[Q] Bluetooth Issues After Stopping Sixaxis Controller - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, so I recently spent some time learning up on these awesome forums, and at least for getting started I decided to just modify stock 2.2, I have just really wanted to be able to play games using my ps3 controller on my nook so I thought the easiest path was to root using the Universal Rev3, and the Unknown Apps, at least to get me started. I have a bluetooth keyboard I also use with this setup for school. Okay so that's the upfront details.
My issue is that, while my bluetooth is connecting fine with everything before I run sixaxis, and my controller works (yay, i got what i wanted!) while I'm running the program, it's when I stop sixaxis and it restores my bluetooth (or says it does... or gets stuck and never says it does) my bluetooth simply can't be switched back on until after I reboot... I've completely stopped and disabled and cleared the cache on the sixaxis app... and nothing, still won't turn back on. Now this is a cadillac issue, my controller works, my keyboard works, but I just have to reset. The problem is that I know it shouldn't be this way and if it has to be, I'll survive, but if not I'd love a way to make it work right, or at the very least see if there's an option to... "respring" (I know that's an iphone thing I just didn't know if there was a faster equivalent to a reboot without having to completely turn it off and back on)?
Anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts? Any options? Thanks for your time and information, have a great day!

"t's when I stop sixaxis and it restores my bluetooth (or says it does... or gets stuck and never says it does) my bluetooth simply can't be switched back on until after I reboot..."
Obviously, its at the fault of the app, because otherwise (sixaxis not installed/used) bluetooth would function properly and no restart would be required.
Therefore, sixaxis is not ending support of the controller properly, re-enabling bluetooth support, or whatever its trying to do for the device, android version, or whatever its problem is in code.
Probably good to let the app's dev know about it and find out if they say anything.
Since root access is required, it definitely requires some deeper access to android (the deeper the more problems are likely to occur). Some code doesn't even work for all devices and they could have gone that route with their app knowingly - whether it was a necessary side effect due to the type of app they created or specifically because of a workaround of what google allows devs to do with android.
Either way it is often an app with problems as reviews show.

Hey thanks a ton for the information. I had started to suspect that but since I'm a noob here I thought it was best to ask. Will contact the developer. But hey for now if all I have to do is a reset after a gaming session to make all things right, it's not so bad. Thanks again!
EDIT: Okay, so after doing some fiddling with my own Nook HD+ it looks like the Nook itself has trouble shutting down bluetooth! When I go into my battery use bluetooth is staying on permanently after initially turning it on. The time continues to run no matter what I do or shutdown with Android Task Manger. And it appears I'm not the only one. http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...Bluetooth-won-t-turn-off-Nook-HD/td-p/1462091
Also since mine is rooted and has unknown sources installed I felt like I needed a control group. So I borrowed my wifes Nook HD+ which is completely stock, no mods at all... and it does the exact same thing... This is mind boggling. Could a few people turn their bluetooth on long enough to register in their battery monitor, then turn it off, and tell me if their time is still running for the bluetooth? It would really help me identify whether this a software problem with Nook software, or it's a hardware issue that they had amongst several models and they shipped with bad parts, etc. Thanks!

It could also be this or similar: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=69135
Quote, "Problem: When turning off the Jawbone, it causes the Bluetooth(BT) to misbehave and not turn off nor function."
...Though that's for android 4.4.2 and nook 2.2 is android 2.2... wow that's old... that could of course be it as well - if the problem is with android, it could have been fixed in a later android version.
In the end, it doesn't appear to have to do with the device itself, but perhaps with that android version's bluetooth package or an installed app. And which android version (if any) would work for you idk. I remember people saying cm and sixaxis didn't work with bluetooth on the nook in the past, so if that's still the case, don't know that either.
I'm not sure how far back many apps are going today with android versions but something like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect&hl=en
could possibly do something(?). But, I'm just reaching there for anything in the you never know category.
But hopefully that gives a better picture as to what it could be. Sorry, I can't give an actual [working] solution, though for all I know I gave a path to the only solution.

[Q] Internal Service Error - Lack of network....

