[Q] Sorry, thought this is the iPhone 6 thread. ;) - Nexus 4 General

So as all of you know, the Nexus 4 has a lot of good tech behind it but since the iPhone 6 has been announced, is anyone else seeing the very close similarities or is it just me?

*Cough*

Lol. Wouldn't say these features are the most important ones though

Well, we have to admit that some things in the Iphone are better than in the Nexus, like the camera.
But let's face it. Each phone is good for its intended customers. Iphone users aren't looking for complicated things, and don't care how powerful their phones are.
We should just stop comparing apples with tomatoes and mind our own businesses. I mean, they're both fruit, but you can't really say one is better than the other.

Well iPhone users should be able to find plenty of support online!

This ongoing feud between iPhone and Android users is so pointless, cause there's just no ground to compare the 2 phones, those who can afford iPhones are a different league! Each phone has features to complement its own price tag

SGS III + Galaxy Nexus

So i saw on 4chan (i know it's a bad source) that they are making 2 new phones with some pretty awesome specs..
News Article: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/09/1...eam-sandwich-as-2-4-and-galaxy-siii-revealed/
Mirror to Leaked Docs: http://tylerwatt12.com/samsung/nexus.htm
Nice story, but I doubt it's true . Why would Samsung go around and reveal something that's not their job to do (ICS and Nexus phone), and why would they talk about phone that should come out in august next year...
Don't know, little bit odd , but thanks for sharing....

the "Galaxy Nexus" is not a nexus phone! its a galaxy phone. trust me!
there are reasons why the nexus one isnt called HTC ONE NEXUS
or the nexus S not samsung s nexus.
WHY the Galaxy Nexus not a NEXUS phone is!
To all people thinking the Galaxy nexus is a nexus phone.
well no its not!
there i9s a reason why it never was a:
HTC ONE NEXUS
SAMSUNG S NEXUS.
plus a few facts:
the galaxy nexus was spotted running
2.4.1?
with a glassy blue green theme(doesnt that sound like touch wiz?)
no onscreen buttons like 3.0? the new screen size was deu to the on screen buttons right? well that was the most logical guess.
"s that he said the phone is running an Exynos processor clocked at 1.5GHz. We all know now that the next Nexus will run a TI OMAP chip"
(droid-life)
The CEO of Notion:
"Google will be releasing Ice Cream Sandwich in late October, OMAP devices will be the preferred platform (and receive the update before Tegra devices), and the Notion Ink will have the Adam updated by November."
even shows more that its probably not a nexus but a galaxy we are talking about here.
plus!
why would the galaxy III have better specs than the next nexus in such short release span?
there for.i say.
NO! its not a nexus phone.
but a galaxy phone!
I've been intending to comment on that rumor I read at phonedog. I didn't read your link but I was like, "yeah right" when they said the g3 was going to have 1080p at 60fps. That's the biggest crock of ****!
I'm no expert but considering how much data is being recorded at 30fps, to claim of double that rate is bs. I didn't do the math, but even if it were true, 32gb of storage would be eaten up in maybe 16 minutes or less. I'm thinking a lot less. Not only that, claiming a phone's hardware can handle the task is a joke too.
simple...
it all comes down to business
and as far as i can tell Nexus phones always hand technology a bit behind times packed, with new hardware for testing
is like a hybrid between new and old, but never all newest tech inside

Nexus Prime Wanted Features
So as many of us are busy speculating or patiently waiting for the Nexus Prime (or Galaxy Nexus), I thought it'd be a little bit fun to see what features (It can be non-feature breaking, but nice to have.) people would like to see on the next Nexus. I guess this is my way of killing time and counting down the days until I can get my hands on one myself.
My personal favourites would have to be a Notification LED, dedicated Camera button, and Samsung's (or Google's) BBM-alternative.
So, What's your mini/mega feature that you want to see in the next iteration?
It would be nice if it made me a coffee.

