I have a weird problem with my S3 Mini. I replaced my broken screen with a samsung original replacement part - replacing run smoothly and I had no problems at all (wasn't my 1st phone and I have a lot of knowledge on electronics, even used esd mat and wrist band).
The new display itself is working fine but the digitizer gives me some troubles... if the phone is charging the screen is overall very responsive, you can tap on every corner and every tap is recognized but if the phone is on battery the phone reacts a lot different. Overall responsiveness is worse but working and recognizing every tap except in the right third off the screen. If you tap 5 times, only 3 taps are recognized.
I believe this "issue" can possibly resolved by software and/or calibration of the screen - do you have tipps?

I just replaced a screen in a Trinity (Dopod D810). The touchscreen initially wasn't calibrated correctly so I ran the alignment tool in the settings, and after a few attempts, I calibrated it properly and the touchscreen was working perfectly. Now the touchscreen is not working properly. The top half of the screen responds to touch, but no matter where I press in that region, the screen thinks I'm pressing the top-right corner. When I run the alignment again, it responds to all the touchpoints but it never successfully calibrates and it keeps bringing me back to the alignment screen.
The current settings in the registry entry for touch calibration are as follows:
484,558 244,286 263,815 750,820 707,295
I've found a few other threads here (the most helpful being http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355010) and I've tried the settings from that thread. The screen seems more responsive, but still not correct because the bottom half hardly responds and the top half seems to respond when it feels like it.
Can someone please post their D810 touchscreen settings so I can try it? I've tried the settings from my Touch Cruise, but the screen is still doing weird things.
This is a customer's phone so I need to have this fixed ASAP.
I'm thinking that it may be a faulty digitizer, but that won't explain why it worked perfectly when I first calibrated it.
UPDATE: NOT FIXED yet, but now the backlight is dead. I just turned it off, and then turned it on again, but I can only see the screen content if I shine a torch onto the screen. The LCD hasn't leaked. The backlight just died and the connectors in the phone are fine. Perhaps this was a dodgy screen.
Any ideas?!
since the device has a recessed screen, take the cover off to get at it.
take a soft cloth or something and clean off all the garbage on the digitizer and back of the plastic. make sure everything around the lcd is free of dirt.
usually, if there is something pushing down on the digitizer while you calibrate it, it will totally bork the alignment over the course of 10 minutes to an hour.
my kaiser is currently having this issue, though i put it though alot more hell then i should have... so i suspect its suffering from other issues.
I have had my Milestone for a while and it is out of warranty. Recently a narrow strip on the right side (when held vertically) of the phone has stopped responding to touch. It has decommissioned the search softkey, the backspace, L and the P key of the keyboard.
However, I have noticed that the touch response on the left has increased. For instance Q, A, and Z keys respond even if i touch the black edge of the screen, this goes for the back/return softkey as well.
This leads me to conclude that somehow my phone's inner working's alignment to the screen has been disturbed.
I have tried several roms...CM7, Froyomod and stock froyo but the problem remains.
I did use a third-party car charger once that gave me the ghost screen issue. Draining the batter to 0 with the app Battery Refresh and charging it to the full with Milestone charger solved the issue.
I'm in Bangladesh and there is no moto here...there is no support and sending the phone abroad for a fix is not an option. I'll have to fix it myself or save up for a few months to buy something else...not a bootloader locked moto again.
So, any suggestions? or directions I should be going or looking at?
1. The ghost touch appeared for me, too, after flashing FroyoMOD. I left the phone for ~a night slided-out, without battery, micro SD, SIM etc ) and it worked fine for ~5 days. Then, the same right side stopped working. We don't actually know what is the problem (moisture, bad charging, wear of the flex cable, defective digitizer) and we also can't be sure if we replace the digitizer the problem won't appear again. So, I suggest that you should sell the phone.
2. You could get an i9000, an LG 2x or a Desire HD.
L.E. I'm 95% sure that this isn't a software issue, so flashing different ROMs wont help.
same issue...
solution: dumped stone, got galaxy (Y)
My milestone eventually died. No M logo even. Thinking about getting a Huawei U8500 as an interim phone before I get something good.
Try Iphone insted
Once I got the same problem, it was not on the edge, but the middle of the screen & U, J & N keys stopped working. It was under warranty so I got the things replaced.
Touchwood
Hello
One night I was using the phone without doing anything special , some video watching . Phone went dark, tried to reboot. Blank Screen and the capacitive buttons flash. Left it to charge all night, in the morning it started but after I pressed the lock button blank screen but phone still working and receiving input.
Took the battery and SD card out left it for 30 seconds then started it again, Stuck at LG logo. Repeat , phone started ... Pressed lock button once then again to unlock , screen wouldn't start.
Used LG Mobile Update recovery tool to restore it ... Didn't solve problem. Sometimes it does not even start , just flashes buttons, other times it does without screen and last all works even the screen until first time goes dark , in the last two cases I can use LG On-Screen Phone without trouble, in doing so I installed a proximity sensor test app to see if it was causing my screen to not come back on , the sensor looked fine.
Facts:
1. Two day old Optimus Black p970, worked like a charm until stated problem
2. The app that checked proximity sensor showed the sensor to be free when my hand wasn't on it
3. The warranty laws in my country are idiotic so I would do or buy anything rather than send it so they can give me a new one in 3 months.
4. Tried another battery from another Optimus, fully charged nothing different.
5. Stock rom.
Do any of you fine people have some ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance
Hi there...
Sometime ago [1 year and a half or so~] I worked at a cell refurbishing facility [there were samsung, motorola and palm devices from sprint] and that problem you have was quite usual. Blank screen, still the phone is somehow usable like reciving calls...
There's this thing called "flex" which is the connector between board and display and that is what we fix, most of the time not even "fix it" just getting it in the right place...
This happen because of excesive use in those sliding or clamshell devices, in OB could be for overheating, you could try to fix it yourself or pay $20 usd [that's what it cost here]
Would that connector explain the fact that sometimes it doesn't start at all? hmm I am thinking now and I guess if it moves and somehow the phone feels it has not display connected it could fail to start... Anyhow thank you
actually yes, it could be only for the flex [some devices don't start at all when not having display or keyboard if there's any] but since our OB is not sliding nor clamshell type probably was overheating.
you say you have stock rom, well now I'm using CM7 but when I was at stock and after using the phone a few minutes it felt warm and some more minutes [like playing gunbros where you need to use both hands and a lot of movement] it was really hot and had to stop playing for a while.
what I'm trying to say is that because of overheating flex could have moved, but because of overheating too may have move something else, you couldn't belive the huge number of micro-things that reside in the board.
so if it's only the flex, it's an easy task to do, just unplug and plug again, but if it's something else it's quite hard to know just looking at it, you need to do some electric measures and stuff, the recomendation is to take it to a tech center or something
Hi. I Have same issue. Two times when i press power buton, butons flashing and screen still black. Phone not responding. I must remove baterry.
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
Hi there, got the same problem too with my optimus black. Screen goes flickering, shut down don't do any good, and the phone temperature is kinda hot. But in my case it work after I clean some cache and data in the phone storage through LG OSP. After that, the phone temperature back to normal and the phone screen back to normal also. I believe that in my case the phone is overheated.
Hi,
Last week I used to be outside with much rainy condition.
Though it never got totally under water, many times it's screen got wet with substantial rain drops.
Slowly, phone started misbehaving with following symptoms,
1. Around 10% of left side of touch screen doesn't show response. I enabled show touches from developer option and when I try to touch left side, say "a" letter in keyboard, it doesn't show touches and pointer jumps immediately to left edge.
2. Many times, I am not able to unlock phone as no touch are detected.
3. After unlock, many times though I am not touching phone, it shows couple of pointers (I enabled show touches in developer option to trace this) on left edge. It keeps moving resulting in erratic behavior, say screen zooms in and out, some icons clicked automatic, deleted automatic etc.
4. Sometimes I noticed that capacitive buttons are also not responding.
For all above, I have to off (not complete switch off)and on the phone. After few attempts, it becomes responding except point 1 above.
I have reflashed ROM (Vivikat) just to ensure it's not software issue.
Now it seems hardware issue with following two possibilities...
1. It's matter of some moisture in phone only. I have to try hard to dry out all moisture and phone will become responding.
2. Digitizer has some issue and may call for replacement (I don't want to do that...:crying.
Can you guys share your views/experience and advise?

