catch...
From there Meaning once it Boots, and Correct me if I'm Wrong! Wouldn't I be Able to just Pull the Battery and Do a Full Wipe....
Data/Cache/DalvikCache and Reboot back to the Same ROM Minus the John Doe?
Meaning Now I'd be able to Start the ROM Fresh and Replace the Temporary John Doe Account with My Own Email.gmail.com/Password, Then from there have the Option to Create Another Backup with My Own Customizations!
Remember like I said, Although I Usually I Don't have any Issues during a ROM Install, But Realistically That Doesn't mean Everyones is as Fortunate, So this Might, Could be a Alternative for Whoevers Willing to Try it!!
If Anything I Said, Better Yet more or less Suggested is Wrong... Please Correct Me, But the Above is Based on the Best of my Knowledge!

ok so using a John Doe account wont work. Once you sign in, that account can only be removed by reset.
Ok so lets just get these out there for people to try out.
Below is a download link to 2 nandroid backups.
The two recoverys used were CW 2.5.0.7 and RA-Recovery-1.6.2.
Download here.
MegaUpload
DO NOT FLASH ZIP!!!
Unzip file, inside your should find two folders. Use the correct file for your recovery.
As always, Nandroid backup first.
Perform a full wipe.
Restore downloaded backup. (In RA-Recovery, if you get a error message, go Here to see instructions on how to restore using adb.)
Reboot
(Click Market to sign in.)
Test away!!
Once booted you should be running aospCMod, dark horse theme, black market, blue and black facebook, black MIUI Music, LauncherPro (themed widgets if you have unlock code), Black Youtube.
Apps you will NOT see in drawer are camera, gallery, file manager, dev tools. And prob some others, cant remember atm.
Thank you in advance for helping me test this out.
A similiar method is used on certain phones. The dev can make a nand or copy system and data into .img or .tar files. The recovery then unpacks the images into the correct directory.

I'm using this thread as the testing method. Once we confirm the advantages of it and that it works well, I will start threads in dev and theme forums. Not sure if I will need permission from creaters of the roms to do so but I will look into that. Eventually I'd like to have a few people helping to get most roms on there and help keep them updated.
So for now do the testing and report back on the results. Also try the CW backup on earlier and later versions of CW.

Hey all. I got the o2x for two weeks now. After the first week i decided to root it because lg stock ROM is ****. I am still Not satisfied! It is slow and laggy imo. Im currently using gilgamesh 1.2 ROM. I really think about getting another phone. I had a desire and to be honest this phone is Not really faster. I Eintrag care about playing games.
Sorry for my bad english.

well, then u should sell it now, get a good prize and wait for htc sens. or samsung sII
I had the amoled desire and this O2X is faster by miles. I think you didn't organize your apps properly.
The LG Stock ROM is **** I agree. I replaced the homescreen with LauncherPro and froze unwanted bloatware on the first week. The whole phone system is now much faster and light without custom ROM. Love it!
Not laggy
LOL dont know what your doing to your phone but 2x is one of the fastest phones on the market and may well be the fastest. You think this phone has problems i had 4 Sony Arc they are a nightmare soo many issues and problem with screen coming away from it housing, the LG 2x is well built and fast as hell cannot waiit for it to get Gingerbread and then Honeycomb will make this phone rock and roll even more
kan someone explain how to remove the bloatware from the LG ?
im still stuck @ factory rom, but i dont feel like flashing a new one
Root, install Titanium Backup and use it to remove the things you don't want.

1) get root
2) freeze/uninstall apps using Titianium Backup / use Root Explorer or sth like that if you know which apk's you don't need and simply remove them (remember to remount /system in read-write mode)
This phone has a rubbish stock UI but great potential, it makes it more a phone for geeks rather than the masses. I've rooted and loaded CWM along with applying the dexopt fix but am yet to go the whole hog, I'd rather see what tweaking stock does before i take the whole leap of custom roms.
By the way does anyone know where the facebook/twitter/myspace apps are so i can get rid of them? I've tried Root Explorer and Titanium but i can't see them...they are just unnecessary bloatware for me.
The apk of Twitter&Facebook by LG is called SNS.apk or very similar.