Highly doubt you'd Samsungs version of anything software wise on a Nexus phone, and that's fine.by me. I also doubt we will see a dedicated camera button because many people don't seem bothered by not having one(could be wrong here).
My biggest hope is that with all these variants that could be coming down the pipeline, that xda makes separate sections for each individual phone this go round.

An interesting read from an iPhone user(not me)

http://us.news-republic.com/Web/ArticleWeb.aspx?regionid=1&articleid=7339419
Enjoy. Even though the reviewer still prefers iPhone seems the nexus 4 is making an impression on the I sheep.
Every now and then one of these guys wakes up from the Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field™ and realizes there's a whole 'nother world out there
His comment about Siri vs. Google Voice Search is the most telling. Anybody who has spent anytime with Android knew that Siri was a shoddy version of Voice Search turned into a marketing gimmick.. 3 years later this tech "journalist" has finally caught on.
Wow, I just clicked "See Original Article" to see who wrote this, and what do you know, it's MG Siegler... Amazing level of ineptitude for a guy who is such a prominent figure in his field. It's clear from this article he has never given Android the time of day and yet that's not stop him from spewing his drivel and getting paid for it

indeed it is but have you ever heard an Apple owner rant on? I think Apple products from a design point of view are astounding but the owners are mentalists and seem to view every other product on the planet as inferior, generally they will argue this point until you just get bored and give up.
I find it interesting that the author filled up his homepage full of icons just like iOS. Nothing more to that, just an observation.
Despite him being wrong about the orb in that it's not a dock and it's not magnetic, I did like his enthusiasm about it.

Apple product stock vs android product stock, apple wins. If there were no custom kernels nexus 4 battery life would suck while iphone 5 makes it throughout the day. Apple products keep value the most over time + as u said design is better.

They are honestly awful quality though. They may look nice but at least half of my friends that have them complain about the lock button which has stopped working on a ton of iPhones. Also that wonderful and beautiful aluminum bezel idea was stupid, it scratches and dents so easily. Its way to soft.

I am moving over to the Android side of the pond with 2 Nexus 4 16gb phones for my wife and I, coming from iPhone 4's. I had owned Android phones prior to the iPhones, most recently back in early 2011 with the Vibrant. We were really excited about the tech in the iPhone 4 phones, so we signed up for Verizon and have had those phones to date. Since then, we haven't noticed much other "innovation" with the iPhones, minus the Siri and somewhat faster processing (along with mildly increased screen resoultion/size and camera MP). Whereas the Android side of the pond, has seen some nice strides, and it seems like the Apple side is stuck with "more of the same" type thinking, in particular with the transition from the 4S to the 5.
We are really excited about the new Nexus phones that should be here very soon. Although I have an iPad 2, my kids use the Nabi 2 tablets (quad core, nVidia Tegra 3), and I have played on those some, which has given me the ability to try out some of the newer features in the Android OS 4.x updates. Seems like a really tight OS, even when compared to the air-tight iOS 6.x. Further, I like the fact that the Nexus phones are so easily customizable, whereas the iOS side of things is extremely "stale". Apple needs to take some notes, and understand that versatility is needed for their continued market growth. Although the iPhone 5 is a very nice phone, I feel it was a mistake that Apple will ultimately rue the day on, even though it is fairly popular. Why will they rue the day? Because, all those folks thinking the iPhone 5 is the greatest thing since slice bread and running out to buy it, are seeing that its just a minor update to the 4S, and is lacking innovation. This will put Apple in a tougher spot for the iPhone 5S or 6, as many people are looking and seeing all the cool things that the direction the Android OS/devices are taking.
Can anyone shed some light on why iPhone users love imessage so much, other than the fact it just distinguishes the person they're texting is another iPhone user?

