How well does the front of the Dot View case stick to the phone?
The flap doesn't seem to adhere to the phone much. It'll flop open pretty easy.
Can you give us a better run down on the Dot View case?
I was looking to get myself one from ebay.
yes
It's too bad...
It's too bad we can't get a decent case for this phone. It is turning out to be a decent phone and I have now moved both of my children to this phone and my girlfriend in the next few weeks with Virgin's new sale price.
The HTC Desire 510's Dot View case, in my own experience, is a great case for looks. It features a neat semi-translucent dot pattern on the flap that covers the phone screen. When the flap is closed, the case turns the screen off. If you either push the power button while the case is closed or quickly open then close the case, it lights up the screen with a ingenious LED-scoreboard-like design, providing you things like the time, weather, and other notifications.
In terms of protection of the phone itself, it does not do it well. It offers the same level of protection that a crappy iPhone case would provide. If you drop the phone on it's screen, you have a high risk of damaging it due the face that it lacks any kind of embossing around the screen.
Another thing I found annoying about it is that if I place it on a metal surface with this case on it, no matter if the case is closed or not, it turns my screen off. Must have something to do with the magnets...
The case can be bought off of HTC's website for $40, or off of Amazon for $30.

Look on Ebay for "Dagi" or go to Dagi`s web site (they make them for HTC) , they are a lot cheaper and exactly the same, also available in different sizes and colours.
Ordered mine direct and took 7 days to arrive, paid an extra 2hk dollars and had my name engraved on it.
( I have one for sale on Ebay £7 inc p&p to UK)

No they aren't. Various websites have used photos of the Dagi stylus when talking about the HTC one, but always with the magic words "for display purposes only" - in other words, it's not actually a picture of the HTC product, just a place-holder.

Roumor has it that the official HTC stylus is indeed a re-branded DAGi stylus.
I guess we'll have to waid for the actual photo on some retailer (let's say clove) to see - but - mentioning "clove" - for a long long time, thay had a place holder picture without any picture, and a few days ago, thay too, put up a DAGi-like stylus image, which makes me go towards the conclusion that the patented htc tip-point stylus is not going to show up any time soon.

If you look at htcaccessorystore.com they show a Dagi branded as HTC
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=193951
But isnt the HTC stylus with a curved tip and the Dagi stylus with a flat oval tip
The HTc branded one looks like it has a slightly smaller head than the Dagi one, or maybe the barrel is a bit bigger..
so did anyone get the official HTC stylus yet? and can anyone confirm if it's just the dagi rebadged stylus?
I have grown used to not having a stylus... so I dont think I'll need one..

Stylus Tip looks like a hook.
Does this hook onto the device somwhere.
More importantly is Handwriting Recognition possible with this.
How do you enable Transcriber in the Software !
Thanks in advance

How accurate will it be with the stylus? Good enough for drawing or handwriting?
Anyone tried the stylus? Does it work?
I guess there are no reviews as nobody currently has it.
We like to keep our customers updated and we just wanted to let you know that HTC has now delayed release of the new HD2 Stylus until February - no precise date has yet been confirmed.

was surfing taobao for a deal on the dagi's...
one buyer said that usage is not as swift as the demo video... perhaps there's a learning curve to place the tip.
I also realised that the screen will only respond to a minimal surface area of nearly 1 cm across.
I've tried desserts spoons which touch very well (played a game of freecell with it) but of course obscure the view
I have just received the official “HTC Capacitive Stylus STC400”…
I tested with my touch HD2 but its NOT working at all!
I suggest: don’t buy this thing… it’s a waist of money!!!
I send it back to HTC!....
That does not sound promising. I was really hoping that this would let me scribble notes.

What do you mean, they've sent you a defective one?
Can the HTC stylus only be purchased in the UK?
Can the failure of the htc stylus be demoed?
Hi everyone. Just thought I would share a link to a good teardown video.

Thanks for the video link. It's a much more informative piece than the iFixit teardown. Interesting that there's a reset button that has been covered up. I downloaded the video for future reference.
BTW, love the dude's narration. Have to check out his video feed.

