Did anyone in the UK get Bourne Dominion loaded on their N7? I got the Transformer film and a Jeffrey Archer book. I was looking forward to reading some Robert Ludlum. Not so much the J A book. What did you all get? Since this side of the pond we couldn't have all the content they got in the States, it would have been nice to get a few more decent books to make up for the shortfall.

Robert Ludlum died in 2001 - Eric Van Lustbader is writing the stories under license. Not the same as Ludlum work. Honestly I think including anything free (and also giving a Google Play credit) is a great deal. I am sure that, due to licensing and commerce laws, the freebies can vary from country to country.
Canadian here and I got the book as well. So to some up of what came on my device that was free were:
- Transformers
- Bourne Dominion
- Nexus 7 Tablet Guide
- $25 Play Store credit

Books -
Nexus 7 Guide
Born Dominion
Magazines -
Popular Science (July 2012)
Family Circle (July 2012)
Food Network (July/August 2012)
Esquire (Jun/July 2012)
Traveler (July 2012)
Music -
Too much crap to list (like 20 things from different genres)
Yeah the UK one only comes with the Transformers movie, a Jeffrey Archer book and the old Nexus 7 guide. Along with the £15 credit ofc. Here's hoping google will get all the legal stuff out the way soon and add a music and magazine store for us.

We don't get Magazines or Music here, but we do get raised screens for free. Oh, and they have revoked access to a book I bought.

The Ricky Gervais would have made up for inflicting Jeffrey Archer on us. Be interesting to find out what content everyone got in the UK and how they justify giving more more content to some of us than others. I bought the 16gb.
I got free Anticipation followed by the lovely gift of Frustration, on the plus side these are still more fun than the Jeffry Archer book I suppose.

Hi All - My wife and I have decided to move forward and buy our kids (7 and 5) their own Nexus 7 for Christmas. I know people may say they are too young and will break them, but they have been very good caring for Dad's iPad and Mom's Kindle Fire. Playing the odds, I'm also getting a squaretrade warranty for each. Can you recommend:
1) Cases
2) Apps to restrict access
3) Apps for them to play
4) Accessories
Appreciate the help - Dan
I read the thread title and do you know what my immediate reaction was?

Great idea starting them early. I'd recommend Seidio active case with front cover. Gumdrop offers a little more protection just no front cover, which may not matter too much. They have jellybean 4.2 which has multiple users and child restriction. Apps can't help you there, sorry..

I would say a Bobjgear case... I have seen the gum drop cases. They add alot more bulk and weight. The gear case has the round bezel to protect the device. It also will make it easier for there small hands to grip without adding all the extra bulk.. As far as to protect the screen I removable part as suggest above i think would end up breaking the screen trying to put it on or off. Especially with the 5 year old...Just keep a nice plastic type screen protector on it.. No matter what there is no True total protection....
the games mentioned above is awesome...
The mulit user support has NO KID Protection built in .. You will have to use a app for that. Google failed by not putting user policy into the multi user function.. This would have been great. Maybe it will come...
I suggest you create a Google account specifically for the purpose of buying family shared apps. Load it on the tablet and don't attach a credit card to it. Whenever you want to buy apps on the account, add a credit card just long enough to make the purchases and then remove it. This way the kids can't make any accidental purchases (it's VERY easy to disable a Play Store PIN from the device!), but will still receive important app updates.

I did that for my kids - My 7 year old is about to get my old Eris to play with. His options for accidentally buying stuff is seriously limited when there is no credit card attached to the account. I bought a Play gift card to get the couple of needed apps (Titanium, so I could freeze apps like the dialer was the biggest need).
I also have their own profile on my Nexus 7, and I freeze/hide stuff there, too.
Also you can set a pin in the play store settings and then turn on the option to use pin for play store purchases. That helps lock the device out as well.

Only if you think of it as an honour system. Wipe Play Store data in Settings and the PIN is gone. I could have figured that out when I was 5, so I have a feeling these kids could too

A couple more apps, my 5 year old likes 'the Witch with no name' and 'Coloring'. My 8 year old like 'Minecraft' and I'm going to buy 'Charlie Brown's Christmas' too

My son is 6 and he has a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 I picked up used for $150 a few years ago. He loves it. He plays lots of games and watches Netflix and does educational games. I have a TPU case on it and a screen protector and its held up very well.
He loves World of Goo and Angry Birds and all kinds of the great little games Android has to offer. He seven loved the keyboard apps and wallpaper apps looking at different animals and places.
He takes his tab and DS everywhere. The tab is much more flexible when it comes to activities. Even with using a stylus to color and draw and practice writing, etc.
Recommended vs an Xbox or Wii.

You can get the Nabi number if you really need some drop protection.
My 6yr old loves my tablet...maybe gets minds and dads gets a new one, upgraded next month.
Some of her favorites have been mentioned: angry birds, cut the rope, Dragon fly and flying squirrel,
Sight words is great. Zoodles is nice but had limitations that annoy me.
Intellijoy had a series of fun learning games

A short book could be written answering those questions. A better question would be what brought you to post in this thread?
As for useful? Not right now. It's an entertainment device. Is a gameboy useful? But it has a (limited) purpose. Only you can decide if it is something you want or not

@segura.org you asked "Is a Gameboy useful?" Some people would say yes, some would say no. The key here is threads like these are here to provide information and help people learn about devices and make informed decisions to purchase.

The Gear VR is the best available mobile VR experience you can get at the moment, which you can actually call a proper VR experience which surpasses the Oculus Rift DK1 and rivals even the DK2 in some regards but those Rifts are wired and need a powerful PC to work properly.
As for describing a VR experience that you will have to probably experience for yourself.

VR can be used to watch 360° Photos, 360° Videos, 360° 3D Videos and Games. It can give you the impression of not only watching something from far away like on a TV but as if you were there. Depending on the quality of the content of course.
