Hi,
few days ago I noticed a exclamation mark in a triangle (warning) in notification bar. It says "Security information - The device has detected an application attempting to perform actions that are not permitted ", when I click on it i have to options. Restart now and Restart later.
I googled and noticed few others have same problem. I tried holding notification, and delete cache and force stop KNOX notification manager, because it helped others. After 4-5 minutes however, notification was back. I even tried factory reset. Didn't help...
Next solution was to delete KNOX completly and when I tried to do it... KNOX wasn't even installed.
I find 3rd solution and in settings under security I unchecked Auto update security, because it helped a few Note 3 owners. Still nothing. After few minutes another notification.
At that point I ran out of options so if anyone got a solution I would really appriciate it.
There were a few solution, but all required rooted phone, and my S3 isn't rooted and never was.
cheers!

Hello,
My SGT p1010 got unresponsive (the display didn't want to turn on) and I held the power key untill shut down. After turning on again, the home and search keys are touchable (I get the vibrant feedback), but there isn't any action performed. I unfroze some samsung stuff I had frozen before that and restarted, but no effect.
As a side effect, the icons and widget (accuweather) I placed manually on the desktop disappeared, and the programs got sorted by name (not like before - the latest installed - after the earlier ones).
Was this some kind of soft-hard reset?! No info disappeared though..
Any ideas why is this happening and how to fix it?
Well, I just did factory reset and it's all ok now..
It will happen again
i had the same problem. went to a samsung store and they updated the gt software. they were sure that the update was the solution to the issue, but it happened again. please contact samsung support to make them know this important problem.
Same problem here.
Contacted Samsung. Waiting for a call.
Problem:
- Home screen reset to factory settings. Some settings like key sounds reenabled
- Home and Search key not working
All account settings and apps are still there.
Also when you shutdown the phone there is only one option "shut down". There were 3 before. Like offline mode and one other option i don't remember.

I've had this problem for the past 6 weeks since I got my gt p1010. It happens a couple of times per week. Grrrrr.
The Kies solution fixes the home key & lock button issue and all the apps are there, however I get the following two things:
* All Homepage data is lost (I have to re-do all of my homepage icons)
* My browser bookmarks are all lost
Haven't done a factory reset as I'm not convinced this will fix the issue - that certainly seems to be the case for Malicieux anyway!!
Might this be something to do with pattern lock??
Has anyone found a solution to this yet?????
We need a firmware update and fast!!!
P1010 Home and Search Key not working
Hi Guys,
I have read your posts and have also had this really annoying problem.
The last time I did a factory reset, I have intentionally not installed any additional apps or setup my Exchange e-mail client, as I strongly suspect that it will be down to something like this.
I have not had any problems at all so far - where before it would lock up and reset multiple times in one day.
I have not yet installed any of the previous apps I had, but I will be installing one a day until I find it crash again.
It didn't have many apps on their but here are a list. I am curious to see if anyone who has also experienced these issues had installed the same apps as me.
Skype, BBC Iplayer, GoogleSky
or were connected to an Exchange account.
I have setup my exchance account once more today - but without checking the Sync Calender or contacts options.
It has been working for 1/2 day with still no problems.
I suggest everyone else who has this problem does the same and we nail down the offending app!
You will need to do a factory reset - not a Kies Sync fix - because you will always get the problem again (because you still have the offending setup / app)
Let's nail this down!
I have a P1000, so not sure how valid this is. I searched on Google and there appears to be an Android issue 8503 (I think?) related to this:
Home button vibrates but no action
Search doesn't work
cut-down "power off" menu
no security lock
I experienced this issue repeatedly when updating Overcome ROM, I narrowed it down to restoring backed up apps. So I've downloaded apps from the market and restored data from Titanium Backup. I think I've got a contaminated back-up somewhere.
Since not restoring apps (after trying at least twice, maybe 3x), my system has been stable. While not pinpointing the issue, I hope this helps someone...?
@ irw030370 same here...
@ snesy i think the problem lies with Skype.
my father has the same problem with his P1010 ans the same temporal solution when connecting the tab to his pc ( he does not need to start Kies, just connect it with a usb cable )
I did a reset once but installed all the SW directly after that...
strange thing is that my mother has also a p1010 same version of FW and so on and does not have that problem...
next week i'll get my hands on his tab and will perform a hard reset, and do as you suggest.
Will update my findings later on...
Greets,
T.