IMO absolutely worthless if it is limited to only iOS users. Would be nice if the openness of Google voice and the Polish and ease of use of iMessage were to blend. Google voice IMO is a great idea and is a cool feature but its lacking in so many ways
SGS III running liquid smooth 4.2.2
You really should have posted to original TC article.
Read the review and then reread it. The reviewer's only argument is the lack of the iApps he is used to + apps that do not exist on the android, but are huge on the ios. Noone is going to switch to a ecosystem that's missing all the apps that are used daily.
Nexus 4 could cure cancer, teleport you to Mars and solve world hunger for all he cares, but until developers start treating ios and android equally, ios wins - its rooted in the US, where the money is.
So to be fair, it's not really a review of the device, it's a review of the ecosystem.
Nexus 4 seems touch notch to me, less LTE. Great phone and design.
I'm in the minority, but I like a really small phone, large tablet. Phone has to be stable and fast, tablet can crash(that's not meant to be taken as IOS vs Android stability comment) . iPhone fits the bill for me.
Honestly the real reason is I feel if I'm not modding, and hacking up every different mobile device out there I'm missing out on the fun. iPhone, Android tablet, Palm tablet. ehhh not so much Blackberry. I like to eat from the technology buffet, one of everything.

My point has nothing to do with the iPhone 5. Steve Jobs was a master at manipulating media and the way Apple was perceived. Apple does hundreds of billions of dollars in notional trading to avoid corporate taxes, they've installed suicide nets at Foxconn, and they have had documented incidents of child labor. Yet, America loves Apple. That's the distortion field I'm talking about. MG Siegler is complicit in creating it. He's a hack journalist with a hack's knowledge of Android, which is clear from his Siri/Voice Search point.
Since the launch of the nexus 4 there have been really interesting articles from people who took the step and switched to an android device. As an iPhone user I am really considering. But I am afraid that its gonna be so time consuming to reproduce all my workflow and flashing several roms to try out the best configuraiton

Well, yes and no. I could and probably should of stayed stock. Stock 4.2.2 was mind blowingly smooth and battery friendly. Only reason o flashed a ROM is because I have that bug. Stock android is a joy to use coming from skinned versions such as sense, touchwiz and motoblur. They all get old real fast. The simplicity and fluidity of the stock android experience is unmatched. Yes iOS is simple also. But you have one launcher, one configuration, and limited options. App development is huge among ios, no one can argue that point, but the playstore is leaps and bounds better than it was almost 4 years ago.

KitKat still 'way inferior to iOS

Android, even at 4.4.2 and the computing power of the Nexus 5, still can't compete with iOS for smoothness. Using a friend's iPhone 5 is a revelation. What with "project butter" and all that hype, continuous revision of the OS, and continuous improvement in the hardware, I would have expected iOS and Android to have been more comparable in performance by now. Eric Schmidt and the boys should carry an iPhone and use it some of the time, to see what they're up against.
My 16Gb Nexus 5 stock, unrooted, with relatively few apps, no music, no games, and a lot of free memory.

Lol @ op's post. I like my Nexus 5 minus the underpowered battery, weak antenna and plastic cheaply built compared to HTC One titanium

My opinion: People who still complain about performance (as OP calls it "smoothness" ) on an android high end phone should either learn how to set up their device (no rooting required), or move on to the next platform. You never know, they might even allow you to change the wallpaper, hell yeah :good:

if you dont like the nexus 5 get a Google Play Edition device HTC one
like with any product launch expect some issues.
I just came from an iPhone 4S, wife has the iPhone 5 and my roommates wife has the 5S. I honestly switched to the Nexus 5 because I wanted to try Android out without any bloatware, and I liked the screen size. As of right now I don't mind being out of the ecosystem with iMessaging, but who knows, maybe soon I will.
I'm enjoying rooting, installing CM11, and learning what I can do with Android. I love iOS, but the 3.5-4" screen size is old school now and I probably won't go back unless they update to a bigger size screen.
Last time I used Android was Jellybean on a Samsung Note 1, I bought it, switched to it and in a day switched back to the iPhone. I think KitKat is awesome, maybe I didn't play with the features of Jellybean, but I didn't know it can do what it does on my Nexus 5.
The smoothness on the iPhone is mainly due to slow animations(Apple made them slow on purpose), pseudo-multitasking(apps in memory are frozen after some time to prevent it from running in background), better optimization(I agree that Android needs better optimization) and a very simple and basic application grid(no widgets, etc)
Wait till art kicks into release. You'll be drooling over our smoothness

