HTC repairs in Taiwan? - HTC Butterfly S

Anyone here from Taiwan and know about HTC repairs, ie. how long it will take etc? Headphone jack is damaged from repeated use (goes in too deep)

I turned in my phone to a local carrier in Taiwan, Chunghwa Telecom last week. If you're with them you can have your phone turned in even if the HTC warranty expires. I told them to push for it because I'm leaving. There were other problems such as some stuck pixels on the screen or purple stripes under low light but I did not ask for these to be repaired, as it would probably take more time.
Phone came back largely unchanged physically (there is a small dent at the top where I dropped the phone some time ago, and I still see the same stuck pixels on the screen), but they definitely fixed the headphone jack and the purple-striped camera. It no longer crackles or cuts off when I spin the headphone jack around. Overall I am pleased. That said, the crackling problem with bass at high volumes is still present with the stock music app. (therefore this is likely a software problem or an inherent issue with Qualcomm's DAC; this was a known issue with the Snapdragon 600 Galaxy S4 as well.
A side note though, it appears that the flashlight app is gone after my latest factory reset!
Another note, HTC appears to now have a "rapid repair center" in some areas. I am not sure if this handles hardware problems.

[SOLVED]Is there a problem with internal speaker on all devices?

Couple of days ago I started experiencing a distortion in internal earpiece speaker during a call. The volume can not be set over 40% or else conversation sounds like a Jimmy Hendrix concert I tried hard reset, even reflashed the phone, but the problem persists. The conversation sound is OK when transfered to external speaker or headphones.
I did a thorough search on several forums and it appears that many people are experiencing similar type of problem, usually appearing in first months of use (my phone is 3 months old). Other people are experiencing low volume on internal speaker - when increased via software methods they also have distorted sound.
This is not reported by people on this forum, but on several others. Since I bought my Diamond in UK and I live in other country I am currently thinking about sending it for repair, but there are reports of HTC service either not repairing the device or recurrence of problem after short time.
What do you think about this? How many of you have troubles with Diamond's speaker? Maybe we should warn the HTC about this? This is an excellent device - it would be such a shame to have a design flaw?
EDIT
Managed to solve the problem. I went to my friend who owns phone repair shop. He changed the earpiece speaker with spare one which is actually for Sony Ericsson K850i. What a difference!!! The sound is unbelievably crisp and clear. He told me that earpiece receiver built in Diamond looks very cheap. So if you are willing to void the warranty (I had to since I don't live in country of purchase).

[Q] Rattling/buzzing noise, something loose inside.

Upon receiving my second HTC one today (I RMA'ed the first one due to quality control issues discussed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwOu5oXpjVQ ) I find that this one have something loose inside of it, somewhere around the area of the upper speaker or the camera (camera works I've checked it). And it makes this Rattling/buzzing noise every single time a put the phone in my left palm (or by lightly tapping the upper part of the phone), quite annoying after awhile... It's not from a loose power button nor the volume keys. I also tried pulling out the simcard tray as well, and the noise persists.
I never noticed this on the first phone. Are you experiencing any of this? This can't be normal, right?
Hey, a simple no answer would be good if you're not.
Thanks.

No not for me. If anything, its probably the camera for you thats "loose". It happens with a lot of phones
I'm having a buzzing vibration from the top speaker when playing sound through the speakers (music, video, etc. but not during call). Definitely something vibrating under the speaker grill with the sound waves of the speaker, particularly at the frequency of a male voice talking. I'm about to contact HTC for a return. Very frustrating because the rest of my phone works great. Now I'm worried about getting a refurbished unit with other problems...

Got mine RMA'ed, second time now. I haven't received a refurbished unit as of yet.. But I'm not in the US and rma's are handled a little different (we do it through the retailer as long as there is any warranty left). Got a new device last time, and I'm expecting that is what I will be getting this time also.

[Q] Echo problem for my caller. I don't have any...

Hello,
I just bought a brand new S4 Active and I am very upset with an echo issue for my correspondents but not for me.
When I remove back cover or if I activate loudspeaker, echo disappears for my correspondent.
I have tried unsuccessful configurations with noise reduction enabled and disabled, personalise call sound options...
I think there is two microphones, one in the bottom and one on the top.
Maybe that only one (top one) is activated when loudspeaker is on, and when it is deactivated both of them are enabled (the one on the top to reduce noise environment and the bottom one for voice)
Maybe that this is just a software issue?
Does anyone have the same problem?
And does anyone knows how to fix it?
Thanks!
Hello,
I also own an S4 Active, congratulations on your purchase!
Unfortunately, this is a very common problem with this type of phone.
I sell phones and I sold S4 Actives in pretty large quantity, an I found this problem on a lot of them.
This is usually a problem caused by dropping the phone in the water, but if you phone is new from your carrier/shop then it's a factory issue.
The problematic thing which needs to be addressed or changed are the capacitors around the microphone, the top one, because that is the microphone used for noise reduction. You can replace the capacitors, buy some and resolder them yourself or take it to a repair service.
But if you bought your phone new and is under warranty, I would recommend taking it to warranty, as opening it and changing the capacitors WILL void your warranty.
The folks over at your purchase place should be able to fix this for you, as I believe this issue is covered in the warranty conditions.
Good day to you!