Well. I learned a hard lesson yesterday. I could root the phone and uninstalled bloatwares as I wanted and everything worked fine... Until I decided to do a factory reset. The first-run setupwizard cannot find a certain app and crashes at beginning (I think it was LG Home, not sure though) left me with endless bootscreen. After hours of headache finding solution to fix it I got the phone to revert to factory settings with nvflash. Now I don't remove system app anymore but to disable them. Easiest by "freeze" them with titanium.

Not sure where it is but there was a fast boot zip of launcher apk. If you boot your phone into fast boot and cwm copy the zip to the phone and then flash the zip to your Zio it should resolve the issue

openZIO Rom issue
Hi, I just installed the openZIO 2.1.2 ROM. Everything worked fine, but after rebooting and going through the initial set up (i.e. the google user setup blahblah) the VTL Launcher continually force closes and I can't do anything but go back and recover my original boot.img has anyone else had this kind of issue? Any possible fixes? Any help would be appreciated, I know not to many people are in using the Zio forums anymore... but yeah.. Thanks in advance
Try Reflashing again
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
I've actually already done that, and it's still doing the same thing. I've deleted and re-downloaded the ROM, and re-flashed it to my phone, and still having the same issue. VTL Launcher just continually force closes, and it sucks cause I've been waiting months to get to install the ROM cause I couldn't afford a new USB cord. I've read so much on this ROM and everything for the Zio and was excited to actually be able to overclock my phone, and get some pretty good performance boosts out of it. Now I got one, and can't get it to work.. what a sad day
Could you explain your steps when flashing?
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
well I first move the .zip to the sd, then power down and boot up CWM, and "install from SD card" and once it's finished flashing, I reboot the phone. when it comes back up my kyocera logo comes back up and it takes me through the first-boot programming (google sign-in) and once I input my un/pw and sign in, it tells me that VTL had an error and must hit force close. and once I hit force close it continues to come up saying the same thing over and over again. so I rebooted my phone, still the same thing. SO I go back through and flash it back to my original boot.img. I have gone through and completely deleted the openZIO 2.1.2.zip file and re-downloaded it, and gone through the same steps to see if maybe it was just a bad file somehow. But to no avail, still having the same issues.
After you boot into cwm : wipe cache partition, then go into mounts and storage, format: system, data, cache :then go into advanced and wipe dalvick cache.
Now flash rom
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
Ok just went through with what you had mentioned, and still getting the same results. "Sorry! The application VTL.Launcher (process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. with the only option to force close. As soon as I force close, the same message pops up
Have you tryed flashing my rom?
I would try that, and see what happens.
You can always push a launcher with adb or Droid commander.

doing this now actually.. been reading for the last hour or so and seems like you did some good work on the ROM. it's flashing now, hopefully all works well I'm excited to see how it goes.
Well it flashed and well... seems to be having a strange issue.
When switching screens, it seems to glitch out? Like you see the icons, and when you switch screens, it's like the icons move but it freezes different frames. imma re-flash it in the morning to see if that helps any.

Okay, I have no idea why, but my phone doesn't seem to like any ROM except for the stock. Every ROM, every update I've tried, has just gone and bricked my phone. I'm a newbie as far as development goes, but I do know my way around flashing, applying updates from SD and stuff. And I'm careful not to mess with files designed for the other ace. I also follow instructions to the letter. I'm as scared of bricks as anyone else.
So I was wondering whether any of you could help me out here. Do tell me if it's better to stick with the stock ROM though. Awaiting a reply.
Cheers
EDIT:
Okay, I downloaded this iDroid ROM from here

Well firstly ask why yourself why you want to flash a particular custom ROM? Does it have features you need etc? If not then stock is fine and there are many ways alter the appearance of your phone without flashing a new custom ROM via apps in the play store.
As always prior to flashing a custom ROM make sure you have all the tools and knowledge to flash back to stock if anything goes wrong. OK so by the sounds of it you have installed RB,s kernel but have not installed IDroid ROM, tell us how you tried to flash and that will give us more of an idea where you are going wrong.