What's an "iPhone"?
My nexus 5 is smooooth and I am getting an awesome amount of standby time now with LTE/wifi on thanks to Franco and Cataclysm. to bad you aren't experiencing the same.
I detect some serious iFan butturt. Don't like the nexus 5? Sell it, save up for the rest of the year, and maybe you can buy an iPhone. I think anyone who knows what they're talking about prefers the highly customisable and open sourced Linux based Android, to the locked, blank, outdated and proprietary iOS. this is coming from someone who just ditched an iPad 4th gen for the new Nexus 7.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Does the op think that people in the nexus 5 forum are going to agree as a majority, nah.
Join an iphone forum and post your opinion there, good point that someone made with the slow animation speed on ios, if you do the same on android it does give the same effect that apple want their users to have i believe its called the "ios feel" some ass like that.
Hmmm "Way inferior to ios" is ridiculous, why do i keep looking in the general section when all i see is donkey threads like this one.
A friend of mine who was coming from an iPhone 5 said his new N5 had some lags and frame skips, especially while opening the multitasking view. After I made him switch to ART he's not complaining anymore about smoothness, so try getting rid of Dalvik runtime, then head back here and post your (updated) comments
Where is the lag that people are talking about?! I had the 5S for a few days and using chrome on it was like using android 1.6. The whole os crashed way more than android and even safari had some lag to it.
Armando Ferreira did a video comparing 4.4 and ios7 and he saw the same thing.

Ios7 actually has real multitasking now, so ill give them that. Instead of comparing android to ios all the time, I actually think that android needs to become like wp8 more. Even the lowest end windows phone can run great. The rest of the os is junk, but the core of it is pretty good fi you ask me.
Android 4.4.2 is already as smooth as iOS.

The amnoyance in regards to this is that both the Note 3, S4 & S5 seem to have had a wider rollout so far than the Note 4. Likewise Samsung's PR were promising a rollout to Android within a couple of months of its final release when the Note 4 was released and thar seemingly has been abandoned too. It just leads to user apathy and distrust.

Hoping for honesty from the PR arm of an international chaebol is like nicely asking a stone if it wouldn't mind bleeding a bit. It also assumes that they are even remotely interested in providing these kinds of updates, that they communicate with the developers, and that they have that information in the first place. They've done their job already - you've bought a Note 4, so why should they care? Besides which, if they've already stated a timeframe previously, and been unable to meet it, they're going to be very cautious about announcing anything else apart from "it'll be ready when it's ready", and even that is unlikely compared to simply remaining silent.

I sincerely hope this post is a joke; if I merely cared about apps I'd own an iPhone.
I bought a 800€ smartphone i espect to have the lastest and best software. Thats why so many people is going from android to iOS. If you have a iPhonne 6+ you have the lastest iOS. Next time a change smartphonne i am going to think twice before have Android or iOS, and for me Nexus line are no option, ugly and overrated. For me Samsung or HTC or LG (this two allready have 5.0 Lolipop)
I updated my Moto X 2014 to lollipop and it made it slower, worse battery and it stuttered more than it did on kitkat. Also with all the problems people were talking about on most of the phones that got the update(not just Samsung) why are people in such a rush? Google really messed up with lollipop.
I would like to get the S6 TW though.

Performs like a champ. No FC's and no stutters or 'contacts stopped working' bugs.
That being said, It would be nice to see 5.1 sometime soon on both it and the Note 4. Had to rollback my Note 4 to KitKat as performance was so bad on lollipop for me.