Several months ago I installed CM10 on my Nook HD+ and for the most part everything runs perfectly.
However in mid March I installed a Cyanogen update and very soon after I noticed many of my apps (all downloaded from Amazons app of the day) would not run, giving me the following error:
Internal Service Error: An internal error occurred. This can be caused by a lack of network connectivity, please make sure you have a good network connection.
At the time, I Googled and tried the suggestions I found (although the suggestions were all for other devices such as Kindle Fire). I checked the time and date were correct, deregistered and reregistered my device and tried rebooting.
And that seemed to fix the issue, although I concede I havent been using the Nook much lately.
Tonight I went to use my Nook to play a few games and the problem is back and its even worse now. I now cannot play any of my games, even ones I have played numerous times before without any wifi turned on. We dont have wifi at home, I tether my phone when I want to use the internet on my Nook. I do know there are some games that require internet access, however the vast majority of mine dont, which I know for a fact as I've played them so often with no internet.
So, why all of a sudden, does everything need wifi? How can I fix this? Is it just coincidence the problem occurred immediately after a system update, and if it could be the update that caused it, how can I find out which update it was and can it be uninstalled?
The instances of this I found mentioned online mainly referred to it happening to just one app, and some people found uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixed the issue. But I have close to 200 apps all doing this.
Since I mainly use the Nook for playing these games, its useless to me as it is now and if I cant fix this issue I wont have any choice but to remove the Mod and return it to stock software, which I really dont want to have to do.
Please can someone help me with this, in basic, non-technical language please?
Thank you.
Hello?
Please, does anyone have any input on this problem? Have I asked in the wrong forum?
I asked about this in another forum and it was suggested that maybe the update made my Nook appear like a new device to Amazon and that the error message is the games wanting to confirm with Amazon that the license to run the game was correct (or something along those lines).
I have just tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of games and now they work so it would appear that suggestion is exactly what has happened. So I guess I now have to uninstall and redownload all those 200+ apps and games, which is going to be a nightmare with no internet at home.
And if updates cause the device to appear different, then how do I know this wont keep happening with future updates? I am not going to keep reinstalling every thing, so do I just turn updates off instead? That doesnt seem like a very wise idea.
I would really appreciate some help with this please, or even just to be pointed in the right direction if I should be asking elsewhere.
Thank you.
Well I guess no one has any advise or help of any kind to offer. I will post this update in case anyone else has the same issue.
I ended up having to uninstall and redownload every one of my apps, and now they all work fine again, so I can only assume the suggestion I received on a different forum that the update made my device appear as a new device, meaning the internet was needed for the apps to check licenses with Amazon was correct.
With this in mind, I would now never recommend the Cyanogen mod to any one else. Whats the point if updates are going to screw everything like this? I have now turned off the updates, which I would normally never do. When my Nook gets to the stage of having to have updates I will uninstall Cyanogen and just go back to using a stock Nook.
Its a shame as I have been very happy with it up until all this happened but since there is no back up or support from anyone when things go wrong, its simply not worth the hassle.

Text and SMS display via bluetooth

Looking for opinions and suggestions for enabling texts and SMS messages to display on the MTCB unit while driving. What, if anything are you guys using?
I searched around already, and found one thread where someone was using tasker and other functions to get messages displayed on the unit from their phone, but that solution didn't appear to be very reliable.
Is there an app that everyone is using? Or am I just late to the party? lol
I realize quite a few of you are using 3G connections with your MTCB, so this conversation is more geared towards those utilizing their Bluetooth only phone connection.

Even using a 3G/4G dongle cannot solve the SMS reception problem because these SMS are normally sent to the phone number, not to the 3G/4G SIM number. At most the dongle can be used to send SMS.
ATM no easy solution to this problem (and for social networks use too).
Have you looked at Tablet Talk? I'm not sure it would work over BT since the BT in these devices is locked down, but I believe there is also the option of using Wifi.
The other thread was mine and I was looking for the same thing
As mentioned above, I don't think it's actually possible with these units since it seems the Bluetooth is locked down. Can't remember the specific details but I'm sure it's to do with the Bluetooth service that handles the messages.
I could be wrong though but I know its not possible with tasker anyway and I don't think tablet talk works with Bluetooth cause I looked into that too. At the moment the way I do it is through data which as you say isn't quite as reliable
If you find anything though let me know

That's why I started this thread, to see if anyone had made any breakthroughs since your initial post. I went ahead and wasted the money on Tablet Talk, and I can confirm that the Bluetooth connection is the issue (Error Code:1) with our units. This seems like such a basic feature that Android would be capable of... my wife's Jeep does it automatically in Uconnect.
One thing I was considering trying with TabletTalk is to go into the factory settings, with the 126 password, and toggle around the Bluetooth type the unit is currently using. I know saving anything in this menu will effectively reset my unit, unless I save settings in Xposed, so I need a block of time to try it that I don't have right now. If it would even make a difference.

