I've tried a few different CM11-based ROMs (4.4.4), and they all have problems jumping between wi-fi networks and even between WAPs in the same building. Toggling wi-fi off-and-on usually fixes it, but that's kind of a pain and shouldn't be necessary. I've never had the problem with Sense ROMs. Is this a known issue, and is there a 'known' fix?
Thanks for any input.

Might want to post a comment, watch the issue and vote there to let the devs know then. I don't think you can do anything else (unless you personally contact the dev(s)).
For those interested, a fix for this is nearing completion. Testing has been very successful.
This issue has been resolved, and is included in nightlies from 20141013 and forward.

Latest Cyanogenmod nightly number 97 (10/3/2010) has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch if you are running it or a newer one.
Back Story
Long story short, the Chinese group Miui mananged to get / build (not really sure) a new Radio Interface Layer for our HTC devices... I pulled this file out of the Nexus one build that they released and it works perfectly. Link to the Nexus1 version
Over in the Nexus one forum a few people have questioned where this Chinese group got some of the files they're using, as they're really bleeding edge (at least thats what they say in the N1 forum). This newer / different RIL file seems to fix the issues we're facing with random phantom reboots while wifi is on. Also included in this is the issue where the signal bars show an "x" for a second or two after connecting to a wifi hotspot. Also fixed are issues where the radio signal drops before / after receiving a call that plagues AOSP builds (ruby and CM for sure).
Cyanogenmod 6.xx
This works on the 6.xx versions as well as the Nightlies.
NOTICE: As of Oct 2nd this has been "committed" so I assume the nightly that comes out this evening will have the fix built in. Check it out
Latest nightly number 97 has the new ril baked in. No need to use this patch.
Ruby 1.1.1
This works for Ruby. If you are wanting the BT Media Streaming audio fix as well, please see this thread. They are two separate installs.
Shadowrom
It has been confirmed that this also works for Shadowrom.
Bugs
I honestly don't know of any yet... but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Only a handful of us have been testing this thing out on the inc so far. Figured more people might want to check it out.
Credit
I take no credit for the fix. The Miui group built/got it(not sure which), I simply happened to be playing around with some files and noticed the side effects. Thanks again to Jermaine for letting me know more about the rom (and the fact that they weren't plagued by our reboot issues) in the first place so I could start digging...
Of course thanks go out to the entire ruby and cyanogenmod teams, without them we wouldn't have these fun roms. Lastly, IncredibleDoes for doing the Inc port of miui that opened our eyes to it.
Installation
- Download the file and place it on your SD card.
- Load up Rom Manager and hit "Install rom from SD card," select the file.
- I'd probably make a nandroid backup if you haven't recently just in case... no wipe has been needed.
Disclaimer
If this messes up your phone, not my fault Was tested by about 30 people so far, and no issues that we've seen. Please make a nandoid backup just in case.
THIS IS FOR AOSP roms listed above ONLY. Please do NOT install it on any sense based roms.

Isn't this just cosmetic? Or because the phone is switching from 3G to 1x? I've never dropped a call while toggling WiFi on...

Not that I can tell... so far the mere fact that the wifi isn't causing reboots anymore is the main reason I'm putting this out there...
anything else is just gravy.

Fixing the WiFi reboots would be great. Though, strangely, I'm at 110 hours uptime with the WiFi on... I guess it'll take a while to verify this fix works.

I'll guinea pig my phone for a few days if it means getting CM running w/o locks or reboots.
I'll try out the ruby one!

I'd be more than happy to help test either CM or Ruby (Ruby preferred). Just PM me the info!
Installed the fix on Ruby 1.1.1. Running stock Ruby Kernal (This kernal has been the best overall performance Kernal for me on Ruby). Will report back results
I've installed the file you sent me... and holy crap. It seems to work. Really hope this does it or at least puts koush in the right direction.