Question Zenfone 8 problems with speakerphone during phone calls

Hi,
Has anyone have such problem with speakerphone during phone (or whatsapp/viber etc) call that
All MIC's passes tests OK, record and then play my voice very well and loud.
But when I call someone or someone call to me and I active speakerphone to put phone away from my ear - there are mess like echoes, some robotic voice like signal excitation and interference started each time for person on the other end of the line. Person hears himself more often than my voice. So it's impossible to talk normally on speakerphone. I hear companion very good, but for him it's mess. But if I deactivate speaker and use earphone (in front of my ear) - then everything is ok for me and person on the line.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Problem persists on each FW which means that problem is hardware. I checked all mics in ,12345+= test utility. Every single microphone is ok. But it seems that when they work together - sometihng is going wrong. There are 3 mic's in this phone. First one is located on board 90AI0060-R10010 (bottom left corner), and this part can be replaced, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Second one is located in top upper part on main board and it looks like it can only be repaced by replacing motherboard which is cost a lot of $$$ which is not acceptable for devices not covered by warranty anymore (unlocked BL). Third mic installed on board 90AI0060-R10020 under back cover (where rear camera is located) and also can be replaced, price about 10USD.
But where is controller/unit which operate by these mic's?
Is there anyone who has or had such problem? What part(-s) were replaced is service under warranty?
Hi
I hat similar problems. I tried a lot of adjustments at the apps and the phone. Set the phone to factory settings. Nothing helped. Even the upgrade to Android 12 didn't change anything. Finally I sent it for warranty repair to Asus workshop and now I am waiting to get it back. Hopefully tomorrow I can tell you the result.

Ok, please also let me know (if possible) what part(-s) will be replaced.
There are 3 microphones in our phone. And I guess two of them are operate during phone calls on speaker. Main mic on sub-board which is located at the bottom of phone and second one - noise-canselling MIC which is located on motherboard (top part of phone).
Hi, today I've got it back. The workshop protocol says they made a firmware reset (same I already did before and told them). And the result is, the fault is still the same. This was second time I sent it for repair. First time the WLAN module broke down. They changed the motherboard and after getting it back from the asus workshop the the speakerphone function didn't work any more. You can see, there are absolutely specialist at work.

Low front speaker volume during call and test SM-N950F

Hi,
I have a Note 8, now about 4years old. I began having issues with front speaker during calls about 2 years ago -about 2 months before warranty ended. First it was intermittent, about every 20calls, the speaker was so quiet, if I had aircon working, I could not hear anything.
During a period of about a year, it came so far that every call is problematic. I had a company phone with 2SIM so I put both in and I was ''happy''. BUT STILL MY 1000€ phone had speaker problems after 2-3years.
Now I got around - read got time to tinker - to fixing this issue and get my nice powerfull phone back in use.
As I was not to carefull with water (rain drops) on my phone - its IP67 or68 even - my first thought was that the speaker got wet. I ordered China replacement and bought 5pcs just to be sure one will definitly work.
Tried it with all 5 pcs + original and resault was the same. LOW volume. Yes I checked the contacts and cleaned them but no oxidation or any other clear issue with the HW.
I started googling for the problem and found that this was a problem on Samsung phones, though ''very'' rare. Solutions were usually in the line of restart/farctory reset/check settings of the phone and it will be OK. Tried factory reseting/settings.. and no luck, still have the problem.
Now I found a site with info on how to get inside Diagnostic SW in the phone. Got inside, tested and result was low volume.
I also found some info, that if the top mic had dust in the hole, the noise cancelation did somehow lower the output volume on the front speaker - not sure if this is legit info, I don't see how noise cancelation could interfere with received sound output. Just to be on the stupid safe side I removed the protection film on the case for the mic and cleaned it. No affect.
Now I do not know where to turn, if this is a SW or HW issue. I will be calling the Samsung distributor in my country tomorrow to ask what would be the solution, but from my previous experiance I am predicting the response - no solution or your motherboard needs replacing with cost of about 500€.
Just to get the idea how low the volume is - My wife and I bought same phone on same day, so I have a good comparison. Yes she does not have any issues and no I will not open her phone to check for my ''dead'' speaker funcitonality.
If I call the phones and put her on lowest sound setting, mine is still about 30% lower with setting to max. This result is same either phones are in same room or in different rooms - just to be sure the noise cancelation is not interfering.
Do you guys have any ideas/experiences with this issue? How did you fix it?
If you suggest reflash the phone, where can I find original ROM?
Hope you guys can help me.
Thanks.