WIFI Stopped working.

I've had my two TP's rooted for years, mainly JC Sullins' builds. My wife's TP stopped connecting to our wireless, and she gave up on it a few years ago. I dusted it off, did a clean install with the TP Toolbox and loaded JC's Cyanogen 12.1-20160109. I also took the opportunity to delete the WEBOS since we never used it anyway. Well, the upgrade to a new operating system didn't fix my wireless problem. It still shows that it's trying to turn the wifi on. It never happens.
I've been searching for days, and still can't find a solution to this dilemma. I'm a firm believer of searching for an answer first, and hate to admit that I can't figure it out.
What do I need to do here?
I also loaded my TP with the same build, and it works like a champ. Mine never had a wifi connection problem.
I'm all ears.

Give this a try, it's a shot in the dark but I had this happen back in CM7 or 9 days.
Power off bothfo the TP's. We'll use your's for the 'known good' device.
Change the channel on your router to a higher number, like maybe 12...
Power cycle the router. (sorry if this screws up any other devices that are attached.)
Power up TP#1 & see if it connects and verify that you can get out on the net.
Then try #2.
if a no-go go then grab this terminal emulator so we can grab some info using the good ol' command line.
I wondering if the Wifi interface is dead but holding out hope that it isn't.
_Dan
Thank you for the reply.
I really can't get to my router right now to try that.
When I turn on her wireless setting, it just says "Turning wifi on...." and never does. I never get to see a list of available networks.
So what is this wifi interface that you speak of? I'll start looking into that.
Better still install this for retrieving syslogs. Someone in another thread recommended it and it is a lot easier to use.
_Dan
I finally got the SysLog installed. Opened it up, and there is a statement that there is - "No root access. Without root access, it's not possible to get system or modem logs, and with some 3.x kernels it also may not be able to get kernel logs."

Completely remove/disable android auto?

Does anyone have a method for completely disabling or removing Android Auto? Every time I plug my phone in to charge in my wife's truck, it pops up and I have to say "no." I don't have the app installed and the required software will never land on my phone (stripped down Lineage OS install). Is there a system app I can remove or setting I can change that will make it stop popping up?

There should a setting in the radio to disable Android Auto. In my Ford it is under Android Auto settings.
My wife uses it, so doing that would increase the number of steps that I have to take. (Would have to toggle off while I'm driving and remember to toggle back on when done so she doesn't get annoyed.) I'm trying to figure out how to disable it entirely or block the intent that signals it to start.

It shouldn't be starting should it? When I plug my sons phone in which doesn't have the AA app installed it doesn't start AA on head unit. When I plug my phone in it says something like AA device detected & AA on the head unit starts. So something must be wrong with trucks AA, I think, or maybe different car manufactures do things differently?
Are you sure you can't install app on your phone? If you could install the AA on your phone there is a rejected car list option, you can add your wife's truck there and it won't start… I guess (as I've never used that option)
Alternatively you could just use one of those cigarette lighter USB chargers… I have one of those as passengers are always running low on battery LOL.
Installing the app requires installing and enabling at least one other piece of software that is well known for being bad for privacy: Google. Putting that on my phone is a non starter for anything. It's worth trying to see if I can change that setting without having to install all the dependent software though.
Just wondering if you were able to solve this? I have the exact same issue. Crazy thing is that I had gotten rid fof the annoying Android Auto prompts but then the super helpful techs at Samsung screwed up my phone trying and failing to do something else. Now the prompts are back and I can't remember how I got rid of them in the first place.
what about a cable like this ? https://www.amazon.com/PortaPow-Micro-USB-Cable-Charging/dp/B0088HTYUE
Please help. I highly recommend nobody update Android phones! Android auto does not stop popping up and is extremely annoying. It doesn't work. And causes all kinds of delays and disrupt other applications that work fine. Anybody know how to get rid of the current Android auto that was updated today?

So you are saying Android Auto was installed on your phone by default & you can't uninstall it? If you can't uninstall AA you could "freeze it" with an app, Google "freeze bloatware" there are a number of ways of doing this (even without root) depending on android version
But first is Bluetooth auto start turned off? Have you added car to reject list in settings?
If that doesn't work you can activate developer options & set USB Configuration to "charge only", though that might stop USB working how you want when connecting to something else. Or use the charge only cable as mentioned above.

Android Auto for phone screens is final stopped?