Why the custom ROM: I was told by a friend (who uses a Galaxy Y) to use one, so as to make the phone less laggy. And I like to have my devices looking a little different from what everyone uses. Pardon me
EDIT: And yes, I do have the firmware required to flash back, as well as Odin. I've flashed before, so you could say I'm not a total waste there And I seem to have trouble understanding the difference between ROM and kernel.... could you please explain it to me? At least I'll know where I'm going wrong.

The standard procedure I follow:
1. Download the flashable zip to my phone SD card.
2. Reboot into stock recovery, enter clockworkmod through its zip file
3. Backup just in case, install the zip through cwm or stock recovery, whichever the dev advises
4. Reboot
Update: managed to get RazoDroid working. Firmware XXLD2, Rafael Baugis kernel (obviously, duh ) and no problems so far!
Just because you're probably not following the instructions correctly doesn't mean it's the developer's fault, and that you should be 'disappointed'.
True. I do my best to follow instructions, but I may have overlooked something somewhere. And no, I'm not blaming any devs, not intentionally anyway, because I don't have any rights to.... At the end of the day, I did manage to make something work, and now I'm happy with it, so all I can say is peace out
Running RazoDroid ROM on Rafael Baugis kernel, somehow managed through without bricking phone for the nth time
Ok guys, my Sensation XL is currently on Android 2.3.5, and I'm trying to update the firmware to the newest. But my phone is rooted! I downloaded that OTA RootKeeper app and activated it before starting the whole updating process, but for the past...I'd say half hour it's been sitting on the screen with the triange and the Droid mascot. So, does that mean it's slowly working? Or is it just going to sit here until I decide to unplug the phone and give up? I wanna update my phone because there are apps where I need the latest firmware, but I like the freedom of having a rooted phone so I can delete what I dont want and so on.
How long should this update take? Since it is kind of updating a ****load X3 Also, if this doesnt work, I wanna do a complete stock reboot of the phone then try updating the firmware, but I dont wanna loose all my apps, save data, contacts and so on D: Plus will the bloatware I deleted using my root return with a vengeance if I do a Factory Restart? Help me out here, guys D:

If it took longer than 5 minutes, then it is bootlooping. Unlock boot loader, flash custom recovery, s off, flash a custom rom. Then you can have latest, but no matter what, you will loose all your data on the phone except what's on the inbuilt sdcard. Note the contacts are usually synced with you gmail login.

It doesnt have a custom rom on it though D: Is there any sort of app out there where I can backup my stuff to my PC? All I really care about is my contacts and app data (Like browser favorites and a couple of my games data). Or am I really just kinda screwed? X3 Also, I dont have a clue on how to do any of what you just said. X3

There does exsist some apps that can take backup of apps. Look in the sticky threads for guides or you can do it with my aio tool if you are running on a 64 bit windows.

Edit: So with your program I can do all what you said to do before, plus create backups of my apps and their saved data to my phone?
Edit2: Damnit. I'm on 32bit T_T

It cant create backup of apps only. It can only create a full backup.
Yes ATM it can only work on 64 bit. Need to change a few thing before it works on 32 bit

I found some good looking ways of updating to the latest firmware, but since I'm a newb I cant actually link them to you so you could give them the thumbs up I'm just getting so tired of having a crappy ass old firmware on my phone now T_T plus I'm hoping the new firmware could fix a few problems. I'm half tempted to just backup my contacts and just factory reboot my whole phone...and live with it not being rooted until the end of my contract. Should I just give up and do that? XD