Edit: I'm wondering about the possibility of oxidation on the leaf contacts (which connect the three antennas) over time.
I love his video blog as well as his forum. I'm not sure about the leaf contacts... I know my HTC Evo 4g LTE has them for the antenna on the back cover as well.

i kept thinking he was gonna pull a crocodile hunter move and be like LOOK AT THAT LETS SPIT ON IT
That's an excellent video. Makes me feel like I know so much more about my nexus 7. More people in this forum need to watch this video. Google/Asus obviously went all out on this device. We see the proof in this video. They got top notch high quality parts for included stuff. I love the fact the battery is easily replaceable. Can't wait till 3rd. Party manufacturers come with their batteries THST will last even longer. The battery being easily replaceable is the biggest factor in increasing its longivity. Its easy for the user to replace. Even easier for Asus/Google techs to replace. Very efficient design. This is not some cheapo battery in here. Then the star of everything is likely the GPS/accelorometer integration in. One chip. This is a very high tech and high quality component. Worlds first and only 6 axis motion. Even has a built in processor for it. Then also dual mode GPS and glosnass reception. That component had so many great and complex features I can't even restate them all. Then by the headphone jack and mini or micro USB being separate, those are likely replaceable also.
What really interested was the possible reset holes he found. One being covered up. The other, on same side, right above 4 connectors, is another hole. Which is exposed and could possibly be another reset hole. Has anyone tried sticking anything in there to see if its one? Or will I have to be the first to try. What I'm hoping is THST its not a second mic hole. He only mentioned THST hole as a possible 2nd reset hole.
Brb, I about to see if it is one..lmfao. wish me luck!
Update: that hole is not a reset hole from what I see. I put something in there and pressed softly. Nothing happened. Pressed a little harder and still nothing. Kinda felt like pressing aagainst rubber as it had some flex/pushback. I didn't go extreme and really force something all the way. As it could just possibly be another mic hole and I don't want to punch a hole through it..lol
So the question now is what about the hole that's covered up by the case? If someone removes the back and test it out, they can confirm whether that one is a reset hole or not. If it is a reset hole, then we could easily mod/punch a tiny hole on the side backing to have it exposed and use when we see fit.
>So the question now is what about the hole that's covered up by the case?

I would tape the back cover before drilling, in case the rubber shreds (I doubt it, but to be safe).
I know I might get blasted for this but, I wonder if in the future there will be a way to buy a camera and plug and play it to work. I Remember the old Samsung vibrant had an open space for an ffc and we ended up being able replace the camera with a int'l galaxy camera and it worked. I just think a tablet of this size is still good for picture taking.

Firstly, let me congratulate Sony for allowing a lanyard to be attached! My Galaxy note doesn't have a lanyard hole and neither did my last Desire Z, Desire or HD2.
They are sooo useful for getting phones out of pockets by the strap, using the phone one handed or of course preventing the phone slipping out of your hand. And believe it or not, the Xperia Z having one was a major reason in me buying it!
Anyway, does anyone have plans on getting a particular strap?
On amazon, some reviews of cheap ones mentioned them breaking, so I'm thinking of using a wii controller strap which may match my white Z quite well.
I'm very pleased to see it too. It's a great little feature - i have no idea why it disappeared from the market. I'm going to use the one that Sony provided with PSP - maybe something better if you guys find something worth recommending
The Wii strap is a great idea for a wrist lanyard
If I want a neck lanyard for any reason, I'll probably just use the one my work ID badge hangs on.
R: What lanyard strap will you use?
I don't understand why they didn't put one in the box.. It's a very cheap optional.

Lanyard straps are a very Japanese thing to use. I love them and this is another small thing that make the XZ a great phone.

I second the Wii remote strap recommendation. Been using it with my Note 2.
Using these ones:
Genuine UltraFire® High Quality leather led torch wrist strap lanyard tether UK
&
EDC Paracord lanyard wrist strap Mil spec 550 7 strand genuine US Gov contract (ACU camo)
If links don't work google for litetek-uk store
Also these rings seem really good for a phone use:

the lanyard option definitive sold me over. will be perfect for this summer. I do alot of boating, and killed a couple of phones at sea, usually intoxicated .
now I can fall in the sea with the phone in my pocket without killing it. also fitting a flotation device with the lanyard strap makes sure that it dont go to the bottom of the sea...
after the Xperia V i will never go back to a non-waterproof phone..