Even the Android Auto for phone screens was retired for Android 12, you can still use it on old Androids 11, 10. A month ago a message appear "Android Auto for phone screens will stop working soon", but still can use it.
Today I tried to start the app and instead appear the Android Auto settings page and no more Android Auto for phone screens. I have Miui 12.5.7 with Android 11 and Android Auto 7.6.621734-release.
Its only me or they kill out AAFPS for good?
For me the same...
Android Auto is now on the scrap heap; in short it will no longer work as a stand-alone.
Google have thrown a kill-switch (2 days ago now) for discrete mode so that now, it can only work in screen-mirroring mode which necessitates a compatible infotainment system/head unit (check the message it opens with).
The official alternative on offer is Driving Mode in the Google Assistant. It's of dubious quality, especially for devices older than Android 10, where it really is just a shortcut to Google Maps.
Alternative apps/launchers are available but they are either expensive or just plain rubbish (and often both).
I'm sorry to hear this is confirmed. So no more Android Auto, I don't have a compatible infotainment system/head unit.
Driving Mode in the Google Assistant is a just simple no-go. Here in Romania we use a lot Waze for police report, traffic jams and bad roads. Also since romanian language is not supported , you can spell some small commands in english, but to convince it to drive you at address or even to call your mom is very difficult.
So now I'm without alternative .

Indeed - and you are not alone as many reviews on Google Play confirm.
One other option is to roll-back to an older version. If you don't have a backup then APKMirror might be for you:-
Android Auto on APKMirror
FWIW we have an older, 7/Nougat device running ver 7.4.62094-release and it seems to work still.
If you do try this, then be sure and disable auto-update for it in Google Play...

I'll give it a try: my Renault Megane is half destroyed and now I have to use (for long time) a Seat Leon without AA enabled!
I've started AA on my old (but still running fine) Motorola Moto G5 and is not working anymore... Problem is that the phone is running Android 8.1 so Drive Assistant is not available (it needs at least Android 9!)

Thank you for this thread!
This has been nagging me more than usual as AA for Phone Screens was something I've used daily. (strong feedback sent to google, not that it will do any good)
Tried with app version 7.3.620544 on Android 11 and I can launch it a few times, all good and functional. But after a few hours an internal update seems to check the installed and Play store versions, preventing me from starting the application without updating. So reinstall APK again. (a hassle)
Tried creating a re-signed version with Android Studio to block auto-updates, but the re-signed APK install itself is blocked due to signature mismatch - even after uninstalling for user 0. I fear this might be only possible with rooting the phone...
I would very much appreciate any other non-root option to get this functioning again. Curse you google for ruining google.
I also tried to modify the apk.
I was not successful. Therefore I gave up...
Google are literally murderers , besides all the people they have stranded or driven of the road or over ravines with their crappy maps app
they have probably killed thousands in traffic accidents with their garbage software
,this new "driving mode" is no exception , I mean AA was an absolute out of control garbage fire just like GA is but this "driving mode" is over the top
even for the complete morons over at Google.
I can not tell you how many accidents I have almost got into since they removed trusted voice unlock and now that this POS driving mode has replaced AA it has gotten MUCH worse, they should be sued for this dangerous crap they have forced on us, I will NOT be buying another pixel EVER.
fist of all this POS continually turns the screen off and locks the device forcing me to unlock the phone continuously while driving,
they are so S all stupid they didn't even bother to make it rotate to landscape mode and my car mount is for landscape only. (only people who hold their guns sideways would want to use their phones in portrait mode as they always seem to do when taking word star videos)
the "driving mode" is pure trash ,there are no audio controls, you can't use it if you just want to listen to music and for phone calls because it's tied to maps and you have be using navigation to use it.
there is NOTHING here of any value I mean who TF wants to read the New York Slimes, ever and especially WHILE DRIVING, yeah great replacement to music apps and music controls.
There is no way in hell I would ever give these evil bastards my biometric data so here I am trying to unlock my phone with a pattern every 30 seconds while it is mounted landscape and the unlock pattern is in portrait mode, I have to tilt my head or try and figure out my lock pattern adjusted for it being tilted 90 degree off while I'm driving every 30 seconds because the screen keeps turning off and locking the device even though I have "smartlock" (DUMBlock) enabled and my cars bluetooth added as a "trusted device" as well as a smart band, but it just seems to ignore the fact both are connected.
how in the actual F do any of these imbecilic A holes still have jobs, every single last one of them should have been kicked the F out on their arses a long time ago. , maybe we need to get Elon over there.