I really dont believe its the wifi. Its when the 3g turns on or off when the issues happen, which is when you leave or enter a wifi area. I turned 3g off and didnt use it for 2 days with wifi on the whole time with no reboots. I've have the lockup with just 3g on as others have noted. Also I believe that the lockups and the reboots are a separate issue. I have yet to see where any dev said it was the wifi directly, and with the known issues of 3g+froyo it points to 3g not wifi.
So, if you turn wifi off and are in a good 3g area then you will unlikely lose 3g much if at all, but if you have signal issues then the reboots still exist.
If we are going to find out what the problem is we need to setup test groups.
1 - no wifi, no 3g
2 - no wifi, 3g on
3 - wifi on, no 3g
4 - wifi on, 3g on
Make sure everyone is using the same rom/radio.

That's a possibility, but I think I'm in a good 3G area, and the majority of my movements are in a pretty small geographic area. I'll get reboots when my phone is just sitting on a table or in my pocket though in an area w/ strong signal.

I think what we'd really need is for the testers to check all 4 combinations. There's too much geographic variance to have a bunch of different people testing these combinations unless some lived very close to each other.
Do we have any devs lurking around here willing to make a flashable.zip of the wifi calling feature for the TMO users as it will only work on their devices? I would like to run an aosp rom but really need this feature. Apps from the market just don't cut it

Thats why this thread is directed at the developers. So they could answer as to wether they were willing or not. Payment is always an option that is not above me. If I had the coding ability to do something like this, I would not be asking for help on here.

previously the wifi calling was done through an app that was active. Now it seems like wifi calling is enabled through a system setting which mean it must be built into the framework at this point. some have been able to take the additional framework stuff and add it into international roms and then port the settings.apk that has the toggle over as well. so not sure if this will ever come to aosp.

Understood, however if there are issues they may be posted in their respective threads along with any fixes/updates.
But I personally believe that most of the issues you're reading about may be network or hardware related, but that's just my opinion.
I myself am luckily in a market that has strengthened the network early on, we were a second round market that started the build out along with first round markets.

Thanks! Good to know
I can confirm my issues are related to the tower im on at home, as soon as I get far enough away from it to go to another tower I get all of my connections back.
The only issues I have seem to be when I'm at home.
Sometimes, it takes a while to send/receive texts. Most of the time when this happens, I get anxious and instead of seeing how much of a delay there is, I simply update the profile and they all come quickly afterward. I've found that reprovisioning my phone using the ##SCRTN#(##72786#) dialer code while on CDMA tends to prevent this from happening for a greater amount of time.
Though, I did it a few days ago, it seems to be working okay now. We'll see how long it lasts.
With all the CM/AOSP clones having similar issues with Data connectivity (lack of handoff, Roaming, improper network names) I thought a thread with the experiences would be a great tool for the Dev's to refer to to help solve this issue.

I'm stock 5.0.1on Verizon I haven't rooted or unlocked because of these problemsthese problems seems as if at times phone freezes up has 3G or Sometimes 4G but still no Internet connection then finally after sometimes 5 minutes it connects up and it's fine it's not network because my wife's Droid 4 gets 4G kind of embracing. Also seems slow to hook up but decrypting may solve that. Are these the problems you are talking about or is my phone jacked?

Where is this verizon apn update.zip you speak of? The biggest issue I'm having is not being able to get data through my network extender. I have tried stock, aosp, cm12, all roms have the same issue. Pretty sure its an apn issue.

So I've posted about this before, the wifi being very slow to actually start loading something ever since the release of Marshmallow 6.0. My question in this thread: is the wifi functionality part of the devices radio? Or is that strictly for phone service and data? I just wanna know if that is something that can be fixed with an update to the radio partition, or of this is just part of the system.img Thanks!

i guess, in theory. but ive not seen that actually happen ever. since i was part of trinity kernel, and did all of its testing, ill say ive ran a few kernels that "broke" wifi, but never any that made wifi worse or better. im guessing that worse or better will be the routers part. now i have seen many routers that perform worse or better.

I'm starting to think my Asus RT-N66U is at fault for my WiFi issues on Marshmallow. It's weird because it never had an issues until Marshmallow 6.0 was released. Like, the phone will stall for anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds or so before it decides to start loading something, and this seems like it's only on WiFi.