Ye, it formerly was there, but an admin decided to move it a while ago to Q&A, because the threads subject... was a question
Alright guys, so here is something that I have been trying to figure out for a few days now (to no avail) and would appreciate if someone can chime in with their opinion on this.
Recently got my hands on an Clear View cover for the Note 5. I know Its not the best cover out there when it comes to protecting your Note 5 and with the Clear View fiasco for scratching up the screen and what not, but since its kind of hard (if not impossible) to come across a reasonable variety of accessories where I live (hoping against all odds to come across a UAG locally) I took a quick look at Samsung's official website for the covers functionality and made the leap.
The thing that has been irking me is that the description for the Clear View case on Samsung's websites mention a few features that are just not there. For example (amongst others),
"Swipe to preview expandable Messages/Missed Calls, Access Quick Camera and Video Recorder, Access Favorite Contacts, or Access Settings and App Notifications"
I cannot post a link to the description since it is my first post on these forums (been a lurker for a few years). But you can easily find it if you look up the Note 5 Clear View cover on any of Samsung's websites or even on ebay, etc.
Since buying the cover I have tried to look up reviews, YouTube videos, forums, etc in the hopes of being able to use the advertised functionality. Haven't been able to find anyone who has been able to get the Swipe to preview thing to work, or display the weather through the Clear View cover, not to mention the other actions in Samsung's description. No one seems to be complaining about it either, aside from the occasional "Yeah, it could do more at the price" passing remark.
Sure, accepting/rejecting calls works, I can get some basic controls for Samsung's music player through it, can see icons for missed calls/text messages. However, not being able to preview things is sort of a deal breaker.
To compress my primary dilemma in a nutshell, am I missing something here? Is there anyone out there who has used a Clear View cover on a Note 5 with the features working as advertised?
If you remove magnet from the case you will be able to access to all the phone
It will scratch your screen after a while. Return it, get a Dr. V case.
I had a Clear View cover and returned it for the S View cover. That description is for the S View cover. If you don't have what's below than those features don't exist for the Clear View cover.

Has anyone tried it? I tried disabling the magnet by sliding a slim piece of stainless steel between the front flap and the screen. It does show me the standard lockscreen through the cover, however I think it disables touch being detected through the cover, haven't able to interact with the lockscreen through the cover.

Not worried about the screen scratches, I have a glass screen protector on the screen. Can't return the case in my country, sadly. I admit I should have gone with some other case. I like the Dr. V case, I'm going to try to find either that or the UAG.
Yeah, I guess. I still find it odd that samsung has the wrong description in place for the item. I can't add a link so I am including the url below.
samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EF-ZN920CBEGUS[/url]
Interestingly, I think the sensor on my case malfunctioned once. I could see the weather through the cases as well as detailed notifications that I could actually swipe to preview. The UI layout was different from the standard lockscreen, closer to what you would find on the S-view. Sadly, that just happened once for a few seconds before reverting back to its established uselessness.
Being a Chinese phone (I mean a proper one only sold in China) there is not much choice for cases in the UK.
Any recommendations.

I have accumulated 7 cases in total for this phone, all made by Xiaomi. (It's mostly due to a series of coincidences, I don't think I've had so many cases for all my previous phones in total.):

The Smart Cover: I have three of them in black, white, and "military green." The quality is actually very decent and it doesn't make the phone much thicker. If you are after a case that covers every part of the phone, I'd recommend it. If I had to pick just one color, I'd choose the brownish green one. There's also a real-leather smart cover but it seems to be out of stock.
The Real-Wood Shell Case: I have two, bamboo and the darker one (I think the tree is called Dalbergia in English). This just covers the back and the sides of the phone, leaving the front exposed. The wood on the back is very nice but although the edge is very well made, it's still plastic, and the metal frame being covered by it would look way better otherwise. Wouldn't really hurt them to make this part out of metal, of which they have an oversupply in China anyway... Still not bad though. Of the two, the lighter one pairs better with the phone, mostly due to the lighter bezel. There is also a way to have the glass back of your phone replaced with the same choices of wood, although I wouldn't do that as it's permanent and the glass is going to be more durable.
The Fiber-Textured Shell Case: I have it in grey, and it doesn't really pair up well with the golden bezel on the phone. It's also not going to be very durable, neither is it as nice to touch as it's supposed to be. I wouldn't recommend it. Anyway, it seems to be out of stock now.
Finally, the Transparent Shell Case: a very simple, no-nonsense one, and it lets the phone keep its original look. Not really thinner than the cases above though, so don't but it for this reason.
To sum it up, from among the ones I have, if you want the whole phone covered - I'd get the military green, if only the back and the sides - the bamboo one.