I just had touch screen issues but not with water or rain. It was the CPU. Almost whenever I overclocked it, I had touch screen issues. Both misbehaving and not behaving at all. Change the CPU frequency and restart the phone and see what happens. :good:

Thanks for your reply.
I have never overclocked my device.
However, I tried to underclocked it if by any chance, it can solve the issue.
But issue still there.
A small portion of left column on touch screen seems not responding or giving erratic behavior.
Does, water can damage digitizer to that extent that can not be recovered even after drying
Or, I should keep hope and wait more before I go for digitizer replacement

If the digitizer is damaged, it is probably done. But if you can open the open, check the digitizer and see if there are any things stuck on it. My recommendation: ask an engineer to open it and clean it with the special spray they use to clean electronic parts. Maybe the water has had only a side effect and it will be fixed by cleaning the digitizer.

I loved to hear your words, as I have still hope for resolving issue without replacement of digitizer :fingers-crossed:
I'll find some engineer to get it serviced....and post update.

You're Welcome buddy! :highfive:
Hey, I have replaced my broken and LCD with new one(not original) every thing works fine but some times my "touch" considered as "touch and hold" behaves like ghost touch so its very difficult to type and use device with this phenomena. I tried calibration decreasing/increasing hold time but nothing works. Is there any way to decrease the sensitivity of touch?