Edit :
With the basic install, added only skype and some email accounts. I did not have an issue.
Still looking...
Hi all
any advance on this problem?
You should update to Android 2.3.
Check Kies or follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410035
I did not have any problems with this new version so far.
This is one of the weirdest problems I've had. I'll try to be very specific. I'm running Android 6.0 on a Moto G 2014. I was just using my phone, on YouTube, when it decides to randomly reboot. Ok, just an error. Then I noticed that my phone's lockscreen never shows up anymore, and I can't pull down the quick settings. I thought it was just an error from the unexpected reboot it had, so I do a full reboot. No change. Okay, maybe clearing cache and dalvik will solve this. Cleared, reboot, Android is Upgrading, and no change. Okay, now I'm worried. So I restore a system backup from a month ago, reboot, and no change. I also tried uninstalling xposed framework, and no change. Now I don't know what else there is to do before factory resetting, because I really don't want to do that. By the way, here's all of the problems I've noticed since that reboot:
Can't pull down notifications.
Lockscreen will not show up at all.
Home button does not work at all, pressing it does nothing. I have to press back if I want to get to the homescreen.
"Developer options are not available for this user" error screen, even though I'm the only user
adb won't respond (probably for the reason above)
I get no notifications at all
I can't receive calls
Any tips or steps I should take to find this problem? Any help is appreciated.
Solved
Restoring System, Data, and Boot from early June took the problem away. But it bothers me that I'll never know what the problem was.
Good morning everyone. I have been a long time lurker. Thanks to the incredibly talented people on this forum, I was able to root my phone about 8 months ago. Now I hope that someone here can help me. About a month ago I experienced a screen glitch. I picked up my phone one day and it suddenly had a black bar across the screen along with scrambled pixels. I tried to reboot, got stuck in loop. So I booted into twrp and did a full restore. Everything was working fine for a fee days, then I started to notice things were wrong. I can no longer get Bluetooth or my mobile hotspot to turn on. I click the button in settings and the widgets on my homescreen. They will slide to on back be greyed out. They never turn on, in fact if unleavened one of the settings, the slider is off again when I return to it. App in my apk drawer all say app not installed when I try to uninstall them. Uninstalling them with lucky patcher, google play (for official apps) and the built in "Make more storage" in settings, is the only way to uninstall apps. The apps setting crashes when I try to uninstall through that. The only way to install 3rd party apk files is through lucky patcher. I have cleared cache files and data in apps that had it. Bluetooth widget app along with some other apps always show 0.00 data. When I try to open my data usage setting it informs me that there is no activity found for this action. Hardware test show that Bluetooth is fine, I am suspecting serious software failure. I have even tried a factory reset a few times to no avail. Thank you again for all of your hard work and I hope some of you will be able to guide me through at least some of my problem. Btw, I have not installed any custom roms. I had xposed a few weeks before my problems started. After realizing how much space it used up along with the tweaks, I decided to remove it. I am in no way saying that xposed is to blame, just stating that I had it installed at one point. One more thing, I have searched the forum and google, for solutions to individual issues. Tried all the things I read to do. I'm still on lollipop also. HTC sync doesn't recognize my phone as being connected either
I bought a Moto X (2014) with a broken/damaged screen for super cheap. When I bought it, it vibrated and made sounds so I knew it was functional. The next day, the alarm woke me up so I turned it off. The day after it happened again, so I just let it ring under a pillow until the phone died. Yesterday, the screen replacement finally arrived and I performed the switch myself.
When I tested the screen before closing it back up, the phone wouldn't boot, but the screen itself appeared to be functional so I closed it back up. The infamous green light issue was occurring, no doubt due to the fact that I let the battery drain completely then left it in a drawer for about a month, in addition to God knows what the previous owner had done to it.
After several hours of hooking it up to various chargers and cables and computers and performing a seemingly infinite number and duration of button combinations, it finally booted up, and started to charge normally.
Only then I realized it was still protected by the pattern code from the previous owner. Due to fear of FRP, I kept trying to crack the pattern code to no avail. Eventually I said frick it and went into bootloader mode to try and unlock the bootloader, but it turns out that adb is not enabled, and neither is the "allow bootloader unlock". So I said frick it and hit factory to reset the phone, but the phone simply rebooted. Odd. Alright, so I hooked it up to a computer in bootloader mode and performed fastboot erase userdata. Upon reboot, FRP had kicked in.