why i want lollipop and Samsung to treat us better
based on google claims ...better security. no lags, the apps like quickpik can delete photos and much more usability...hoping for better camera.plus many other things on lollipop
every year I think of going back to the Iphone ,,,but now the iphone 6 plus is a real competitor ....but this upgrade policy and silence from Samsung is really annoying .
later this year if the iphone 7 competes with the note 6 I will have to consider changing to
iphone ....upgrades are fast on iphone ,works works worldwide every language preinstalled Samsung doesnt) both have good battery the iphone 6 plus better camera in most cases but marginal .the fingerprint
is a joke on note 4 .
im just ranting cause got another error re my names have crashed again. ...grrr
Finally android sumsung after all these years cant offer a full back up and restore .
this rant is after watching a friend of mine just buying a new Iphone 6 and everything but evething restores in one go ...awesom ...Im not rooted so it takes a whole day for me to restor everthing ... Im restarting my phone daily these days so bad day for me sorry about the ranting
come on samsung TREAT EXISTING CUSTOMERS better.

iPhone are great for fluidity and fast updates, but they lack the customization and freedom that android offers even with Jailbreak.
Also , I don't know if you need glasses or not, but the note 4 camera beats the iPhone any day in good light situations...both in photos and videos.

Yeah I didn't have major problems but the battery is worse and it just wasn't as smooth and quick as it was on kitkat. I didn't have the app redraws that others had but I put that down to a full wipe before and after the update.

Is it worth upgrading from Galaxy S6 to OP3T?

I'm stuck with touchwiz and I hate it
I want to upgrae to a phone with a great dev support and this seems like a good choice but I have no idea if its a good idea since I think I will be downgrading my camera and display

the s6 camera is better but the display I do not think will be a problem at all.
Well, yeah but you're upgrading much more than you're downgrading. Living stuck with a software you don't like its the worst that can happen tp you in smarphones world, the software its the only spec of your phone you're on direct contact with so it's pretty important

Ofcourse!
I have the very same dilemma. Another concern is the warranty and support in case there are problems with the phone.
I'm currently unhappy with my S6 edge because of touchwiz and the battery for example. About 2 month ago my display broke and the fix would cost 260€ so I will buy a Oneplus 3t.

Imo it's an upgrade. One plus is very similar to Nexus and for that even if the specs were not quite up to par to a previous device with an overlay it's still a win. I'm grabbing a 3T in a month or so. When I looked at the Pixel and Pixel XL and the op3t and op3 I made my mind up immediately. Going to keep my eyes on pixel also and see what happens there but just not willing to spend 800-900 USD on a phone at this point in my life. ;p Why when we can grab a Op3T for so much less and it's very similar in specs. External sdcards are over rated imo and for Samsung type phones. I've been a Nexus user since the Galaxy Nexus and well actually the G1 and never seen a use for them after ditching Samsung back on the S4. Internal is fine imo and I'm not into all the little marketing features like Sammy has. I'll take a clean phone with little to no extra crap onboard with a good camera and battery and screen any day and that's what I see we have here with the One plus 3t. I've studied the Op3 forums and battery is unreal and camera is very good. Coming from my Nexus 5x I can't wait!!!!! I look forward to seeing all of you on the forums.

It burns battery and it's ugly imo. The are two kinds of people, one who likes tw and one who doesn't. Neither are wrong just different taste is all. I prefer Nexus phones or phones like them.. (one plus..) Development is better for Nexus and One plus and there's more of it and it's more stable than on a Samsung device. I know that from owning them all and seeing for myself. You just can't beat how AOSP runs on a device like One+ and how many devs work on them constantly. It's just personal preference is all.

And it even came before OP 3 got Nougat.. that's impressive from Samsung...I used the latest touchwiz Grace UX on Note 5 and Note 7 and it is way better than normal touchwiz...but with Note 7 debacle, I had to buy OP 3...

It's a lot lighter and that's a fact. Also for me OOS its cleaner and beautiful to see, but that's just opinion

Quite raw looking if you ask me, seeing the icons on it, guess that what pure android about, quite interested in this op 3t, will await the review, hopefully it does better on the display section.

Can't say that in words.
If you look at that crap which is installed on stock roms you get headache and that brains the battery like crazy and slows the phone down.
And if is even with a theme ugly
You even need to sort apps in stock launcher by alphabet manually with a button ?
If you try it for one year you get sick of it trust me. Even with theme and Nova launcher.
Samsung itself recommend to restart your phone every day to get the best performance and that in 2016 ?
