Yes. The rest is reserved for operating system use. If you had searched, this question has been answered many times.

Thanks. You're right I should've searched. Reason I asked is on boot up it looks like half of 768 is used up already. I assumed that was android itself and auto run apps.

Android does use a lot of the 768. And the apps are not auto run. Android automatically loads the apps it thinks you might run in the background so they are already in memory when you need them. It will unload some if you choose to load a different one. It has a very efficient memory management system. That remaining memory above 768 is for hardware things, like screen frame buffer, etc.

Ummmm. No, as far as I know. I don't see how or why this would work until the KF2 gets a real OS on it. Once it down, I do not see why it shouldn't. For now though, I don't know of any ways it's possible. Back to browsing on the device for you! [EDIT] I was wrong! The app is on my device. It was sitting in front of me for an hour or so when I turned it on to do stuff and found the app I pushed on it there! So it does work in theory, it may be slow for you, or some other issue, but it should work it seems!

Yes, this IS possible. I will look into it and post. It's a file you have to tweak, I did it before on tablets I just am completely blanking out since it's been a year or two. You will probably need something like RomToolbox. That's what I bought ages ago and use on every device I hack, just a personal preference but you will need a "build.prop editor".
Here use this app it will switch you device to make it look like a different device and allows you to download more apps.

I use market helper as well. Has limitations but until a full customised rom bypasses this issue it's not a bad 'get round'

My wife just told me that her Nook HD+ is uninstalling apps on it's own. Have any of you heard of this happening before on Nook HD+? It stays on her Android phone but is removed from the tablet.
I haven't seen this happen but just asking because the wife is pissed at me for this happening on something I modded for her. LOL

So you are not really having to re-install the apps, just put the icons back on the home screen?
Why don't you try a third party launcher and see if the disappearing icons quit disappearing.

Various apps. Wife hasn't been able to remember the names but the types were flashcards app (like the 3x5 cards we used in school), scientific calculator, biology and a game.
Sorry, doing the best I can with a wife that has a poor memory of app names.

I was just wondering if they were apps she got at the Amazon app store. Sometimes those get flacky if they can't verify that the app store is installed and running.

You could try scanning the ALL tab under My Apps on the Play Store - that shows all the apps you've ever installed on any device registered against your Google account. That might jog her memory. If they're not listed there then maybe, as leapinlar suggested, they came from the Amazon app store and have fallen prey to the flakiness he's observed.
(Backup tools like Titanium Backup can be set to do regular app backups which could provide a useful recovery point in cases like this. Not so useful if the user can't remember what the apps were called, though...)

Maybe she downloaded apps from play store, then removed hers Google account, so all apps associated got Uninstalled.
If its using cm11 there was a bug where app icons would disappear from the launcher after app updates.
Apps uninstalling themselves though... Besides user error or bad judgement I can think of many possible scenarios where apps could be removed/disappear.
I wonder too if google's new app checker service improvement could remove them if it didn't like them. Perhaps even being triggered during an automatic update.
[Ah yes, there is what I was looking for: "Google Play scans apps that are uploaded for malware. If an app is later discovered to be malicious, Google can automatically remove it from the devices it’s been installed on." -> http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/cracked-android-apps-and-games-read-this-before-downloading/
And that is only one way it can happen.]
I've inherited a Color Nook from a friend that passed away last year and I'm a very raw beginner at all of this. It had CM7 on it and had the capability of overclocking the processor. The SD card went bad and I purchased a new one. I've followed the directions and was able to install CM10.2.1 and the gapps program and get it working. Where can I find the program to get the nook to overclock?

You have to activate the setting. Go to settings, about tablet and tap the build number several times. That will activate both developer settings and performance settings.

Did you use SDformatter to reformat?

I just flashed the newest CM11 build yesterday on my HD+. Its running great and many thanks for the threads on getting it done as painlessly as possible. I do have a question and not sure if there is a workaround.
Google Play still sees the device as a stock HD+. That means it still thinks I am running Android 2.2 Nook OS so a lot apps are "not compatible with your device". I hoped that one perk of upgrading to 4.4 was that I could now get the latest and greatest apps and other features that only work on the higher OS levels.
Any way to fix this? What I dont understand is that I have an old HP Touchpad running Tenderloin and it shows up as "unknown maker" cm-tenderloin device. When I updated the HD+ I went through the process of logging into my accounts just like any other droid device.
Thanks for any help.
There is not much you can do. Even when other users manually edit the build.prop file to change it to another device, Play Store still does not show many more apps compatible. That is because Play Store looks at more properties that name. It looks at screen size, density and whether it has a camera, GPS, etc.
What you need to do is enable unknown sources and either use another store like Amazon.com or get the apk file from another device and install it manually.

Thanks for the tip. I will try the unknown source route.
I don't see why it's still recognizing yours as 2.2 though. Before installing the 4.4.4 KITKAT OS, Instagram and iHeartRadio were deemed incompatible with my device. However, once I installed the new OS, they installed and ran flawlessly even without features such as a camera. Then again I AM using the HD instead of the HD+ so maybe that has something to do with it?

Ohhhh ok
I have been running CM11 M11 for a long time with good performance on my HD+. I haven't used it much lately, although I think my daughter has been playing with it. I tried using it and it has gotten extremely slow. I tried updating it to M12 and it was still slow. Next I tried doing a full backup and then a factory reset/wipe, plus formatted the dalvik and /system partitions and then restored. Next I tried wiping again and just doing a fresh install of M12 (which I just did on a HD and it is running great). The plus is still very slow. I have thought about downgrading CWM and reflashing a version of CM10 but thought I would see if anyone has any suggestions why a fresh install is going so slow. Could my hardware just be dying or is there a step in doing a fresh install that I'm missing?
You are probably experiencing lag. Search the forum to learn about that. CM11 is supposed to fix that automatically but it may need a manual trim.

I thought the reformatting was supposed to fix the lag issues associated with needing trim. I read up on it a long time ago and it seemed like I had a decent chance of bricking it with the drive in mine if I did a Trim. I thought I also saw that Google did something that supposedly fixed the Trim bricking issue but haven't been following all of that since mine was working well enough. Do you know if the bricking issues associated with Trim are fixed in CM11?

No, I don't. In fact that is one reason I do not run CM11.
When you formatted, did you use the advanced menu to format 'data and datamedia'? The normal format of /data or a factory reset just erases, not formats.

No, the only extra one I formatted from the advanced menu was /system. I will give that a try tonight. Thanks!
Formating the data and data media seems to have done the trick! I installed M12 and seems to be going smooth so far. Thanks again for the help. ☺