Hours of searching yielded various methods of bypassing this, none of which worked. However due to the blessing/curse (more on that later) that it's on Marshmallow, I was able to use a Google Assistant loophole to access pretty much the entire device (minus Google apps, including the play store). This included the settings app. To my dismay, I'm unable to activate dev options and the reset button is greyed out, no doubt due to a group policy preventing these functions until the owner's Google account is entered.
I came across a method that showed a lot of promise. Through the use of an app called Quick Shortcut Manager, it allows you to log into any Google account and once you reboot afterwards, FRP is no longer an issue. However in my case, since I seem to be exceptionally lucky, during the sign in process, the phone reboots unexpectedly. How very odd. Retried several times under various conditions, including Force Stopping all Google apps (which returns the navbar buttons, without function, and also the notification tray but not quick settings).
Alright. I installed Telegram via apk and logged in. As soon as I logged in, the phone reboots unexpectedly again, which leads me to believe that this random reboot occurs whenever ANY account is added to the device (because Telegram accounts are saved under Settings > Accounts).
Knowing I'm stuck with a locked bootloader and no way of unlocking it without accessing dev options which I'm unable to do, I decided to try flashing an earlier build. I downloaded 4.4.4 and 5.0.1 factory images and proceeded to try flashing 4.4.4, to no avail, since apparently downgrading is also impossible with a locked bootloader. Most commands returned a "remote failure" response. I continued anyway and upon reboot I discover that nothing has changed. I've tried this with both system images.
I tried RSD Lite as well but it won't even detect the phone in fastboot/bootloader mode (on Windows 10 Insider Preview). Tried with admin privileges. The "fastboot flash" option in the Config menu was greyed out for some reason.
I've hit a roadblock. I'm so ready to just toss this phone out the window but I decided to come here and ask for help first. Please, XDA. Do not fail me.
P.S. I've lost contact with the owner because I bought the phone on a local equivalent of Craigslist so neither the ad nor my communication with him still exists. And even if by some miracle I managed to find one, it would do me no favors if he would remove the account via Google Device Manager because I've already reset it. The only thing he can do for me is log into the phone using his email and password and then reset it, which would require going somewhere with WiFi that is also public all the while making sure he doesn't try to steal the phone back now that it's fixed.
Edit 2: Ever since I added the Telegram account, the phone is no longer usable, since it reboots unexpectedly as soon as it connects to WiFi and discovers that an account has been added to the device. I'm going to reset it again so I can continue using it with these limitations.
I remember once on a Samsung device I found a pre-rooted IMAGE file and flashed it via fastboot and that fixed everything. I can't seem to find anything of the sort for this phone though.
I've found instructions on how to convert a ZIP ROM into a system image, but those instructions are only for Linux.
Kept finding my phone require the "password required after reset" - this happened like 20-30 times yesterday (and yet I was busy and could never "catch" it happening, most I'd notice is seeing the Samsung logo on the screen.
1 . I 've not installed any 3rd party app recently
2. This still happens in safe mode, so I think it is not being caused by an app at all
3. This happened after I install the most recent updates
Anyone know anything that can help? I haven't find any news on the update causing problems and I really hope I won't have to factory reset.
Edit - UPDATE - After unsuccessfully trying to find any solution I may have found one issue in my googling that could be the culprit - I disabled fingerprinting in my biometrics and for the last hour or two it is not restarted I'll keep watching and report back if it causes it but I found a single post somewhere in my googling that mentioned the security update causing the restarting to happen when he had fingerprinting enabled. It sucks because I use that frequently but I guess I'll just have to wait - what I don't understand is why I can't find any information about this being a problem reported by other users currently - I'm googling and filtering my results for the last day and the last week and not finding anything related to this security update patch
EDIT - 3 PM - (basically 8 hours) - no restart at all since turning off Finger Print (and restarting device once to make sure it was a clean reboot) - So yeah, the June 25th android security on my Samsung note 9 made a bug where if you have finger printing enabled, it will force your phone to restart. (I think the reason is the phone requires a password once you reboot, so it's a protection thing I guess).
The phone will never allow you to use a fingerprint for access after a restart or reboot. Non-biometric sign-in only.

I am aware of that.
So tell me why it continually reboots then? I've signed in with my password everytime.

I'm sorry I can't help you any further. You seem like an intelligent and eloquent person, but I might suggest to you that a 'please' and 'thanks' go a long way...