F it, I am just going to throw away my pixel and go back to IOS
I am F ing done , removal of trusted voice unlock was bad enough but this is the last straw.
My idea is to install an alternative launcher as soon as you are connected to your car's Bluetooth system. I mean a launcher made for driving with big icons and so on.
With tasker you could additionally make a task to increase the display timeout to infinite when connected to your car's Bluetooth system.

Because they have done exactly what The Chocolate Factory wants.
Android Auto was quite good in the past but then they realised a serious problem: It hurts sales.
So the aim then became to make everybody sick of it by degrees, breaking it a piece at a time until expectations reduce to the point the user base ebbs away.
So what's in it for them? Google are betting that Android's 'popularity' will oblige most of us to seek an alternative - but only if works with their device; that means buying a new infotainment system - one that is either Android Auto or stand-alone Android.
Google and OEMs (JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer etc) now have another major market cornered and if they have done their math right, all of us switching over will mean a windfall of revenue in new hardware sales and licence fees.
As for looking for a launcher, well good luck with that. We've tried several but not one has the ability to switch between driving and phone mode.
These two probably represent the best of what's left but again, neither is properly polished even for the paid versions:-
DashDroid on Google Play
AutoMate on Google Play
Failing that, get a TomTom!

Because they have done exactly what The Chocolate Factory wants.
Android Auto was quite good in the past but then they realised a serious problem: It hurts sales.

Thing is most cars don't have it still
the stand alone android units just suck because they don't have any connection method unless they use your phone as a hotspot , unless they have some with sim cards, but now sim cards are being phased out too, and I would not spend more money a month just to keep my head unit connected to GSM
I would buy a head unit if they made one that had wireless android auto baked in but there are none, at least not what I want, I want one for my BMW E46 that looks pretty close to stock, Android head units like that are a dime a dozen for this thing but none of them have AA or wireless AA
,what they should really make is a tablet that has wireless AA built in
or a fire tablet that acts as an echo show auto but with a screen
that you can mount to your dash ,sucks that all the hardware has been there to this for like a decade but because of theese big cancer monopolies we can't use the hardware to its full potential
I have yet to try reloaded yet but I have feeling it will not be good
but here is no reason this can't run on low end tablet like a fire tablet
maybe I will finally get around to trying out my echo auto that I picked up for $20 that has been sitting here not even unboxed for over a year now
thing is that my grom unit is a PITA to pair to my phone , you need to pull 3 different fuses to erase it and repair a new device and then once you do the feature that send the ID4 tags to the display on the radio might not work then you have to pair it all over agian , I am wondering if echo auto will send the track data to the grom and if it will display on the stock radio display like it does with the phone , then maybe I will just ditch GA altogether
its a horrible trash fire anyways , if Amazon made a fire phone again with hands free Alexa baked in I would buy it in hearbeat, anything to get rid of GA

Yeah ok ,see ya, I was thinking about buying a 7 pro but not now
F Google , I will NEVER buy another phone from them until they bring back trusted voice unlock and make their phones useable while driving
android is a nothing but a trash fire now, mainly because GA just sucks now
doesn't work while driving , doesn't work with hands free at all not even while using buds, unacceptable trash OS and very dangerous to use while driving people will die in accidents because of Googles moronic decisions and negligence, again F Google I'm out.

Many of us share your frustration and of course, you are at liberty to try alternatives if you think they are better.
Yet this is primarily a help thread and some would say your 'questions' had been answered before you even posted. So please bear in mind that 'going-off on one' does dilute the thread; making it harder for others to find the help they need as it becomes buried in the noise.
Good luck in your quest...

Yes everything Google does frustrates me, these people are absolutely obtuse
ok so do you have any suggestions for alternatives?
maybe there is a 3rd party app?
I have a Grom bluetooth unit and they have an app called dashlinq but I have not tried it yet
not sure how it will work with Google assistant
so are there any other 3rd party apps that do essentially the same thing as AA?
not sure if this dashlinq app uses GA or not or if it has it's own voice recognition.
I am surprised that there is not a way to keep using AA though as there is with Google play music ,which you can stil use if you have the right legacy version installed despite its replacement with YT music.
I am still confident there is a way, and also a bit confused
on weather it is going to work on my phone still since I have not updated past Android 11 , guess I will try installing some older .apk's and see if it is only not working anymore on Android 12.
